He muscles must have atrophied during her extended stay in Egypt, because when you start off she's really pretty weak and is annoyingly slow at running. You need to do certain things (usually move large objects, or shimmy on a cable) to gain strength. She's a little harder to control than she has been in previous outings, expecially on stairs for instance as if you stop and try and turn her around she jogs up or down a few steps usually. The stealth mode is BRILLIANT, I love sneaking with her back pressed against the wall, peak around the corner and then creeping up behind someone and wrestling them to the ground before they even know youre there. She's got a cople of cool new moves (not just the hand to hand combat)I love the flip down a ladder she does if you crawl up to it instead of walking.Graphics - If you take the FMV sequences from previous games and improve them - that's th game play! The screen shots ARE in game shots, not the FMV sequences. She's benefited massively from the vast increase in poly count (from 200 to 2,000 or somethinhg!) and her hair (amongst other other things) jiggles as she moves - which keeps us simple minded blokes happy. She just looks more natural - well as natural as Lara ever looks. New animations added, not moves as such, like when firing and moving backwards at the same time she has a sort of hopping type movement.Probably best of all is the fact that ladders, etc are now actually to scale! (though her back pack obviously still has magical tardis like powers).Conversations that you actually make choices in have been added and some of them (though so far not many) will effect the route and the way the story evolves. They are quite limited, but diffinitly a welcome improvement. The sound is amazing :) I'm running it on a 5.1 surround sound with EAX capabilities - it's so rich :) large rooms echo, theres always a police car to somewhere near to keep the tension up (though you dont see them that often). And the music is of film quality - I sometimes leave it on the opening screen just to listen to the new orchestral arrangement. There are quite a few loading pauses as each area is split up into smaller areas and it can be a little annoying when running from one street to another and theres two loading times in between. There are a couple of glitches but nothing amazingly bad - an air vent that I crawled through was clipping sliglty so you got flickers of the outside world, that kind of thing and I did have an unexpected crash when I was reassigning controls whilst in game. Certainly not enough to put me off playing. It fairly demanding on your system, though the specs say it only needs a 500Mhz CPU Im sure that would be really slow and jerky. You NEED a graphics card the FULLY suports directX 9 and the new texture mapping. This is becoming more and more standard games like Spider-man and the Thing, etc also need it. I bought a 128Mb Geforce 4 back in Novemeber, purely because TR: OAD was coming out and I have to say it was well worth the investment. The story (so far) is excellent, more or less along the lines of the average TR, but it's definitly darker and for the first time you feel involved in it rather than just observing it.I've played it every chance I've got (though sadly not as much as I would like) since getting it 5 days ago and I havent once been bored. In fact, I'm off right now to contiue the adventure. If you like the TR series, you will LOVE this release, if you don't like the series this could well be the one to win you over.**end of completely addicted obsessive fan rant**

There were two games that I was eagerly anticipating for release this year, these being 'Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb', and 'Tomb Raider - The Angel of Darkness'. Both are similar in style, and I though it would be interesting to see how they fared against each other in the sales market. As we know, Indy was the original 'Tomb Raider', so the question is 'How will Lara go about recapturing her crown?'Both games in my opinion are excellent, but as this review is supposed to be about Lara's new game, I'd better concentrate on her. I'll not give any of the plot away. I'll let you discover that for yourself! First off, AOD doesn't require a computer with an immense amount of power at its disposal.Naturally the more powerful your machine, the better the game will run, but it will run on a 500 mhz pc with little difficulty. It's good to report that although the game is graphically superb, you won't need to shell out for a brand new system in order to enjoy it. As I say, the graphics are excellent, as you'd expect. This time round, the areas Lara explores are much more detailed, as indeed is Lara herself, with a much greater polygon count making her more realistic, as indeed are her adversaries, who are more intelligent too. Hand to hand combat also comes into play, which is a great addition. The ability to sneak up behind an enemie and choke them, without being seen, adds a great deal of stealth to the game, as opposed to the 'going in all guns blazing approach'.There is another playable character in AOD; Kurtis Trent, and his inclusion is very welcome. It is a good idea, that Eidos have implemented into the game very well, and gives the game a perspective from another character's point of view. Now then, onto probably one of the biggest issues for many people - the controls. Let me point out here that Lara's latest adventure does not control in the same way as her previous games. The control system is now much advanced, and may take some people a little while to become accustomed to. The game plays at a slightly slower pace BUT (and I must emphasise this hence the capitals) they are very responsive. Imagine the controls in Resident evil, if you will, and you'll be pretty close to what is on offer here. To elaborate on that a bit more, moving the controller left or right doesn't immediately move Lara in that direction. This will rotate her character round and round. When you are in the direction you wish to go, pressing forward will make her move in that particular direction. I hope I've explained that ok. Anyway, give it a try yourself, and you'll see what I mean. The game comes on 2 cds, and is fairly lengthy too, giving good value for money. In summary, the many delays the game has experienced have been well worth it. For anybody who has their doubts on this last point, don't worry. I'm sure many patches will be available in the near future, so you can tweak the game to your liking. As for me, I'm very happy with Lara's latest adventure, and wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to anyone. Congratulations Eidos, on creating the 'definitive' Lara Croft experience!

When I first heard that there was going to be ANOTHER Tomb Raider game, I didn't have particularly high hopes - the series seemed to be showing it's age and a certain degree of storyline desperation with 'Chronicles'. However, I decided to buy The Angel of Darkness (TAoD) to see what it was truly like. I am glad I did. After 1 through 5 being very similar in terms of location, moves and combat, TAoD feels like a breath of fresh air. Even after playing the game for a mere two days, it is difficult to know where to begin. The level design is more entertaining than in the previous games, you can interact with people as you choose, picking up useful and not-so-useful information from each. The infinite-ammo guns that detracted from the realism have gone. Now you have to be careful how you use your weapons instead of running around with the trigger permenantly pressed! Many players I'm sure will have noticed that in previous generations, Lara's <ahem> "assets" seem to be made of stone, they didn't move a millimeter! Now however, realism has asserted itself (if you look carefully!). Another realism element is lara's strength. In certain parts of the game, some tasks need to be performed first in order to increase Lara's strength so she can perform other tasks. As with previous TR games, the graphics in TAoD are a joy to behold (I'm saying this having so far only played it on my Laptop, I am expecting even greater things on my desktop PC when I return from my holiday). Finally to performance. So far I have only played the game on a Laptop with a PIII 1.2Ghz processor, 256Mb Ram and an Nvidia GeForce2Go (32Mb). This is above the minimum requirements but below the recommended and the game plays perfectly smoothly with no slow-down whatsoever. In conclusion, I can honestly say that this is one of the best games I've played in a long time and certainly the best Tomb Raider game yet made. Well worth buying!

Like every one else I played all the tomb raiders games in the series. I don’t know why it’s got such bad reviews. Ok the controls are not that responsive as they could of been but you soon adapt. For the type of new environment its set in I think it works better. The graphics are amazing though my system spec is Amd Anthon 2000+ 1GB DDR memory GeForce 4 ti4600.the graphics were bit slow at first with bad frame rate and lag etc, but once u play around with the settings out side the game it works perfectly, I think this where lot of people lost it and starting writing the game off. Because the graphic settings out side the game are bit complicated could have been programmed better. At times when playing around with the settings it can make it the same as before (bit laggy) or when you next run the game no graphics come up at all.Once I played around with these settings for a while I got them just perfect with it all on high graphics with great frame rate. No lag at all!! I am about half way through the game so far and really enjoying it. It has the same controls and moves from the last tomb raider games too.I think if you’ve enjoyed the others its worth while to buy. I also not installed any of the patches as of yet. I have given it 4 stars the story good and lot more interactive with other characters and the environment than the old tomb raiders. Its also lot more realistic. My favourite level so far is the museum. Also the lighting and graphics I thought looked impressive. Its crashed on loading buts it very very rare well for me it is happened about once or twice. Also Lara looks lot more realistic part from the large breasts lol.final note play round with the settings try stay calm and enjoy the game.

Radical new departure? Nope. For every tiny element of newness there is a ton of the old familiar stuff. So yes you get a "stealth mode" where Lara looks like shes doing an impression of Tommy Cooper and sometimes have to talk to characters chossing between two (count 'em) response options but mostly its jumping from crumbling platforms, running before the gate closes, tugging at handles to spin mysterious ancient runes and all the old stuff you have known and perhaps loved from the very first game..So what have Eidos been doing all this time? - this must be one of the most delayed games ever. Making the graphics better mostly - Lara is considerably more detailed on even my mid range GeForce 2 machine and mocking aside the new Stealth moves are pretty nifty.Maybe - to be generous - the plot is a little richer than usual with some sort of coherent backstory and perhaps this will all unfold over multiple games in a coherent way. Dunno.But. This is not really a critical review - more of the same with better graphics and improved plot is not nothing, and once again i find myself spending hours absorbed in a way than only that unique mixture of puzzles and firepower provided by Lara Croft games seem to get right.I wish Eidos hadn't oversold this - i suspect there will be a backlash against its more excessive claims. Its a new Lara Croft game - it looks great, thats enough i think.

tomb raider6 aod..great game..good plot/storyline..what more can i add to what has been written many times before about this and the others in the series...i must comment or warn the few gamers who havnt yet played this final Core game before Crystal Dynamics were chosen to replace them by Eidos...is that its been criticised as a rushed and unfinished in details...well ive played both the ps2 and pc versions...my opinion is unless youre a glutton for punishment..avoid the ps2 version unless you really enjoy analogue steering-i dont..its ok for some games like racing but not for this..Lara is way beyond uncontrollable for me with analogue sticks...its not customisable although the manual stateswrongly it is..it isnt...the pc version however can be mapped..and we can configure the controls similar to the first 5 games..she also runs slower than the psx games-i mean she doesnt sprint or really run fast..the game runs fine though..i wont pick more faults-all in all they did a pretty good job-i give it 4 out of 5

Having read the reviews on this game, I was not too sure whether or not to get it.However, I was immediately glad I did when it arrived. Although the controls take a minute or two to get used to, and going back and playing Chronicles afterwards certainly highlighted the changes, I think it's a change which will soon become accepted by TR players, and is one that is definitely not worth writing the game off because of.The graphics are very nice indeed, as are the sounds and the landscapes. Having patched the game to the latest version, I have not noticed any problems either. The plot is very intriguing and highly addictive, and now I'm waiting anxiously on the release of the next TR series, which apparently continues from where this one ends, unravelling the mystery even further!Definitely a superb game to buy! Don't hesitate!

Awesome graphics, great gameplay.I cant believe the last review. Its not hard to change the controls to a style that suits yourself. I used keyboard and mouse since most games on pc use this method. To turn 360 deg simply move the mouse left slightly and she will turn slowely. Move the mouse quicker and she turns quickly.I am sure you won't be disappointed with buying this game. I was amazed by the graphics when I entered the Serpent Rouge night club in the game. All the lighting effects with the stage lighting and the lazer beams I thought was amazing. It has to be the best looking game yet and the gameplay is great. I have been hooked on this game now for one week and cant stop once playing.Trust me and buy this game.

I Don't Know why everybody thinks this game is rubbish, its the best Tomb Raider Yet. If you have enjoyed Tomb Raider 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 then you will love this one. The picture has really been improved and Lara looks like a real person instead of a stick women, also the other people and surroundings are much better as core don't use BLOCK Textures anymore. The Story is also great and the new feature which allows you to talk to other people in the surrounding is really great. This is a must have game and is worth the money. All I can Say is GET IT Its the Coolest Tomb Raider yetPlease not that i am not David Nichoson I am his Step Son George Day

The first tomb raider game I ever played, and I love it to death as a result. The earlier ones just look blocky and frustrating by comparison. The graphics are gorgeous, the story is really good, and controls are pretty easy. It's not entirely perfect. There seems to be a bug at the end of the first level, there's a headless zombie behind the bar, and kurtis trent is having an epileptic fit when you first meet him. And I've never managed to finish it because I can't get past that wretched ghost, who slows it all down. Still love it though

This was my first purchase for my new PC at home and had me addicted for several weeks. As a relatively novice gamer, it was very good with excellent graphics. I was able to pick up the controls quickly although I acknowledge some of the frustrations in other reviews. The game was difficult in places but still made you want to complete the level. The glitches annoyed me a bit but this was the only thing that detracted from an otherwise excellent game.

Would everyone just shut up, this game is class the graphics r great, new weapons, gameplay is much better and yeah the controls r hard at first but u get use 2 dem and in all the other reviews they say dat it's slow.... the only reason it's slow is because you've got a crap computer!!!BUY DIS GAME!!!

Am I the only player who enjoyed this much under-rated game? The opening scenes in Paris were so realistic I felt I was back there. For me the more supernatural aspects that occur in this genre were the weaker points. A good game that apparently 'bombed'. A shame; it deserves better appreciation.
