Filters nearly always feel 'right', or not, on first handling. If it screws on neatly, progressively tightening and then stays secure but not when screwed tightly - and then unscrews in exactly the same way, getting easier as it goes, then you've got a good one.In my opinion (I've been photographing, to some degree, for forty years) spending as much as one can on a well-known brand doesn't necessarily reap the rewards the salespeople will tell you. Essentially, it's just a flat, plain piece of glass that you need but it's how that is kept in place that's more important.Yes, this a UV filter but that effect is almost nil and so to me it's purely to protect a lens' front element. In my case,a pro-standard Nikkor G 85mm f1.8. Any debate about this filter not being multicoated is offset by the lens' deep hood and being of longer focal length and so won't be affected the same way as a complex zoom or wide-angle would.Tiffen filters are cheaper than many and I've had a couple on other lenses; all have lasted well and not fallen apart. I would strongly suggest though, that savings made on a UV/Protector filter is put toward a decent polariser - a true filter that will dramatically improve your photos and where getting the best you can afford really does pay dividends.

As this is my first foray into the world of SLR cameras, I was slightly apprehensive about purchasing an item, which some say is not worth purchasing. On the subject of build quality, I can say that the unit I received does not seem to have a lense that rattles in the mount, and it screws tightly enough into my 18-105 Nikon lense.I have taken about 1200 frames with this filter on, in varying conditions, and have not noticed any reflections in the images. In order to get a comparison, I did take two photos, one with the filter, and one without. When I put the two test frames side by side, I was not able to detect any difference between the two.Should this filter get damaged, or when I purchase another lense,I might just buy a different, more expensive filter, to see whether I have been missing out.

Well, If you buy cheap you pay twice as the saying goes. This filter is poorly constructed. The glass is not a tight fit in the holder, being so loose that it will spin. There is also far too much play front to back within the holder & the result is a filter that rattles loudly when handled & on the camera lens. It may not impair performance but it is EXTREEMLY ANNOYING!!!!Very very dissapointed.Since posting this review I discovered an inner Ring with two small groves which when rotated clock wise with a pen tip tightened the Glass in the filter & stopped the rattle. Now a very useful filter (Just poor quality control)Update -still being used & proving useful.this filter is actually well constructed.

I had a Hoya 1B HMC Skylight before, which broke over a pebble and saved my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 (on a Canon 40D house) when I dropped the bag (a Soligor Classic Line, size M) from about 1m / 3.5ft.I decided on this filter mainly for the cost savings compared to a Hoya or Dörr etc, and am very pleased.I'm not a pro photographer, and use this filter mostly indoors (as mentioned above, it sits on the front of a 30mm f/1.4), so UV influx is rarely a problem anyway. That said, I haven't noticed any bad influence at all of this filter on the picture quality I get, and the fit (thread size and cap compatibility) is great and build quality seems all good so I'm a happy sailor.

Protects the lens and in most shots I can't tell the difference between filter and no filter. Occasionally you will get noticeable reflections from strong sun at certain angles that go away when you remove the filter but on the whole I usually leave it on all the time. I use my camera paragliding and have to leave the lens cap off in the air as it is too fiddly to put back on with thick gloves. I have been through a couple of these filters in the last few years and they have saved an expensive lens from being scratched. Better to replace a cheap filter than risk scratching your lens.

With the cost of camera lens in the hundreds I thought I better get myself a filter which could double up as a protector should I have an accident. Happy with the filter, once it is screwed on you can forget it is even on. Lens caps clip on to them no problem. As they screw on they can be easily removed again if required. Should I have an accident and drop the camera I'd rather this lens take the impact and crack rather than the lens itself!Have used this while taking lots of holiday pictures and they've all come out well.

For the money paid, I'm delighted.A good quality, well manufactured, well priced 58mm UV filter. Bought to mainly protect my new lens, this is exactly what I needed and the price was excellent. I see no manufacturing gripes that have been highlighted in previous reviews, but for general protection (all my lenses have UV filters on them) and nice build quality, I find it hard to see how you could go wrong.Great stuff.

I've found this filter from Tiffen to be just as good as the more expensive filter that it replaced. I've seen no noticeable drop in image quality with the filter attached and have no complaints about the build quality that some other reviewers have observed. It's pretty much "fit and forget".All things considered, this is a cost effective way of protecting a far more expensive lens and so is highly recommended.

Tiffen 67mm UV filter fits my Nikon 18-105mm VR ED lens nicely. It helps to reduce a lot of glares and flares which come up from light reflecting objects on a bright day. I have mostly used it in beach and cities. This filter increases the colour tone and contrast and gives a rich depth. It also helps protect my expensive lens. I would recommend it to all DSLR user as a great bargain filter.

amazon have asked me to review this filter, however i do not reckon to being an expert, i now have 2 of these as permanant attachments to my lenses, some one else will tell you if they are any good or not, i use them to protect the lenses, in that respect i have no complaints and i am happy with most of my photos, the bad photos i presume are down to me and not the filers, hope this helps

Bought this for my 450D and it does exactly what its supposed to. Not taken any pics where its UV filtering propeties will come in useful yet, but its primary job at the moment is to protect the len.Its got threads on its outer aspect to allow the attachment of further filters or hoods if you want.At £8 its a bargain, its for sale in Tottenham Court Road at £30!!! What a rip off!

A low Budget Amateur, but. I eventually saved up for a 1.4 ,50mm. Lens. So, to protect it... I opted for this keenly priced protector filter. .... That I remove prior to taking 'The Shot'.Yes I do only use it as a protection to my glass, and still have no shame of giving this product 5 stars for it. .. at 77mm I have some extreme prices. This one was Ideal for my Budget.

Not heard of Tiffen before. But took the plunge, and purchased this filter. Must say not bad at all. Quality is excellent. On par with Hoya. But cheaper. Fit the lens perfect. And doing it's job fine. I will be getting some more of these soon. Looked up Tiffen on net. They are USA manufacturer . Been going a long time, and have loads of stuff on their web site.

Good fit and great protection. Had this filter in place on my expensive lens at Blackpool Airshow. Had a white salt deposit on it as the sea was rough. Protected my lens from salt spray washed and cleaned without showing any signs of damage. Could not have done this with the lens if I had not had it in place it could have been very expensive replacing the lens

I bought this Tiffen UV filter for one of my lenses, and for the price I paid just under £6.00 from Amazon I am very happy it's very well made, actually made in the USA, very good quality glass rally deals with the UV light that causes haze in photo's it's perfect as good as Hoya filters but cheaper, buy this brand with confidenceHighly recommended,Paul.B
