TellTale is a development company that comes from an old adventure game background deciding to focus on episodic character driven story adventures rather than serious gameplay, and they are very good at it.The Wolf Among Us is a prequel to a comic series called Fables (I have yet to read them but will after playing this) about what would happen if fairy tale characters were real and forced to move to the real world and try and survive. It's incredibly dark, gritty showing the hardships life may throw at them, forcing some to be strippers or alcholics etc. This is not a romantic view of these characters. In the game you play Bigby Wolf, the sherriff of Fabletown. He's feared, disliked but not necessarily the big bad wolf he's known to be. When a Fable is murdered and beheaded it's up to Bigby to find out who did it and why with everyone throwing obsticles in his way constantly. The gameplay involves a mixture of two elements. First is through dialogue involving multiple choice options and questions leading the conversations, depending on how you handle them will result in how characters respond to Bigby. The other half of the game involves a lot of quick time events to progress along scripted action events though even here there are choices characters will remember. This style of game will not appeal to everyone as it's all about the characters and plot, and pretty gameplay light so if that doesn't sound like you, ignore this game now. I personally get rather invested in the story and need to know what happens next at the end of each episode so loved it.The visuals are cell shaded and look gorgeous, completely comic book styled. More importantly though over the look of the game is the voice acting as everything you do revolves around it, it's simply superb. Bigby comes across as tough and grizzled, Snow White sounds almost buisness like, Beauty sounds a little sexy etc. They're really perfect for how their personalities are.Like previous games made by TellTale it's made of five episodes each taking an average of two hours each to play through. Each decision made effects certain aspects of the story in the next episode (to a limited degree) It was originally released as downloadable episodes before getting a full disc retail release.Recommended.+ Storyline is gripping and dark.+ Voice acting is excellent, perfect casting.+ Comic book art design is striking.- Will only appeal to people who like story focused adventure games.

After the run away success that was ‘The Walking Dead Season 1’ that @TelltaleGames launched in 2012, I was chomping at the bit to get my hands on another game from this excellent studio. When it was announced that it was a game adaptation of the graphic novel series ‘Fables’ I did not know how to take it. Yes ‘The Walking Dead’ was based around the graphic novels but the series as a whole was a lot more known to the general public.Fables if you are not up to speed is basically fairytales bought into the real world. You play as Bigby Wolf (The Big Bad Wolf) who is the sheriff of Fabletown. This is a district in New York where all the fairytale characters live in the real world. To ensure that the Fables do not freak out Joe public they get things called glamours which turns them into normal looking people. So a troll for example would look like a regular Joe.The game is about solving the murder which happens early in the first episode and as in the previous game you make moral choices that effect things later down the line.I have to say that although I felt the game was well written, I was not drawn in with the characters at all. I genuinely cared about Lee and Clementine in The Walking Dead but Bigby and others never really gripped me in the same way. Also I found that the loading times and some of the cut scenes were really laggy and it spoilt the flow. I was especially not keen on episode two which basically was just filler. Nothing really happened and if you were not keen on the first episode then you would have quit before the story found its feet in episode three. It took me about 10-15 hours I think to play it all through and the ending of the game was good as it did have a firm moral stance and made you think about everything you did. But I just did not really care. I did not want to play the game as being good or evil as it did not seem to have really much impact on things. It just made a few speeches a little different. For me this game will be a one off and I doubt I will buy a second series. Its a shame as I have now read a few of the novels and the actual base this game was built on is really clever and diverse. Maybe I will get drawn in next time but I will not be rushing to play it again.Sorry Telltale but you need to grip me again with either Game of thrones or Tales from the Borderlands.

As a newcomer to Telltale Games and the Fables series I still found a lot here to enjoy. The story is split over 5 episodes, each presented with an opening credits sequence and lasting about 80-100 minutes, perfect for sitting down of an evening and playing through. I played this with my other half and we both had a great time losing ourselves in the story. The plot itself is the darkest noir (this is absolutely not a game for kids) featuring extreme violence, foul language and themes such as prostitution, obsession, alcoholism and self-destruction. Great stuff! Mature and sophisticated story-telling is always very welcome. The game isn't so much a point-and-click game as it is an interactive novel.Occasionally you will be given an opportunity to interact with the environment. This takes the form either of a simple interface allowing you to look at and interact with objects or action sequences with quick-time-events (e.g. press the 'Y' button before you get hit). The majority of the time you are choosing dialogue options against a timer (which means you have to make decisions on the spot, giving it a really great feeling of tension). The decisions you make in game have lasting consequences and your relationship with different characters will affect how easy (or otherwise) it is to get them to help you later in the game. I liked this as it made each decision you make, each dialogue option you choose, feel like it had real weight and significance. Why 4 stars? Two reasons. The first is that while your decisions affect incidental details, they don't really have an enormous effect on the plot itself. You might see a character live or die, sure, but that isn't going to change 'whodunnit'. The second is that the game has some serious loading issues. By episode 5 the game freezes to load between every single camera cut, making the later actions sequences slow, clunky and it really breaks the immersion to hit someone and then have to look at a still image of their face for 30 seconds to a minute while the game loads the next action prompt.Otherwise, I will certainly be buying another Telltale game.

I guess I better start this by admitting that I had never heard of the fables comic series and as such came into this game with no knowledge of the back story of the characters apart from my general knowledge of fables/fairy tales. From this fresh point of view I really enjoyed the story, probably even more than Telltales season 2 of the walking dead. What you get in terms of gameplay is the staple Telltales game mechanic used in walking dead, Game of thrones, etc which is a general point and click with the odd QTE chucked in for good measure. Unfortunately this title seems more interactive movie with a limited amount of gameplay than any of the other aforementioned games and as such the player will hardly ever fail or be punished for any mistakes, unless I am actually just amazing at the game!Graphically the game has the look of a Telltale game as well so lots of cell shading which isn’t to everyone’s taste but I have always liked it as it has that comic feel to it which is a nice touch. If you are a fan of the walking dead games then this will be a pleasant addition to your collection or a decent game to play until the next instalment is released.

Packaging - The case was as you may expect from TellTale, colourful and vibrant, detailed and sure to catch your attention if in a shop, also looks nice on your shelf.Game - The game itself is brilliant, interesting story, the structure of it is perfect, having episodes in the game instead of levels is something TellTale do well, you see the "Next time on..." and automatically want to play the next part.Graphics - Comic book style graphics adds to the beauty of the storytelling, much like The Walking Dead seasons 1 & 2 this creates a dark but sexy world, a world you want to explore more and more.On a plus note the glitches that people including myself experienced in the psn downloaded version,no longer seems to be an issue, voices stay in sync and loading screens are fast.Very good game

If you ever liked the fairy tales story books then you are going to love this beautiful masterpiece of a game. Another fantastic game by telltale games which has a lot of the favourite fairy tale characters, but in dark kind of way. I was completely glued to the game, so many twists and turns, I could not put the controller down, I needed to know what happens next. Telltale are becoming one of the most successful story tellers and rightfully so, all the games the have made so far have been something special. If you liked the walking dead, game of thrones and borderlands then you need to play this game. One thing I can guarantee is you will not stop thinking about another game until you have completed this game.

This is another great little game from Telltale Games, based on the comic series Fables. It had been quite a few years since I had read the series (or rather any comic at all), so this threw me right back in to that little world I so enjoyed before. The story is great, although linear (most of the 'choices' don't seem to have a huge effect on the storyline) it has enough variation to warrant a second playthrough. The characters are interesting, featuring famous characters from both fairytales and nursery rhymes, which are all voiced very well. It's a very easy game, as with most from Telltale, but I would normally describe their style more as interactive movies.Story is key here and they definitely deliver.

Amazing graphics and storyline. I really like the interactive story angle they have taken. The story is excellent and the level of detail is brilliant. My only complaint is that it doesnt really matter what decisions you make as you will inevitably follow the same linear story (albeit there might be 1 or 2 people missing). Also kind of annoying you cant skip the intro videos especially after the first chapter. This game would be a perfect 5 stars if their were multiple outcomes to every decision but I imagine this would make the game infinitely larger although it would also add to the replayability factor. On the plus side you get all 5 chapters included so you save a bit of $.

Very rarely does a video game come along that I fall in love with almost immediately, but The Wolf Among Us is definitely in that category. As funny as it is dark, the gameplay drifts between being cute and cuddly to brutal and sinister. Not mentioning specifics, because I don't want to give anything away, but there are more than a few 'OMFG!!! Did you see that?!' moments that mean I'm not done with the game yet. Plenty of other choices for me to make, plenty of different outcomes.Couple of glitches, even after the update, but it'll take more than that for to me mark it down. Trust me, though, you will never look at fairy-tales in the same way again....

If you liked Telltales The walking dead 1 n 2 then you'll probably like this! Its exactly the same concept with 90% of the game is you controlling the convo or situation is too be played out (nice cop/bad cop kinda thing)Id never actually heard of this alternative fairy tale comic series so it was a nice surprise to learn a new dirty and adult natured side to the characters! Id never of guessed it was surrounded by murder, strippers, heavy smoking and bloody violence!Sadly, you dont feel so attached to the characters as you did in the Walking Dead but the overall story of the town that they now live in and what they do to survive makes up for it....

I love the telltale games, which are more like interactive stories, split into episodes. I am not familiar with the Fables comics, but I really loved the story and am now very interested in reading them. Lots of interesting characters and choices to be made here and unlike most of the telltale games, you cannot get all the trophies in one playthrough so it is worth playing more than once. Oh, and it looks fantastic, the art style is gorgeous. The story is dark and definitely not for kids, but if you like this type of game I would definitely recommend it.

31.1.2015

Awesome dark and stylish. Based on the comic series Fables, this game has a refreshingly un-censored comic style detective story alongside well-known fairytale characters depicted in an interesting realistic situation. The artwork is brilliantly vibrant and the multiple outcomes for most conversations/situations should give this good replayability too (I like to know everything, not a hardcore trophy hunter but atleast want to know all the lore/story possibilities). 5 stars and hope it gets a sequel!

6.12.2015

The game is an improvement over the PS3 version. The graphics are now 1080p and it shows. It's like candy and pops on screen. Loading times are no longer a problem. Sometimes the game often has a little stutter in places, after leaving certain areas, but nothing as bad as the PS3 version.Overall87/100%

27.11.2014

A great game, a great storyline with truly fantastic characters! Have to say I thoroughly enjoyed making moral ( and not so moral decisions) as the big bad wolf. Like others on here though I do have one gripe. The decisions you make doesn't really affect the ultimate outcome of the game.

11.4.2017

I absolutely love this game and it's story is amazing. Quite a few times you really feel for the characters and there's a few surprises to the point where I didn't see it coming even from a mile away. Quite a few twists which I thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommended.
