Edit 11-20-2018Mobile app iOS,I noticed as some others have that I was unable to see a camera remotely yesterday. I had previously setup and tested the app with just 3 cameras. Nothing would bring the new cameras into view. Well almost nothing, I removed the app from the phone and reinstalled it, now all cameras are showing remotely.Original :I was a low voltage installer in years gone by and this brought back memories of why I no longer like crawling in attics at this age. Seriously though the unit is superb. Its not that bad of an install, its just me hating crawling in attics after having done it for so many years. It came packaged really well. I was surprised at how well it was protected. We purchased the 16 channel NVR for future expandability. I put cameras all over the place. They are arranged to keep track of important areas as you would expect. The image is great. Better than I had hoped for.The cables are not really internet ready, each cable only has 4 wires in it. I would rather have had a fully functional cable.Upon taking the DVR out of the box, there was a small rattle inside, more of a piece of plastic moving around. Like a broken tab during assemble.Installation activities. The cables also a little short for larger homes, though they do sell longer versions. In most of my use cases the cables were fine. It's just 3 were all the way across the home in a far corner. I could have used another 10'.So, I simple ran my own cable and terminated the ends. No big deal for me. However if you think you'll have enough and your getting close in your estimation, you better have one or two longer ones. The 60' cables seem to be a standard in the security camera kits. The cable protector/environmental protection covers are a little large, not overly so. Just notating it here for others. You'll need to make sure you have extra room behind the camera. Most people will not see this issue. Make sure and use a drill bit big enough for the protector to pass though if it will be placed inside a wall, or overhang etc. You are not just drilling a hole for the cable. Look at the camera and you'll see the size you need to make it. I also ended up needing a longer HDMI cable, the one that came with this was about 6' I needed a 10' due to my particular situation. Not a mfg. fault, just my use case. So this one went into the spare bin and one in a 10/12' came out.The first day, I needed to arrange things in my AV closet, and add a plugin. You may wish to have a licensed electrician preform this, if it's needed. We started about 1 pm and finished about 7 putting in the NVR, 3 cameras, pulling 3 new wires, terminating those wires. The second day we started at 9 am and finished at 8 PM, with the remaining cameras. Though we had some extremely challenging placements this day. Your install time may or may not be this long, or it could possibly be longer.Use :As to the cameras they work really well, I was surprised at how well the picture looks and the microphone, well its as another user put it almost too good. You can go into settings and turn down the volume., Make sure you do that for cameras that are internal, aka in the house. If you using a monitor it may not be necessary that much. But ours is piped into the living room tv, and the kids or I, leave the volume up. You'll clearly know it when you switch over to the camera system and click on the camera.Notes:For anyone looking for answers here its also a good bet to look at the Swann forums. There are some good topics from other users there as well. Especially for users who may be asking more technical or unique issues. For anyone looking at this I would suggest also looking at some youtube videos there are a few that go over some of the options in the NVR settings. Like setting recording limits etc. Motion detection and so forth.End results / Opinion:I am more than pleased with my purchase, it far lives up to my desires. I wish I had bit the bullet and done this earlier on. Like years ago, but oh well its up now and I am more than happy. It's a little large purchase, money wise. But I personally think it was well worth the money at least for us.This replaced a wireless competitor and its leaps and bounds above it.

After owning this system for one year I will say overall it is really good. It does have some downsides though.Cons: The system never did work correctly with Google assistant. The system does reboot itself on it's own quite regularly. For a while, a camera would go out and I would have to unplug it and plug it back it to get it back on. After installing the latest firmware update, the cameras haven't turned off on there own anymore but the whole system does reboot itself daily now. The biggest con is that you can't watch all the camera streams in HD quality at one time. I use a 4k monitor to watch the cameras most of the time and it will only let me set 2 of the camera streams at max quality. The rest are not in HD. I understand that it records all of them at full resolution but it would be nice if you could monitor them all at full quality. Also the 2TB hard drive will only keep a 2-3 day backlog if you have all the camera maxed out on resolution and bitrate. I ended up scaling back half the cameras to lower res and bitrate in order to get 4 full days of backlog. If anyone adds more than the 8 cameras that come with it, you will definitely want to upgrade to a larger hard drive.Pros: Video and audio quality are really good. The mobile app works pretty well. I didn't have to do any special network setup to be able to use the mobile app from anywhere. The ability to configure each individual camera to either use night vision or use the color night mode is really useful. Some of my cameras are lit up enough from street lights/house lights that I disable the night vision mode on them and then I enable it on cameras in darker areas. It works well at seeing license plates on cars if they are stopped. If the car is moving, the cameras don't record at a high enough refresh rate to be able to see the plate.

Picture quality is very good plug and play installation , settings up the phone app is very simple just follow the instructions and it's done , possibly could do with some instructions on setting some of the features which it may have but I haven't found yet. The microphones pick up every sound and when the wind blows it's a bit loud it can be turned down or muted in settings. The night vision is good too giving a nice clear black and white picture with little lose of area . Not the cheapest system on the market but seems to be a good quality.
