Having camped in a lot of different tents over the years, and owned several myself, I had a shopping list of things I was looking for in my latest one: easy to put up (single-handed if needed), stable in up to moderate weather, a decent sized porch, a variety of doors (and not ones I need to crawl through), preferably a bit of head room and overall, reliably weatherproof. After reading the reviews, I still wasn't sure, but I'm glad I went for this tent.It went for its first spin in Cornwall last weekend and did brilliantly. The standard dome configuration is very easy to pitch, especially for novices, and I didn't even bother getting the instructions out to look. Two same length poles cross at the back to form the sleeping compartment, and a single, shorter pole (marked with blue ends) goes across the porch. It's quite a big tent, so I'd suggestly loosely pegging the back if there's any wind, whilst you pop the back poles up and in, and then shuffling the dome square and pegging properly, but it's generally easy to manage. We had 3 of us putting the tent up and even having never seen it before, we were done in just over 10 mins. The inner clips neatly in once the outer's pegged and job done. The "bathtub" description of the groundsheet in the porch worried me slightly, as did reviews of water coming in when the doors were open .... so I'd like to offer reassurance. Firstly, it rained quite a lot last weekend and quite heavily - the tent was completely waterproof, aside from a few tiny drips through the front zip where I hadn't properly velcro'd the outer flap down properly that covers the zip and the wind had flipped it up - to be fair it was raining hard and really windy, but just sticking the velcro down properly solved that. Like any tent, there will be some run-off from the roof after rain - I didn't think this tent was any worse than any other I've had for that, and whilst someone else's suggestion of a guiding "ridge" above the door to divert the water would be ace, a few drips aren't the end the world. Most of it can be avoided by just tapping the inside of the tent lightly before you exit to shake the excess water off, and unzipping the door gently and holding it outside the tent for a few seconds to let the run off shift.I was also concerned that if the porch groundsheet was a sealed bathtub then any water wouldn't be able to get out and it would quickly get muddy and wet in there. It's not actually completely sealed though - the outer walls have a little turn-under on the inside and the ground sheet overlaps that but isn't fixed, which allows any water to run out in the event of a leak or spillage. What the overlap does do though is make the porch remarkably draft free when you're sitting in it which is nice in not-so-great weather!I'm 5 ft 6 and whilst I can't stand straight, the tent is tall enough to let me walk around and tidy up / get changed with only a bit of a stoop which is much more comfortable than smaller tents. There's is definitely enough height to sit in a camp chair in the porch, and I think you could squeeze 3 chairs and a small camp table in the porch at a push.Overall - a great tent for couples or solos who want some space, or for 3-4 friends a bit more cosily. 5 is possible but a proper sardines affair. Great tent for the price!

This is a good basic tent at a reasonable price - it's fairly large, although I'd question whether 5 normal people would sleep in it. I bought it for me, my wife and 3 yr old son to use and it was just about the right size for us and a small amount of equipment. It 's very easy to get set up - i did it on my own the first time in about 20 minutes and got that down to about 10 with a bit of help.Only used it so far in the summer and apart from a couple of light showers it's not really been put to the test in bad weather. Whilst there were no signs of it leaking - I'm not sure it would cope with persistent heavy rain /wind over any great length of time.If you're after something relatively large at a reasonable price to use over the summer then I'd recommend this - however you'd probably want to spend a bit more if you're going to be doing any serious camping.

I camp alone for long periods and take my astronomical telescope so I need a tent with enough room for this and my camping luxuries, as well as a tent that keeps everything dry, this tent is perfect, I have camped all my life, starting with Cubs and Scouts right through to my now 49th year, this is the best tent I have owned. It is very easy to put up, only 15 minutes for me on my own, It will comfortably sleep 4, and if you peg it out properly wont leak at all, and the ground sheet design stops seepage and unwanted creepy crawlies, it is extremely well made and I expect it to last me a long time, as near perfect a tent as I have come across.

Fantastic tent, very spacious with a large tented canopy at the front. Not sure it would fit 5 people perhaps 2/3 comfortably. Not had a double skinned tent before and would recommend a peg mallet to drive the pegs in otherwise I found the wind kept pulling them out, also the ground sheet to the front canopy section is not attached (the lip and sheet overlap) which is a shame as water could come in. Otherwise quiet easy to erect and put away, took me alone about 15minutes. Tent bag is spacious so no problem packing up. Being able to stand (about 5ft 5) is a massive bonus. Two little hooks inside to attach lights

Used this recently in high winds and heavy rain when camping on a high hill by the sea. Was not convinced by lightweight poles, however, it stood up to heavy winds when other tents collapsed. Tent pegs did need re-pegging regularly due to particularly heavy winds, but overall, performed well. Fully waterproof, could see rain rolling off tent. Plenty of space, though not for 5. Really good airflow through tent which completely stopped condensation, but meant it was colder. Personally, I prefer no condensation or drips, and to just pack extra blanket or sleeping bag.

the first expensive tent i've ever purchased, bought it as an upgrade from my usual january sales bargain for festivals - Just got back from this V festival this year and not only did it cope with weather and rain but it also did a great job of packing away as it comes in the most forgiving bag i've ever seen for a tent. Wasn't too hot but neither was the weather and there was definitely enough room for 2 - 4 people comfortably or the advertised 5 if you're into orgies/human spoonapedes.3 poles to set it up, bit tricky with 2 people but certainly doable.

We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the tent, its massive!Being black the inside is quite dark which will be a great help getting children to sleep.I love the pattern on the material! The build quality looks good, though we havent used them yet.The porch is large so should store loads of gear, the way the front slops backwards maybe a disadvantage as the rain may trickle inside when you open the flap. The anchor points look strong and glowing green guys to finish it off, its a good looking tent. I cant wait to get them pitched!

Brilliant family tent! Had this tent years ago for me and my husband to go camping, was devastated when we lost it when moving house. Have now purchased a new one for me, my husband and twins to go camping. Definitely a great family tent with lots of sleeping room and big porch area. Compacts really small, so is great for when you don't have a lot of space in the car boot. Our first tent lasted years and I expect this one to last a long time to.

As is typical of Vango, this is a quality product. It is well thought out and easy to assemble into a spacious tent. The poles are a slightly larger diameter and a lot sturdier than typical tent poles. Even with a young puppy, erecting the tent was quick and simple, it took no longer than 10 minutes from unpacking to standing. No noticeable wind buffeting. Thoughtful placement of zips etc.Highly recommend (and it looks pretty good too!)

Went camping recently and used this tent for the first time.It had A LOT of room. The great thing about the compartment at the front is that we were able to put a lot of stuff there including some food. This was great because it kept animals from getting in.We were able to fit a double mattress really easily and probably would be able to fit two of those side by side.Over all i am extremely happy with this.

Not for carrying, but great for a weekend away. It's much larger than expected.... but that's why I bought it. I'm 5'4 and could stand up in the inner, and almost in the outer. Super easy set up... 3 poles only and as a dome, fairly easy for one person on their own. Though it's a massive tent to have all to yourself! Not had to withstand heavy rain etc yet, but I suspect, like most Vango tents.

We bought 10 of the Apollo 500's for our summer scout camps and future camps. We billet 4 or 5 scouts or cubs in. The spacious porch area is important for us. It is tight inside for 5 but still doable. Our tents get some knock abouts and so far they have performed well. We had a wet night and they coped well. So far there are no real weak points . They are easy to rig and de-rig.

This tent offers good value for money. It’s perfect for car camping which is what I bought it for. Enough room for 5 to sleep in bedroom with storage in the porch.Only thing I don’t like is that the guy lines are grey so you end up tripping over them - would be better if they were orange or yellow, other than that it’s perfect with the usual Vango quality.

Great value. Used twice for festivals. Easy to put up and take down, the oversize bag is brilliant! It’s light to carry. Camped in over two weekends, rained both times, tent remained dry. Remarkably spacious, but 5 is really pushing it, 3 would be max, excellent for couples with additional space - porch area is great to sit in when it’s raining!

20.10.2018

Camped in good weather. Great size for 2. Fairly straightforward to erect and plenty of room. Bed area easily swallowed up a king size mattress and porch area accommodated couple of chairs and a small table. Cool colour too! Although isn't blackout material was bit darker inside which helped in the morning.
