Building the setYou can find instructions to build the set released by the manufacturer athttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0BSus_5BxIwith some difficult sections highlighted in the reviewhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJJQ3swxGM4from 2:30Fixing TB1 & TB3 Launch BaysSeveral people have complained about the motors on the TB1 and TB3 launch pads having stopped working and I had the same problem. The issue is that the motors use a 'wind up action' and are no longer being wound up enough. Thankfully, this is surprisingly simple to fix. You just need to wind them up again and this is done by the action of pulling the motor down from top to bottom.Look closely at the motor which is on the inside to the left of TB3's bay and the outside right of TB 1. The white motor is housed in a small grey box. It can be removed for replacement but you should not need to!!! Look at where the launch bays teeth connect with the motors gears. Your goal is to break the connection between the teeth and the gears while the pad goes up, thus, saving the motors 'charge'. It should be easy as the launch bay is made of fairly flexible plastic. The easy way is to pull the launch pad down as much as you can, then press the button to let the motor raise the pad up as normal BUT THEN pull the teeth away from the motor gears and simply push the pad up with you hand. This action saves the charge in the gear box (where it is needed). Now your launch pad should be at the top of the launch tube where you pushed it, so you can pull the motor back down and, when doing so, you should here the wind up motor 'charge' as it comes down again. By the time you reach the bottom, you should have 'fully charged' the motor again and it will return to normal working order. If it has not, just repeat the procedure again until the wind up motor is fully charged.

A "beautiful" toy, that's how I would describe this Tracy Island in a single word. It's a pleasure to look at it and my soon-to-be 3 years old son is completely fascinated while playing. It's build with superior quality materials and a lot of attention was paid to the little things in the design, which makes it special. The little palm trees that are all uniquely looking and not just a copy of each other. The hidden cave for Thunderbird 4. Brain's lab with the robotic arm. And so on, all very special. But let me address two of the main complains that I read in other reviews:First, the Thunderbird 3 lift fault: many reviewers report that it stopped working very quickly, in some cases within the first hour.Being curious about it, I analysed its design when ours arrived and, indeed, I can see how it could break: it's a long distance for the mechanism to lift the platform, almost twice the distance of Thunderbird 1's. But, after 2 days of constant playing by a toddler, ours is still working. Maybe the manufacturer changed the design? I will update the review if it fails. I did ask my son to only push the platform down, never up, and he has been complying!Second, the building instructions and effort: some reviewers complain that it took them a long time to put the island together and that the instructions aren't clear. I tend not to agree with them. The instructions are good and, if you follow them, you should have the job finished within 30 minutes. I think the problem is that due to the high quality of the plastic, it's malleable and not rigid, and this requires a bit more effort to make sure that the 4 main structure blocks seamlessly fit together. This isn't Lego! Our family is very happy with this toy and I suspect that this will be one of those that will eventually decorate our son's room when he grows up!

Bought one of these from Argos in order to check the quality as I was considering buying them wholesale to sell.Took me about 50 minutes to construct (whilst watching Homeland!), I fix things and make models regularly. It requires care during construction and the instructions are sufficiently detailed but do need to be read thoroughly. I imagine most children will need some parental help; should be seen as a construction toy a bit like a LEGO or one of those new clip-together Airfix kits. The internal parts and launch tubes fit together well (again read the instructions well, some bits are tricky). The outer the 'rocky' surface is a flexible rubber-like material. It needs some forcible handling to fit together and you never get an exact fit, but the gaps form part of the rocky outline and are not very noticeable (designed to be like that I think). My first TB1 launch tube didn't go all the way to the top. So I phoned Vivid imaginations, they sent me a postage paid label and replaced it within a week. No issues on the phone with getting a replacement, I think they are well aware of the issues with this product (they didn't need me to have a receipt - so if it was a Christmas present you'll still get full support from them). All the launch sequences and lights/sounds work well, and remind you of the 'real thing'. Excellent toy I think (but I'm 41), would have loved this as a kid.Note: this is designed according to the new animation Thunderbirds series, not the proper Supermarionation original series.Does NOT include any vehicles (it does say this on the box, but in very small print on the front lower corner) - really should be a bit clearer!Great toy, and with all the leaning palm trees, jet blast deflector, rising launch platform action sequences in the original series!!

This is a well designed toy that has been hampered by small faults, that appear to be the result of trying to meet a price point. The thought behind the launches on this is brilliant, the designers are obviously fans and really thought about how children would play with it. The concept and execution is spot on. But the mechanism for TB 1 & 2 is essentially a pull back motor you would find in a small toy car and it really gives the impression that it could break at anytime although 2 months on and so far it's ok. Also the Palm trees at TB2's runway are so poorly connected you will need to either glue them on or forget them. The assembly as some people have said can seem tricky BUT i would advise anyone buying this to check out the official instruction video on YouTube. It is much easier to follow and shows you how pieces should be inserted and just how firmly you need to press them in. I have no gaps or misaligned pieces and it is completely down to following the video. It should take and hour to two to build.Overall a great toy, you just get the impression as you do with the entire Thunderbird toy range (the figures are an atrocious quality) that the designers have came up with something brilliant then someone in accounting has insisted they compromise parts to meet a pre determined price point and this really lets the toy down. This is expensive but when you look at the more expensive Teenage Mutant Turtle Lair which has none of the moving parts or electronics this has yet still sold well for £20 more, you can see that they could have put another £10 on the price and made sure the motorised components and the palm trees were of a higher quality.they are small faults but can have a big impact on an otherwise excellent toy

I bought this for my 5 year old son. He's a massive Thunderbirds are Go! fan and thinks this Tracy Island is amazing. That said, there are some things to consider if you are thinking of buying this:1) It comes with no vehicles - you need to buy them seperately2) I've built this toy twice now (first one had a problem and had to be exchanged) and I can say it takes a good hour to build if you take any care over applying the stickers. There are *lots* of stickers and it takes a while to apply them all, especially if you are trying to be neat/accurate.3) Building this toy can be very frustrating for a couple of reasons - there are *lots* of stickers and the second issue is that some of the parts are flexible and need bending into place - a couple of times I was worried that I would break it.4)Some people have said you need to follow a video of instructions in order to build it - you don't, you just need patience.5) It takes 2 different kinds of batteries (AAA for the base itself and 3 small watch type batteries for the communicator) - batteries are not included. The first one I purchased suffered from a problem with the thunderbird 3 launch pad after about a month of use. Basically, the launch pad wouold no longer go all the way to the top of the launch tube. I understand that quite a few people have had this issue so don't be too surprised if this happens to you. The replacement looks slightly different to the original so I don't know if the design has been changed - the tab to pull down the TB3 launchpad is now yellow instead of grey.

This is mainly a review of the assembly. It really isn't as bad as people are making out! That said, I would recommend you assemble this prior to giving as a present to a child as with patience it does take approx 1 hour to assemble.Get yourself 3 AAA and 3 LR44 batteries before you start, only tool required is a small phillips screwdriver for battery compartment.Follow the instructions and do a search on youtube for 'Tracy Island Assembly' - Vivid have an official YouTube video which is 5 mins long and follows the instructions identically. It helps a lot pausing and playing as you're going through. Take time to place the stickers on each piece before its installation - this really is what takes the time up setting this up.Again though, from other reviews saying how many there was I was expecting about 200 stickers, its more like in the region of 30-40.The flexible parts on it don't require a huge amount of force to fit, again just patience to make sure its all located correctly.I can't comment on the reliability yet as its now wrapped ready for Christmas morning but i'll update the review if I find it has any issues. The model I assembled had yellow handles for the T1 and T3 launchpads already in the box - a few older reviews say these are being offered as a replacement to grey ones so it could be that the model I assembled has been improved slightly on a previous revision.4/5 as for a child's toy it is quite a complex setup but take your time and don't let other reviews put you off as it really isn't that hard to put together.

The box is MASSIVE! I was worried how big it was when assembled... But needn't have worried it's about half the size. There's an online assembly video which you may well want to watch as there are MANY parts, my husband who can fix car engines did it just following the instructions. Also there's stickers to apply, some in quite fiddly spaces. The 'rock' exterior is made of a rubbery plastic and can be hard to get to snap into place. The trees on the launch strip fall off quite easily. And you'll need ALOT of batteries and not your standard ones either. You need to buy the vehicles separately. I bought the 4 piece vehicle super set which works perfectly with it. All this is why I've put it as a 4*.Saying all that,it's good. Great fun and great sounds. My 3yr old son loves it, not sure how long some parts will keep working for as he's a bit rough with it and some of the complex launch routines are a struggle for him, he tends to use force rather than work out why it's not working (open the bay door!!) But it's fun, and all in all a good toy. But you would need the vehicles. Would I recommend? Definitely.Bonus feature my son's designed is that you can drive the Disney die cast Car cars over the outside of Tracy Island... Who knew. ?

As Toys go, this is amazing!! It's a Christmas present for my son, so he hasn't saw it yet. I'm normally very harsh when it comes to toys as most are pants and my little one gets bored very easily! I have no doubt he will love it as I have actually sat and played with it, before wrapping it. (Not like me)My advise is, if this a present - please assemble it before you give it to your child. It took me about an hour to put together. I normally give stuff like this to my Dad or other half to do. This year I had a go on my own. Apart from one little niggle of brains computer. (Which resulted in me getting the screwdriver out and taking it apart) It wasn't too bad.No it doesn't fit together perfectly, but what do you expect with today's toys! From some of the reviews I was dreading putting it together, but with a bit of force and banging - it wasn't too bad.Definitely a must for a thunderbirds fan. I may change my mind when my little boy gets his hands on it though. He is always very careful and looks after his toys. I think if it is being given to a very heavy handed child....I would think again!

Okay, to summarise:1. Yes, it's very expensive.2. But hey, my little boy loves it, he's over the moon.3. I see that a lot of people are criticizing the rocket launch mechanisms - I can imagine that it could be broken over time - with our kid, so far, so good...but he has been told to take it easy....supeglue is necessary with the coconut trees after a day or two, no big deal.4. I took 1.5 hours to build it - and that's with the youtube guide (and coffee breaks). Top tip of the week - DO NOT leave this in the box for christmas morning, or else face some stress when still assembling the thing when the in laws arrive at the front door and your wife is hanging a nervous breakdown in the kitchen. As I said, you need peace and quiet on your own to assemble this thing (and avoid putting the stickers on upside down).5. The spaceships that go with the island are great, but as others have written, the quality could be better, However, I find that with all the toys manufactured today.Overall, a great toy, although in my opinion a bit pricey. (Oh, before I forget, F.A.B.)

Very well made, enjoyable two hours it took putting it all together, definitely a nice puzzle to test my Brains finding out where to put the batteries as there was definitely nothing about it in any of the instructions or paperwork found in my box, and my 4 year old was absolutely thrilled to receive this for his 4th birthday, and he and his 6 year old brother play would play with it non-stop if we didn't ever stop them. But sometimes eating, or washing, or cleaning teeth, or sleeping, is more important even than Thunderbirds! Very sturdy, a small gripe is that the round building at the top of the Thunderbird 3 launch bay comes off too easily, there is nothing really to hold it in place,so my boys occasionally pull it off. It's easy enough to push back down again but it really should stay on by itself. Also the palm trees pull out too easily, I would have preferred if they screwed in. We've already lost two of them.

Well, having surprised our 5yr old with this on Christmas morning it was played with constantly till pretty much bed time, then again till lunch time on Boxing Day by 4 children. It is made well, using good solid plastic, and after I was spared the considerable task of building it (having a hands-on granddad/father in law) the family were generally pleased with the purchase. Now however it seems a popular fault has raised it's ugly head. The lift motor for TB3 seems to have failed. Initially I thought I was the battery power failing, but TB1 has no issues launching. I will now need to rescue various bits of box and instructions from the Xmas rubbish pile to try and find a contact number to see if these are available.I'm not looking forward to taking the things part to install the new motor. Aside from this, which the boys can play around, still generally pleased.

My 5yr old was desperate for Tracy Island & couldn't contain his excitement when it arrived!!! However, it takes a long time to set up, my son watched as my husband took an hour & a half to put it all together!!! There are untold number of stickers to add to each section & then the sections have to be connected together, looks good when done but very fiddly & time consuming, for the money I would expect the stickers to have already been applied!!! Unless your child is of an age to help you put it together I would advise having it all set up & batteries inserted before even showing it to your child! Also, the vehicle launchers are VERY noisy!Having said this my son LOVES it & couldn't be happier with what he spent his birthday money on :-)

I agree with other reviewers that it is rather fiddly to assemble. I would recommend watching the video guide on youtube alongside the instructions, otherwise you will not know how to put it together. Assembly took me a good 1.5 hours. My kids love it, though, and it is still being played with long after Christmas, which is a good sign. It does not come with any figures or vehicles, so these will need to be bought separately (around £30 for pack of all four vehicles). The lights and sounds are good, and if you assemble it all correctly it will be robust enough to withstand normal play activity. In summary a good toy with good features.

My lad loves it, but be prepared: it comes in kit form and takes a good hour+ to put together and get the stickers on. Parts of it are quite fiddly but, with patience, it went together ok. Also, the launch mechanisms for TBirds 1&3 are VERY noisy, which gets annoying very quickly. Think of someone drilling into a wall. Every. Time. That aside, it seems fairly sturdy and any Thunderbirds fan will enjoy it. So long as they're playing with it in another room.I managed to get it for less than £40 which was good value. I'd have been very disappointed with it if I'd have paid more, though.
