Let me state up front that I am a lover of Sylvanian Families and small world play. I'm also in my 40s, so I get to enjoy seeing the joy the younger members of my family get when playing with it, and they really do love playing with it. I am not one for wooden toys that look chic. I have given lovely, plastic Sylvanian Families kit to half a dozen of the girls and boys in my family to play with over time and they love it - the boys as much as the girls. I think the fact that they are creatures rather than dolls makes this a universally appealing toy, that boys feel they can play with too.So - the grand piano! I love it! It's really impressive looking - lovely and shiny.The lid closes over the keys and the top of the piano can be propped open or left closed - like a real one! I love the gold interior - Liberace would be proud. The quality is excellent, as we all expect with SF. The stool is wide, so that the figure sits on it easily - without needing to be propped up. I would have liked the seat to be velvet covered, but plastic will last better. I love the Lion pianist! I've never seen a lion figure before and he's really gorgeous. He reminds me a bit of the Beast in Beauty and the Beast. I love his satiny suit... again...over the top and fabulous!So - value. This is around the 18 mark at present. I know that this product is not cheap, but I think that is offset by it's quality and longevity. There is a healthy second hand market in SF (my sister's eldest has sold her huge collection off now and had no problems getting great prices) so in the long run it works out not so expensive after all in my experience. It's also something that gets played with a huge amount - much more than many of the other toys we have bought in our family. We tend to buy it for Christmas and birthday gifts and this would be a great gift. It's quite a blingy item - not your everyday furniture, but something special. The grand piano would be perfect if you have an hotel, or a large house, or even potentially the department store... it will take up a fair bit of space - so no use in a starter home! I used to have Sylvanian Families toys when I was little and now my Daughter loves them and has them and it's so nice to see her enjoying them just like I once did.Lionel Grand is the first Sylvanian Lion I have seen and he is brilliant (I hope they introduce a family for him). My Son immediately asked if he could have him when he arrived which is clear proof that Sylvanian's can have appeal to boys too.As with the other Sylvanian's, he can be put into a sitting position so he can sit down on his piano stool and his legs, arms and head are movable. Lionel's clothes can also be removed if wished and perhaps swapped with another Sylvanian characters clothes if your child has others.Lionel is dressed to impress in a satin feeling suit and there is a little gap for his lion tail to pop out too (the tail is incredibly cute).As with other Sylvanian's he has lovely soft fur material on him to feel like fur and both of my Children adore him. Lionel comes with a little story about how Stella takes her little sister Freya and her friend to lunch at the restaurant where they discover Lionel playing and he then introduces the two younger Sylvanian's to music and their own instruments.Lionel comes with a piano and a plastic stool and I can confirm he can sit on the stool easily. The piano lid opens to reveal the keys inside and there is a little stick inside that can be lifted up to prop the piano lid open if wished. One very cute detail is that there is even a cover lid for the piano keys which can be opened and closed.A really sweet little set and Lionel is very much loved (and slightly argued over who gets to play with him) in our home.

This is another gorgeous set from Sylvanian families. These are a firm favourite in our household with adults and kids alike. Our three year old has recently fallen in love with playing with these families and her brother enjoys joining in whenever he can!This small set provides a lion figure and his piano and stool. You can move his arms and legs to get him to sit nicely on his piano stool. He is pretty nattily dressed with a very cute little bow tie. The piano itself is nicely detailed and looks great.The only slight issue I have with this figure is around his mane. Given that the hedgehog family we have are really lovely and furry where their spines would be it feels like a bit of a missnot to give this little dude a nice fluffy mane - I realise that as a pianist it could get in his eyes but aesthetically it would be a lovely touch. I do like his little tail though!At just under £20 this is not a cheap option but as with all Sylvanian toys it is well made and should last a long time so it is a good investment. Given that these have been around since I was small their overall appeal has not diminished so there should be years of play ahead.

What a lovely set - we have had Sylvanian families for years - some from my childhood, but most of them have been collected by my children. They decided immediately that the piano and pianist belong in Cedar Terrrace (they have Bluebell cottage and the little starter cottage as well), but Cedar Cottage has a lot of space and so feels suitably grand for a grand piano!The lion figure is very elegant in his tails suit and his bow tie and he sits easily on the piano stool without falling over. I like that they have positioned his arms in a way that allows him to play more easily. As you come to expect from Sylvanian Families, there is great attention to detail - gold on the inside of the piano,so that when you lift the lid, it catches your eye immediately. You can open and close the lid over the keys as you wish and you can set your pianist up (or maybe one of his students up) to play.

Being a boy and a fan of MUSCLE men and the like when I was young, Sylvanian Family stuff didn't hold much charm for me. Even though I could tell they were well made and detailed, there always seemed to be something bland about them. Maybe my imagination didn't swing that way, tending towards guns and rivers of blood rather than petticoats and cups of tea. Still, they must have a lot of charm for a lot of people as the releases just keep coming. This one features an adorable lion and a detailed piano - it's the first Sylvanian set my girls have had and they're already asking for more. This one already has been given pride of place in one of their dollhouses, although there is also a bath in the same room,so the Feng Shui is way off.

My eight year old daughter just loves this piano. She has piano lessons herself and she just loves sitting the lion on his stool at his piano whilst she practises on her own keyboard.The detail is superb, the keyboard has an opening fallboard and there's a music rack for the music and the top board opens and can be kept open with the top board prop exposing the beautifully detailed cast iron plate. There's a lyre post and pedal box with three pedals too.It really is a beautiful piece of work. The lion's lovely, my daughter loves his suit and especially his tail.There's really nothing to dislike with this; it is superb

We love Syvanian families in my house - I’ve been a collector for many years, with some of my sets being from the 80’s and 90’s. Lots of ladies who were children themselves around then never parted with their sets and now have great big collections, much of mine is in the loft.I’m still collecting now as the new sets are still really nice and have such great quality play value.This lovely set is the grand piano set, which is ideally suited to placing in the Hotel or one of the bigger houses. As always, the set is a lovely item to hold and examine. The detail is excellent and build quality is great too.5 stars

Completely adorable. The six year old loves music and is having keyboard lessons. This set is brilliant as she can mimic her teacher and encourage practicing!Excellent quality, whilst the keys don't play the lid goes over the keys and all of the pieces are big enough not to get lost.Nice to see a lion entering the arena (as it were) as one of the things I have always found about Sylvanian families is that they are very popular with boys up to the age of about seven. He is pretty butch as well.All in all a great addition or effect. The only downside as with all Sylvanian Families is the price!

I did not know the "Sylvanian families" before I received this one for reviewMy immediate impression was that the quality and finishing is very good and it comes well packaged.The attention to detail is very good both on the piano player and the piano and it's good that the hands can be moved to "play" the piano.I think this will appeal both to boys and girls, but it could also be an expensive interest if you want to create your own Sylvanian town family as each box set is rather pricey.

These toys will last many generations so are quite a good investment so keep the box!Play value.They are very good toys to play with, lots of play value with these.Overall.Excellent quality, lots of play value and will outlast most children so can go around to a second generation.

This Sylvanian piano playing character is great. He has a fine suit on and a bright red bowtie. He looks the part and is of good quality. His piano is equally impressive and whilst he won't really be producing any great tunes - imagination does the necessary.My children have already got him playing concerts to their entire mass of other figures - it is lovely to see them play and using their imagination in their sylvanian games. Fantastic.

This is a fab little set. As expected for Sylvanian Family toys, the quality is second to none. I have a friend whose daughters actually still play with her Sylvanian toys from over 30 years ago. They really are top quality. This little set fits in perfectly with other kits, and is a great addition to our ever growing collection. Lovely to have a large accessory like the piano too. Love everything about it.

My daughters have loved playing with this set since it arrived. They particularly like how the piano keys can be pushed in. Lionel has been banging out the tunes to the Greatest Showman and High School Musical for weeks! The piano is quite large and fills half the floor on their 'Sylvanian Starter home' but has regularly been serenading those in bed! (See pic)

Very sweet playset. It comes in a nice box showing the character.The character is a sweet pianist who is a lion. He has a swish silky outfitThe lion can have his paws against the keys to be as if he can play.The set comes with the piano and stool so you have all you need and quality is nice.

I got this to go on my daughter's 16th birthday cake. She used to collect salvanian families when she was litter, and she also plays piano, so this was perfect.She loved it, I loved it and my 7 year old wanted it lol.The detail is brilliant, a perfect addition to any collection.
