9 months after the release of Marvel VS Capcom 3, Capcom have released the latest big update to the game in the form of Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 for retail. 12 new characters, 8 new stages, rebalanced gameplay, improved online features and the long awaited spectator mode have made it to this release. At a cheaper price than the first game, it's an absolute steal and worth getting. As with the original MVC3, there is little to no plot in the game apart from knowing both universes of Marvel and Capcom collide and awaken Galactus, leaving it up to the heroes of both sides to take him down and save the earth. In Ultimate MVC3, the game does begin with a short prologue this time which uses the comic that came with the special edition of the game in USA.It's a nice touch even if there is hardly any story to be had. There is really no need for a story in this kind of game as the gameplay is why you'd want to buy this. The gameplay is exactly like last time. You have a team of 3 characters and you fight your opposing teams to win. The fighting system remains the same but with some balances to already existing characters as well as giving some of them new moves. The X Factor ability which increased your strength and speed has been balanced out this time to be not so overpowered and you can now activate it in the air. The game remains highly accessible to newcomers and hardcore fighting game fans alike with two different control styles. There's the Normal setup which has the many button combinations of past fighting games and the Simple mode for those who are new to fighting games with simple button presses to perform the flashy and powerful moves. The 12 new characters added to the roster bring the grand total to 48 characters, or 50 if you have the DLC characters Jill Valentine and Suma Gorath. The new characters for Marvel's side are Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, Nova and Rocket Raccoon. The new characters for Capcom's side are Strider Hiryu, Firebrand, Nemesis, Vergil, Frank West and Phoenix Wright. Each of them bring very unique play styles to the table and are really fun to use.The online mode has gratefully improved from the original game. The first MVC3 had a lot of problems with the online features. The netcode wasn't great, you were booted back to the main menu if you didn't find a connection and there was no spectator mode which made waiting in lobbies for your turn very boring. Ultimate MVC3 has fixed all those issues and the online has a much better performance now. The addition of the Spectator mode is very welcome and makes waiting for your turn much more interesting as you will be able to see other matches take place. There is much less lag now, but it will vary on your internet connection. You also now get to see your opponent's connection signal before you battle and there is now a feature where you can see if the player is good sport or a rage quitter. Multiplayer also exists outside the online mode which will please those who want to play with friends on the same console. The graphics remain the same as the previous game which looks fantastic. The visual style has a great cel-shaded comic book look to it and it all runs at a smooth 60 frames per second. The menus have had an overall which look like comic book panels. The same goes for the character select screen which looks brilliant. The audio has the same catchy soundtrack and character themes along with some brilliant sound effects which you can customise and the voice acting for the characters is solid. You have the option to switch the Capcom characters voices to English or Japanese which will please those who prefer a certain voice for the characters. If you never brought the original Marvel VS Capcom 3, this upgrade is highly recommended if you enjoy fighting games that are fast and frantic. If you already brought the original game, again this is highly recommended. Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 is the definitive version of the game. It's cheaper price, new additions and gameplay balances make it worth the money. Hands down the best fighting game I've ever played. Let's play some Marvel baby!

Its only a short 9 Months after the original was released, so is this just a cash in or indeed the ultimate version of the game?. Well Yes and no. It all depends on what type of fighter gamer you are. From a casual's perspective the package can seem pretty shallow, with only the bare minimum in modes for offline play whilst the more serious hardcore fighting gamer will revel in the unlimited depth that the core fighting mechanics and strategy offers. For all the lack of bells and whistles, underneath it all is a seriously well made game. As someone who is more on the hardcore side of fighting gaming, I do not even dare to mention the amount of hours spent in training mode, trying out extended combos and team combinations to then take online and test myself against others. Whilst there are certain characters and comeback mechanics which in my opinion cater to the lazy and sloppy, you sort of have to just take it or leave it. When this game clicks in your head it is one of the most wonderfully stimulating fighting games in recent memory but if your not on the ball be prepared to be SERIOUSLY frustrated.Although I think Capcom did a good job of creating a game that appeals to all skill levels, If you are a casual gamer just wanting to play this for fun online, you will loose, and loose very badly. A lot of the time you will be annihilated and not even understand why. The difference between skilled players and beginner has never been so apparent. If you decide to take the plunge on this game be ready to put some work in or you will be relegated to playing the frankly sparse single player content. The Argument of this simply being a DLC is very wishy washy. Again it depends on what camp your sitting in, but try to consider that in a fighting game the core content IS the CHARACTERS and by adding 12 of them, it completely changes the overall dynamic of the gameplay, so much so that all the orignal characters have to be changed to fit around it. I think a lot of people fail to realise the logistics of making a fighting game when there are millions of variables and each character has to be balanced against 49 others before completion. Personally I think there is enough change from the original to warrant a separate release. In short, if you are deeply in to fighting games then the value for money comes from improving as a player and playing others, which is unlimited because of online. If you are just looking to mash buttons you will find the game fun in the short term but as the single player content is lacking you will have to either play online or move along. The game did come out a lot sooner than expected, but it is important to the fighting game community to have a game that addresses what is wrong with the orginal and makes the overall experience the best it can be. The new characters breathe new life in to this game which makes trying to work it out all over again a treat.

I have just recently purchased this game and I must say its very entertaining, and hilariously funny. The controls are simple, and there is a large character roster of which you can easily learn to create your best team (Dr. Doom, Vergil and Nemesis). My regret is that I wished I had bought the game earlier, its a shame because I missed out on the DLC characters Jill Valentine and Shuma-Gorath. Anyways, it is a must-have game for anyone who is part of the fighting games community!Important note: If you've decided to get this game, then do so quickly! Sooner or later the disc copies that are circulating in the market will eventually go extinct (as in a similar manner with Marvel vs Capcom 2).Not to mention, the digital version of this game (along with all it's DLC content) has been removed permanently from PlayStation Network & XBOX live since December 19th 2013. So you won't be able to get any DLCs for this game!

This is a fantastic game, great unique graphics and has a wide selection of characters to choose from, and as a wonderful extra bonus they added galactus as a playable character in his own mode which gives you the chance to K.O like a god. Mostly all the characters they have i have fun using, especially the newest additional characters including Resident evil's favourite antagonist Nemesis, Dead rising's frank west and marvel's spirit of vengeance Ghost rider. this is one crazy over the top game and controls do take some time getting used too. Overall great game and i highly recommend to any capcom or marvel fans out there. :)

As someone who is old enough to remember the golden age of the 2D fighting games in the 90's I can say that this is one of the most enjoyable and well balanced, the sprites of the characters are all well drawn and have good sense of play from one another, the "story" of the game is weak and really an after thought and you really have to play online or with a friend to get the most out of the game as is true with all games of this type. In short highly recommended for both fighting game fans and the causal gamer.

This game is pretty much what original MvC3 should be, albeit released later as fill in.It's the same as previous part, but with more content. So, whatever you're wondering if you should get it or not.If you like MvC series, then sure, this should enhance your experience."Why not 5 stars then?"Because Capcom was sloppy, and pulled a quick one on us, by releasing this two months after default MvC3

Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is the new version from the previous Marvel Vs Capcom 3 with extra characters, would definitely recommend this game to others who played Marvel Vs Capcom franchise since PS1/PS2 now PS3.Well if you people out there like fighting games this is one of them to add to your collection.

Ultimate marvel vs capcom 3 let's just say its 1 of the best fighting games you can get your hands on and for this great price it's so reasonable, I'm a huge fan of comic books marvel dc and also Japanese anime/manga and I love capcom, so it is awesome to see a game like this and even better to own it

28.2.2013

I grew up reading a lot of the marvel characters as I used to collect and read a lot of the comic books, so to be able to play these characters from my childhood is a great nostalgia feeling! As a really big punisher fan I'm just gutted that this character isn't involved!

I cannot comment about the game itself as I bought it for my son, but he seems to like it. Game was delivered eight days after purchase. I was kept informed about the dispatch date and when to expect delivery. I would use this company again.

6.11.2013

I've always been a fan of Marvel v Capcom games and this one enhances on the previous version greatly! Graphics are great and while gameplay is familiar, there are still some new tricks to learn. Love it!

21.3.2013

Great game, great tunes, great characters. Plenty to get stuck into here. No complaints, if anything, this is what the original MvC3 should have been when released. Oh well.

6.11.2017

A step up from Fate of Two Worlds due to the added content and balance changes. I also think this game has the most diverse roster out of all the MvC games thus far.

3.1.2012
