The item is neat and well built. Installation very easy just pop the disc in and away you go. The userguide however is non existant. Connecting to the internet using dial up was very easy and quite straight forward, however trying to send a fax was a completely different experience. After 4 hours of trawling through the inernet ,I found out that you need to type a 1 in front of the telephone number when using the Macbook Pro pre-installed fax program. After that the the fax went through fine.I also tried this on a Windows Xp Pc and found that the disc has BVRP Phone Tools. I have used this before and it is very easy to use send faxes, with built in housekeeping. Records of Faxes sent, received etc .I could send a fax very easily using the device, however could not connect to the internet.. This is not a fault with the device, more a Windows Xp problem .So if you require a means of connecting a Mac to the inernet via dial up I would throughly recommend it. It also seems to work fine for faxing. However due to lack of good fax software for Mac's you have to do your own housekeeping in terms of Faxes sent, Faxes received atc. Overall a good product if a little expensive.

Fairly unbelievably, this product does NOT include a UK 'BT' modem cable. You get a US-style RJ11-to-RJ11 cable, which is useless in the UK. Fortunately, I had a cable from an old modem, but Amazon and USR should make it clear that this modem can't be used "out of the box" in the UK.Once the cable issue was sorted out, this modem worked fine with the CDC-ACM modem driver in Linux, and supports UK caller ID with AT#CID=1 which is great, as a good many "caller ID capable" modems don't actually work in the UK as it's a different system to most rest of the world.

I bought this to receive Caller ID information so I can see who is calling before answering the phone when I upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit as my old Zoom modem didn't have 64 bit drivers.US Robotics isn't the cheapest gear but it is good quality and this is no exception. I popped in the driver CD and installed the driver, thne plugged this modem into a USB port and it was instantly recognized by the system and my caller ID software (Identify! from Imptec.com in case you are wondering.)And now I have UK caller ID. Perfect.

Great piece of kit, this - once set up, works silently and very effectively indeed with my new Windows 8 laptop(none of the old dial-up noisy crackles/ring tones etc.).My only grumble was that it wasn't really the 'plug and play' ease of set up that the packaging promised. OK, I eventually managed to work out how to install using the CD within Printers and Devices [strangely not through the Phone & Modem icon] but it was a bit of a hassle (not immediately easy to locate the installation software on the CD itself).

I'm speech-impaired so I use a faxModem to turn my PC into an adhoc textphone, which allows me to make immediate 'voice' calls to anyone - SMS is not always used or monitored closely, especially by companies.Bought this to replace a 25yr old beaten-up USR Voice external desktop FaxModem. I could've gotten pretty much a direct replacement for £15 cheaper but I just wanted to cut down on cable clutter - plus I knew USR works fine with the phone systems that I use.

Needed a dial-up modem for banking purposes - this particular modem was recommended by the bank. Was easy to install, worked first time. Only had the connections for US phone lines though - needed to buy an adapter to work on the UK phone network (only cost £4.oo from various outlets so no great problem).

US Robotics modems just seem to work! I've had nothing but problems with Zoom in the UK, even with the correct country set-up, but this modem came to the rescue. My only complaint is that there is no speaker on it and it doesn't feed into the computer speakers (the Zoom does). I recommend it.

This is a great product. I am using it on a windows server to run an automated fax program, and it works as well as one could expect. It is really simple to install, and the drivers are included in server 2008 R2, so no need to download. It is small and easy to use.

This is an excellent bit of kit and along with a special piece of software it has enabled a number of blind people to make phone calls all on there own. it helps to dial the number and then connects the call. it is small, compact as well as being robust.

I used it for picking up CallerID and it worked exactly as I wished for. Easy to install, run straight away, no hassle. A part from the price, this modem looked prettier and smarter than any I have bought before. Love it.

Great fax modem which works well under Windows 7 (as well as previous operating systems). Its unobtrusive and doesn't require a power socket, obtaining its power from the USB port.

A good well made product which performs as I wish. I have not used it as a fax modem but for pc to pc communications it works fine.

I bought this for someone else, they love it, I don't even know what it is, so can only pass on that it does what they wanted.

Very good, this is my second one, first bought 7years ago just stopped working, the new one just plug in and no problem

Small, light, self-powered and cool running. More importantly, it also properly understands UK callerid signalling.
