I'm reviewing the Harry Potter Top Trumps Match Cube Game. Here are my thoughts:^^ As a Harry Potter fan I was really looking forward to trying this out. Before I opened it up, from the online pictures, I didn't quite get how it related to Top Trumps. Well, it does, but only by brand name. There are cards in the game, but they're not at all like the Top Trumps cards I remember them for.^^ Anyway, this adventure is a little bit like the game 'Connect Four', only we have to match up 5 wizards, witches or goblins (any character) of Harry Potter film fame. The board stands up in between each player and has lots of cube in it, each of the 6 sides of each cube has a Harry Potter themed character on it.^^ How do you play? You try to line up 5 of the same characters from your side in a row, by taking it in turns to push out a cube that's in the way of your win. Your opponent does the same. So when you think you've nearly won, unbeknown to your opponent, out comes one you want. This continues until someone says they've won, and have 5 characters the same in a row. But the game doesn't stop there. This is when the cards come into play.^^ At then end there is a tiny pack of cards to use, once someone has lined up their five creatures and declared themselves the winner, a Top Trumps card is then drawn to reveal if their opponent an take the match and win the game, stealing the victory away right at the very last moment. In a way I feel this last bit of the game is unnecessary. But I guess it adds another slant of fun to the game, especially for younger kids who'll have the chance to win, even though it didn't look that way at first.^^ Recommended age: 4+ and no batteries required. Always a bonus!Overall: It's one of those games which is a bit of a laugh, and easy to keep playing as it does not take up too much thinking power, and it's relatively quick to play. I like it!

Despite the lure of online games, I am pleased to say that there is still a place for board games of all kinds. Aimed at ages 4+ this is both fast, and easy, to play and it looks bright and colourful. This game involves matching five Harry Potter character cubes in a row – either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. This is for two players and is a fairly easy and fast moving game.It is a sort of Connect 4 game, but there is a twist to the game at the end involving the cards you are dealt, which makes it a little more interesting for older children (if you are playing with very young children, you could just forget this part of the game to make it easier). The idea is that you push through the cubes until one player gets a row of characters. Just make sure that when you set up the game, you do not have two characters together in any row. Before you start playing, each child gets two cards. Only once a player gets a row of characters, the other player (losing player) turns over their cards. If one of their two cards matches the line of characters the other player has made then they can win the game. Obviously, little children may not cope that well with the idea of thinking they have won and then losing, but it is a fun twist for older children. The pieces are well made and the game sturdy. Overall, a lot of fun and it is a quick game to play, so it will appeal to younger players who find longer board games complicated.

This is a lovely little game. I have been playing it with my 10 year old daughter and we have had a lot of fun. Takes a few minutes to setup, making sure the cubes are nice and randomly mixed. Each cube has 6 pictures of Harry Potter characters on. Play starts by the youngest player pushing the top left cube to the other player’s side. Player 2 then slots it in their side to try and get 5 matching pictures in a row, much like connect 4, which pushes a cube to player 1’s side and so on. It’s very simple but satisfying and the games are quite quick, less than 10 minutes. Each player also has 2 random cards which, once a player has matched 5 pictures, gives their opponent a chance to steal the win if they happen to have the same character on their card.We love games that pack away nicely and neatly and this is all fold away into itself making it good for travel. It’s quite large so not for your handbag but we may well take it on holidays. It’s a bit stiff to open but this may loosen up and I do want to be secure as if you lose a piece it’s unplayable really. I would have liked the characters to be a bit more distinctive with brighter backgrounds or something as it can be a bit hard to tell them apart at a glance but my daughter thinks they’re fine so maybe that’s just my old eyes.

This is almost a cross between Battleships, Connect 4 and Guess Who....all with a Harry Potter theme! basically 2 players compete against one another; each takes it in turns to push a 6-sided cube (with a different character on each side) out of the 5 x 5 grid - once your opponent knocks out a block, you put it back in with your choice of character facing you as you aim to make a row of 5 of the same character (either horizontal, vertical or diagonal). The winner is the first to declare a row of 5. There is an added twist at the end of the game that's a little weird - basically if your opponent has the character you've got in a row of 5 on one of their 2 cards that are handed out pre-game,they snatch the win. This final twist seems a little too wacky and can simply be ignored if you prefer to keep things simple. A Harry Potter fan should love this - it isn't what I was expecting, however, given the Top Trumps branding that initially suggested something different to me.

This game fulfills a lot in what you'd want from a game. It's game play is relatively quick and simple to learn and you can adapt it depending on the ages of the children playing: i.e. not using the cards if you've got young children. It can be played relatively quickly and there is also an opportunity for it to be used to teach strategy. It's got characters that kids are familiar with being themed around characters in Harry Potter. It's pretty robust and comes in a carry case that acts as the playing field and storage for the game, so is fairly self contained and should mean that over the years you won't lose any pieces. It's also good fun to play, having played it with both our pre-schooler and our grandson who's currently working his way through the Harry Potter novels after having watched the films. All in all not a lot to dislike about this game.

Bought this for my son for his 9th birthday. Great game, he loves it and we enjoy playing it with him. Similar to connect 4 in that you have to connect a row 5 characters the same but you’re on different sides of the ‘board’ and can’t see what the other player has/is doing. You take it in turns to pop a cube out by putting one in on your side to try and make a line. That can either help or hinder your opposition! They then do the same on their side. When you think you’ve won, the loser can steal the game if they have the card (each player has 2 cards given at the start of the game) that matches the winners line. Probably sounds a bit complicated on here but it’s really easy, our 5 yr old plays too.We love it.

We' re really enjoying playing this Harry Potter themed Connect '5' game. If you want a quick to set up game with simple rules and one which can be played with a wide variety of age groups then this is ideal. Each game doesn't last very long but we tend to play best of 3 and mini tournaments. We've also played this with friends who aren't fluent English speakers and it's been a great success as it's a visual game. One star off for the silly inclusion of cards which allow one player to snatch victory from the other when they haven't succeeded in matching 5 characters - this idea got the thumbs down from all players! We've just omitted the cards and the winner wins!

OMG! I love this game! I don't know why I thought it was going to be so complicated to set up and play, but it's really not.The game looks amazing, however, my nephew is old enough to play the game, but is still too young to watch the Harry Potter films. I'm not too sure if this game would appeal to the older children that Harry Potter is aimed at.I, as an adult, love both the films and this game. I think it's a lovely addition to the Harry Potter merchandise that is available and I think it is a great price. The game itself feels well made. It's not brittle or flimsy and feels sturdy. And it packs away neatly and securely.

A modern take on the classic Connect 4 game. Match 5 of your favourite Harry Potter characters in a row. Players take it in turns to push cubes to get a vertical, horizontal or diagonal line of 5. The addition of a Top Trump could end the game - if your opponent matches their Top Trumps card with your winning Harry Potter character line, they win the game! The game is easy to play and most games are quick. The game is well made and comes in its own carry case. It's suitable for children over the age of 4 and would be a great gift for the Harry Potter fan!

Initially tested with my 8 year old nephew - and great fun was had by all - he didn't quite appreciate the final twist which can flip the results of the game but found it hilarious when I was the unfortunate victim.Even more fun was had when 2 twenty somethings had a go - they played for ages and laughed with evil delight if and when the flip worked for them.A must for Harry Potter fans who like a themed game to entertain them - also great for use as a travel game as folds up containing all the components.Recommended product.

Oh boy!! We had so much fun playing this game.. you push the cubes in to make a row of the character you want. Five make a row. However as you take turns the other person messes your neat rows up!!! Finally one of you make a row of five and shouts game ( say a row of Luna).. before the game starts you are delt two cards face down.. these are turned over once game is shouted.. If the player who has not got a row of five, has the character you played (Luna) then they steal the game! And your victory is lost!!!! Addictive!!

Really love this game - it's lots of fun and does take time .Well made and nice idea you match the cubes and first to 5 wins along with the other person able to maybe steal the win.Love the variety of cards and cubes.Really fun to have harry Potter things!Marked it down on how hard it is to open the travel case - I have to get someone else to do it - really way to difficult- it has a space to pull but need a lot of force on your nails.

Fairly simple game that's good to play with the added bonus of being based around Harry Potter!Comes in a themed carry case that houses the cubes and cards - the cards can easily fall out but works well over all. Played with kids between 7-9 and they had good fun with it. 3 year old decided it was better to keep flicking out the cubes but enjoyed it just as much!Good value for a game that will keep people occupied time and again

I was a little mislead by the Top Trumps connection. What this really is, is connect 4 - but in connect 5 variant - with Harry Potter characters and more than on colour. It's kind of confusing as such, but once you get the hang of it it's ok.I have to admit I was not bowled over, perhaps for Harry Potter superfans, this is a good one, but not for us. As such I can only give this 4 stars

Brilliant fun, love that it is all stored in the case, makes it easy to transport. Very sturdy toy, good quality. Very straight forward game, simple rules but that doesn't mean it is boring. Far from it, great fun that you can be the 1 with 5 in a row but then your opponent can steal your points at the last minute. The best bit is that it's Harry Potter themed too! Would highly recommend.
