This timer has seen use in our house to set various deadlines for our daughters (iPads, TV, chores, music practise, naughty step etc.), it's also been used in school in Drama lessons and I have to say it works very well.At its simplest this device has three discreet timers that operate one after the other, each with LED lights and a sound. Each timer can be set for as little as zero seconds to 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds. If green is set to 10 seconds, amber to 10 seconds and red to 10 seconds, pressing start results in a beep and a solid green light that flashes when 3 seconds are left, then a beep, 7 seconds of solid amber with 3 seconds of flash, beep, red and 3 seconds of flash and finally 3 beeps after the total time has expired.I didn't use the instructions to set the device up, but they are (for these days) surprisingly well written with a clear diagram of the parts referred to in the instructions.I happened to have a suitable 6v mains adaptor (but can't find one on their website), otherwise 4 AA batteries are required, as is a small cross-head screwdriver to access the battery compartment; one also needs to remove a small tab to activate the back-up battery which retains the settings should one remove the AAs or the adaptor. There's a helpful note to say if using an adaptor always remove the plug from the unit before disconnecting the mains end otherwise settings will be lost. Oh! And it runs happily on rechargeable batteries. The light surfaces extend 180° around the unit, so a pretty good field of vision. If using with a class of children it will need to sit at the front of the room. It's LEDs are bright enough to be seen in a sunny room, and the adjustable volume is loud enough for most situations. I prefer it set to zero as I find the sounds rather tinny, although when is use with my daughters the sound is usually turned up!Oh! And there's an auto timer option which is the quickest way to set it up. Just enter the total time for the event and the device will split the time as follows: 80% green, 15% amber and 5% red, so using the instruction book's example a 10 minute timer will result in 8 minutes green, amber for 1 minute 30 seconds and 30 seconds of red. There's a reset button if it starts playing up (it hasn't) accessed with a paperclip. Can't find any information about a warranty. So there we are!

I always leave an honest review, and I usually have an improvement or two that could be made. However, this has proven to be the most valuable tool in our household, without a doubt. My son is 5, autistic, needs to know exactly what's coming and is rigid in his routines. The time tracker has become the sole reliance for him to understand when something starts, is nearly over, and when something has to end. It changes from green, through yellow and finally red. It also has the benefit of a countdown on top, which my son finds useful and enjoys (he loves numbers). There is a short tune that plays in between the colours and another at the very end.It is extremely useful that this has a volume control for those autistic people who may be sound sensitive, like my son, who prefers a lower volume.USEFUL TIP:My son is very sensory and quite light sensitive, so I was glad that the lights on the timer do not reach all the way around. As there is no option to dim the lights, I turn it slightly into the wall so that the light does not affect him as much. There are numerous options and it is quite tricky to get to grips with it to begin with, but once you've got the hang of the controls, you're good to go. There is a timer option, which you can choose how long each light colour will last for, very useful for those who struggle with ending a task as you can prolong the red colour. And there is an auto timer option, whereby you set an amount of time and the timer averages out how long each colour should be (red being the shortest), this works for my son, but may not for some. Before the time tracker, we struggled with telling our son when something was about to begin or end (bathtimes, iPad, time to get dressed, how long before we go out), he would constantly ask "how long" without really understanding time. Life has become so much easier since we bought this brilliant tool!It seems pricey but honestly, it's worth more than its weight in gold and I'm certain this will be a brilliant resource to any parent or family with a child who struggles with time, whether autistic or not.

This is a good simple presentation timer. You can opt for the auto-timer option and set just a single duration from start to finish where it will automatically set the split for red, yellow and green. Alternatively you can manually set the duration for each of the colours to suit your requirements. These two timers are independent and will be remembered so you can just select if you want the Timer, or Auto-timer, start it and off it goes. You can pause the timer if you need to by pressing one of the left or right arrows, normally used to increase or decrease when setting the timer up. To resume the timer where you paused, just press Start again and it will carry on where you left off.You have to be a little bit careful not to press the increase/decrease buttons by accident when in use, say to move it around, as there is no indication that the timer is paused. To stop the timer sequence you just need to hold down the Menu or Enter button for 3 seconds and it will cancel the timer, ready for another session. If you're standing the timer on a pedestal or podium then the timer display is a bit hard to see as there is no back-light, but it you just start it and leave it, then it's not a problem. It would be nice to have an adjustable back-light on the timer display for times when you're in a low light room and need to adjust it, but not a big deal.I had an issue with the clock just resetting when the timer started, but I found that was just down to some of the batteries being bad and it not having enough power to light up the bulbs and so when the light was supposed to come on it instead dropped the power to the timer module, resetting it.Overall, a great handy unit for conference speaker to help keep talks on track or to keep your child focused and on schedule.

My son aged 9 has Aspergers and finds timing difficult. We tried egg-timers but he forgets to look at them or doesn't notice when they've run out. The local Autism group suggested the Time Tracker. All I can say is Wow!! This has exceeded all my expectations. It's really helped him with so many things. EG If he's playing his DS before school, he knows he has to save the game once its gone yellow, but can keep playing till the light changes to red, then has to get his shoes on before the buzzer goes off. Similarly for something he doesn't want to do, e.g. homework, he can see once it gets to yellow he hasn't got too much longer to go. It provides a clear visual indication that he can relate to,as it's like traffic lights! This is something that words alone, clock faces, digital displays or sand timers don't seem able to provide for him. It's big enough and bright enough to catch his attention and there is always the option of a sound to accompany the change from green/yellow or yellow/red. We now use it for everything from making sure he brushes his teeth long enough to how much time he's allowed on the computer, to getting dressed for school. In fact all the family use it...we may need to buy more! The kids love the different range of sounds and although programming it is not particularly intuitive once you know how to do it it is actually quick and easy. If I could suggest one thing to the company it would be to make a mini version that you can sit on top of a PC or on their desk (about 10cm tall would be great) not to replace this one but just to allow it to fit onto small spaces. Especially if you could program a small one with a specific time then just hit one button to start it.

This is expensive but it is a very good piece of kit. Be aware you will need a small phillips head screwdriver to remove the lid to the battery compartment and you will also need to provide x4 AAA batteries. (Though it does come with x2 LR44 back-up batteries for the clock, already in place.) It is possible to buy a separate power adaptor for it.When I first got it out of the box, I tried setting it up without using the instructions and I managed to set the manual countdown relatively easily. Checking with the instruction booklet (which is easy to follow), I set the clock (which seems slightly superfluous to requirements)and also found out how to do the automatic countdown.Basically the time tracker allows you to set a countdown and have the traffic light colours change as time runs out. If you set a manual countdown, you decide at what point the lights change from green to yellow to red. On an automatic countdown the time is split into 80% green at the beginning, then 15% yellow and ends with 5% red. There is also a volume control so you can choose to listen to an audible sound as well, which tells you when the colours change and when the time has run out.I chose it to help with study times but it's also quite useful as a cooking timer, especially if you have different things to do at different times, you can use the light change as a signal to do something. My mum likes to use it, as it's much larger than our regular kitchen timer and is less easy to ignore.Overall - excellent but expensive.

I am pleased to see the other reviews relating to use with an autistic child because that is my prime need. Any adult with an autistic child in the family will understand how a visual timer could help. Previously we've been using graduated sand timers (on the hourglass principle - each with different amounts of sand, delivering different timings). But I can think of lots of other potential for this:1. Any child - the machine replaces the adult saying "10 more minutes then bed/bath/whatever..."2. In a classroom: yes, one thinks of kiddies but I taught adults and, in a number of subjects, they were required to make timed presentations. How much better to have had this than the hands on my watch and waving signals about time left. This would be like the podium light at conferences.3. Hardcore Scalextric - start the race with this like a proper F1 meeting.4. Self discipline about how long to spend on something.5 An alarm clock to wake one in the morning.6 Kitchen timer (I like to bake and the idea of the amber timing is more useful than undersetting the typical kitchen timer to allow time to go and check on progress).Lights are a 180 display not 360 but that is sufficient. The sound volume is controllable up to very loud (which apparently was the default setting when I unpacked and fitted the batteries!). Made me jump.Alarm times from 1 second to 24 hours.Probably not sturdy enough for rough handling.Needs 4 AAA batteries to fully function. A mains lead is an extra purchase.

I know that this was most probably not what it was designed for but i am actually using this as a kitchen timer.I have 4 mental health conditions, Spinal conditions, and Fibromyalgia and i have lost count of the amount of times i have put food on and forgotten about it and its burnt and started smoking and ive almost burnt the house down on hundreds of occasions.I like this because the traffic light system is good because if you are cooking multiple items you know that when the lights cycle through that when it goes amber then its time to turn on the spuds, and when it goes red the vegetables. I have found it extremely useful and have not burnt anything since i got it.I have my timer constantly set to 50 minutes as i cook everything at 150.The lights beep as they change colour and when it goes red it gives off a really loud beeping you cannot ignore. Its very easy to set up once you realise that the majority of the time needs to be set to green, i have mine on 20 minutes, amber on 20 minutes and red on 10 minutes. When i 1st set it up i did it wrong because its set up for hours and minutes and seconds and so it went on for ages, but once you do it once you get the hang of it. I also like the fact that the clock on the timer stays on, even when its turned off.I do think however that considering it costs 30 quid that they could of included batteries and a usb cable because to not do so is rather cheap.

For many years, I was a member of Toasmasters International - an organisation that teaches public speaking. We always had to construct cumbersome lines of bulbs to time speakers - and then press the yellow, green and red lights as people reached their allocations. For years I looked for an alternative solution, and then this popped up among the children's toys. The auto-timer setting means that if I set a 7 minute time limit it offers warnings at key moments and ends with a simple red light. I'll be using it in my sessions from now on.Its other important application is 'screen time' with the kids. I'm not saying they take any notice of the time limits. But it at least marks out time approved by mum and dad,and transgressive time - when they're overdoing it. My son asked to use it with his iPad.I like the hour glass design. It takes about 10 minutes to get the hang of how it works. Its size and colours make it seem like a toy, thus the children are curious and want to play with it. I'm sure there will be other ways it will come in handy in the future.

My 9 year old daughter has ADHD and although it was a little expensive we took a chance on this product and I'm very glad we did. It is good for anyone who has trouble with managing time. You set the time and when you press start the green light comes on and a sound of choice, I use the 'begin' voice sound. On auto after 80% of the time the light changes to yellow and there's another sound to indicate time is running out, then at the end the light changes to red and there's another sound, I use the 'time's up' voice sound. There is also a manual mode where you can set the percentage of red, yellow and green light. The traffic light system combined with the sounds have been a real winner for our daughter,we use it mostly at bedtime to set her time for reading before she goes to sleep, but have also used it for other tasks. It gives her a tool to manage her own behaviour and gain a degree of autonomy and I haven't regretted the purchase once.

This was bought to help both my children manage time better when playing games or doing other tasks that require concentration. I have to say I like this product as do my children. It appears good quality, well thought out, easy to use and comes with clear instructions. It takes four AAA batteries but can’t comment on battery life as not had it long enough to know yet. I have had it on auto setting which manages the time that the different lights stay on green 80% etc but you can also manual set if you want different time segments. If you make a mistake setting timer and want to stop it then you press and hold the menu button. There is also a hard reset button just above the mains cable jack.Power cable is not supplied though but that doesn’t bother me as want it to run on batteries anyway for portability. The lights are bright and it makes a sound each time it changes segment. All in all very pleased with this, it is a very good product.

What a amazing difference it's made to our routines at home which are quite structured anyway as my daughter has autism but I wish I had bought this 2 years ago when we started on the spectrum journey.Once you get the hang of setting it it's a really quick useful tool and helps in lots of situations: tidy up time, time to go, time to put shoes on, iPad times finished, time to leave for school etc. Helps reinforce visuals aswell. And although my daughter is only just coming upto 4 she will now come and tell me it's gone red and tell me what's next- amazing.! She adapted to it within a couple of days which again surprised me as change is often a issue with her. She's very visual but sensory so we don't use the sounds but I can see how they would be useful with others- so flexible to your need aswell.I would highly recommend to any parent with asd/spectrum children or even non spectrum children who have issues with timings for things.

My 3 year old has autism and is a pain to get to bed at night. We've tried several things but without consistent time based, automatic methods we fail time and again.Having other young children to sort out too we can set this, leave it to run its course and he often now goes to bed without putting up a fight and he even let's us turn off his dvd which was a massive part of the battle. We even made up a rhyme for when the timer lights the red light we said "red means bed"It's easy to set, you can manually set how long you want each segment to light or leave it on auto and it will split the total time 80/15/5 % across the 3 lights which is great for when you want the last light to be the one thatwarns them the time is nearly up.You can set a sound for when it switches between colours and an end sound.Very versatile and mine enjoyed helping me set it and understands it's "his timer"Thoroughly recommend

The time tracker is amazing. I thought about buying it a year ago but thought it was too expensive. At a recent parent's evening the teachers said my 6 year old needed to speed up a bit in his work so I thought let me invest in this as a tool to aid in developing this area. I only wish I had bought it earlier!Pros1. Big and colourful2. The different sounds make it interesting3. Easy to use once you get the hang of itCons1. Would be good if you could store multiple time settings rather than just 2 (manual and auto).2. Setting the time could be a little easierOverall this has helped us start on the path to getting things done a little quicker. It has for example already transformed our mealtimes! They used to take an hour but now the kids know that if they haven't finished dinner before the Time Tracker ends there'll be no pudding!!

Neat idea and excellent little timer as it is very effective, we already used ordinary (audible only) timers but the visual component here adds impact… so much so, the first it went RED my son got upset… it turned out that at his school when children have been behaving badly they get put into the red zone… so he equated it with that. Still, when we use it now, he looks at it in our hands and thinks ‘oh dear’.The little are a little bit glaring, which is fine in daylight but not ideal at night, so we turn it so it’s not pointing right at us (be nice to have a dimmer on it), and also, the final alarm is a bit rubbish… it just squawks briefly then the whole unit switches off. Therefore,it’s easy to miss the alarm sound if you’re out the room, but when you walk back in, if there are no lights left on, you know the alarm’s already sounded.

This product is fantastic!I bought this product for my son who has ASD, and I wanted to use it as a visual timer for activities and also when he needs time out. And I must say it has certainly enabled me to do this.My son likes it because he knows exactly when his time is coming to an end, and when time is up he is prepared and doesn't argue with the timer!Although you have to read the instructions to figure out how to programme it first time, I found this helpful as it has meant that my son can not play with the timer himself. The product has a volume dial so that you can either have it on silent or anywhere up to loud. Also if the lights are too bright, which is not an issue for my son but could be for some, you could use it turned to face a wall, the lights would illuminate the wall.
