This is a typical model from Tamiya, lots of detail and a lot of small pieces. The plans as always are clear and easy to follow and the pieces fit together nicely with a minimum of filing and cleaning. Painting is more of a challenge, and I would suggest you paint this in pieces rather than when it is assembled. For instance, assemble the hull, then either very carefully with a brush or with an airbrush paint the scheme you wish to follow. Assemble the turrets, superstructure etc and paint those before adding them to the model. This will save you a fair amount of pain and difficulty as opposed to painting it after assembly.Smaller details such as railings etc are not included unfortunately, but these are available from Eduard Accessories, and I would recommend the extra investment if you want this model to look really special. Warning though, the Eduard stuff is etched brass and extremely fine and fragile. It will require a great deal of care and a steady hand to make the best of it.Paint and glue of course are not included, you will need to buy those separately. If you decide not to opt for the brass expansion, that's fine, the model will look very nice in any collection as it stands. With some care and fine thread, you can also string out the radio antenna and other mast lines if you wish. These will help to make the model look a bit better.Overall this is a very nice model and relatively easy to build for intermediate and experienced modellers. It may be a challenge for anyone new to modelling.

I have not built this ship yet but I can tell you that the detail level is stunning, a clear winner for Tamiya in the bigger 1:350 market.Well crafted parts, small details are accounted for, a one single piece hull with possibility of remote control options. All amount for an excellent model when built. It's been some years since she was released and there are by now many after market additions to kit her out to be twice the ships she is straight out of the box. I intend to place her side by side with HMS Hood and HMS Repulse of the same scale from Trumpeter as a lasting tribute to there great vessels sadly lost to enemy action.Prince of Wales was a King George V class battleship which carried14" guns in two quadruple and on double turret and was part of the new modern force of Battleships that Britain so dearly needed early on in the war. She was consort of HMS Hood when Bismarck damaged her bridge and then sank Hood in the Battle of the Denmark Straight in 1941, all this taking place whilst civilian workers were still on board working on her main guns. Service in Force Z saw her sadly sunk by high level bombing, along with the great Battlecruiser HMS Repulse in what was later called the Battle of Malaya that same year. The wreck of Wales is still is situ, turned upside down on the sea bed in relatively shallow water.A great scale kit of the doomed King George V class battleship and there should be one in every British home.

This is my first plastic model ship for about 30 years and how they have come on. Really well detailed sprues, components easily cut from sprue (buy a specialised sprue cutter with tiny jaws) and should make a fine model. Beware - this isn't a weekend project, more like several weeks, and lots of the components are seriously small and easy to drop on the floor. Make sure you have a powerful torch (or the wife) handy to find them. It's also essential to paint the small parts before cutting them off the sprue as painting on the model is difficult. When locating the tiny bits on the model I found that reverse tweezers are ideal - these naturally grip the item by spring and you have to squeeze theblades to release as opposed to normal tweezers which let go if you don't keep the finger pressure on.Only real neg is that, because of the scale, the gun barrels on the small guns are very (very) thin and easy to break off - I've done it. Might try to replace with fine brass wire drilled into the gun body - fiddly again but what else can you do?Buy and be patient!

The Tamiya HMS Prince of Wales kit was released in 1986 .It is a lovely kit , but I highly recommend you source an aftermarket etch detail set and above all , brass barrels for the Main 14 inch guns and the AA - 5.25 inch guns -you would also be advised ( if you can afford it ) to source aftermarket oerlikon 20mm andOctuple ( 8 Barrel ) 2 pdr pom-pom gun mountings with brass guns -The most imprortant thing to replace is the Kit Cranes which are modelled from solid plastic( and trust me . don't look very nice ) -I also would not pay over £ 40 , as Flyhawk recently announced ( Feb 2018 ) that they are releasing an all-new tool 1/350 HMS Prince of Wales - that will be far more detailed and highly accurate (it will blow this kit out of the water - as such , as the sheer quality of injection modelling has advanced so far now , since the mid 1980's )Read full review...

I first built this Model in 1990 , and the only aftermarket item I bought for it was a Fabric White Ensign Flag( by BECC Flags - highly recommended ) I did NOT know at the time I built it , that photo-etch existed , or Brass barrels .Having said that , I still have the Kit at home , painted to a decent standard - its a lovely kit with no flaws ( or badly fitting parts )- in other words , typical ( in a good way ) Tamiya - I would recommend this kit to anyone as parts fit was excellent, moulding detail is superb, and instructions are clear - If you have the opportunity , fit aftermarket brass barrels , wooden decks and photo-etch sets - and you will have a fabulous accurate model - The kit was made in 1986 ,and thought ( wrongly ) a bit old , but its just as good as anything made from Trumpeter.

This excellent kit was a pressie from my girlfriend. Delivery was so quick I'm beginning to think Amazon have a Tardis! TAMIYA have done the subject proud with an excellent detailed kit that will be a delight for any modeler, and offers lots of scope for the perfectionist, through the addition of photo-etch upgrade parts. I would recommend that investment if you want to take this famous battleship to model exhibition standard. I have done this and expect to be a busy boy for some time, even though I am expecting some headaches along the way. Yes I know they will be self inflicted. It has prompted a number of other purchases, also from Amazon, to enable me to do the Ship justice.

Thgis kit is not for the raw beginner as I am. There are many parts of the kit pieces very fraglesuch as aeriels etc. But in the hands of someone with experience, it is a good kit to work on, andcan turn out a good model. As to the painting of it, the instructions tells you to paint the hull, hull red, which means you have to use two different paints to get the colour you want. But Tamiya sell a hull paintcalled Dull Red which comes in a spray can and can do a better job. A good model for the experienced moddeler.

Another Tamiya model I have purchased and have just commenced building it. As usual Tamiya products are well ahead of their competitors the plastic is of good quality as are the parts on the spru. Have also completed recently the Bismark, KG5, Missouri and if the building and finished product are like the predecessors the model will be a fine one. Why go anywhere else, Tamiya products are excellent.

from the 1980s Tamiya I believe is still the only manufacture to make this item which should build into an outstanding replica of this amazing battleship which fought in two very important battles of the second world war and was finally lost in action for the want of an aircraft carrier which would have saved the day for prince of wales and repulse long will they live in memory.

not actually built yet but on reading instructions it is well laid out I have arthritis so small pieces would normally be a problem for me not with this kit I've actually built several tamiya models and they are all excellent the only thing I would recremend is read the instructions carefully and paint the smaller parts before breaking of the spruce

Excellent detail. Instructions are clear and logical. Moulding is very good...everything fits together!! Some of the tiniest pieces are fragile, of course. It was my first attempt in over 40 years, so my clumsy fingers broke a couple of pieces. Have already ordered another kit to attempt. Very good product, rapid delivery.

This is the first ship model I've made and seems to be an excellent kit. With patience a decent model can me made straight from the box although there's plenty of add-ons available if wanted. My only criticism is that some of the instructions are a little vague which stopped me giving it a five star rating.

What a fantastic build.Looks great, everything fitted perfect.Looks stunning. The highs, hitting the Bismarck, forcing her back to Brest, the lows getting bombed by Japanese aircraft, which led to her eventual sinking.I love Tamiya kits, wish they would make a Scharnhorst 1/350.That would be amazing.

Arrived very well packaged currently under construction. Very fine detail and requires attention to detail. For future purchasers, read the instructions and plan ahead regarding painting etc. Research online paint details as some information with the model is sketchy

A brillant kit that I bought to celebrate getting a new job.. Am really taking my time over it. Its very well put together and the instructions are clear. You do need to drill a few small holes yourself so not suitable for youngest modellers. i love it!
