I bought the Katy Perry edition of this game, but I wanted to let others know about the content of Showtime and apart from two downloadable lots I couldn't download...I basically have this version of the game minus a download:Installing the game was no problem on vista, requiring the serial code just like the base game, the problem for me came with the start of the game. As soon as the game loads and you want to enter a neighbourhood or saved game you are prompted to log in online. Of course you can refuse and continue without logging in but I found this an annoyance as every single time you load a game it prompts you.The new online features I haven't tried but this expansion went crazy in trying to make sure everyone goes online. When you click on memories to look at them you can't just tick the box that you are done viewing them, you have to press the x to go back to your game or the game will try to post that sim's memory on facebook. The online features in this game allow your sims to go into another player's game, at least for a short while, more on that in a moment, first to the gameplay. The sims showtime is actually a great expansion pack if you ignore all the obsessive online prompting. Showtime introduces the idea of sims being able to be on stage as either singers, acrobats or magicians. If you have the late night expansion pack installed then there will be opportunities for sims to gain fame stars which helps if you want to introduce stars into any neighbourhood that isn't Bridgeport.Sims start out their new career at the bottom and have to perform for tips in public before being able to perform on stage at venues. There are various types of venues and for those that already have saved neighbourhoods, the game will prompt you to place a bunch of these venues before starting your game. The game will also turn several NPC sims into magicians, singers and acrobats so you can see them on stage if you visit a venue. The gameplay for showtime is actually very fun. I really enjoyed the acrobat career and the magician's career when asking audience on stage to help, but the game automatically brings more lag with all the extra features as there are constant contests at venues and the game lags as it's trying to find NPC sims to perform there and often creates new NPC sims just for that purpose (and of course the more NPC sims the more laggy the game becomes). The game DOES come with a new neighbourhood though. If you don't want to start a sim off by scratch then you can load the new neighbourhood which has different performing sims at different levels of their careers. The neighbourhood actually is like a sim copy of Hollywood and to go with the new Hollywood/LA style neighbourhood there are a lot more dishes that sims can prepare. Every dish that had meat or fish can now have a tofu alternative, great for vegetarian sims! And there are a few new dishes to come with this expansion.SimPort is a new feature that allows your performing sims to go away for a while into another player's game, perform there and come back levelled up in their career. You don't actually see your sims performing there but apparently your sim disappears for a few hours then returns. You can also host sims which means importing them to perform at a venue from another player's game. Of course to do any of this you have to be online and logged in while playing your game. I haven't tried this feature so I can't comment on how well it works.THE BAD:Although the idea of SimPort seems great, and maybe it is there is one thing that I'm very upset and even angry about with this feature. And that is that a lot of the stage prop items that come with the expansion are ONLY accessible if you send your sim through simport. For example there is a set of chess pieces for the stage but you can only have access to 2 of them when you install the game, and if you are a strictly offline player like me, you will never be able to get the other pieces as they can only be unlocked through simport. The game has a LOT of pieces locked like this and it's unfair for offline players. The game also assumes that you have people online with to send your sim to and with the sims 4 now out the amount of people able to simport with will slowly decrease, a big negative for me.The game also keeps creating wishes for sims such as 'Host a Magician at Coffee House' this means your sims want to host or import a sim from another player to that venue. An annoying wish I keep having to delete as again I play this game offline.Despite the bad I still give this game a 5 for fun as it really is a lot of fun to play and a great expansion for those that missed the sims superstar from the original sims series!Limited Edition extras: This additional content is only available through download and my game featured a download code which expired a year after I bought the game, so beware a this download may no longer be available, there wasn't anything offline I could download unlike in the sims medieval so unless the downloads work you might be better off buying the plain version of Showtime, unless you can be sure that the downloads are still available years later.

It seems that EA have been trying to revive some of our favourites from previous Sims series and this is just another that many of us couldn't wait to get back. With a bit of a mixture between Makin Magic and Superstar we can re-enter the world of the rich and famous. So here's what I loved, and unfortunately what it's lacking:I love that we have the opportunity to develop our sims into celebrities now - proper ones, not just the ones we seem to be able to accidentally create now by having lots of friends. There are a number of new careers available including a magician, singer, DJ and acrobat all of which can be accessed using the "Find a Profession" option on the computer (something I wish I'd known before searching the newspaper for jobs everyday!).There are also a few new things to cook, and recipes to read, and there seems to be a bit more focus on the vegetarian options as now we can buy recipes for those too. As with most expansions there are also a number of new traits, although not many, and new lifetime aspirations to purchase with our lifetime points and lifetime wishes to choose for our sims. What's also great is the new online aspects. Now at first I was a little apprehensive about this option since I'm not really interested in playing online with other users but actually there's a lot more to this. You might be familiar with some of the "Community Pages" on the Sims3 website which allow players to share ideas and so on, well basically some of the ideas being passed around were challenges to try and accomplish within your game (nothing serious, just something to aim for whilst playing). But now, you actually win achievements for completing different things within the game. These achievements show up as badges which you can look at whilst playing on your player profile page (From what I can tell you have to be logged in to look at this but thats no trouble since you log in once the game starts playing - this is optional so you dont have to). I really like these achievements, there are absolutely tons of them and I particularly like having a purpose whilst playing. I'd liken it to the photography skill where you need to take certain photos in order to tick off parts of the photography journal. So what else can this online feature do? Well if you have friends within the Sims3 community you can now send your sim (via the simport, a new easy to use feature) into their world to perform (as a magician lets say), whilst performing they are said to be "on tour" and can unlock certain achievements which go into your "tour album". This is great if you have a few online buddies but really it's an add on I don't picture many people using. What else did I like? The new venues are nice. It's a bit like the late night expansion where finally you can enter the venues and control your sim but this time you can also change the stage for your performer to look exactly how you'd like. You also can control, if you want to, the tricks and so on that your performer is enacting at the time. This is a great feature, for so long players have complained that we have limited control of our sims whilst they work and now, the professional sims, we can control whilst they work. But unfortunately there are a few set backs. Although I like the new costumes we can use for our performers (which we can customise too) I do feel like, considering this is an expansion pack, we haven't been given much new. The new hairstyles really are a let down, with the exception of maybe one or two at a push. As for new outfits, there really aren't any, just the performing ones which you can only access once you've unlocked them within the game as a specific performer.Overall though, a really nice expansion pack. I'm glad that I've not wasted my money as I have been disappointed with EA a few times now due to boring expansions or stuff packs. I would recommend this as a great career expansion for your sims, hope this has been useful to someone.

The Sims 3 Showtime expansion adds a lot of new content to the game. There's a new neighbourhood "Starlight Shores" which contains new performance venues and of course new sim families. You can now perform as a D.J, singer, acrobat or magician (personally I think the latter is the most fun). You can use existing venues or build your own - there's a big new range of stage props etc. There is now a new "Performance" tab in the clothing menu, with new stage outfits & make-up to use for your shows.Start your career by performing for tips and as your skills and performance abilities improve, you can get gigs at local venues by using the "audition" interaction on the proprietor of the venue,if you impress them they will give you a gig date which will be recorded in the "gig schedule" tab which has been added to the career section of your sim panel. If you have a gig scheduled you can visit the venue up to two hours before the show to prepare your stage. Just click on the stage & you can choose props, lighting, special effects machines etc for your performance - if you like your set, you can save it for future use (props can be bought & stored in your inventory or just used for the show). When your performance actually starts (usually lasts 2-3 hours), you can click on the stage and/or your sim to choose which actions they will use to dazzle the audience (bubbles sometime appear above the heads of the audience showing what they'd like to see/hear). You can also change the special effects and background music throughout your performance.Other new features include, new lifetime wishes & happiness rewards, new skills (golfing & pool) and new character traits. As well as new objects, a few old favourites like the mechanical bull and the D.J booth have returned.Haven't tried out the much heralded new social features yet, but apparently you can now "simport" your sims into other players games to perform at their venues (earns extra rewards). You can find new "friends" via an internet linked search box that can be accessed in-game via the options menu (look for the simport tab).No instruction manual is included, but the in-game tips are helpful to newcomers to the game. Finally it's a good idea to make sure that your system meets the spec before you buy the game, you can use the Can You Run it website to check. So many people experience freezes, crashes or distorted graphics with new sims games, and it's often because they don't have enough RAM or their graphics card isn't up to scratch (though I must admit that EA games is notoriously slow to patch glitches & bugs). I've had no problems so far, but the odd crash isn't unusual with sims games so remember to do regular saves. All in all a worthwhile expansion pack that adds a lot of fun to the original game.

If you're a fan of The Sims and have pretty much all of the expansions, then this is great for your collection. However, if you're a newbie then there's not much quality content in here (which is probably why EA felt it necessary to add the social networking aspects) so I'd recommend starting off with something which adds A LOT MORE to your game like Pets or Ambitions. That's not to say Showtime isn't a great addition, because it is. The singer career is especially fun although the sing-a-gram thing is tedious and it takes A WHILE to build up job experience for the next promotion :/There's not much new content/new interactions, but the fact that you can be more involved in your sims careers compensates for that.I just wish there were less rabbit holes in the game and that you could be more involved in all the careers, but oh well.Anyway, this is a good game overall and I ADORE the new neighbourhood. In my opinion it's the best one yet, better even than Downtown. It has a great mix of clubs and rodeo bars and karoke bars and diners. Plus I love that they added a beach building where you can go and play pool and have a drink, rather than just having a bit of sand like in all the other neighbourhoods. And the local park is fantastic, with a stage and a pond and just a much better layout than the boring local parks in the other expansions. There's also a separate kids park with climbing frames and such, which I thought was a very nice touch. All in all the neighbourhood just has a very nice feel to it and is very varied and I honestly feel like the town itself is the best part of Showtime. That being said I have one issue and it's an issue I've had with a lot of Sims games: crashing and freezing. The game will have the dreaded (and more often than not unsolvable) 'Error code 12/13' pop up which prevents a save and sometimes it will just crash and shut down. I didn't experience the random crashing in previous expansions, but it seems to be common with this one. EA has a habit of releasing glitchy games and then even glitchier patches, so I'd just recommend saving often. It's tedious, but there you go.All in all a great game and the annoying bugs/glitches are the only reason it doesn't have 5 stars

This game is amazing. At first I wasn't going to buy it as it seemed a lot like Late Night but it is completely different. The new careers are really good, I especially like the magician and singer careers. The costumes that your sims wear are really nice and I like that you can choose a costume / outfit to wear instead of the original career outfit you are assigned (though you have to create a new outfit, you can't customise the career outfit itself). The only problem I found is when I had a gig at a place, when I started a little bit before the time set, even if it was just a few minutes, it didn't say I had completed the gig and it stayed on the schedule until I performed the week after, but I found if I just left my sim at the place, they would automatically start setting up and then it would remove it from the schedule when the gig was finished (if it was a one time gig). Overall a great game :)

I am a massive sims fan and after getting slightly bored with my other expansions i wanted something new and this didnt fail to impress.. all new people, and a brand new town which is pretty cool loads of palm trees and the beach, in a hollywood theme. The houses are sweet and there's a few mansions too :'D i have only tried the singer profession, it does take abit of time and dedication but it is worth it! 11,700 for just one gig at later stages. the sims have all all new things to do like the driving range, pool table, dj booths, domino tables and a few new games..i haven't managed to try the simport feature, but it seems fine. loads of nice furniture too.. it doesn't come with an instruction book but it's easy to use.sorry its long but i tried to include alot. overall AMAZING game

If you like the Sims 3 series then you will probably like this. I got this as I have all the rest. It is fun but somewhat limiting. You have the 3 new careers, singer, magician and acrobat. DJ is not a career option but more like the bar tending thing in late night. You progress through the careers very quickly and cannot simport you sim out unless you have 2 sims in your houshold, so if you like starting off a game with one sim on a large plot (legacy game) and you do intend to simport, these 3 careers are not really an option till you have a second adult in your household. Simport also doesn't always work out. I found it fun but getting boring as the novelty wears off.

When this expansion was announced I can't say I was that excited about it. It was going to be the first ever sims expansion pack that I didn't intend on buying.Still, I read some reviews and saw some videos and my interest was caught. I bought the game and looked forward to it's arrival.I must say that I am enjoying it a great deal! I love the neighborhood and the families in it. The new careers are fun but they aren't what makes it so great.I had looked forward to the pet expansion so much but I'm ashamed to say that it wans't as captivating as this one. I'm glad I made the purchase. Money well spent.

Such a good game! i'm really into performing so this was right up my street! Even though the game doesn't come with a manual if you've played The Sims 3 before you can pick it up pretty easily. My first person was an acrobat and you can get gigs at bars and theatres etc...when you perform the gig you just keep an eye on what the audience reaction is and it will show you what trick to do next. Really good game overall! I highly recommend it!

I bought this game assuming it was as said in picture and in title "sims 3 showtime LIMITED edition" , this is not what i received, i received just the game without limited content,, slightly dissapointed but, it's still an AMAZING and it's not like it costed anymore than the usual addition :D

13.3.2012

This game is amazing!! Would highly recommend, not one of the best expansion packs but it definitely enhances the gaming experience and adds lots more opportuinities for you and your sims making it more realistic and giving something new to the sims 3.

2.5.2012

The game is very addictive as all sims games are but I find that going from one action to another with characters can take a while which is a bit frustrating. But overall the game isn't bad & I would recommend people to buy it.

This is an excellent expansion pack for Sims 3 by far. It goes well alongside the previous expansion pack that lets you send your children away to boarding school. (which is a blessing).
