I actually bought this tripod on eBay so that I could use Paypal credit (something similar any time soon, Amazon?), but thought it worth sharing my thoughts about this product on here.So the very first thing I noticed about this tripod, as the postman handed me the box, was just how light it was! I had been using a cheap (in cost and quality) tripod previous to this, but I wasn't expecting the Vanguard to be any lighter. I was very pleasantly surprised by the weight though.NB: I have added a Manfrotto XPRO Arca Swiss ballhead to this, and that does seem to increase the weight quite noticably - I'd be interested to see how Vanguard's own ballhead affects the weight though. In terms of functionality the Alta Pro 2+ really does have some great features.Straight out of the box and the first thing I eagerly tested was the Multi-Angle Central Column. This works perfectly, just as I had hoped, and everything secures quite solidly when the column is placed at various angles. It would have been nice to have a hook at the end of the column like the older model (is there one hidden away somewhere? I can't find it if there is). But having said that I did notice that there is a small hoop under the spirit level that should be good for hanging some kind of counterweight. The next thing I played with was the legs. These adjust very nicely, just pull on the clips and swing the legs out to the desired angle, simple! Having the ability to control the angle of each leg independently from the others, as you'd expect from a higher-end tripod, is also very useful. And folding the legs back in is quick and easy and is accompanied by a hearty robust "CLICK" as the legs pass each angle increment. The twist locks on the legs also work perfectly. A quick twist, pull the legs out, and another twist to lock them in place. The only slight criticism here is the direction of the twist for unlocking and locking, which I thought felt a little counter-intuitive for some reason. I'm still twisting in the direction but I'm sure I'll get used to that soon. It's probably just me though, so not really a criticism on the tripod itself. As for stability, the Alta Pro 2+ is absolutely solid! Even with the legs fully extended everything feels study and secure, a breath of fresh air after having used a cheap wobbly tripod in the past. And with the Manfrotto XPRO attached and a Canon 6D with a 24-105mm lens mounted, I'm happy knowing that this beauty should stay put when taking long exposures or bracketing shots. Now I haven't had much chance yet to get out and about for some landscape shots, what with the Scottish Highland weather being very typically Scottish, so we'll see how this holds up over time and under different conditions. But based on first impressions I am very optimistic.Overall, I am extremely happy with the Vanguard Alta Pro 2+ 263CT. Solid and sturdy while being light and adjustable, with a lovely finish and plenty of functionality that adds lots of versatility for different types of photography. So far I really am struggling to find any fault with this tripod. So if you can afford it then I would highly recommend it. If you can't, then I'd recommend the 263AT instead, which is the slightly heavier but more affordable aluminium version. Top quality product from Vanguard and I'm genuinely impressed with everything about this tripod!

Its light enough so I can carry it in one hand for an hour at a time. It even hangs off my camera shoulder pack without issue. Despite the legs being quite thin, it’s really stable, which is also testament to good engineering in the joints. I'm certainly not worried about it supporting my heaviest telephoto lens. It collapses down small enough so I can take it in my carry-on luggage. The model delivered to me was black, rather than the grey shown in most images - I much prefer it.I’ve bought a QS-60S mounting plates for permanent connection to a big lens so that mounting and, hopefully, getting the shot, will always be quick. At just under £245 if you shop around, it’s certainly not cheap, carbon fibre never is, but how many times in a lifetime does a photographer buy a new tripod! if it last for as many decades as my old, relatively heavy, SLIK AF2100, it will definitely be great value for money.By profession, I’m trained to anticipate what can go wrong. The thread that holds the head to the tripod is reversible in case you need a different thread size. If I lost it mid-trip, the tripod would be out of action. I’ve put a spot of Loctite on the thread to prevent accidental unscrewing. Easy tweak.I can’t imagine a better tripod in this price band, and I did a lot of looking.

No doubt that this is a very well made tripod, not the lightest but I really wanted something a little heavier than the travel tripod I have and this is perfect. Made from Aluminium which is why it has that extra weight with a very nice finish to all of the parts. The legs lock perfectly with the twist lock system for the height and the legs can be adjusted for spread using locks at the top, this coupled with the ability of the centre column to be used at various angle make this tripod very versatile and an excellent buy.. Highly recommended

Sturdy and very configurable. This provides a very stable platform and the height extension maxes it very adaptable for people over 6ft. That flexibility means it’s large and not super light. Great tripod though, I use it mostly for Astro work
