I'm very happy with this little box which I am using in conjunction with my Turtle Beach PX21s (which I'm not so happy with, another review but the same issues with one of the speakers starting to die). The emulated surround is very noticeable compared to the natural stereo of console headsets, but you have got to remember to set your game to output Dolby 5.1 or you wont have any sound, This caused me an issue as for ages I could not figure out why Datura and Uncharted had no sound. It has been awesome playing Battlefield 3 and being able to turn round and stop someone sneaking up behind you. The surround feels very natural, it might aswell be a full surround headset which actually has multiple speakers. The other features are token but still good quality, the equaliser has only presets but the presets are good and there is a wide range of them. In context of my Battlefield 3 gaming you can cheat a little and use a preset with very high treble which allows you to hear footsteps very clearly over the booming explosions of the battlefield. Also, one great addition is the input jack for your mp3 player or phone, this really only benefits PS3 players as we don't have the ability to play music on the console while playing a game. One note to make is, when setting up, after your done faffing with the bunch of wires (which Turtle Beach love and is very annoying, thank good the cables are long so you can tuck them out the way) and are doing up the sound settings on a Ps3 ignore the frequency it tells you to use and use the one with more channels, as i had issues with using online chat being incredibly quiet when going through the DSS 2 but this fixed the issuePeople might be a bit put off that this small, not particularly stylish looking, box costs around £60. But when you compare the good quality surround experience (what you are paying for here is the well designed inards which turn a 5.1 input into a stereo output which emulates what it would sound like with 5 speakers) with a lot lot more expensive full surround headset it is a definite budget option, also these surround headsets are mainly output only and don't have mics for online gaming. So if you don't need chat and are an audiophile who wants barely noticeable increase in sound quality go for a dedicated headset, but for the average gamer on console this is a much cheaper option just maybe don't get Turtle Beach PX21s with it because the speakers are prone to breaking.

I bought this turtle beach Dolby Surround Sound processor version 2 (DSS2) to add surround sound to my turtle beach XP300 wireless stereo gaming headset.I ordered this on Last Saturday and it arrived yesterday (Tuesday), It was posted via UK Royal Mail 48 hour signed for delivery, as the standard option for free.the device it's self just hooks into my PS3 via the optical cable (provided) and the usb power cable (provided), then my headset transmitter connects to this via 3.5mm stereo audio cable, and a USB power which plugs into the USB on the DSS2, saving the use of another precious USB slot. then just set the console audio to Dolby Digital 5.1 and there we go,stereo headset becomes surround sound headset. The surround sound effect of the DSS2 is very good, but those who have had a physical 5.1 system, will notice the difference between their system and this. after a little tinkering with the settings however I am very happy with the directionality of the sound, that is to say that I can tell where a vehicle is or gun fire is coming from via the headset without having to sin around wildly lookng for them. One other thing to note - if you have a headset with presets, ie equaliser and enhanced stereo, I would advise setting these to "normal" or "flat", so as these settings to not interfere with the settings on the DSS2There are 2 main settings parameters:- Surround sound virtual speaker angleThis allows the user to vary the virtual surround sound environment to give the best directionality. the booklet will state the various virtual speaker placement angle numbered presets, when you press the surround sound speaker button you will notice the lights count from right to left across the device to the number of preset. (took me a minute or 2 to figure out how it indicates the preset selected- equalizer (sound profile)This allows the user to vary the equlaizer or sound profile of the headset, the booklet will state the various equalizer or sound profile numbered presets, when you press the equlizer button you will notice the lights count from right to left across the device to the number of preset, as above.all in all a great addition to my gaming setup, that does what they say it will and with the PS4 coming with no auxiliary cable (the red white and yellow one that goes to a scart converter) this will allow me to keep using my current headset when I get the PS4

I bought this to go alongside a Turtle Beach Ear Force Kilo Headset, both of which I use primarily with my PC, but I've tested both products on Xbox 360 and PS3 as well. They work like a charm. The headset itself has really good sound quality, but we're here to discuss the DSS 2.Firstly, I will mention two things that aren't really spoken about in the product description. You WILL NEED a headset that has a 3.5mm jack, not USB. There is a USB port on front, but that is a bypass port, whatever you plug in there DOES NOT get processed by the DSS 2. This is very important for prospective buyers to know. The other important factor is that for a PC, extra set up is required to get your Digital Optical Audio output port sending a surround sound signal, and this is not mentioned, nor well documented by Turtle Beach. It took me a while to figure it out, but some creative googling and I got it. However I fear many would not, and that some may not even have the correct hardware requirements, so if you're looking to use this for PC, PLEASE make sure you have a soundcard with a Digital Optical Audio OUTPUT port, this is sometimes referred to as SPDIF Out in your Playback Devices list. Also make sure your soundcard can run Dolby Digital Live encoding. The way the encoding works is, you still use your main speaker output for sound, but you enable it to be encoded by Dolby Digital Live, and tell it to send the encoded sound to your SPDIF Out. You can then mute the speakers, and with your DSS 2 plugged into the Optical Audio output, and your headphones plugged into the DSS 2, you'll have beautiful surround sound.Setup is MUCH simpler for consoles, you simply plug the DSS 2 into the Optical Audio output and it works. No fiddling with settings required. When I got the DSS 2 working, I had nearly completed the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 campaign. I started it up, headphones on, ready to be disappointed, and was simply blown away. It was worth the effort. I couldn't believe how much I had been missing out.If you're on the fence about this product, and have a compatible headset, and comptaible console/PC with compatible soundcard, seriously, just get it.

I've had my DSS2 device for 2 years now to which I had bought at my GAME store and it's still going strong.I also recently bought a laptop to which it only has a 3.5mm jack and it hasn't got a optical socket and my only goal is to have 5.1 surround sound going through it.I will buy a 2nd DSS2 device soon and here on Amazon.UK,to which I will have linked to my laptop with a 3.5mm jack to optical audio adapter and I have a new optical cable in my laptop bag so by connecting the converted optical cable to the DSS2 processor I will have access to much better audio quality on my laptop and I recently bought a 3.5mm 2 way splitter cable so a second person can connect to it.This is a must have devicefor any gamer, movie fan, everyday internet use and online streaming and most importantly, listening to your music. The music is clean and perfect since the audio has been filtered and free from distortion and the fiber optic wires conducts way more efficiently than traditional copper wires do and this is a must have device in any household. And lastly this DSS2 device enables you to convert a ordinary stereo headset into a 5.1 headset and there are way more uses to this device like connecting a PC or a CD/MP3 player or if you like to be old school you can have a vinyl record player playing through the aux input so you can listen to your music and vinyls while playing your favorite games. So with this information it bypasses that restriction placed by SONY with the PS3 console(like originally you have your music playing on the PS3 in the music tab on the XMB and when launching a game then after on the PS3 the music stops playing) so you can still have the same benefits as a XBOX360 user. But I have set up my PS3,XBOX ONE,XBOX360 and my PC with my current device and it is just the best small compact device that has it's many uses.So what you plan to do with this device is all up to you.

As a casual gamer, the thought of buying a dedicated sound processor seemed a bit overkill for the amount of games that I play, but I thought I'd give it a go and see what all the hype was. As the website suggests, this device is usable with any stereo headset. As I don't own a pair of TurtleBeach headsets, I used a pair of Beats by Dre Studio headsets instead. Setting up was very easy, everything was included and after a few minutes I was ready. It did take an hour or two to adjust fully to it, but after that, WOW! You honestly don't realise what you miss out on in games or movies. Tested it on Bioshock and was amazed that I could hear talking, breathing and footsteps coming from around me and behind me.To the point where I would spin round to find a splicer stalking me or the rumble of an automated turret emerging from somewhere obscure. In COD Black Ops, I could hear people's footsteps and guns a good few seconds before I was able to see them. Pinpointing enemies is easy with this device, I could literally hear other people around corners! Its already helping my KD! It's also easy to set up for movies and music and they sound great too, but I think the device sparkles truly when in game! The customisable angles and equaliser, help you find your favourite set up, although there is no way to tell which setting you're on. That is my only gripe with this device. The extra 2 inputs for mp3 players/IPods is also a nice touch for when you just want to run riot casually but wanna listen to your music at the same time! If you're looking for an extra edge in gameplay, and if you want to experience another dimension of gaming, this product is for you! Delivery was fast, great seller! Highly recommend this device, not only for gaming but for movies and music.

Bought this for use with my PS4 and HyperX Cloud Alphas, since they didn't come with a surround sound processor like the Cloud II. It's actually more versatile than the Cloud II USB adapter as it works off TOSLINK input, and also supports surround sound angle adjustment and equalizer functionality (though to be fair, I just picked a setting and left it at that). It also has two 3.5mm jack inputs. The difference between them is that "analog in" is processed by the DSS2, whereas "aux in" is a straight passthrough. Naturally you don't get the same results using the analog in as you do with TOSLINK, but I still use it for my Switch and other systems that don't output Dolby. One gripe I have with thedevice is that the volume knob is digital and doesn't give you the amount of finesse you'd expect. You can't even fully mute the audio, so hopefully your headset has in-line volume controls. For that I'll dock it one star as it is quite annoying, but other than I'm liking it a lot and highly recommend you get one while you still can.Tip for use with mic on PS4: Buy a cheap small USB sound adapter and plug that into the DSS2. Now you've effectively added microphone support to it. Then plug the 3.5mm male-to-male cable from the USB adapter into the DSS2's aux in.Now go into the PS4's settings and select USB as the PS4's output device. Chat audio will now be coming through USB, which is then piped into the DSS2, and finally to your headphones. Game audio will still output through TOSLINK, but this way chat audio won't be affected by the equalizer, surround sound and volume controls of the DSS2 (see picture for an example, though you probably want a smaller USB adapter).

I bought this processor along with a PX22 headset to replace my PX21 that I've been using for the last few years. I've tried the PX22 without the DSS2 and the processor certainly does make a difference, I'm just a little disappointed with how much difference, really. Granted, that is my own fault for perhaps having too high expectations but I thought that for the price I paid the difference would be more profound. In other words, I'm not convinced the product is worth the investment. However, ignoring the question of value, it's a useful device that has enhanced my gaming experience. The surround sound works well and is definitely a marked improvement over stereo. The equaliser presets are diverse, though I'm not convinced the presets are a better option than having a dial for each of the bass, middle and treble to allow the user to customise their experience fully. I haven't tried altering the surround sound angles too much, and I don't expect I will make much use of the feature, but it's not an unwelcome inclusion. I could say the same about the analog input. Another thing of note is that the cables that come with the processor make the reach of the PX22 shorter than with the cables packaged with the headset. As such, my headset just about reaches where I need it to now and it leaves the processor just a little beyond my reach from a seated position. It's a small gripe but you get used to having things like volume controls at hand.Overall, I'm not entirely content with having bought this product but I will make great use of it now that I have it. Whether or not it's worth the asking price is up to you and your financial situation.

I've always played my consoles with a surround sound system which stopped when I got a new TV and wasn't allowed to have it in my game room where my set up is.Naturally, I wanted to play my Xbox 360 on the new LED TV but as we all know, the sound from these thin sets is not the best and my Fiancee doesn't want surround sound speakers in the living room. I bought a Turtle Beach X12 head set, the first I've had for gaming and I was impressed by how good they sounded as they were but had a card insert advertising one of these DSS2 and couldn't really inagine it would make much difference to the sound of my headset but it played on my mind for a few weeks.I searched online for the cheapest price I could find and found Zavvi had it for £55 and bought it, I'm so pleased I did.It really does sound like 5.1 surround sound when your playing your games, very smooth 360 degree rotation of sound and supurb sound with my headset, I cant see myself playing games any other way from now on.It works with an optical cable from the console directly into the DSS2 and then you plug your headset in to the DSS2 and to me, this seems pretty future proof as Im sure the future gen consoles will have an optical out.I recommend this product from my enhanced experience

Fantastic device it will turn any stereo headset into an amazing surround sound headset!Works with PS4 very well. I use standard stereo Apple Headphones (2016 model) with the DSS2 and it sounds amazing I can pinpoint every sound from anywhere. The DSS2 brings immersion and accuracy. It's crystal clear with good bass (not too muddy) and great dolby sound. All you need is any very good stereo headset that you like and that is comfortable then the DSS2. = perfect headsetI even tried a cheap rubbish stereo headset with the DSS2 and it turned it into a really good sounding headset!I have used other gaming 5.1 /7.1 headsets in the past and they are decent but an amazing stereo headset with the DSS2 is MUCH better. Also the DSS2 has an AUX port so you can plug any device or pc into it to listen to other devices as youre on the ps4.Its powered by USB too, easy setup and small. Includes optical cable in the box.The EQ and angle setting can be adjusted to whatever you want. The volume can be adjusted and the surround sound can be turned off and the DSS2 will drive your headphones to its full potential in stereo mode.Amazing device worth every penny.

I bought this in a lightning deal for half price (£26) in order to get 5.1 surround sound from my PlayStation (which had a digital optical output) to my 5.1 home theatre system which only had support for analog input.I connected the PlayStation to the DSS2 via an optical cable, then connected my HTS to the DSS2 using the aux/phono leads. The DSS2 was powered by plugging in the supplied usb cable in to a spare Ubs slot on my tv.After updating the PlayStation audio settings to output audio via optical out and turning on this little bit of genius, I was getting out full 5.1 sound from my HTS! Very impressed with the audio quality and was Saved me from having to buy another hts system with optical in.I have also had a little play with it by connecting up my sky hd box instead of the ps.Again works great but I have found it cuts out sometimes and need to be turned on and off when you are forwarding or rewinding recorded shows.

The reason I bought this was that both my digital audio jacks snapped due to repeated tension of the headphone cable and the CIT Vantage X11 ATX Casing had poorly designed digital 3.5mm slot supports underneath the surface which are no longer usable. I certainly didn't want to go back to analog sound where I could plug in my headphones back into a speaker slot at the back of the tower and this wouls also mean less cable length to move my head around with my headphones on.I bought this Dolby Processor and it does exactly what I wanted it to do. I used the digital optical (TOSLink) connection method which was provided and I am enjoying the digital sound output and there is no longer any cablelength shortage as the Dolby extends the cable length meaning I can move around more freely while wearing my headphones unlike before.I'm happy to have bought this and the price is reasonable.

Having tried all sorts of virtual surround on stereo headphones, DTS, Dolby Atmos and THX as well as those bundled in sound card drivers, I can say that this little box is outstanding for what it does. I use it on my PC which can't output Dolby Digital as the onboard sound doesn't have it in drivers, but hooked up to the SPDIF on the board and setting this thing to surround mode job done.It delivers very accurate surround sound in my AKGK52's, good amounts of bass and zero distortion, to boot this box has 7 or 8 surround modes to tune your positional audio too and 7or 8 EQ modes to add more bass or clean up mids etc. For a plug and play got to box I'm really impressed, yes technology moves on and this is a few years old now but it does what it does well and for £20 I can't fault it.

I was more sceptical than I had ever been when purchasing this DSS2, expecting the surround effect to be either non-existent or very bad and wow, was I wrong to be.The DSS2 not only provides me with some very good sounding surround in my ears, that good it's allowing me to detect where players are in call of duty behind walls with pin-point accuracy, but it seems to have improved the sound overall having an optical input. not only this but the Bass Boost has made everything cinematic too, and just to top it all off, it works with pretty much everything that has an optical input, I use it with my PC and Blu Ray Player, I watched Gravity last night with some very immersive sound, 10/10, top marks,I rarely use my ears without them being tethered to this any more.

I used this item for years with my 360, bought an Xbox one, no chat, Xbox changed the controller output grr. Gave the unit away and bought the £200 wireless headset. Two years later they are broken and in the bin. I purchased this item for. Under £30 and the sound is fantastic. I am using this with my Xbox one with a chat adapter cable and I’m pleased to say it is everything I remembered. Bass punch, clear trebble, and the all immersive surround sound. Works with all items that have an optical out. The original one that I gave away is also still working great so daily use over many years and it still works as it did and all the buttons switches etc are still perfect. In short if you own headphones but one,at this price it’s a steal. (Original one cost £70)

I've used turtle beach for ages and found they are brilliant! you can hear everything on them, well thats what i thought until i used this, and WOW!!!! this is so clear and crisp, it controls the sound like I've never known! I use it with my current X12's and it like bread and butter ;)Oh, also, with the XBOX which most turtle beach headset users will know, if you have the AV cable and HDMI cable both connected to the XBOX for the turtle beach headset set up and you change your TV's input between XBOX (HDMI) and TV (antenna), or any other input you have e.g. DVD player, Blu-ray player. The XBOX will ANNOYINGLY automatically restart. THE SOLVES THAT PROBLEM! :D WOOP WOOP! bye bye AV cable, hello optical cable!
