This review is based on my experience with two different Zaffiro Trainer tires: 26" x 1" and 700c x 23. I'm comparing this Vittoria tire to the Continental Hometrainer folding tire in 700c x 23 (see my separate review, for reference). The Vittoria is built with a hard rubber compound, closer to a garden hose than a standard road tire. Stiction between the tire and roller surface is lower than the Continental HomeTrainer. Even with careful tensioning, the Zaffiro slips and “chirps” at the least change in RPM. I always release roller tension after every ride to avoid local over-heating.I run my tires to failure. All three tires appear to have a life of 2,500 to 3,500 indoor miles when used on my Kurt Kinetic trainer.I squeaked out 4,000 miles out of my last Continental, but it was pretty rough. At 1,500 to 1,800 miles, the 700c tires tend to develop a checked wear pattern at the crown and will shed fine bits of rubber until they reach end-of-life.The 26” x 1” version of this indoor training tire won't fit anything wider than a 20mm rim. I had a dedicated wheel for my last indoor trainer, based on the Velocity Razor rim (14mm inner width), and this tire is really tough to mount and remove. If you're using a standard width 26" rim, I would recommend the wider 26" x 1.25" from Tacx and Continental. Once past 1,500 miles, the 26" version of this tire tends to wear more smoothly than the 700c size. This is a guess, but I believe that this can be attributed to the lower pressure (60-85PSI for the 26" vs 110-120psi for the 700c). At the end of its life, the 26" tire was very round and displayed no wobble. The 700c x 23 version of this tire began to shed earlier than my other three tires and is almost worn out at 3,400 miles. The tire I received was out-of-round by 1mm. The two high points pushed harder against the roller spring tension, causing uneven wear. This is a good indoor trainer tire for durability and smoothness. At $10.00 less than the Continental, I was willing to give the Vittoria Zaffiro Pro a 4-star rating. I have switched back to the Continental.

I bought this trainer tyre to replace the 38c hybrid tyre from my old bike that I'm using on the trainer. My main reason for buying a trainer tyre was to reduce the noice from the knobbly fat tyre that was on my bike. The existing tyre was so noisy that I couldn't use the trainer indoors or even on decking outside my house. I'm pleased to say that this tyre has completely solved the noise problem. It is very quiet and I can use my trainer indoors now.The tyre arrived almost flat. There was no distinct sidewalls and tread areas so putting onto the rim was tricky as it had no shape. I put the tyre on the rim without a tube fairly easily though.I then tried to put my existing tube into the tyre but it was too fat and I had to order a 18c-25c tube which I was able to fit without levers although it did take a bit of brute force to get the final bit over the rim. I was concerned about nipping the tube as I fitted the tyre but all went well. This might be in part to the tube being pre-filled with anti-puncture fluid. I can't be sure.I really pleased with the tyre no that it is fitted and the wheel is back in the bike. I was exactly what I hoped for when I made the purchase.

I've had this tire for a few weeks and have used it only a handful of times; thus far the tire is holding up well. I bought this tire to be specifically used on my indoor bike trainer to cut down on the amount of noise made. I was previously using the road tire that came standard with my road cruiser and the noise was horrendous. I opted for standard shipping and I received the tire undamaged within a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately I experienced a headache getting this tire on to my rim, but it was all my fault. I knew the tire would be narrow but I had no clue it needed a special sized inner tube that couldn't be easily found at major chain stores that sold bike parts (I'm a biking newbie).I tired to use my 26 x 2.00 inner tube to mount this onto my 26 x 1.50 rim; bad idea. I ended ordering a 26 x 1.1 tube online (much cheaper than getting from LBS). If you use the correct inner tube, purchase an appropriate size tire for your rim and use tire levers it's pretty simple to mount. This tire works great on a trainer and significantly reduced the noise I had previously experienced. I would say there is a 90% noise reduction using this tire.

So far after using this tire on my trainer for the past month, I am very pleased with this purchase. The tire is very quiet and is holding up well to daily use during my winter training. Just for comparison, I rode my trainer with my cyclocross tire (Kenda Small Block 8) for one session and that tire was very loud. The Vittoria Zaffiro was nearly silent in comparison. After a month of use, I have not noticed any significant wear or any flakes of red rubber behind the trainer. The trainer did leave a black mark on the tire at the contact point which I don't believe has any bearing on the tire. One thing to note about this tire is that it is initially stiff and quite difficult to put on the rim,at least the 25mm rim I am using. Once I got it on and took it off a couple of times, the tire loosened up and is now fairly easy to get back on the rim. Not that you need to remove it frequently if you have a spare rim, but if you do remove it, the tire does get easier to reinstall. If I wear this tire out, I will happily buy another one.

This is my first trainer tire, so I don't have another tire to compare it to, but I've ridden it for 3 weeks now, 2-3x/week on the trainer for ~60mins each ride. Tire has performed well so far with no issues, and I take the tire off once a week for an outdoor ride and have had no issues taking it off or putting it back on. The only thing I think worth noting is that it leaves some rubber streaks on the trainer that I have to scrape off. Not sure if this is normal for a trainer tire to do so, and I don't have it cranked down, just tight enough to make contact w/ the wheel. I would buy this tire again for trainer use. For reference, I use a Cyclops Fluid2. I think I paid [...] shipped,so it's about 30% cheaper than the Conti yellow tire.

I have the Vittoria Zaffiro Pro Home Trainer Fold (RedTire 700 X 23mm size) running on a Kurt Kinetic Trainer. I have put about 4000 miles on this tire. I have experienced no problems. True, as some have noticed, it is difficult to put on the wheel the first time, but a decent set of tire levers and some muscle power will get the tire on the wheel. The tire runs quietly, (I live in a 2nd story apartment---that's a requirement) shows very little wear, and none of the issues others have noted. Inflate according to the sidewall instructions, and all will be good. This is the third trainer tire I have owned and the only one I would buy again though, at the rate it is going,I will wear out before the tire does.

I was reading a couple of commnets about how difficult this was to install, and how it fell apart and threw red peices all over the place. I've had it for about a month already and I would completely disagree with all of those comments. It was fairly easy to install. About as easy as any other 700 x 23 tire that I have ever installed. It is way more quiet than my hybrid tire on the trainer. It is holding up just fine. There are no red pieces flying all over the place and from my initial perspective, it should last a long while. It also grips the trainer very well, almost like glue, so very little pressure is required to keep the wheel from slipping. I would absolutely recommned.

I've put over 400 miles on this tire so far on my trainer. It appears to be very durable - it still has the mold bead on the surface that's in direct contact with the trainer. Another great feature is that you can inflate it to 145 psi. It's very quiet even at 30+ mph - I can barely hear the hum over the trainer, fan, and TV. I'll update this review as the miles accumulate.Edit 2/15/2014:Just at 700 miles in and the molding bead is only now starting to show some wear. But that's it. The rest of the tire is still in like-new condition. I expect to get thousands of miles from this tire before it needs to be replaced.

I had my doubts that using a tire that was just for a trainer would be any different and I have to admit I'm now convinced. Using the trainer now is a much quieter affair and I'm not chopping up a road tire. I ride the trainer anywhere from three to four times a week when there is snow on the ground that this tire has made things a lot simpler.Pros: Quiet, Easy to Install, Tire seems to hold up well for hour or longer trainer sessions.Cons: it slips a little at the beginning of a ride but once it warms up it works well.

Bought to use on an indoor turbo trainer rather than wearing down my road tyre. You need to remove the road tyre from your rear wheel and replace it with this one for use on the turbo, change back to the road tyre if you're going outdoors. Initially I found the tyre quite stiff and tight to get onto the wheel and ended up pinching the inner tube resulting in a puncture. I then took to youtube for tips on how to fit it! Found some handy tips and have had no problem since. It works well on the turbo, very happy with it.

Needed a turbo trainer tyre as my conti road tyres were too good to wear out on the turbo.Must admit that some of the reviews mentioned that the tyre was difficult to mount on the rim, but fortunately didn’t have a problem and it went on with a little help from a plastic tyre lever.I’m really impressed with how quiet the tyre rolls on the turbo, much easier to hear the iPad. I’ll be interested to see how long it lasts, but suspect it might last longer than my interest in riding the turbo trainer!!

Just put this on my bike/cycleops and impressed so far. I had an older road tire and used it till the tube melted in the tire and went flat. Can’t give a 5th star till this see how this wears but seems very high quality. My previous tire was creating a lot of squeaks and groans that went away with this tire. Obviously a little Nuisance to change tires to go road riding but this bike stays on my trainer most the time. Highly recommend this tire if you don’t want to wear out our your road tire

Perfect tire for my trainer, It was easy to mount -- same as any folding bead tire. I read a lot of comments about the difficulty of mounting the tire, but If you have mounted non-wire bead tires before (Continental 4000, any Specialized folding tires, or Vittoria's own racing clinchers), it's the same. No tire levers needed.I'm running it on a CycleOps PowerBeam Pro and bought this tire to get better traction above 300 watts. I ran it up to +600 watts and no noise or slipping!

Been long-time user of Continental training tire for Computrainer indoor rides. Decided to give Vittoria tire a try based on Warehouse Deal price. Tire is great. No wear and team thru first several hundred miles. Grip to flywheel is satisfactory - I think the Continental is a little better as a softer rubber, but the flip side is that it likely wears a little faster. I was a little concerned about look of red tire, but, not that it really matters, but I don't notice!

Good turbo trainer tyre. Was expecting a tough job and tight fit due to other reviews but found it no more difficult than a normal tyre and, managed to get it on Mavic Cosmic rim with just hands and one tyre lever. Probably a little "difficult" to get first bead under clincher as it's folded and a bit non-compliant straight out of box. Noticeable difference on trainer especially on higher elevation climbs where tyre slip with standard road tyre can be an issue.
