SUMMARY: Lots of features (14) in compact form.* This size ('standard' 91mm) is popular for a reason - it has a lot of tools that are actually useful, yet it's slim (3 layers), not heavy, and is easy to heft and handle. SAKs with 5-8 layers start to feel heavy and unwieldy. Victorinox is known as a decent SAKs maker. Various colours and scales. Can be accessorised. Details below under headings: INDIVIDUAL TOOLS; TOOLS GENERALLY; OTHER; REPLACEMENT PARTS / SUGGESTED ACCCESSORIES; ADULT'S SIGNATURE ON DELIVERY; THE 14 FEATURES.INDIVIDUAL TOOLS:1. The SCISSORS are good for cutting open sauce sachets and product packaging.2. The SCREWDRIVER is almost as good as one with a full-length handle.I get a better holdng grip and better purchase than with my credit card-shaped multi-tool. I've also used it as a light-duty pry bar. It's flat so doesn't have the leverage a more efficient or dedicated pry-bar has but if you hold, say, a pen perpendicularly under it that acts as a fulcrum for initial leverage. Also works on Phillips screws but if you want an actual Phillips screwdriver for better purchase, buy the Tinker (no scissors).3. I've used the BOTTLE OPENER successfully, on J20 bottles.4. I use the SMALL KNIFE to open parcels (cutting parcel tape) and to cut paracord. It's sharp!5. I'm keeping the LARGE KNIFE for food only, to cut or eat off; so far, haven't used it (an outdoorsy thing I was taught - keep one blade for food only for hygiene reasons). It's sharp!6. I've used the CORKSCREW point to poke in to start unravelling a tight knot. A corkscrew is very useful - I once camped with people who, in the absence of a corkscrew, had to use a knife to (dangerously) open a wine bottle. Of course, camping without a corkscrew was a rookie mistake :-) I've also used the corkscrew to pop the air pouches Amazon uses as packaging.7. I know the TWEEZERS and TOOTHPICK work as I've used them on other Victorinox SAKs.TOOLS GENERALLY: The within-layer tools were/are a bit stiff to open and close. They will loosen up eventually with usage over the years, as they did with the similar Huntsman I bought 15+ years ago. I wish Victorinox would somehow label the tools (engraved symbols?) as over the years my memory's become poor so I forget which tool is where and open the wrong one.OTHERA. This is a good first and/or eternal SAK, rather than making do with fewer tools. You never know what you'll need and this tool set forms a good all-rounder. I recommend the Climber as the Climber is the same as the Spartan but with the addition of scissors and hook, and there's no tool that's yet been invented that's equivalent to the action of bladed scissors. If you want the Climber and a saw, buy the Huntsman. (I also own the Spartan and Huntsman and have just checked you can buy them on Amazon as at the time of writing).B. The Climber comes well-presented and would make a good gift. I've gifted many a SAK - generically a good gift.C. Various colours and scales in different finishes are available; I bought it in plain black.D. Good value for just under 20quid (see also E. below).E. Well-made. With care it'll probably last forever.REPLACEMENT PARTS / SUGGESTED ACCCESSORIES: I suggest adding the mini-screwdriver; I bought ASIN B00165VGXS. It winds into the corkscrew and thus doesn't take up any extra space. Black or red lanyard with Victorinox logo also available: ASIN B001U551G2, ASIN B00IKH13PQ - makes it easier to hang up the Climber or to pull it up out of your pocket or bag. If you lose the tweezer, toothpick or scissors, you can buy spares on Amazon.ADULT'S SIGNATURE ON DELIVERY: When you buy any Victorinox item that's shipped by Amazon, whether it's a knife or a non-bladed item like a lanyard, an adult signature is required on delivery.THE 14 FEATURES:Layer Tools:- Large Knife Blade- Small Knife Blade- Scissors- Cap-Lifter/slotted screw-driver - with wire-bender- Can Opener/small-slotted screw-driver - that also works with Phillips screwsBack Layer Tools:- Reamer/Awl - with sewing-eye- Multipurpose Hook- Corkscrew- Keyring/Split-ring attachment pointScale Tools:- Tweezers- Toothpick* The Climber should not be confused with the now discontinued 84mm long Climber Small.

It's not perfect but it's getting there. The scissors are not that big but they are very sharp and very effective, it easily cut my finger nails when I was waiting for the train yesterday. The bottle opener and the cap opener are not at good at as a usual opener and you have to concentrate to get it to work first time but they definitely work and there isn't much more to ask for. The cork screw is good and the body of the knife makes it easier to put the cork out but it isn't something you use much. All the other tools get their use but almost never.Onto the best part, the blades!(The big one is 2.4 inches/6cm and the small one is 1.4 inches/3.65cm) These two knifes are the sharpest knifes I have every used, true story! The blades are fantastically sharp straight out of the box. I think of this as a really good thing but there is a catch to it. It's dangerous to use if your not careful, I cut myself twice the first time I used it. This isn't something to put you off because you learn to use it properly from experience but I'm quite sure you'll cut yourself at least once if your not experienced with these knifes. For those of you in the UK, this is LEGAL to carry on person which means you can actually use it's usefulness in everyday life. For the price, this is a must get knife.

I have had an older Victorinox knife for decades but managed to break the tip from the smaller blade. The scissors had also long since been retired after the leaf spring fractured and fell out, rendering that tool quite useless. If anything, the scissors was the most often used tool on the knife as my mother used to constantly borrow it to use rather than any of her own needlework scissors. It was much sharper than any other and remained so without ever needing to be sharpened. After long ago deciding to replace the older knife, I eventually bit the bullet and ordered another. As best I can recall, I believe I paid a little more for the original all those years ago than I needed to pay now.If anything, I think that today's blades may be rather sharper than yesteryear's and the overall quality is no less. At what is effectively a massively discounted price, it is an absolute bargain!

i purchased this model the climber because of the scissors they are the most used tool on the knife it also has two blades which are like surgeons scalpels can opener for opening cans and doing up phillips head screws, a flat head driver with bottle opener and wire stripper the punch i also find useful occaisionally the hook and corkscrew i do not use so much but they are there when needed.this product carries with it the usual swiss quality you find in a genuine swiss army knife and is legal to carry in the uk making this tool the perfect everyday carry. i kind of wish it had the phillips but then it would be a super tinker but it doesn't deserve to be knocked because i bought this knife regardless, and the black scales look very nice and are more discreet

Many reviewers have pointed out that you only ever replace these SAKs (Swiss Army Knifes) because they get lost! I whole heartedly agree, they exude quality workmanship each one going through over a 100 different processes at the Victorinox factory. The Climber is pretty much perfect as it has everything I need, if you are a more outdoors person I would go for the alox (aluminium) Farmer which replaces the scissors with the saw, it is also more rugged, unfortunately there's no current Alox model of similar size with scissors (unless you cannibalise a Climbers scissors and exchange it with the saw of the Farmer which although difficult is possible. there are dozens of combinations which I am still coming across, buy one you will probably use it every day!

Got this for my partner as a xmas present this year. The product arrived swiftly, within plenty of time for the big day. I almost broke a nail trying to get some of the numerous gadgets out of their sockets, but i wasnt the one going to be using it! My dearest on the other hand was delighted with it and demostrated its many uses throughout the day, puncturing film wrap, opening wine bottles, cutting anything that would usually be torn by hand and then neatly compacted back into his trouser pocket where i beleive its been every since. If your man likes gadgets then he won't be disappointed with this one.

I had for a long time used my unbranded pen knife, however when the scissors broke I decided to buy the real deal. I cannot say I am disappointed, there is a reason Victorinox are so ubiquitous with pen knifes. They are simply the best out there. All the tools are of the highest standard, with both knifes and the scissors razor sharp out of the box. The only thing I wish it had was a saw, but that is my mistake for buying this model and I most likely won't need one anyway. However I have so far managed to use all of the tools provided, apart from the useless hook!

I bought this for my Dad for Xmas and he loves it. It is well made has lots of useful gadgets and is just a great bit of kit to carry in your pocket. It is quite slim considering the range of tool that are in it and is a nice comfortable weight. The blades are extremely sharp so be careful when using to open everything as you won't be able to stop using it. I may even get one for myself. Awesome is how I would describe this item so buy with confidence as it's recipient will not be disappointed.

Not the biggest swiss army knife but small and light, all the best bits a swiss army can have. The steel used for the blade is not as hard as in some gerber or leathermans, but a good general working edge can be achieved with a 1000 grit stone. All in all a very good little knife with no unwanted functions, in my opinion one of the best swiss army models, not too big, but all you need without being a heavy lump in your pocket, a swiss army classic.

Brought this product and I am impressed. I'm starting to travel a lot and just thought having one of these could come in handy so I just leave it in my backpack with other essentials. Genuinely useful tools and made from high quality metal. Brought a cheap alternative from pound land a wile back in a rush before I went camping and it was awful, the tools kept bending out of shape, thankfully don't get the same problem with this product. All good.

Wanted a smaller, Victorinox with less layers for EDC in trouser pockets. Took a while to decide which model to go for, whittling down which tools I'm likely to need or not. Settled on the Climber having ruled out the need for a larger Phillip's and will add a micro screwdriver to the corkscrew (useful for all those toys battery compartments at Xmas).Quality as expected for a Victorinox - excellent!

Bought this as a 21st birthday gift. The item arrived within good time as stated and was very happy with what I recieved. I went on to get this engraved - which does look lovely on the blade but the only problem I had with this item is that nowhere in my area would engrave the outer of the knife as it is plastic. But all in all, very pleased with this product! Would be happy to recommend to all.

3.12.2019

Very light, the tools are smooth when oiled, it is high quality steel but the blades of the scissors tend to lose sharpness easily when used against dense plastics. For the price and the weight it is perfect, I still preferred Victorinox's Swiss Champ but that is basically double the price and weight of this one, it is a matter or personal preference but you can't go wrong with this one.

I bought my granddaughter one of these and liked it so much that I have just purchased another one for myself. BE CAREFUL WITH THE SMALL KNIFE BLADE ITS VERY VERY SHARP and yes I did cut myself on it. My solution to the problem (once I stopped the bleeding on my little finger) was to take the sharp edge off a bit using a piece of 4mm leather on a firm wooden surface.

Does what it says on the tin. The 'gloss' finish wears off very easily/quickly and hence not sure if worth spending the extra on that over the basic matt version. Nevertheless I really like it and truly useful. Tad heavy for your key ring though (ended up using their mini version for that or a small Spyderco, if needing just a small quality utility blade).
