The semi-formerly-feral bincat with a half-bald face currently sitting on this item would rather I hadn't bought it. I'm not sure most people buy it for the reasons I did. I bought it because I needed something heavy to jam in front of the cat flap because he was ripping it off the door. I did not want the cat to rip the cat flap off the door because I did not want to pay several hundred quid to get his neck fixed again because he is no longer young and feral and that crazy psycho-cat who nothing bothers because it has a live squirrel in its mouth. As somebody else's cat is trying to eat him I am using this to enforce his retirement in about as close to a compromise as I can manage. My theory was "If the thing blocking the door belongs to him and not me... maybe he'll be less inclined to express himself on it and throw it against a wall..."Oddly, for a furious feral-tinged cat that has always preferred random outbursts of property destruction and befouling to any kind of cat-targeted entertainment, he seems to like this little thing. There really isn't much to it... it's like someone knocked over the most basic MDF footstool ever made... but the cat has generally just sat on tables instead of any cat furniture anyway so it seems to work for him. He sleeps on the scratching pad and scratches on the cushion because he's a contrarian idiot or I didn't put them on the right way around... I... looking at the small picture to the left of the thing as I type this... ... no it's the cat's fault...The scratching post is a rather fetching seagrass/raffia-like substance that makes everything look a bit swisher than the usual glossier string. I'm not so sure about its long-term resilience as a material in comparison but it certainly looks fancy. The pad is holding up fine despite my initial doubts about it against my cat's fence-climbing claws. The cushion/mat... well... I think he's coughed something up on that... I am not entirely sure why any fancy cat furniture would choose white for its cushions.... I guess they have one of those cats that uses a spittoon.Clearly this whole line is as much as anything for people rather than cats and there's certainly a premium on the price compared to the endearingly nightmarish tangles of furry stuff and chipboard. There are certainly some perks in return though. If your cat likes to try to shed all his fur every day the worst you'll have to do is chuck the cushions etc in the machine. The actual build quality is pretty much indiscernible from good quality mass-market flatpack furniture. Good, solid, hex-bolts into cleanly drilled and threaded holes. I didn't check to see how well it responded to water over time... I'm sure the cat will when it gets angry enough. It feels like it's really going to last even if you're frequently shoving the cat off and putting your coffee and sandwiches on it.Four segmented rubber feet on the bottom stop it moving anywhere and do a very good job of stopping him flinging it out of the way to get to the cat flap. The only thing I don't like, and why I really was tempted to give it four stars if it wasn't so much of a personal issue and unlikely to affect others, I don't like the right-angled corners. The larger items of furniture in the ranger have rounded corners on a lot of the edges but this does not and if your cat is an idiot and is leaping from other pieces of furniture around this item don't be entirely surprised to hear a bit of a thwack.Skullcracker corners-aside, I was impressed enough by this (which I admittedly got used because I half-expected it to be ignored by the cat or tossed out of the way and I wasn't paying that much for that) to buy the taller one of their towers. So now I can't see the corner of my TV.No such thing as a free cat.

Really good unit- bought it to sit beside bed so my cat (who has arthritis) could use it as a step. All three cats like it- good scratch pole and easy to climb. However, I’ve taken a star off as the mat that tapes on to it says it cannot be washed. For something cats are going to be sitting on and walking over, this is obviously not ideal. As another reviewer has noted, the edges are very sharp. I’ve used some Sugru mouldable glue on them (this feels like plastercine when opened but once you leave it to set it becomes a silicone type rubber)- this has worked and has made the edges much safer.
