This Is Football is Sony Computer Entertainment's entry into a video game market that is dominated by Konami's International Superstar Soccer Evolution and Electronic Arts FIFA series. Ask any football game veteran and they will confirm that in comparison, FIFA takes a more aesthetic and arcade approach to the beautiful game, whereas ISS Evolution was designed with greater authenticity and simulation in mind. The beauty of TIF lies in the fact that it falls somewhere between both of these gaming ideals.TIF 2002, like it's Playstation One predecessors, is easy enough to master within a few games, without an intensive review of the manual. This is it's appeal, if you want to subscribe to a few quick games with friends,it is easy to get into and fun to play. However, after reading the manual, the game opens up and more complex skills can be learnt, such as team mate assisted defending, deliberate diving, one-two ground, chip and through-ball passes. There are four difficulty settings to ensure longevity and the range of tournaments available is impressive. There are 320 national league and international teams to choose from and the FifPro licence ensures that 5000 authentic players are included, (although their skills and graphical likeness is often called into question). Players can fulfil their footballing ambition in all of the major international tournaments, along with national league and cup competitions with the added bonus of European qualification and relegation. The graphics are smooth but players are somewhat blocky and their likeness is questionable. Whilst the FifPro licence ensures correct names in the games the team strips are only vaguely accurate and not a patch on the standards offered by the FIFA series in past years. There is only a limited range of stadia to choose from but whilst I am no expert, they do look rather impressive though. I especially like the dug outs with the subs and manager, the crowd waving when the camera pans in on them for a corner and the fact that we have assistant referees in the game. The commentary is unobtrusive and usually quite accurate but the crowd chanting, cheering and singing is excellent and really builds atmosphere in the game.In summary if you want a fun football game that has greater depth and realism than FIFA, but you do not want the intricacies of the ISS Evolution Pro Evolution learning curve, This Is Football 2002 will fit the bill nicely. I highly recommend it.Steve

I was unsure about getting this game after having this is football 2 for PSone which was just awful the graphics where laughable and the team edit section was a joke having to load each team you edited one by one.Thankfully all that has changed the graphics are stunning for the photo realistic players and the other players are just as good as fifa 2001 there are also numbers on the front of the shirts and the shorts as well as player names on the backs which makes just a little bit more realistic. The team edit section has changed as well the kit edit is better than ever and now when the game starts it loads all the teams you have edited. The gameplay is better than fifa by a mile and 2 playermatches are great fun .The controls are good and respond quicklly there are a few trick moves which really help in one on one situations, some mags say they don't work and you can't beat a player with just speed and they are right you can't beat the oppostion with speed but a well timed trick and your past them or the drag you down for a free kick, the triks are realistic shimmies and spins not stupid keepy ups which look pathetic. The commentery is super and the crowd actually cheer when you score they boo after a bad tackle and cris of ooooh when your striker misses an open goal. the crowd also jump up in celebration you can see there mouths moving singing the chant it adds so much it really feels that it is a big match. All the teams are there, English Prem, English first, French 1st and 2nd, Italian, Spanish, German, Dutch, Belgium, Portugal and Scottish prem which also includes Ayr United, Ross County, Inverness CT, Raith Rovers and St Mirren if you support one of these teams you have to get this game. There are also Euro teams that include russian, romainian, greek and alot more, also there are world club cup teams Boca Juniors and a few others also national sides from every part of the world and time worp sides like 50s Real Madrid and 60s Celtic there are just so many options.Overall this is a really good game of football beats fifa easily it's not as good as Pro Evolution Soccer will be but what will? Until it comes out this is the best PS2 football game avalible.

This is footy is a good game to buy for any football fan. It is very realistic but can be frustrating. Taking on a player is very difficult and running towards goal normally involves you getting tackled but that is what makes it realistic. One of the most frustrating parts of the game is that when an attacking player is running through on goal the defenders usually catch up to you and make a challenge. So the trick of this game is to play through balls using triangle this enables players to run on to the ball and score. Diving is a good and new option on this football game. You can dive by pressing R2 but make sure it is at the right time because you can get booked by the ref for a delibrate dive if you dive at the wrong time. Also when your defence is under attack you can use L1 for a team-mate assist when you do not have the ball. This puts the striker under pressure and he often loses the ball. Another great thing is that you can create teams. We created our local football team and we can play against the likes of Real Madrid. Cup and league seasons must also be won for completion of the game on all dificulties (almost impossible) you need to win every cup and every league on all dificulties. For a tip win everything on ameatur first. To get the All Time 22 team of all legendry superstars such as Cruyff, Maradona and Puskas you need to win the superteam championship on world class difficulty to get this team, WARNING!! this is very hard and will take you time. But the problem is you can only be Europe all stars. To win the Leicester square park pitch with lamposts as goalposts you must win the Euro cup on World class difficulty we did this with Holland because they have in our opinion good players such as Davids,Van Nistelrooy,Stam and Van Der Sar. It is very difficult so this may take time too. Overall this is a fantastic game because it is very hard you feel great when you win something. Richard Ballout aged 13 and Jack Cassidy aged 12

Well, being the ultimate football fan, quite apart from our Mottie or Statto, this was a must for me. Although I normally dont listen to the pre-release tripe that invariably seems to ebb its way on to 'reputable' games websites, you could be forgiven for taking just a sneak preview at some of them. They obviously glorified it, but the time honoured 'buy it to believe it' line, was all too apparent there too.So I trotted off to my local emporium, 50 squid in hand like a child holding a melting icecream, and promptly forked over. I got home, loaded my PS2 paying utmost attention to the instructions in the front of the booklet (as IF!) and the rest of the last month has just been somewhat of a blur.Trying to work amidst hallucinations of being Zidane scoring an overhead bicycle kick from outside the box, is no mean feat, but I managed to pull it off and convince my boss that I am worth the couple of quid he pays me at the end of the month. Even though I'd rather be at home developing RSI happily glued to the task of conquering the schoolboys jumpers for goal posts competition at master class. my memory card has never seen so much action.. it has requested that I get a life. I havent complied thus far.Get this game, or suffer the consequences. Questioning your existence, football ignorance, duffle coats, park benches, scratching your arse and collecting McDonalds paper cups. you get the picture.

I think this game is excellant.I only really play footy games, and, if I do say so myself, am something of an expert on them (I know my ISS's from my Libero Grandes to Sensibles,... etc etc). This is a great arcade footy game, when I first picked it up I thought it was a bit simple, but thats its brilliance, give it say 2 days of play and loads of intricies show up. In many magazine reviews, they complain that players such as Giggs arnt visibly faster as they should be etc, this is twaddle...if they bothered to practise the dribbling and knock ons then they would find that it was as life. I really feel like standing up big time for this game, it may not be as technical as the forthcoming, ISS,but it has great graphics and sound (Chants of "your so sh#t your unbelievable !!!!") best commentry I have heard, funny fake dives, cracking goals, loads of cups and teams (a major fault of ISS)....Many footy game fans are ISS Or FiFA fans...This Out FiFA's FiFa in every one of that games supposed strengths, and Is a perfect pick up and play companion to the "read the manual first" approach of the (I agree) excellant ISS Do give this game a go, its like Kelly Brook In a Big Pool Of Angel Delight, Wonderful

Well, some aspects of this game are brilliant and some are terrible. All of the big named stars are instantly recognisable with brilliant facial attributes. The commentary is on the whole pretty disappointing with glimmers of brilliance. What happened to keepers having names and he won't say the score above 3. 35 yards out and had a terrific shot which shaved the post and he said "That was terrible, so close and he's blasted it wide!" Also, since when have Arsenal been called Highbury? That's right, they don't have the licence for real team names, although players do. The graphics are cool with great backgrounds and stadia. Hook your PS2 up to your stereo and you'll be amazed at the authentic crowd reactions and chants. All in all a pretty decent game that allows good control with a fantastic longevity, it's just a shame about licences etc. If you have a post Fifa 2000 (2001 or 2002 for you southerners) it certainly isn't worth buying, but, if you're new to PS2 or want a greaty footy game, then this is certainly up there with the best. It whoops ISS but the Fifa series still has the edge in my book!

This Is Football 2002 is a decent game of football, no question. The graphics are very smooth with very few glitches, and a lot of the players have photo-realisitc faces that actually make them look like that player. Makes a change eh? The lifespan of the game is also very long, with 'Timewarp' teams i.e. 50's Madrid and school teams alongside the Premier and Divison one's of most leagues in Europe. There is pretty much every national team in the game, and also an option to create your own team. Endless amounts of kicking about to be had here. But does the gameplay do the rest of the game justice? In a word, yes. The gameplay is slick, with decent ball control and player movement. The speed of the game is good, and there are plenty of great goals to be scored, and a large pitch for balls into space. I would recommend this game to any football fan, but with the unbelievable Pro Evolution Soccer on the horizon, this may not be heading the charts for long!

Anyone who says that This Is Football 2002 is not THE best football game out has obviously never watched a game of football in their life. The brilliance of this game, unlike FIFA, is that passes do not go to feet unless the ball is executed properly. Whilst this game will not appeal to gamers who do not enjoy watchinge greatest sport in the world, any football lover will be amazed by the realism within this gamein my opinion this game got a lot of undeserved criticism for the ease of scoring. FOR CHRISTS SAKE, this is meant to be realistic, how many 40 yard goals do u see in real football. no disrespect to FIFA, they've held the title for long enough, but finally their is a realistic football game.I just wish people would realise that it's not meant to be easy.If you havn't already done so i seriously recommend buying this game.

This game outstands graphically from all soccer games (Fifa 2002 and ISS)on the PS2, come to think of it on all platforms. I love my football and when I found out that my wife got me this title as a christmas present I wasnt at first impressed to try another footy game after playing an even poorer attempt for this years FIFA 2002 and the unbeatable ISS, but team soho has really come up with a shocker of a game. Its not perfect in all areas. The animations needs to be polished as well as the AI. The game has an easy pick up and play arcade feel which isnt too complicated as ISS and has tones of hot atmosphere. The pro players look amazing.I have had a blinding christmas with the 4 player multi tap option with my mates (ManU 3 Tottenham 1).This games is up there with ISS. I wonder what This is football 2003 has to offer?

Having owned the previous release of this is football i was a bit apprehensive in buying this version. The old version failed, miserably, in gameplay, shooting and passing was very poor with no control. But this newer version has been amazingly polished up, the gameplay is emmense with more space on the pitch to pass and good shooting. The thing that impressed the most is the graphics, they are suberb, the players actually look like they should, Beckham looks identical and even runs and shoots like he does. This game utilises the ps2's power wonderfully, it's a joy to watch and play. A must for all footy fans, Its the closest you'll get to the real thing.

This is most deinitely the best football game on the market at the moment. As soon as the other team score, you really want to win, and its not that easy either. I have just moved up to World, on the skill level, after a week of playing on the pro level, I am still finding it tough. Master Class is ridiculously impossible for me at the moment! Edgar Davids, Zidane, Ronaldo and Beckham all are accurate in the way they run, shoot and play. This is scores 99% on the playability rating. Only thing is the camera angles leave a lot to be desired, if you haven't got 21" inch TV or bigger, you cant see the players on the far touchline. Wicked gaming though.

This is the best footie game that I have played for the PS2 ( I have played FIFA 2002 and ISS).I think that this game is in a league of its own, I played the demo (from the demo disc that Sony give you with the PS2) and the next day I brought it.You want a good football game, easy to control (from an experienced console football player! and compared to FIFA 2002), want to recognise your fav footballers when they score, want to keep the team up to date by tranfering players, then buy TIF2002, highly recommended!

17.5.2004

Just about every single team you ever wanted, lots of weather conditions, stadiums and referees makes a great game. There's plenty of options or special moves like shimmies, step overs and even the old fashion dive. Theres plenty of shooting styles and plenty of tackles to be done. Theres plenty of game play and difficulty levels as well as plenty of cups including a chance to build your own team. The game is one that you just don't get bored of playing, no matter how long you have it for.

5.1.2002

I bought this before FIFA 2002 came out and I liked it alot, especially the graphics. The gamplay is also really good because you have to depend on good passing rather than individual play. The timing of your tackles must also be spot on just like in real football. The graphics are superb. Beckham and Rivaldo are just like they are in real life. If I compare this game to FIFA 2002 there is no question this is the game to buy.

29.9.2001

A very good kick about and will certainly fill the gap in the PS2 football market until Pro Evolution Soccer comes out. Some problems with the AI of your team mates making it hard work to get an attack going at times but games are kept exciting.
