I'll write this review for people like me - gameheads who have played games like Roger Daltry played pinball but whilst hearing of "The Sims" had never played any variant before this.Firstly loading - I have an unmodded emachine laptop and it loaded first time no problems. It DOES pause at 99% for the best part of a minute however so I'd advise sitting back and being patient. There are only two discs - the game disc and the bonus disc. And at its current price of under £7.00 this game is amazingly good value.I would VERY STRONGLY advise doing the tutorials first AND watching the tutorial videos on the bonus disc before starting. The latter isn't just for technical skills - the designers who narrate the tutorials are clearly in love with their creation and their enthusiasm is infectious. It took me some time to get my head around how the game worked. There are three "pre-set" localities - two that appear more or less normal and one modelled on a 1950s style horror/ sci fi movie set. Each locality has one Sim family in the preset bin suitable for new starters and one or two more that are more of a challenge.Saving is weird and only Sim City does anything similar. There are a number of pre-occupied homes in the game. You can click onto any of them. Once there you then control the occupants of that address. When you leave they "time freeze" until you re-load them. Each family is therefore its own separate game. Your game autosaves regularly and can be also manually saved. But each family only has one save. So if you seriously mess something up - for example I got married without having the party - you can't undo it. Most things can be remedied however - you can sell stuff you don't want, move house. The interface and how the game works isn't simple. It takes the first hour of play just to work out how to keep your Sims fed, rested, entertained, socialised, and employed. Then there's a HUGE amount of other stuff to see and do that I haven't explored most of it yet. What the game does is change the way you actually play a computer game. Most other games are task driven - some extremely so. Space Invaders - kill aliens, avoid bombs. Pac Man - eat pills, avoid ghosts. The Sims are different and that is their genius. Yes you can play the game to have your Sims as the most successful at their careers, with the biggest houses, the most clothes, the most expensive gadgets, and their children in private schools. But you don't have to. One person who's review I read had a family of freaks who kept visitors to the address in cages. Along with their son.At one point my newly engaged Sim couple were at home when the male Sim's hot ex came round to visit. I left them chatting whilst my female Sim entertained her workmate. Next instant she goes over to the male Sim and belts him around the face. I don't know what happened between him and the hot ex but the female Sim took a week and some heavy attention before she'd sleep in the same bed with him again. In a normal game reload and ask hot ex to leave before any damage is caused. In the Sims 2 - life event, enjoy the experience. In 1950s town there seems to be some battle going on with neighbours regarding stealing garden gnomes from my garden. My advice - take some time experimenting to learn your way around the game - marriage in particular is tricky to navigate if you want a party too. Then as soon as you've mastered all the basics uninstall the game and all saves and start over. Or create your own family. Or do whatever you want. You don't "win" the Sims 2. You don't even "play" it as such because "play" suggests a defined game with set objectives. It's more that you load the game and live its life vicariously for a while. One word of warning - take that 12 rating seriously. The Sims may be cute but they have a set of morals that make the "Sex and the City" girls look like anti social nuns. The Sims flirt, tell rude jokes, kiss, make out, have sex and have babies. Any child playing the game who didn't know about human reproduction before they started playing would have a far closer knowledge AFTER playing it. It isn't graphic but you do see your Sims get into bed together and kiss before there is a huge flurry of activity under the bedclothes. It looks like if they sleep in the same bed they have what looks like sex then too. I personally haven't tested out whether you can get female Sims to "make whoopee" with female Sims or male on male. My personal guess is that since female Sims can DEFINITELY flirt with female Sims they probably can.S.x.

The first thing I noticed about this game is the great improvement over the original Sims. The pack is awesome, it has the Nightlife, and the Celebration Stuff Expansions. They really add a lot to the game. Visually the game is brilliant, very captivating, and you can spent hours customizing it to look just like you imagine it. You start off by choosing your neighborhood, and here you have three ready ones, or you can make your own from scratch. Then you can start making your own sim, you can choose everything, from hear color, to jaw width, skin tone, makeup, absolutely everything. This is a really fun part, and probably the most enjoyable part of starting the game. Then you start building a house for your beloved sim. I am not so great at making houses, so I just chose a very basic one, and fiddled around with the options. The menu is laid out very well, I found it quite easy to navigate, choose wall types, for instance, and what kind of wallpaper I like, etc. I found it a bit confusing when it comes to furniture and rooms, cause they are a bit mixed up, but I think you can just put anything you fancy anywhere really. Then you start taking care of your Sim, meeting goals, and needs like sleeping, and eating, and showering, etc. These keep your Sim happy, and then you have to start looking for the aspiration meter and fill that up in the best way possible.I did not very much enjoy the fact that there is a lot to do, but time passes really quickly which is a shame really, if you get a job for instance, that is half a day gone, then the struggle is to try and meet all these basic needs and trying to fill the aspiration meter gets very tricky. Cause if you need to meet the hunger, hygiene, and comfort needs, that would alone take the rest of the day. So that makes it a bit repetitive, and would not leave you time to do some real fun stuff with the Sim. The expansion packs are brilliant, especially the nightlife one, you can take your sim, (you could buy a car for it), and go to a nightclub, have some fun.Really brilliant game, you can spend hours one it, and this is just this version, not to mention the other expansion packs available. I would recommend that you start off with this one, even if you have never played the Sims, this will get you hooked, and if you get bored of it, which I doubt, you can install other expansion packs. Excellent game, and real fun.

I have been a fan of the Sims since the first ever game was released, and I have tried every version, but I tend to always come back to playing the Sims 2. I feel it's the better out of all four versions.I already owned this a while back, but then updated my laptop to Windows 8 which I discovered wasn't compatible, so I sold it (and all my other expansion packs) and, although I'm not complaining as it does come in at a close second, continued playing the Sims 4.I then happened to read the reviews and questions on this game and it said that the game was compatible on Windows 10, which I now have. I thought brilliant! I can finally get back to playing my favourite version! So you can imagine how quick I snapped it up.Now I timed how long it took me to start it up.Two and a half hours. I tried everything, I went online to find suggestions and help, but nothing seemed to be working. It loaded up perfectly fine but the houses were just black boxes with blurry plumbobs above them. When I created a sim it wouldn't let me customise their hair or clothes. There must have been a solution as a few people had commented here that it did indeed work on Windows 10.Finally, light at the end of the tunnel. I switched compatibility mode to Windows 98 (almost twenty years ago) and it worked fine. Except when I clicked anything the screen would go black, and I had to Ctrl-Alt-Del to start it back up again, but I soon solved that problem too by launching up another program on my desktop, closing that program (not The Sims) down, fired up The Sims again and it was fine. I have to do this every time I start the game but it only takes five seconds and compared to the hours I spend playing, that's peanuts. So I am again a happy Simmer and have realised just how much I do enjoy The Sims 2 much more than the others. Even after the time it took for me to finally get it playing again.I understand this is a bit of an essay of a review. But I feel that I needed to note down how I resolved the issues in case someone wonders about the compatibility with Windows 10. It could save that person two and a half hours! Thanks for reading.

The Sims 2. How can i even begin to write a review? This game, even 10 years on, is fantastic. For this price, it is truly spectacular. When i think about, it i get tears in my eyes. There is such depth, quirkiness, entertainment and joy in this game.If you've never played before, you make a family. You build them a house. You play. It is so fun. I often have spells of playing the sims every day, then don't touch the game for months, then i start playing again. It's easy to pick up. I've been playing this game for years, i had to buy this because i broke my computer and lost my disk. For fans of the sims 3, you may be disappointed. The game doesn't have a lot of the 'technical' things in the sims 3,e.g. changing colours of stuff to your own chosen colours, claiming a sim's bed, cancelling newspaper delivery, opportunities, having an open world, and your sims age at different times. But other things make up for these differences - the nannies are more realistic than babysitters, it's less glitchy, the sims look less 'doughy'. It will probably run faster and the clothes are nicer. So yeah. I love this game, but if you're a fan of the sims 3, make your choice.

I had originally bought this game for my 12 year old daughter. She spent a long time on it every day and she said I should give it a try, I wasn't too sure about this because the other sims game I had played with her wasn't that good (Sims 2, psp). I tried this one and I loved it! It is much more realistic than the other one, you can choose:1. Your sims clothes, including: Formal, casusal, PJs, Swimsuits and more!2. You can even go on dates with an other sim!3. You can take the taxi and go to places!4. You can get your sims pregnant!5. It is absouletly HILARIOUS! I was keeled over laughing at most of the stuff my daughter showed me (especially when her date went wrong and she got slapped by the sim!)6.It also has 2 added packs to it which gives you a load more to do!And lots more!I recommend this to anyone who loves a funny game, and it has a few different story modes to it. It is an amazing game, you should buy it straight away even if you are an adult it is still really funny and a fantasctic buy! you really won't regret buying this game!

Even now, with all the hype surrounding The Sims 3, the second The Sims installment remains my favourite, simply for its customization options and simplicity. Sure, it may not have a living neighbourhood, nor Rabbitholes of Doom, but it sure is fun. I would, however, recommend purchasing it along with Seasons and Mansion and Garden Stuff, which make this game even more fun.It includes the awful Stuff Pack, Celebrations!, which is, however, excellent for special occasions like weddings and birthdays. It also includes the original The Sims 2 game, which is amazingly complete, and the Nightlife expansion pack, which allows you to take your pixelated dolls/slaves to Downtown SimCity for a night out.Did I mention it includes Vampires?

This game is genious! I've played many versions of this game on different platforms and I have to say Sims 2 on the PC is the best version. The amount of families/people you can have in a neighbourhood is phenominal (as compared to the 4 sets of 4 on the PS2). I cannot begin to think the amount of hours I've spent playing this game - it's addictive! I love making the sims, decorating the houses and making the sims interact with each other. I'd recommend buying this for your son/daughter as its a clever way of setting in ideal social norms such as the career ladder and morals concerning relationships. If you're considering buying this game, why haven't you bought it already?! BUY BUY BUY!

This is the first SIMS game I have purchased. I only got this version because the graphics card on my PC won't support SIMS 3.I have previously purchased games such as Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 and 3 & Zoo Tycoon 2 and I think I do prefer those games to SIMS 2. Although SIMS 2 is still a very addictive game, and I find that hours pass by very quickly when playing this game.I can't comment on any improvements on SIMS as I have never played the earlier version.Overall, I consider this was a good purchase and I keep playing it, so it can't be that bad!

Great game! I own alot of sims games for PS2, DS, WII, XBOX 360, IPHONE but the PC version is by far the best and the sims 2 double deluxe is 3 great games in one!Doulble deluxe has the normal sims 2 game, sims 2 night life and sims 2 celerbration stuff. In the pc version you can get expansion packs to expand your sims world. You can get married, have kids, buy a car, go on holiday, open your own shops, go to university and the list goes on (if you have the right expansion packs). Amazing! Well worth the money! would defiantly recommend.

Not to rehash what has already been said, but it is a very addictive and fun simulator. The real catch as opposed to the Sims 3 is that there seems to be more depth in the gameplay, which is what it is about at the end of the day. However, it is not the most beautiful Sims, and visually I don't feel it compares to the 3rd instalment. As an overall package though it is really good, and the fact that the extensions are mostly cheap means it has good replayability as you won't be breaking your wallet in order to have fun.

This game is wonderful, but a word of warning,if buying the Double Deluxe version, make sure the person you are buying from includes all the disks.I have ordered this twice, only to have it show up with only the preview DVD-no game,no expansion packs.Avoid disappointment CHECK.I don't know if there should be 3 or 4 disks(expansion packs may be on one disk for all I know)but the packaging does not make this clear, the seller can make a genuine mistake cos it says DVD on the front.

27.8.2012

This is a really fun game and really quick to install. I prefer this game to the sims 3 because its a lot simpler to use and overall more fun. With the double deluxe you also get 'nightlife' which gives you another neighbourhood where your sims can live, becomes vampire and now cars are avalible, and 'H+M fashion' where you get loads of new clothes and you can put H+M stores in your neighbourhood. If you don't want a really complicated game then you should get the sims 2.

If you are looking for a game that you will enjoy for years and years upon yourself, this game is for you. I decided to buy the whole collection when it came out almost a whole decade ago, but recently sold it - but bought it all back! I loved it so much, I can't let this game out of my life. It's physically amazing. I prefer it compared to the sims 3, but sims 4 comes out later in 2014, so hopefully, it's even better. Great game to pass the time!

25.4.2014

I ordered this as I used to love playing it.I was nervous it wouldn't work on my rubbish laptop (Toshiba, Windows 7) but it's quick and great graphics. The extra packs it comes with are great and you can visit neighbour hood parks/restaurants.installation was quick, only approx 20 minutes.Need to watch the clock however as you get carried away playing for hours.Great little game if you computers not good enough for the Sims 3!

I'd never played the Sims game until recently. I was at a friends house when i first discovered it and instantly became hooked. I knew i had to get it. Not having much experience with it i decided to get Sims 2 instead of Sims 3. It is so much fun creating families and the houses for them to live in. Giving them jobs and getting them to school. It's easily addictive, I've spent many an hours playing it. I'm very happy with it.
