EDIT: I am 30 hours into the game now and LOVING IT. The exploration, music, puzzles, and turn-based gameplay are fresh and wonderful. I do experience a little hitching on my Xbox One in busy areas and during particularity wild fights (with lots of enemies and lots of spell effects flying), but overall as stated before, I am very much enjoying the game and still recommend it.*************************************************I consider myself an OG-gamer, as I played Bard's Tale 2 and 3 back on the Commodore 64, as well as the newly-remastered Bard's Tale Trilogy (1, 2, and 3) on the Xbox One (100% achievements).However, I never played BT4 when it originally came out on the PC,and just last week I finally purchased it for Xbox One. I'm around five hours into the game.Starting off, I recommend that you play the game on the "As designed" settings (contemporary settings for this game). The 80s style features (like block-based movement), although a blast when playing and reliving 1-3 in the Bard's Tale Trilogy, are just cumbersome in BT4. The graphics, sound, and animation are all really decent. Music in the game is wonderful. Voice acting is good and the NPC stories are actually pretty compelling.I find the gameplay fun. The turn-based combat is about as perfect as you can get trying to make a modern game feel like a classic dungeon-crawler RPG. Your team attacks, they attack, you respond, etc. After a few battles you'll have the hang of it. Remember, if a fight is too much for you, simply come back later and try again once you're stronger. Stronger weapons and armor are found organically as you progress - don't forget to search everywhere!I plan to continue playing until I have completed the whole game. So far, I am enjoying everything. As modern interpretations of classic gaming goes, they did a great job with BT4. Recommended.
