I use an urn for my hot drinks because with arthritis in my hands, I tend to drop heavy things - and while dropping a kettle full of hot water is very dangerous, dropping the jug of cold water I use to fill an urn is just annoying. It also means I have constant hot water and can always provide a hot drink for myself or for quite a lot of friends at once. This urn is excellent for my needs in that direction, sturdy, easy to use and fill, and boils up quite quickly (25 minutes from ice cold to boiling). It also has a handy simmering setting, so I can keep it at just the right temperature for my needs without burning a lot of electricity. The element is concealed, which makes it easier to clean and descale, and the lid locks into place. It has steam vents which you can place so they are at the back, away from faces or hands. I'd have happily given this 5 stars, except for two things. There is no drip tray (though that's a minor point, given that it has yet to drip at all). And more importantly, the tap is very low down on the case, and I can't get my larger mugs under it. You'd be fine using small teacups or mugs, but I like a big mug, especially in the morning, and I'm left with a choice of putting the urn onto a stand so I can get the sup under the tap, or decanting the water into a small jug and pouring it on into my cup, which is a bit of a pain. Other than that, great.

This little beauty looks much more suited to home and domestic use, rather than the usual all-metal urns that all appear to come out of the same factory....and more usually found being used in heavy domestic or light-cateringsituations.The only snag, from my point of view, is the one issue that applies to all urns. Anyone living in a hard-water area really will have to get used to the regular de-scaling process. Whether this is done weekly or monthly or quarterly depends on the amount of usage....and the quality of the water.I have not had my Swan White Plastic Urn long enough .... in regular use .... to determine how frequently mine needs to be done, but to be sure,I will never use the urn on a daily basis for more than a week at a time before de-scaling, on account of the very hard water kindly supplied by Anglian Water.Compared with the metal urns, this little gem still holds 8 litres and when empty, is unbelievably light. Something to value when de-scaling time comes along.A very nice product with which I am very well pleased. I simply hope that by 'looking after it' it will serve me for several...or many...years.If my urn lasts several serviceable years, then maybe I should have awarded 5 Stars!And...good value at a very fair price.Read full review...

This is a very good product. It takes about 30 minutes to boil a full urn.The thermostat goes up to 5 which is for boiling. If you turn the dial to 4 the water will keep extremely hot with the thermostat coming on about every 3.5 minutes for about 20 seconds and then switches off again. It only reheats the water to the desired level and does not bring it again to boil (unlike some other models). This prevents the water from evaporating. If you want the water to be cooler just turn down the dial. When the thermostat comes on it causes a slight noise of the water warming up but you get used to it quickly and you would only hear it if it is quiet around.Suitable as a Shabbos kettle as the water stays very hot without evaporating overnight. It is also economical as the urn is not constantly on unlike some other makes. The lid locks in by twisting so it can't be removed accidentally. The plastic doesn't get as hot as metal so it is safer especially where there are kids about. The tap does not seem to drip but I have not had it for long. There is a safety feature that if the water boils out the electricity cuts out. There is a button on the base to reset the kettle.

Purchased for my elderly father after his central heating boiler broke down and he didn’t have any hot water. Brilliant piece of kit, would highly recommend. Haven’t tried filling it to the top but, at half full, and with the setting on number 3, it takes only about 10minutes to warm water sufficiently for a wash or to do the washing up. Obviously would take longer to reach the boil, but you can use a kettle if you need boiling water. In built thermostat keeps water at desired temperature. Although made of plastic, the sides do not get uncomfortably hot, so no real danger of scalding (although I’ve not tried it up to the boil). Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a portable, effective water heater.

If you're looking for a cheap commercial urn this is not for you. This is a home appliance and is fit for purpose. It's not something I should expect to use every day, I would bring it out when I have lots of visitors such as at Christmas, a BBQ, party, funeral, etc. It is light, heats up quickly and can be set at 'simmer'. One major draw back is that the tap is a simple pull down so the unit needs to be well back on the kitchen bench and away from the reach of young children as there is a serious risk of scalding. I put mine over the sink. It saves borrowing/boiling two or three kettles and is not so large as to be cumbersome in a small kitchen.

Perfect. I can't afford to refit my kitchen for a few years, but I am cleaning, painting, making it work in the meantime. Having hot water ready to hand, is a little awkward... Heating up a whole tank of water which has to travel a long way to the tap through the pipes from the loft... Expensive and you have to run a lot of water before the hot arrives, ... This solves the problem... Setting 1 to 2 is more than adequate for washing hands... Or doing some clothes washing... Or a few dishes. Without the wait!An improvement would be to supply a longer tap attachment to reach over the sink.

I required a commercial urn for a new business and hoped this plastic model would suffice. First impressions are good. Product seems well made and designed with a concealed element that in my experience makes cleaning and descaling easier.Upon testing a full 8 litres of house mains temperature water took 28 minutes to boil, which is acceptable. The thermostat was handy and helps prevent wasting power. The tap feels ok and appears replaceable, but time will tell. My only negative comment is the guarantee is only 12 months. Surely Swan could extend this to two years, excluding the tap.

Is great to use if you want to be able to make a cuppa for yourself with no worry of dropping kettle etcAlso means you can serve guests hot drinks instantlyI do find the noise an irritation but hopefully I'll get used to it, on setting 3 it boils every 6 mins for roughly 10-15 seconds. I find setting 2 the best as even more silent time, less boil time and it pours at a heat you can drink instantly tho I don't use milk but coffeemate

This was a handy size about 16" tall for it fitted in the church kitchen under the wall cupboards. Nice size, makes nearly 2 gallons of tea or coffee. It is easy to carry (when empty of course) and keeps water at or very near boiling with minimum steaming. The thermostat works well and the plastic body means it is not too hot outside. Keep away from children.

Loved this item but a couple of things to note.....when you boil water for drinks on number 5 it does NOTturn off like a 'normal' kettle. So you may end up likeme with a steamy kitchen, but 'cuts out' on other numbers.Water tap has no 'cut off' point when filling cup/jug.Perfect for any time you need hot water not just for tea/coffee.

The swan plastic water urn 8L is brill, instead of the old looking stainless steel in the kitchen its just like a big kettle. I run a B&B & this works well for me. You bring it up to the boil in 20 mins on number 5, then turn it down to number 3 for enegy saving drinks, perfect temp all day.

8 litres of Hot water where there was none within ten minutes. It is compact enough to be placed on a work surface and will supply water for washing up, or boil it for tea and coffee. It is well made and everything works as it should. Couldn't ask for better, well done Swann.

As a small company of 15 staff a lot of time was wasted boiling a kettle to make drinks the swan tea urn ensures there is allways hot water at any time so not only is it time efficient it is more economically better also,Works very well and easy to use.

Bought this to replace another make when it broke. Excellent product which comes to the boil quite quickly and keeps the water piping hot. Setting 3.5 is perfect temperature for tea etc. Once boiled leave it on this setting. Would highly recommend.

Good value water boiler, don't look bad neither. But that's not real why you're buying it. It is a bit noisy but it is boiling water. A bit odd they say not to fill it higher than the 7L mark? There's plenty of space above the 8L for bubbling??
