This review is for: Varta 2 x 1 Watt LED Outdoor Sports Head Lamp.Pros*This torch looks nice, gives a good light and is comfortable.*It has 3 batteries but even with them is no heavier than the Varta head light which takes only 2 (Varta 1W LED Sports Headlight).*It has three modes obtainable by repeated clicking of the single button:-1st click gives a lovely long range spot light type of beam-2nd click gives a lovely diffuse spread of light which is a good (fantastic really) work light (although bordering on too bright for some things)-3rd click gives a bright red light (not diffused) which is OK for walking with but too uneven for close up use and too concentrated to be pleasant forreading.*Holding the button down in either of the first two modes dims the light (but you probably won't want to)*It is light enough not to require a strap over the top of your head as heavier ones do.Cons:*The switch takes a lot of pressing and is unpleasant to use. [see update below though] Getting the mode you want or switching torch off requires concentration and is hard work.*There is an unpleasant strobe effect if anything is moving fast in the beam -eg a stream of water from a tap or even turning a page.*The angle adjustment feature is spoilt by the torch clicking shut - ie highest position, which is close to where you actually want it to point. Once it has clicked shut in the up position practice is needed to become proficient on releasing it using only one hand.*The switch went wrong after occasional light use over 2 months. How does it compare with Varta's older model - the Varta 1W LED Sports Headlight which takes 2 aaa batteries (NOT the "indestructible" one)? In my opinion, even though it has slightly better light output the answer is poorly. What a fantastic all-round torch that older one is and what a credit to its designer. I wish they were still available. This could have been a great torch. The construction (apart from the switch) is excellent and a lot of the design is good and works, but it has several serious Achilles heels. In the time I've had it - while it was working - I almost always picked up the older Varta to use instead of this. The older one is a trusted, comfortable, dependable friend which in use becomes part of you, whereas this was always more work.UPDATEThe one with the failed switch was replaced (thankyou Amazon) and then the old one returned. The switch on the new one is fine - in contrast to the failed one it is quite light to use and works fine. The other points still stand though.UPDATE 2I used this torch for reading in bed - with the diffuse setting and dimmed by pressing and holding the button. That was OK at first - not as easy on the eyes as red light but useable . . . . but . . . hang on . . . the brightness kept changing suddenly which was a bit disconcerting and then it turned off. That was repeated 3X. I nearly gave up but put it onto full power diffuse pointing at the ceiling and was able to finish my reading in the book of Revelation like that. So it seems there is a SERIOUS PROBLEM with the electronics used to dim this torch.
