This was a birthday present for a 7 year old who had this as top of her wish list. It is colourful, easy to use and she has already had hours of fun from it. It has a number of functions that should keep her enterained for some time (for how long....we shall see). Recording quality and playback appears fairly good. Games seem fairly basic (when compared to what is on her DS and what she plays on computer) but she is enjoying them. It appears to be durable but only time will tell. She is having a lot of fun from it. They say for age 6 to 11.......I would say for an average girl.......age 6 to 9 is probably more accurate. For an average 9 year old (and above), it is probably a bit basic.

Generally a fan on Vtech products, and this doesn't disappoint.This was the main thing that my 'soon to be 6' year old wanted for her birthday as seen on adverts. It can be slightly temperamental when matching the child's voice, but I think she seems that as part of the fun. She enjoys putting bits in the "secret draw" and has been monitoring her "pet". Some of the games are fairly simple, but we have come across some which she won't be able to do until a year or two's time, so I would see it as being something that will keep her occupied for some time. it has been dropped a couple of times, and hasn't been damaged at all.Very pleased with it

I brought this for my daughters 8th birthday and she loved it! Her favourite part of the toy is the little virtual pet you get. She choose the horse, you have to care for the pet and play with the pet. The more games you play on the diary the more points you get to spend on gifts for your pet. My daughter also loves that it only unlocks to her voice. Found it does unlock when thrown on the floor though (we also have a cheeky little 2 year old!), but obviously its not meant to be thrown so the secret diary locks perfect with the voice.Very pleased with this product.

I bought this for my 7year old granddaughter for Christmas, she loved it, spent most of the day playing with it, when we finally did get it open.But, right from the off we had problems, trying to get it to open, it just wouldn't accept her voice. only by resetting it, would it open. then the next time she closed it, and tried to open it, It wouldn't reopen. so the only way she could get it to open was to press the reset. what has happened since I do not know.

Was looking at tablets but decided this might be a better alternative for a 7 yr old girl. She's beyond the younger one's Innotab 3 but not really ready for a tablet and all the issues that brings with access to the internet. Still wanting to get her something electronic, but not pay loads for extras as per the Innotab, this was the perfect stop gap option for a while. Not sure how long she'd get out of it but she's enjoying it for now.

7 year old daughter was delighted when she opened this on xmas day, quite a few games on it to keep them amused. We have come across a problem though, if she hasn't used it for a few days when it opens the screen goes blank and it loses the time and date but all other info stored is there. Was going to return it but it comes back on again once you press the button so will see how it goes but overall good toy.

Bought this for my daughter, 5yrs (almost 6). She loves it. The additional games etc have kept her occupied for ages. Although she needed help from an adult with the instructions, once she knew what to do she played on her own. Being able to plug in an MP3 player was an added bonus. Easy to take with you on car journeys too. Has built in clock and alarm, which makes her feel very grown up!!

I bought this for my cousins daughter for Christmas, at a great age for her independence n privacy n is a great gift that comes with loads of extra fun things like virtual pet n games n also continues to help them learn and connects to mp3 was great to get this product on amazon cheaper than anywhere else I looked n was quick delivery definitely recommend this to anyone with children over 6

This diary is great! My 9 year old niece loves it! I got it for her at Christmas and since then she hasn't put it down! She said she loves the icecream game whatever that means, it only opens to her voice which is great because after other reviews I was worried it would open to everyone! She hasn't actually used the writing diary bit much but loves the games and her pet :) Great buy!

My Daughter had this for Christmas and has played with it every day so far. It did get a bit annoying when she kept changing the secret message, and it kept locking her out, because she didn't say it exactly right, but she has now chosen a word that it accepts. She loves playing the mini games it comes with, and has annoyed her sisters as they can't open it.

This is a brilliant little electronic diary because it also has games on it and you can connect an MP3 player to it, also very educational as well. the only slightly annoying thing is the voice which is annoying on all Vtech toys. A great purchase though, we bought one each for our two 6 year old nieces and they love them.

Bought for my 8 year old daughter, and she loves it - though it took a while for her to be able to 'master' everything. She enjoys playing the mini games. One word of warning, the password has to be repeated in the tone that it was originally recorded by the child.I would certainly recommend this product.

this is an excellent product, my two granddaughters get endless amount of pleasure and fun from this. They spend hours and its very stimulating and learning for children. It is one of the better learning products i have bought for them. it allows them their own privacy which they think is great.

It's ok. The password voice feature is easily reset (but I know why). Has a lot if features that will be more useful as a child develops. However these features could be replaced by a smart phone or tablet. But the voice password and the tangible diary is something that can't. My girl loves it.

Our daughter has found this to be an item she adores and loves using it. It works very well and has given her he own private little space. she has thwarted her wee brothers attempts to invade her priviacy.. its a wonderful item and does just what it should do. you could not go wrong with it
