Having played previous Pro Cycling Manager games I was always going to buy the latest installment. This year's edition improved on past years components and added a fair amount of new features. The first thing I noticed was the new home screen at the beginning, not a huge difference but it looks nice and makes it easy to navigate and find game modes as such. Multiplayer (Armdada) has been improved as well; A track mode has been added and you can now play stage races with your own teams which was missing from last year's game. The career mode as well has been altered. This year if you are to build a custom team you have a virtually unlimited budget but your team's level (UCI World Tour,Pro Continental or Continental) is determined by how much you spend. You are also allowed unlimited reports on youth riders but this comes at a financial cost. When you are into the career you will notice that there has been a change in how you receive money in the game. Usually you earn money from winning races in prize money however this year you get money from nailing targets your sponsors give you. This can be frustrating as they may give you tasks which are unrealistic. An example I have is that I had a continental team and was asked to win Omloop Het Niewsblad. Not only did I have no strong classics riders, was facing up against Cancellara and Boonen, but I couldn't even get an entry into the event through a wild card! Even though you can ask to scale down these asignments to aim to achieve a top 10 ranking or so but the amount of money you gain is heavily cut.In the actual races there has been a graphical overhaul, textures are a lot less pixely and the shirt quality of the riders has been improved (you can make out the writing and sponsors easily). The in-game mechanics have also changed, breakaways are now more likely to stay away which makes the game more challenging and in some cases more realistic. It is still feasible to chase back an escape although it will require more man power and help from the rest of the peleton. In my opinion though the best changes have been those to the animations and accelerations of the riders. In previous years riders would look the same even if they were going at 10kmph to 60kmph. The new animations have made the game seem more realistic as you can see when other riders are struggling or putting in a higher effort. Also, the acceleration stat now does mean acceleration and will determine how quickly your sprinter or climber attacks.PROS- Strong animations- Graphical Overhaul- Armada improved- In game mechanics improvedCONS- Career mode can be frustrating- Still bugs in placesI must also add that this game is not really for non cycling fans who are are unaware of what lies beyond and before the Tour de France!EDIT: Forgot to mention that to improve the game hugely I recommend you spend some time to download the PCM Daily databases as they give real names and jerseys to some of the unlicensed riders/teams.

This was my first bicycle racing game and it was a very positive experience.I have only played superbike, motorbike and car racing games before, as well as some snowboarding games. However I have always been curious about these Tour de France games, as I'm naturally drawn to any form of racing.I was really impressed with just how lengthy the stages were, to the point where I feel spoiled now.It is luxurious to get this much track to race on, this much content. Some of the stages take over 45 minutes to complete, I think most are between 15-45 minutes.Keep in mind that these are not circular tracks around some stadium, these are single stretches of road. And there are 21 stages to complete.Another thing that struck me was how authentic and nice the environments look.My ignorance of Tour de France led me to think it would all look the same, but it truly doesn't.The tracks are placed all over France so you get to see some highly spectacular sceneries and views.I even felt a bit envious of the people who actually get to do this thing for real.Last but not least, this is a highly tactical and strategic game. You need to manage your gear, which affects speed and stamina recovery, as well as the choice of food to bring with you.Different foods affects stamina recovery in different ways. These are just some of the choices you need to make. You are also part of a team and therefore teamwork is another big factor in the game, there's a number of teamwork functions. You also learn different tactics on how to handle the track and your opponents - facing steep climbs, sprints etc. This game is not as simple as it looks. The best comparison I have for this game, no disrespect intended, is Euro Truck Simulator.Like that game Tour de France is very relaxing yet very tense at the same time.It is relaxing because the sound and visuals are very atmospheric and peaceful, and because the game-pace is not that fast.It is tense because you constantly have vital things to keep in mind and manage, otherwise it can go badly quickly. If you like racing/driving/sim/sports games you should give this a chance. You can be a noob like myself because the game will explain all you need to know in the tutorial. The rest you learn through trial and error, like in any game.

Loved this game, it does a great job of recreating what makes the TdF exciting. The flat stages are a little dull, as in the real thing, but the mountain stages require a combination of tactics, teamwork and knowledge of cycling. If you don't follow cycling you'll probably be bored, but for fans there is enough to keep you occupied to justify the price.

Brilliant for all the tour lovers out there. Crashing has been included which is a great feature although I think punctures and mechanical failures need to be added to make the game more realistic.
