This isn't the largest Spitfire kit - that honour goes to the 1/24 scale models - but this new offering from Tamiya is by far the best - and most expensive - Spitfire model kit available.This model depicts the Spitfire Mk VIII, for me the most beautiful of all Spitfires due to the pointed rudder and retractable tail wheel. The Mk VIII also had additional fuel tankage compared with the Mk IX and served mainly in the Mediterranean, India and the Asia-Pacific.Until now, the best option for a 1/32 Mk VIII was to convert the Hasegawa Mk VB kit with costly resin parts andn lots of surgery, sanding and swearing. There is also a 1/32 Pacific Coast Models Mk IX, but it's not widely available and I haven't seen it.The Hasegawa is old,
