I've recently began to collect whiskys and have added this to my collection due to the high rating on here. The rating is marginally less than something like Ardbeg or Laphroaig however I definitely prefer the smoother more refined taste of this whisky than either of those two. (Laphroaig I like, however Ardbeg is something else and far too extreme for me). This has an initially nice soft sherry taste and has a smell a bit like plum. I'm not the type that will go into obnoxious descriptions as some do but it has a nice complicated taste with a mild fairly smokey aftertaste afterwards. There is only the most mild of peat taste to this but it's all it needs really.Overall it has quite a nuanced character.Definitely one of my favourites now.For people who complain about the price, you used to be able to buy bottles of 70ml Dalmore 12 year old and even their Cigar Malt for $20 dollars in the states. They cranked up their price almost triple what it was in 10-15 years. This being £5 more than it was 10 years ago isn't that big of a deal. You're not going to get a very complicated or enjoyable whisky for £20-£30 in most cases.

I know asking someone what their favourite whisky is, is like asking someone what their favourite chocolate bar is.However I think you will find this whisky will be in everyone's top 5 whiskys. This is a lovely and warm whisky. It has loads of character and flavour. It has a lovely spice taste which you get from the cinnamon. The sweet sherry oak and vanilla makes it very moorish. Is has a great nose which gives you a nutty spice with hints of vanilla and fruit. It has a lovely deep colour. For the money this is one of the best. It comes in a really nice looking box which is a step above most other whisky box's as it makes it look like a really expensive whisky. So it would make a good gift. This is a 5 star whisky for the taste and price.P.s if you like this you should also try Aberlour Abunadh

I'm not a Whiskey drinker, but I'm trying to be. I've always been impressed and somewhat envious of people that can drink Whiskey. So it was with immense pleasure that a father's day gift of a bottle of 'The Balvenie Double Wood 12 Year Old' finally presented me with a bottle I could easily and happily drink. It was beautiful. Like I said, I'm not used to drinking Whiskey, so I'm afraid I can't describe it as well as others can. But it didn't last me long. So, I ordered another bottle, which I've been drinking over the last couple of weeks and it tastes, to me, totally different. I'm not enjoying it as much as the first time. It seems less smooth, less palatable, disappointingly like so many other Whiskeys I've tried in the past. Harsh. Antiseptic.

If your a fan of non peated single malts then you will enjoy this. The taste is sweet and complex and reminds me very much of Glenmorangie. Its been aged in sherry casks aswell and you can clearly taste it. Overall i would buy again. The only negative i can think of is the no tracking on the item from shop4whisky. Considering that this is an expensive item i would have expected tracking on it especially more so due to the current covid crisis we have as mail takes longer to deliver. Poor Leon is probably answering to a long list of customers with the same email.

I am not a regular whisky drinker or a whisky connoisseur and my three favourite whiskies are Balvenie Double Wood, Cardhu Gold Reserve and Dalwhinnie 15 y.o. or the Winter's Gold. They are all a good introduction to whisky for people who have not tried it before and for regular drinking(!) They have lovely honey and caramel flavour notes, no smokiness or antiseptic style phenolic tastes which put a lot of people off. The Balvenie Double Wood in particular has delicious sherry overtones from the maturing in sherry casks as well as oak. A real beauty!

Its very hard to describe a malt whisky to someone else but out of the fifteen to twenty I have tried this is my favourite. It has a lovely smooth taste with none of the sharpness of the slightly cheaper malts. It also has the same effect as a good brandy in that it makes me feel warm inside after a drink, as I don't get this with my other malts I must guess that is the spices added to this one. This is especially handy after getting home at the end of a cold day.The only downside is it very rare to find in a public bar anywhere.Hope this helps

Living in Scotland whisky is part and parcel of everyday life. Everyone has a favourite and Balvenie is mine. There are a number of varieties and this one is one of the cheapest in the range but 'cheap' is relative. This, is a quality malt, soft but very tasty. There are other Balvenie malts that are excellent such as the 16 year old triple wood but is double the price of this double wood malt. This particular 12 year old malt is well worth the money and I would highly recommend it to Scottish malt whisky lovers all over the world.

Review from a whiskey drinker perspective but far from a whiskey connoisseur.I've tried about 15 whiskeys and this is easily within my top 3. This particular bottle was bought as a gift for someone but was opened with sheer delight. As it turns out this whiskey is a great hit with all whiskey drinkers. Even those who do consider them a connoisseur.Price was a little more than you can pick this up from a supermarket however the next day delivery was just what I needed at the time.

In my opinion this is one of the best non-peaty single malt scotch whisky's. I find it very smooth and approachable and its my go to whisky when introducing friends to whisky. I really love my strongly peated whiskys like a laphroaig, or the Uigeadale but I always come back to a Balvenie and to my taste the doublewood 12yr is the best one. I even prefer it to many 15 and 18 year olds. I can't compare it to much older than that because my budget only goes so far :)

This was bought as a Christmas gift for my husband who loves single malt and particularly those matured in sherry casks.Prior to this malt, his favourite was Dalwinnie, but that has now firmly gone to number 2 in his charts. He loves this so much that we had to buy a second bottle for his recent birthday.Postage and packing was reasonable and delvery was excellent. The sheer convenience of not having to trawl the shops was well worth the extra.

This is far my favourite entry level decent whisky. I'm sipping a glass of this while writing this review. I also adore the Chivas 12yo of which im sipping alternately with the double wood. This is a lot smoother than the Chivas. Both have honey and vanilla undertones followed by a nutty aftwrtaste.Djust drnank soem more of aech and can dfefinatlye say tihs is vyre hihgly recommneded . On thaght ntoe im goign to orerder a coullpe moer bottels

As an off the shelf (supermarket available) single malt whisky, this is outstanding. Whisky is one of the most difficult drinks to review because its such a personal taste but this is one you should try out. It took a couple of years before I got around to trying 'The Balvenie 12 year Doublewood' but now It's the only 'moderately inexpensive' Whisky I buy. When I eventually pass away, I hope I am buried in a cask of this fine tipple.

I'm no whiskey expert so I'll save you the pretentious attempts to describe all the complex tasting notes hint of nonsense. What I will say is it tastes darn good. Every time I've had a wee dram it's turned into a not so wee dram. Of the 15 to 20 different types of whiskey I have tasted, this is definitely up there at the top.It also comes in a nice box and is a decent looking bottle so would be very good as a gift.

My wife bought me a small gift pack of this for our anniversary and I was so taken with it I bought a full bottle that night. The smoothness and complexity achieved from the bourbon and sherry cask combination makes for a smooth whisky with a complexity beyond its 12 year aging. Honey and floral notes, sweet woody finish and a gentle smolder on the way out.

What a lovely drop this is. Get hints on oak, cinnamon and black pepper on the tongue, and a slight sherry taste to it too. Also quite sweet, but no too sweet. The perfect balance for me. Only problem I've got with this is that it goes down very quickly, causing me to buy more often ? Decent value for money when on offer! Lovely stuff.
