I'm hooked on this game - not in a small way but seriously, seriously hooked. I've spent the best part of today playing it and have only come away from it to spend some time with my wife - darn this Valentines day malarkey! - and write this quick point by point list of the good and bad of this outrageously gruesome little gem, and hopefully that'll help you decide if HOTD:O is worth your time, money, not to mention yout skills with a hand cannon!THE GOOD:- Addictive beyond compare - if you're a high score junky then you'll be in seventh heaven, if you're a gore hound: likewise, and if you're into collecting and unlocking virtual trinkets then you'll be right at home too.For a light gun game there is a heck of a lot to do.- Satisfyingly chunky head shots (and all other shots too), hugely visceral - it'll have the teenager in you screaming to get out and have a go! A very, very bloody business it is!- At time the humor is actually spot on and it gave me a little giggle once or twice.- The Grindhouse movie feel is spot on and not just an aping of Tarantino's homage - although there is a bit of that too, which is okay.- The controls are spot on and can be calibrated to suite!- The hand cannon available for the game is one of the best peripherals I've used for the system thus far.- The graphics are above and beyond what we wii owners are used to and I'm quite proud to have this game sit side by side with my 360 games.- A good change of pace from the usual wii-centric kiddy games choc full of gimmicks and mini games, and probably the most fun I've had with my Wii since Mario Galaxy.- Some of the themes make you wince more than once or twice, this could be a good or bad thing depending on the player but you wouldn't be playing a game called house of the dead: overkill if you weren't ready for some sickness, right?- Varla Guns - sweet.- The Soundtrack is pure funky genius - great old sleazy grindhouse style tunes that have now become synonymous with Tarantino movies. Also there's a few pumping tunes for boss fights and more frantic sections but all roll up into a tasty musical picnic for the earholes.- Some sick, if slightly easy, bosses - the screamer is quite terrifying.- Brilliant little touches and attention to detail.THE BAD:- The swearing, although I understand it's part of the whole grindhouse experience and the characters traits, first wears a little thin then gets a bit embarrassing - after one play through I'm sure you'll be slamming past the cut-scenes to dodge the silly excess as I did.- There can be a slight loading time split second pause that makes you, on the odd occasion, miss your shot and loose your flow, but this doesn't happen enough for it to become a problem - also it can sometimes work in your favor in lining up a shot so it sort of levels out.- Some of the taboos that get knocked about may offend some people - I enjoyed them for their cheekiness but some may just be left aghast.- The unlockable weapons are massively overpowered - but you'll find that they're useful for getting those golden brains, but as far as high scores go i tend to use the traditional ams magnum for proper skills.CONCLUSIONI Love this game and don't see how anyone couldn't, sure it's puerile but it's got all the fun of the fair, and more! Guns, blood, wicked soundtrack, Varla Guns and some good laughs - Enjoy!

HOTD overkill - what can I say....It is a total big lump of stupid, childish gore-filled fun... which you just can't help but laugh at!Now with that out of way, let's look at why.Firstly, the game play itself... now, to be fair this is TRIED AND TESTED formula for games... the HOTD series hasn't really moved forward play-wise since the beginning. Having said that, despite it being a 'simple on-rails shoot em up' it does this very well. Using some nice touches of the unique Wii remote (shaking it to get some bad guys off and reload or being able to use the 'chuck to reload and select weapons).Other nice touches are the overall look to the game - that gritty, seedy grindcore look to the presentation (the intro screens are a particularly good example of this) and the video clips cut to scenes do keep the sense of pace and sustain the tone of the game well. There's also some nice features - such as the gun aim calibration, which although not pixel perfect... it does help to notably improve the accuracy and tracking, which does help where good aim is really needed (rescuing civilians for example).Other nice features include the slo-mo'fo system - shooting these green glowing items will slow the game so everything can be seen in 'matrix-like' detail... when one of these is active, head shots (instant kills) seem especially. rewarding... Dual wield is a really nice feature - allowing one player to blast away with 2 guns at once with 2 remotes (dual assault riles are REALLY satisfying). However, like every single game ever released - it's not perfect. It can be argued that it is a bit too short for a long-term interest game. For the standard start to finish basic game, this is very true.... however they have tried to address this with some locked extra features - which can only be obtained by getting high scores, or by completing some scenarios under specific circumstances (time/weapon used/bonuses picked up and so on). There are occasions where the way things appear is glitchy which makes it feel a bit rushed sometimes (zombie/mutant arrives in distance only to pop up a second later in your face doors suddenly appear or vanish). Also - if you don't like foul language and f-bombs being thrown around like candy at Halloween... avoid this game mo-fo! You can't switch it off so this is not a game for kids(then again, would you really want to let kids play a game where you have to shoot undead mutants into piles of quivering red goo?).So in conclusion, a good game - with a good 'banned video nasty' feel to it... but with some limitations for a long-view purchase and limited for serious hard-core gaming fans.

It's taken a while, but the Wii is finally starting to pull some punches, with SEGA leading the way in this superb adaption of the classic House of the Dead series from arcades fame. Both as spectacle and as a complete game, Overkill is one of the finest titles on the Wii to date. In sticking firmly to its light-gun heritage, Overkill is does not however limit itself to the genes of its publisher's other shooters - the fun but very very short Ghost Squad and House of the Dead compilations. What players get instead is long, gory and satisfying single player campaign, a hammy but entertaining plot and - crucially for an online shooter - a heck of a lot of replayability.By now many people will have heard about Overkill's grimy grind-house-esque graphical style. It's very striking and is supported by not only some very nice lighting and level-design (use your hd tv mind), but an eclectic and I'm sure, award-winning, soundtrack of beats, funk and elctro-rock. Production wise then, its spot on.Of course gameplay is what keeps the player engaged and Overkill delivers. It may not boast the FPS style environment deformation of its main competitor, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, but it trumps this title in almost every other way. Cross-hair calibration is spot on, the weapon selection is small but balanced, and most importantly, the Zombies (sorry, 'mutants') make brilliant targets. Bringing down a wave of enemies with shots to the knees, and then finishing off stragglers with ehadshots adds a thick tactical element, and with decent real-time limb blasting makes, the shooting part is exhilirating fom start to finish.Boasting an impressive 3-5 hour campaign (at least for a lightgun game) the longevity of the title is boosted significantly by a longer director's cut version on available on completion, co-op, highscores, weapon upgrading and a gloriously villent dual-wield option. If there's one major problem that will put people off, its the dialogue. It frequently oversteps bad taste, and not at all in the ironic way it was intended, so you may well find yourself skipping cringe-worthy cutscenes on replays. On top of this, the bosses too are a little disspointing, and lacking perhaps the intensity of the rock-hard encouters of RE:UC.Overall though, this is a must have title for all wii-owners, whether they like shooters or not. Its great to see SEGA support the console in such a strong way, and in buying this, hopefully amazon customers will not only be getting a no-holds barred package, but they can encourage other games publishers produce more top-notch titles for wii.

Right, first things first. House of the Dead - Overkill has got to be THE best looking game out on the Wii ever. So many people have always whined that the Wii is not a serious contender as a console, that it doesn't match up to the likes of the XBOX360 and PS3 - well - think again, doubters! Here it is, a game of massive potential with brilliant graphics and mind numbing blood gore and enough expletives to make Mary Whitehouse foam at the mouth. For the faint hearted this game is certainly not.The gameplay is addicitve, and this is a worthy follow up to its predacessors House of the Dead 2 and 3 which are immensely playable. The game is spooky, with zombies coming at you out of the dark, and there's all sorts of power ups to blast at - wierd floating green mists that slow the action down to get in a few decent headshots, golden brains to rack up the high score and of course, those all important power ups - believe me you'll need them.As mentioned, the graphics are simply astounding - definitely ranking up there with the likes of XBOX 360. The only gripe is, that the Wii notably suffers at times for this. When the action gets at its busiest, things slow and stutter a little, meaning occasionaly a shot or goodie is missed, but on the whole, they're minor gripes for a game which has really set the benchmark now for what our little Wii is capable of.This game has the added joy of three mini games, one of which is a fairground target practice affair. They're all pretty standard, and probably won't get played much as you'll be hooked on the main feature. Speaking of the game, which is themed like a movie, there's weapons upgrades to be unlocked, and you can always throw in even MORE zombies if you want to.The whole feel of the game has a Tarrantino Grindhouse feel, and the game feels more sinister than the previous two. The bad language as well obviously means your young uns shouldn't be getting their hands on it.I've played this game with the Nico Perfect shot light gun, and it works well with the game. Personally, when playing these sort of games a light gun is an absolute must.SUMMARYGraphics - Fantastic - really shows us what the Wii is capable of.Music - complements the game perfectly, adding to the tension.Playability - Pick up the light gun and start blasting - Wahay!Gameplay - This one will have you coming back for more - and more - and more!Overall - GET IT!

I've always enjoyed zombie computer games especially the Resident Evil series. This however is different. In simple terms you aim the controller (or gun if you have the attachment) at the screen and blow away everything that gets in your way. The movement is handled by the game; all you need to do is concentrate on staying alive. The gun sight helps you to aim although there is an option to turn it off for an added challenge. There are a number of levels each ending with a `boss' stage that gets harder as the game progresses. Points are awarded for accurate shooting, combo hits and picking up bonuses (which involve shooting brains bizarrely enough). You do get infinite lives but every time you die you'll lose a chunk of points which is best avoided.Points can be used to upgrade your guns or to buy new weapons which help matters on the harder levels. If you do well you'll also see your name in the rankings. In addition to the main game there are a few mini games plus a harder setting called `the director's cut' where you have more zombies to contend with plus limited lives. The game is made to appear like a low budget horror film and it certainly looks like one (in a good way). Everything about it is quite extreme; the story, the violence and the swearing leave little to the imagination. It certainly won't appeal to everyone and those more accustomed to the more family orientated Wii games might be shocked.I've enjoyed this game most when friends come round for a few drinks and we play the multiplayer mode. Although you work as a team you can try to beat each other by getting the most points and bonuses. It's a lot of fun.I have to agree with a lot of other people about the swearing. Although this game is meant to be crude I found the amount of swearing a bit too excessive and there is no option to turn it off. Also, it might have been nice to have more levels as it doesn't take long to complete.Having said that it does have replay value and it will no doubt remain a multiplayer favourite. I've yet to upgrade all my weapons or find all the hidden items so it's keeping me busy. I can't imagine this game being better on any other console as the Wii has the perfect control system for this kind of thing.

I am, as far a gamers go, a total wimp and light weight. I love the simple more childish games (e.g. Samba de Amigos, Da Blob, mariokarts), I don't get off on high scores and I think resident evil is deeply scary.I love this game.1) It is simple to play, the controls are easy to pick up even if you can't be bothered with reading the manual (which you should by the way, it's a hoot and sets the tone of the game really well).2) The script is funny, a couple of reviews mentioned the large amount of swearing - yes there is but I laughed out loud during scenes at the end of the levels (loved the icecream van sequence). Afterall a whole lot of brain hungry mutants are trying to eat these guys; 'oh dear'and 'oopsy daisy' doesn't really cover it. It is worth keeping your ears pined back to hear the asides while the shooting is going on.3)It is pretty easy to kick mutant butt (or rather shoot in the leg (my aim ain't so good)). You don't control the progress through the level (i.e. run around), the game does it for you and presents you with your targets, something like duck shoot - with bloody mouths and missing limbs (after I missed their heads and guts a few times).4)Slo-Mo-Fo, oh yes, you can slow down the action to appreciate the aforementioned bloody maul in all its technicolour (predominantly red) glory.5)Because it is so easy you get highly competitive (me and my partner nearly took our wii-motes to each other arguing over stealing each others targets) and start going for more impressive stuff. I myself have given up the automatic shotgun in favour for a souped up magnum - it is harder to get a combo, but I get to be Dirty Harry. This didn't get a five star simply because the graphics are a bit shonky (doesn't interfer with game play) and playing as a pair is great fun but the options are limited (you equip with the same weapons for example). This is game that will appeal to anyone who fancies trying something without a musical instrument but isn't a hard core gamer. It is easy to pick up, nearly impossible to put down.

Imagine, a hoard of zombies rushing towards you and you blasting them to bits with your shotgun, what's not to like! This must be the best light gun game I've ever played. In this wii version you get the basic "story mode", "director cut" and a few of mini games. The story mode contains 7 chapters; each chapter have you blasting zombies away in different locations, from a hospital all the way to a prison facility. And as you progress, you earn cash to buy and upgrade weapons. Completing the story mode is pretty easy because you have infinitely "lives". Each time you die, you can just continue from there, and the only penalty is that you lose 1/2 of your current score.Once you have completed the "story mode",you will unlock the "director cut". In the "director cut" you play the same 7 chapters again, but this time each chapter is longer (exploring areas that weren't in the story mode) and more zombies! And ti make thing more interesting, the cash and weapons that you accumulated in story mode aren't carried over to the director cut. And you no longer have infinite "lives", you get 3 lives on each chapter.I find the director cut mode to be alot better compared to the story mode. So I would recommend that you don't spent too much time on the story mode, just complete it quickly (forget about getting high score or upgrading weapon, all you need is the magnum and the basic shotgun to do the job here). Once you unlock the director cut, you can get serious on high score and upgrading weapons and have lots of fun :)Anything bad about the game? Well, it has been said before, the frame rate can sometimes be rather erratic and that's all. Oh, definitely NOT for under 18s, the gore and violence in one thing, but the level of profanity is outrageous.Best enjoyed with a light gun or wii zapper.

There are some poor things about this game, but ultimately they are mostly masked by the groteque amounts of blood and morally offensive dialogue... which is a good thing. The first thing you notice when beginning the game is that the calibration of the Wii Remote in the options simply doesn't work. Aiming at the targets in the corner of the screen either brings up the message, "Please aim your Wii Remote at the screen" or results in calibrating the target a mile off to the left of where you are pointing. The target also seems to get stuck or slow down when aiming at the top quarter of the screen - fortunately none of this really affects the gameplay. The cut scenes are quite amusing and can be skipped quickly if required, but they are all presented with graphics reminicient of fifth or sixth generation consoles - really quite poor. However, the enemies look very nasty (although endlessly duplicated) and it's great fun systematically taking them apart with the various weaponry at your disposal (although you may find yourself sticking solely to the auto-shotgun if you want to hit them high scores). And that is basically the theme of all eight levels - ploughing through hoardes of zombies until you make it to a gloriously unsightly mess of a boss and plugging them full of holes where you are told to shoot them.Criticism could be aimed at how one-dimensional the game is (although it is an on-rails FPS), how easy and short the game is as a whole (even the bosses are a piece of gory cake!) and the poor graphics. But, to be honest, if you want something you can pick up and play, on your own or with an equally deranged and sadistic friend, with no thinking and lots of killing then here you go, you crazy horse! This is the most mess you can make without getting into trouble with someone's mum.

I have to say this is my favourite game on he Wii by quite a way and also the best light-gun game I think I have ever played! The original House of the Dead games were good fun, but were very short taking around 30mins to complete the whole game in the case of House of the Dead2. This game builds on the best bits of the series and then re-invents itself with a cheesey 70's grindhouse make-over. It really works though, the story pokes fun at itself and is quite funny even with the over the top story and swearing. You get 7 big levels including a hospital, train and Prison to shoot through. These each take a good 15-20 mins to get through and longer still in the directors cut.Thankfully you can choose to play any level in any order once you have completed that level. There are some great boss designs even if they are a little easy to beat. A whole armoury of weapons to buy and upgrade from magnums, Shotguns, Machine guns and something very special once you complete both modes!! Once you do this you can also unlock the dual-wield option for even more fun and add more mutants to the levels. There are tons of things to unlock in terms of artwork, models for the game as well to add to the replay value. Then on top of all that you have 3 mini games which are quite good which can have up to 4 players! Overall it adds up to the best light gun game we have seen in years, it's very satisfying to shoot a mutant, not zombie, with the shotgun reducing it to meaty chunks! Lock and load and fire at will!!!

I think the point of this game is to give the user endless hours of zombie-killing fun. It doesn't take itself too seriously and is certainly not meant to be taken that way. How much you enjoy the game will very much depend on your expectations. Take it as a zombie-slaughtering arcade style game and you'll enjoy it, think of it as the sequel to Mario Galaxy and you'll be very much disappointed. The game's storyline itself is relatively short and is easily completed in a few hours. The plot is pretty poor but remember it's a zombie game. What is good about the game is its excellent replay value. You'll be returning to missions time and time again to improve your score and get more cash, which allows you to buy more or upgrade your weaponry. There is also the additional Director's Cut version which is unlocked after completing the standard missions. This version includes many additional scenes as well as more zombies to shoot. This is a good addition to the game and somewhat makes up for the short story. Further, there are multi-player games which add to the fun of the game.My main gripe with the game is the excessive swearing which really does start to annoy you after a while. Thankfully you can skip through the annoying clips after you complete the missions.Overall this is a genuinely fun game for those just looking to spend some time blowing zombies' heads off. The good points far out-way the bad and I'd recommend you buy it.

When people think Nintendo in anyway, shape or form the thought of bright cuddly family orientated games that children will hoot in pleasure at playing. Well until recently (like Game Cube times, recent) They seem to be turning a little toward the adult market as well. And here is one... House of the Dead: Overkill.Presented in the style of the Grindhouse films (Planet Terror comes to mind) the game is bloody and fully charged with testoterone, just look at the intro and you'll see. The ability to have a veriaty of weapons rather than just stuck with one like in the previous arcade sequels is great just take your pick between the M16 or Riot Shotgun, take aim and watch those zombies become bloody gibbs on your screen,oh yeah! The atmosphere of the levels is engageing and the cut-scenes are twisted and gross just like any exploitation cinema. But that adds to the little gripe I have with the game and that is the constant need to drop F Bombs in every bit of dialogue that's spoken... just seems way too tacked on. But then again why do we wanna hear people talking when we should be blasting a fresh bloody hole in the next line-up of zombies. All in all this one is a definite addition to your Wii collection, just don't let the kids, who are too used to the cute and cuddly side of Nintendo, play it or they'll be having Nintendo nightmares and be saying the F word in every sentence they speak... which will become very annoying.

I really love these shoot em up type games, and I think that this particular zombie blast-fest is the best one so far on the Wii.Yes the swearing is stupid and completely unnecessary, but who really cares eh lol. Especially when you can turn the sound off and just blast the hell away in total silence!.This does have enough gameplay to keep it interesting, rather than it being a random shooting and/or pressing the fire button repeatedly type strategy. It has more options as well like choice of weapons, which can do various damage and there are certain bonuses you can shoot during the game that will temporarily affect the gameplay.Shooting the zombies in various parts of the body affects the points scoring, and the most important part of the game is that it rewards you for rarely missing shots. This means that its not just a simple point and fire game, you need to hit the targets consistently without any misses, so it makes you think more about what you are doing. And if you add the amazing looking hand cannon blaster gun to the mix as well, this makes it the BEST shoot em up game Ive ever seen. There are some negative points to the game of course, but as I like it that much I dont really want to talk about them anyway. These negative bits dont really affect my enjoyment of the game anyway and thats why i'd give it such a positive rating.

This game is awesome arrived on release day which was nice from amazon, played it to death (excuse the pun) since then, this is a quality game with very nice production values the graphics are the best ive seen on the wii and really shows what the litle white box can do,the music in game I usually mute but the tunes in this game are so great I want the sountrack cd!The story is good and very cheesy but in an intentional way and there are a few homages to famous films (The Birds is one of them) The witty dialogue was a joy too and really injects humour into this grisly gore filled game.If your a certain age like me and just like arcade thrills and high score chasing this is the game and thisreally makes the typically short life of on the rails shooters much more durable. With lots of unlockables and weapon upgrades the designers have really tried to extend the life of the game.On the downside Im no prude but I found the overly gratuitist swearing a turn off,its just too much and it loses a star in my books as it becomes embarrassing like a previous reviewer said its a shame it couldnt be bleeped out.Overall I give this game a 9/10 it would have been perfect but the swearing is way too much.

... first : english is not my native language, so overlook the bad grammar and else. But back to topic :I ordered this Game for a friend of mine, cause he has a Wii and in the last months was just not happy with the software of Nintendos "family" console.Overkill just showed us, that the WII's motion control is perfect for railshooters like this Game. He is a fan of trashy, gory horror flicks, so it was a match in heaven. When u play it the first time, u see with everey joke, how much fun the developers must have had, making this Game. Its just as good as the old House of Dead II.As many reviews said: The Miniboss battles are too often too easy. Could been more challenging.Overall, the Setting(Tarantino like Style),the Character and Zombie designs, the gorgeous Soundtrack , the easy controlls, the graphics , which arent great in my opinion - but adding a nice "oldskool" feeling ( i liked the water and fog effects)-... all in all it is one great game for the Wii. And to Parents.. the 18 rating isnt just for show..so. Thumbs up, Played with friends this game is pure fun!!

those that have played any house of the dead game will know the score, stand there (or sit) while the game guides you round and you shoot at things on the screen, now add a beyond foul mouthed samual l jackson-a-like and a whole shed load of zombies... mutants, and then crank up the craziness by making the story line include things that would make most churches start screaming about how this game is destroying decent society.its all set in a bayou... somewhere in america and the whole game plays like a grindhouse film, think planet terror rather than death proof. so its got sleaze and swearing plus a grainy and jerky film look which i think works well and also masks the limits of the wii on picture.if you like shooting games or you are into zombie films/games then buy it,if you are not easily offended and want something for your wii thats not cute bunnies or hula hoop practice then buy it. the only bad thing anyone i've shown the game, has said was my girlfriend saying, oh so there's no way our son can play it then?it is not for children
