I read all the reviews and did not know what to do as some of them were not very good, but I decided to take a chance.I am so glad I did, and I honestly think that the reason people were having mixed views on this item is that they open the pages of the book too quickly. it is meant to be opened, page by page, i.e. open the page and listen to the story and read the writing on the page, then slowly turn the page and do the same again. It needs time for each page to catch up with the music playing. This item is meant for a parent to be sat with their child whilst reading the book and not giving it to the child to use it themselves. A child loves to sit on their parent's knee and open the book page by page, and if you do that, there is no problem. No point in just handing the book to the child and tell them to get on with it as they will open the pages willy nilly and never hear the correct rhyme for the correct page.

This was always a hit with my children, it went on every holiday, and every trip I made outside of the house.I’m sentimental and old school, so decided to buy this version again for a work colleagues child - it hadn’t changed at all, but now in reflection to compare the newer version : it’s a little outdated eg not so bright and vibrant, sound not as sharp, and probably not as durable - but the end product does the same thing with the same response from the child. It fits into a ‘ baby bag ‘, and I often found other adults enjoyed the experience to !My other gripe is that it was bought from a seller on Amazon rather than Amazon sold it - They lost my first one, second one was delivered damaged due to inadequate packaging (was a present remember), and I didn’t have enough time to make another appear - so this concretes my decision to stay with buying Amazon products only ....

I bought this book when my son was 6 months old. I thought it will probably sit on a shelf for a few months but he enjoyed it straight away. 10 weeks later he still plays with it on a daily basis. As this is my first child I didn't know any nursery rhymes but the VTech book tought us both quite a few. As it is made of plastic I think it is particularly useful for babies as they like chewing everything and the traditional book would get spoilt. The lights and songs are very attractive too, but the only downside is that you can't control them. As there is no off button or volume control you can not instantly stop the music. However, I use it at home and only have one child so it works fine for me.I also bought the nursery rhymes book for my friends'children and they enjoyed it too!

Our baby Sebastian was bought this as a present when he was first born and I must admit I didn't think that much of it. It stayed in the box until he was about three months. Now he is eight months old and this is one of his favourite toys. He often plays with it on his own but also loves it when someone else looks at it with him (I often sing along with the music). He is able to turn the pages on his own easily and is just learning to press the buttons. What is very good about this is that even if your baby is not yet able to press the buttons himself, simply opening and closing the book activates the music, so even that has a reward. It is very robust: I have stepped on it at least twice and it is still in one piece. We haven't even had to replace the batteries yet!

Many toys get advertised saying they provide hours of fun -- but this one actually does. This is my 13 month old son's favourite toy and he carries it everywhere.Basically it has a couple of thick plastic "pages" - with handy tags so the baby can turn the pages himself - with illustrations of nursery rhymes and buttons to press to play the song. My son figured out the buttons immediately and now walks around with the books singing and dancing to the tunes. If there is one downside, it is that it will drive the parents nuts! And each song has two modes: sung by a female voice and just music. For some bizzare reason though the woman only sings half the nursery rhyme..

My little girl has this and she loves it, the buttons are really easy for the children to work out and she sits and plays with it for some time. The pages are turned very easily as they large tabs that stick out the side to aid the little ones. The actual music etc I don't find annoying, the only thing that irritates me about it is that every time it's opened it says "it's nursery rhyme time" in a sing song voice.Having said that my little one gets a lot of fun out of it and so do her friends when they visit, I'd recommend this to anyone, the minor annoyance factor is worth it for the child's enjoyment!

Bought it for my 3 months old son. It immediately attracted his attention. What I like about the book:1. Very bright and colorful pictures (that's exactly what a 3 months old child needs)2. Pages made of plastic (very unusual for a book and good for tactile feelings. And I guess that it adds to its lasting)3. The twinkling errows. My son likes everything that has lights.4. The music: the book sings the two first lines of the songs and then plays the rest of the melody. The book doesn't have volume control, but the volume is just fine: not very loud nor too quiet.

Bought this for my youngest grandson's first birthday. Unlike previous reviewers I did not find the lady's voice particularly annoying. The little book is robust and will stand up to a good deal of heavy-handed use over a long period of time. Only the first two lines of the verse are sung and then music for the rest of the verse. Remember this is for very young children and they seem to love it Has a small but good selection of favourite rhymes. The tabs on the side of the pages makes it easy for the smallest fingers to turn. Would recommend.

I bought this when my little one was only 3 months and bought it for a few friends kids too..she loved it from buying this and loved turning the pages and listening to the songs and looking at the pictures. At 15 months little one still loves with it and plays with it loads still. The friends i have bought it for say they find it really annoying but i dont think its brilliant for the little ones but like some of the other reviews have said it only plays half the song but still great. A great cheap hardwearing toy definitely recommend it :)

My son has been playing with this since he was about four months. Now at seven months he has figured out how to turn the pages, which are chunky and have little tabs attached. Even from a young age he recognised the nursery rhymes from when I would sing them to him and already seems to have a favourite. Also it is easily wiped clean which is a bonus especially at mealtimes. This is a noisy toy and can get annoying when you hear it over and over again but it keeps my son amused for long periods of time so I definitely recommend it.

A book that gives independence and music when the pages are turned or the button is pressed. My toddler (2) easily presses the buttons on his own, my 9 month old needs a bit more help. A nice selection of rhymes, just a shame the book only sings two out the four lines in each rhyme- designed I think to be played with together so an adult can sing the remaining lines (words are at least included) but for a mum of 2 it would be better if it was a toy they could enjoy completely independently for when mummy is busy!

For £7 the VTech book is a bargain but it isn't the best one out there.ProsHas six good nursery rhymesThe arrows on the book can be pressed to point to which rhyme you want to playThe book will play when pages are openGood quality with good picturesTurn off when you close the bookConsDoesn't play all the nursery rhyme only 2 lines to encourage you to sing the rest of itDoesn't turn volume downI have not had any faulty errors with the book

This was a great gift for a family member. The book plays rhymes for each page and other noises. A vocal version of the song plays first but note it does not play the full song, only the first 2-3 lines. A whole verse then plays instrumental version. Plays other sounds as well. Easy to turn pages with big tabs. Buttons light up and allows to choose which page to play (left/right). Bright, vivid pages great for sensory and for learning.

My son loves this book and he is only 9 months old. Has six popular nursery ryhmes and has a lady read the ryhmes. Cool and funky. Great for its price and it is way brighter than it looks on the photo. It keeps my son busy while I am busy cleaning the house. The only thing is that the lady who reads only reads half of the ryhmes. Maybe the rest are for the toddler to read. Oh well it's still good for it's price. :)

My son was given this for his first birthday four months ago and he has loved this toy since he got it. He loves turning the pages and dances along to the tunes. He will sit for ages on his own playing with it. His absolute favourite is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and he gets so excited when it comes on. Also includes Hey Diddle Diddle, Wheels on the Bus, London Bridge, Humpty Dumpty and Ring-a-Ring of Roses.
