I really like the design of this scratching post play thingy. But my cats disagree. And really, theirs is the option that should be given the most credence.Assembly was easy and quick. Done in less than 10 minutes. I put it in the middle of the living room, which is a high cat traffic area. One of the cats stared at it. Another cat stared at it. None approached. I helpfully grabbed a spectator and threw them at the toy. Cat walked away in silent protest. I tried again with a different cat. Again, swift departure. Finally a cat did me the favor of investigating the toy. Then he walked away uninterested.Well sometimes it takes cats a while to get used to new things. So I left the device in the high cat traffic area and waited patiently for 2 days. Nothing. So I sprinkled some catnip on the back side. Success! Two cats (out of five) exhibit interest in it now. Catnip is used up. Cats go back to ignoring the toy. 3 days pass. Cat is seen kneading back pad with out prompting or bribery. Have they finally warmed up to it? No, it was a one-off occurrence. A week after assembly and cats (all five) have shown their utter disinterest in this device. Note that the empty cardboard box next to the device had cats playing in it mere hours after placement.I will continue to hope that they will like it eventually. I am also now researching regular cat scratching posts which have been proven to be loved by my cats.UPDATE 10/14/16: A couple of weeks after writing this review, the cats finally started using this thing as a scratching post. Multiple cats have been seen to sharpen their deadly little claws on the back. The front portion seems to remain unused. I have added a star to my rating.

We opened the box (which arrived with nice slim packaging) and were able to assemble the scratcher in about 5 minutes without any additional tools. If you're looking for an easier assembly have a real allen wrench available, but it is possible to assemble it with just the tools included. The materials used were impressive and the scratcher looks very upscale in our living room. It holds together very nicely and is sturdy. In addition, there are a variety of ways you can place it -- we placed it vertically (see photo) -- depending on what your cat enjoys most. The holes you can see in the photos are much too small for our 12 pound adult cat. Honestly, I think only nimble kittens (or if it suits you, rotund rats) would be able to comfortably maneuver through the holes. Our cat was interested in it for a few minutes but then left it alone for about a week. I bought some catnip spray and the cat was immediately interested and batting at the ball on the string. She promptly tore the ball off the string and batted it around the living room (which I believe is more to do with her Hulk-like stature). We find out cats need a little incentive to get them to play with it, but then again our cats primary occupation is sleeping.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this little unit; it looks really nice! This was shipped flat so there was a minimal amount of construction to put it together, accomplished easily with the included tool and easy-to-follow instructions. My two cats were, of course, very curious as I was putting it together and did carry about the balls on the string a couple of times before I was finished. They have explored this quite a bit, sniffing and batting at the balls but haven't shown much interest in any of the scratching aspects of it; my cats are a little odd, though, and don't really seem to like to scratch on many surfaces aside from carpet. The possibility of positioning it in different ways is appealing, though the velcro only allows for the soft pad to securely attach to just one side, not both, as it is smaller than the scratching piece. I'm also not sure why the soft pad is there as I can't imagine my cats cuddling up on it when it is attached to the unit. Overall, this is a very attractive unit that would like nice with any decor yet is still very functional.

Easy assembly using hardware supplied.Probably wouldn't entertain all cats, but bound to be a favorite of some. Many cats prefer an empty box or crumpled cellophane to any toy or device you've spent good money on.A brown paper grocery bag can entertain them for hours.I like the fact that this playstation can be placed in different positions and has pads secured with velcro so they can be removed and changed out. The rattan ball toy is likely to be fascinating to most cats.Nice multi function toy for small to medium sized cats and kittens would probably love it.

This cat playstation is very sturdy and well built. The structure is very solid and heavy enough that the cats can't tip it over. It can be set upright or on it's side, whatever your cat likes. Our cat loves the sisal rope for sharpening his claws. He loves to bat the balls on the string around. The structure is easy to put together and comes with a tool for assembly, which is a nice touch. This structure is probably designed to be more kitten friendly as it is on the small size. Our cat would never fit through the holes.

My cat, Annie, examined this as soon as I had it put together and did play with the balls for a few minutes, but that was about 12 hours ago and she's ignonred it since then. So it looks like she'll get some entertainment from it, but so far doesn't seem very enthusiastic about it. However, she is six years old and of course, not as playful as she used to be. Younger caats will probably love it.

Easy to assemble. Very solid and does not tip over or sway, which is a problem with other scratching posts. The kittens have loved clawing this, climbing up it and hiding in it. Great.

I'm thrilled to have found this for my kitties. Easy maintenance and they love all the cubbies. I now have three different sets...and recommend it for hours of play and nap fun!

Easy to assemble, attractive, no odor/offgassing, and the cats love it! A great product, especially for what I paid ($30).

Our cats love this, but they were able to remove the wicker balls the first day.
