I have built two of these Tamiya 916s: one box-stock when it was released and one this year which I corrected, detailed, and converted into the Senna special edition. By way of a review, I will give you a few pointers about what to watch out for and what you may like to improve as you build it.Time spent on preparation is very worthwhile. Take extra care with the seam along the upper bodywork; the fit of the brake light surround; the weak join in the front mudguard; and the finish around the fork components and silencers. The work to clean up these very visible parts makes a good primer essential. Watch for a couple of engine parts which have very similar versions on a reissued sprue.Tamiya could have laminated the coil spring, but you have to paint it yourself, which is a pain to do neatly. The chain has a nasty seam which needs careful scraping.Since the kit’s release, Tamiya has added two titanium colours which may be useful to you in reducing the number of mixes; but it really benefits from some metal paints. Several colour calls are inaccurate and unrealistic, so check the web for photos, and the engine warrants some detailed painting which the instructions miss.Visible but fixable errors include the shape of the clutch casing, timing belt cover, thick brake hoses, and the hose mounts on the front callipers. The carburettor part is wrong, but not visible. Some of the more obvious missing details, such as wiring looms, throttle cable, and a coolant tank, can be easily scratch-built.Whether any of that matters to you is ultimately your choice.Given that some manufacturers struggle to match the quality of this 21 year old kit, the shortcomings are easy to forgive. Most are not serious and all but one are fixable if you want to. With a couple of important exceptions, the fit is good and clean-up is fairly easy. The shape and dimensions look right for the most part. With careful preparation, building, and colour choices, a box-stock build can produce a very tidy model; but if you can make a few improvements, you could have a real showpiece which rivals almost any modern kit.

This is a great quality kit with an immense amount of realistic detail (I had this bike for real)Quality of plastic parts is a world away from Airfix which never fit right. These slot together beautifully.So why 4 stars then? I am 60 and some of the parts are so small. The smallest screws are incredibly difficult to see let alone handle. Yes I accept I bought the kit knowing the dimensionsFortunately just purchased a quality desk light and magnifier as without these it would be up in the loft still in the box.Would recommend to any keen modeller, but not for children unless really into this sort of stuff.

Amazing detail, having owned a full size one I can say it is very accurate.Really enjoyed building the model, so much so I have ordered another Ducati model to build. Might be the start of a new hobby.

Tamiya has delivered another highly detailed and comprehensive model. All parts are beautifully designed and very detailed. The finished model is a perfect replica of the the full sized motorcycle.

I have only rated on value for money because it seems a reasonable price its a gift for a man who loves moto GP but it looks good & I am sure he will be pleased

A fantastic model kit for anyone who likes bikes or modelling. Aged anyone between 7 - 70 .....would recommend -the detail of the kit is amazing.

My first build at the age of 48. I enjoyed every minute of it.Sometimes I use the glue on larger pieces but I found I didn’t work as lube

The model is great. Some of the parts don't fit together and you have to glue them on where as all the bits sort of clip together.
