Aside from a few irritating (but not essentially damaging) printing mistakes, for me this game is nearly perfect. It is a masterpiece in design.A group that play primarily light games allowed me to bring this to the table because I was practically frothing at the mouth about it, and the six of them ended up loving it. We've played 6 and 7 player games of it, and we'll be starting an eight race season pretty soon.I've played it with 'non-gamers' in a foursome and it went down a storm there too.I've also played it with a pretty hardcore group of gamers (in a 3, 4 and 5 player format) and everyone was a fan of it there. It even seems to work with two players, though it is a very different game.I highly recommend using a 2-lap race for your introductory game. Thoroughly explaining the draft mechanic, particularly how lateral moves are allowed only before forward movement (and linking) begins, and also covering corners, will pretty much guarantee you don't need anything more than a ten-minute explanation of rules. The yellow flag mechanic might not be for everyone, but it serves as a highly effective catch-up mechanic and feels flavourful too.I've heard a lot of complaints about 'unlucky' card draws, getting stuck at the back and what not. But the tactics here are clearly about piggy-backing other players in large groups and working together if you're behind. Managing a 'bad hand' of cards and competing with the rest of the pack in spite of them, for me, is one of the most rewarding experiences I've had with board games for a long, long time.I genuinely believe this is an excellent game that has ensured every person I've shown it to feels like a racing team leader. It's a monster.

Thunder Alley is intended to be fun. Sheer fun. The rules are extremely simple, but enough to make you feel at the edge of your seat in a NASCAR race.Probably due to copyright issues that would make the game a lot costlier to produce, there is no attempt at all of simulating real NASCAR tracks or real NASCAR drivers. The great idea here, for me, is that your cars are moving almost every single moment, even when it is not your turn to play! This avoid the usual downtime between a player turns. Also, unfortunately, due to that the best laid plans bore no fruit with a scary frequency, reflecting the chaos that sometimes is a NASCAR race. And, yes,a player always controls at least three cars (depending on the number of player on the table).Bear in mind that this game has a very clever mechanism of moving the cars. There are no dice at all like in FORMULA D, no car configuration like in the fabulous SPEED CIRCUIT. Car movement is based on card playing, That, of course, adds a lot of randomness, since you can not predict how good (or bad) your hand will be for a single turn and a single occasion. As for the quality of the box, it's very good. The track board is solid (the game has four tracks included), the cars pieces are practical and sturdy, cards are well designed and beautiful (there are two decks: Event cards and Race cards).Probably, beyond offering new tracks, the designers will soon publishing and updated game version, with more optional or definitive rules.Nice game.
