I was looking forward to making this little kit. Although I am a strictly amateur hobbyist I have made a few 1/700 models before, almost all Tamiya, and maybe a few Airfix kits in a similar scale years ago. I was thinking this kit is going to be a big improvement on those kits which all date from about the 1970’s (I think). Not so. The problems with this kit are quite basic e.g. some of the parts don’t fit that well and the instructions aren’t that clear in places. I would have thought that these kind of things would have been solved or minimised long ago. Neither the fit of parts nor the instructions are up to the standards of the old Tamiya kits but are as good as or better than the Airfix ones,as I recall.Where this kit does do well is in the details that some of the parts carry, small guns and boats are good, and this is supplemented by the little bit of photoetch that is included. Though the choice of photoetch is a bit odd e.g. some of it just overlays parts of the superstructure which could have had the details moulded on. Still, good on some of the details. Can be built into a nice little model and I have attached a few pictures of my version which isn’t quite finished but is almost there.I didn't include any aftermarket parts (wood decks, metal gun barrels, etc.) which might improve it a bit but would add to the overall build time. What I did add was some basic rigging from fly fishing thread which worked ok on small areas but not on the larger runs. It looked ok when I put it on but shortly afterwards it all went out of shape. I am considering whether to remove it and replace it with brass wire.It took me about 25 hours over three weeks to build this kit and the basic sequence is as follows:1. Assemble the hull and main substructures. Glues used, Humbrol liquid poly, Tamiya extra thin cement, Revell Contacta professional, superglue.2. Put these assemblies together and spray with Halfords spray primer from the can.3. Once dried use an airbrush to give the whole thing a coat of light grey.4. Paint the deck with Vallejo paint using a brush, hand mixed paint for natural variation in colour.5. Once dried give the deck a very thin black oil wash, mixed with white spirit, and the deck a wash of dark brown oil paint similarly thinned. Then wipe this off as necessary or to it looks like you like it, use a cotton bud or some other make up remover tool, you can dip this in thinner if necessary.6. Add the small parts such as boats and guns which have been painted separately.7. Add the rigging.8. Spray the whole thing with a coat of Humbrol matt enamel varnish from a can.9. (Still to do maybe) basing, fixing painting mistakes, anchors and anchor chains (a HD picture is a scary thing up close) and maybe doing the rigging again, the name plate.I enjoyed making it, for the most part. The kit itself is ok but not as good as I was expecting. Maybe I expected too much?

One of the excellent Trumpeter 1:700 series of models of the five Queen Elizabeth class battleships portrayed at various stages of their illustrious 30 years' service with the Royal Navy. Highly detailed kit, which could prove a challenge, at this scale; may be made up as a waterline model, which I much prefer for realism, or in full-hull form; very good value-for-money, considering all the contents, and the superb box-art.As far as I know, this is the only readily available model kit version of a ship which was part of the Grand Fleet at Jutland, over the evening of 31st May and the early hours of 1st June, 1916. Neither her sister, Queen Elizabeth, nor the original Dreadnought of 1906,were part of the fleet on that fateful night, although Trumpeter models of both at the time, are produced.

Model arrived well packed and on time. Parts just a bit fiddly, but that's a challenge with this scale. Excellent
