Had this on my wishlist and a friend bought it for me for Xmas. I've had some dire wooden puzzle kits in the past, full of splinters, badly cut, rubbishy wood and so on, but I thought I'd give it a go. I was dubious that this would be "no glue" but it has been precision cut, needed no sanding and no glue either. Not one splinter!It's basically a low-difficulty puzzle box which locks its own key into its lid. That said, when it's locked you won't get into it without a hammer. It's not massive inside, but it's not meant to be for keeping all your valuables in.I love that they've made sure you can see all the gears and mechanisms (and the little iris on the top) because they're really lovely to watch.

This will be a long and detailed review that can help many prospective buyers.Firstly I’d like to say that I bought this product as a gift. I assembled it myself and gifted it to my significant other. I loved the process and my partner adored the gift. It’s beautiful and unique!Now, assembling the product was mostly easy, but there were definitely difficulties. It needs time and patience! I personally broke a key base piece that made the process more difficult but I eventually managed to put it all together. REMEMBER that when trying to take out the smallest or slimmest pieces, ALWAYS use the little tool provided as opposed to knives or excessive force. If you break something critical then you’re most likely screwed.

This was my first UGears or anything like this.It says it should take 2-3 hours to assemble but it took me pretty much double that. I spent most of my time waxing the pieces because I wanted to make sure it worked properly. Considering it tells you to wax the pieces at almost every step, there should be wax included in the kit.Made a few mistakes as I was doing it but I realised and had to go back. I think it would be nice if the instructions had some words to follow as well because sometimes it was a tiny bit confusing.The box looks GREAT and my family seemed quite impressed with me lolI give it 5 stars purely because of how it looks at the end

My daughter and I spent a very happy day making this. I was amazed by the accuracy of the cutting.There are some intricate bits. Some steps require careful force. And some you have to really pay attention to the plan.Provided you go carefully, step by step, there is every reason to expect success.Ugears provide spare pieces in case you break one (we didn’t) and I read in their website that they will send replacement pieces free of charge. That’s good to know because it is certainly possible to break a piece.This is probably the best thing I’ve bought on Amazon. Top, top quality.Five stars. I’d give it six if I could!

i have bought ugears before and this model was as usual a brilliant piece of work (i would mention that when fixing the arms for the lid take extra care as i broke one but as it was only for support it still works perfectly well,i would also mention that i use me tin of car grease and not the candle grease,much better) looks great too.mind you it does warn you on the parts that need a bit extra care. as a modeller for over 40yrs of planes ships r/c models i find these made of very good plywood and very precise,the working mechanism is a work of art. mind you this is not for child. it is also a useful trinket box! def recommend

There was a similar product by a different manufacturer which was cheaper but the reviews weren't great so I went ahead with the UGears treasure box - so pleased that I did as it really is excellent quality and the box looks great to the point I want it out on display. I bought it as a gift for my partner who enjoys 3d puzzles and he really did enjoy building this. It's quite fiddly which I think is good as I didn't want it to be too easy - I guess he spent about 3-4 hours building it to completion. We both think it's great and I will definitely be looking at the rest of the range in the future for other gift ideas.

When we first opened the box and saw all the parts it was an OMG moment. Once we got started though we were just eager to get more done.Some parts are difficult to remove and a screwdriver came in very handy. Top tip, you need wax for the moving parts but also can use on other parts so they are easier to push fit.Follow the instructions carefully and make sure you push home all parts. After we finished the box would not open on one side but that was because the hinge pins were sitting proud by just 1mm. Once pushed in, all good.Took around 6 hours to finish and thumbs are very sore but overall very pleased.

I bought this to make as a gift for a friend, and despite it being fiddly, it was incredibly fun. I completed it over the course of a day and although my thumbs and fingertips are now red raw it was well worth it. The instructions are nice and clear, did have a little bit of confusion toward the end but it turned out that the mechanism was a little stiff. Would definitely buy again, whether it would be this exact model or a different model from UGEARS I am not yet sure.You don't need to be overly crafty to do this, just quite patient and inquisitive. Well worth the money!

Bought another Ugears kit for our son-in-law for Christmas, and he said how good it was. Then my wife's sister had a treasure box made for her by her son, my wife liked it so I said I would build her one. It arrived late on a Thursday, stated it the following PM and finished it on the Saturday late morning, so not long overall. Good quality kit, easy to follow instructions (just take your time to do it precisely right) and very pleased with the outcome. Does exactly what it says on the box, and I would recommend. Certainly will be looking at more Ugears stuff in the future!

This is such a beautifully crafted piece of kit, I felt it deserved a bit of embellishment so l lined the interior with sticky backed felt (£1 a sheet from a hobby shop) and gilded the front panel with 24ct gold. I also lacquered the external panels before separating them from the plywood sheets. This little jewellery box looks absolutely gorgeous and far more complicated than it actually is. I tended to lightly sand some of the wooden pegs so they didn’t jam half in during assembly. Full credit to the designers - it’s a long time since I’ve been blown away by a product.

Ordered this as my husband had a motorbike kit to do, so fancied having a go at the treasure box. So daunting when you open the box but once i had started I was hooked. Still not finished but great feeling as you progress and manage to fit pieces together. I would not attempt if you are tired at all as needs a lot of concentration. Would have given 5 stars but did find some of the instructions unclear i.e. pictures not showing clearly how pieces should sit. Overall a great little item to make, will probably be trying a different kit after this.

Bought when price dropped to around £35, in my opinion anything over £40 for this is too much since it's easy for a beginner to mess up. I've had to buy and make before purchasing for my brothers teenaged children. This is the easier treasure box version. Wax is not included. As I said it's easier to build than the other cheaper treasure box but it did take me a bit longer as it has more parts to wax. It looks nice but somehow the cheaper smaller one is my favourite of the 2

Please do not be put off by the price. These are high quality kits. I have also built the robot, and everyone who has seen it says fantastic. I'm in my fifties and spent time sanding and fine glueing and would say personally with my experience would not buy for an under 14 year old unless they have some experience in model building. Also for advice, take your time, use minimal glue, wipe off any excess. Sand off wood splinters. Enjoy.

Absolutely lovely piece, well worth the money. Not particularly easy to assemble, and I thoroughly recommend investing in more wax and melting it before application - liberally coat every mechanical part with it, because getting the mechanism moving is a nightmare and because of the construction the separate parts cannot be worked beforehand. Be gentle and keep working a little at a time and it will start to move smoothly eventually.

been eyeing this for quite a while, bought it for my boyfriend as a xmas present, surely he will love it. my only comment is that the person who delivered this from amazon absolutely smashed the box and left it in the rain. luckily the actual product box was sealed in plastic, otherwise it would have soaked the wood and be completely wrecked. basterds
