We've had two of these... (had to get a replacement when the first one got dropped - oops!) and I agree with what some others have said about consistency. Our first one was ok. We liked it but it needed some serious sunshine to get it going, and in the middle of winter that was a bit hard to come by, so sometimes it took a couple of days to charge properly. But once it was charged it was lovely and gave off a beautiful golden glow, which gradually faded after a couple of hours, so perfect for my son to go to bed with it on in his room, and by the time we were ready for bed ourselves it had gone out.The second one though - wow! Sitting on a windowsill even on a dull day is enough to charge it up to last for...well, I don't know how long because I turn it off when we go to bed! Certainly longer than 3 hours and it's still going strong. What I would do is to give it a go, and if the one you get seems to be one of the not-so-good ones then send it back and ask for a replacement. The good ones are excellent and well worth it, so maybe if they get enough returned then they might work on consistency!Structurally they are very sturdy (as long as you don't drop them on a brick floor - they ARE glass!) and very attractive. When fully charged it really looks like you have trapped sunshine inside it! My son (aged 6) thinks it's fabulous!

i was first aware of these a few years ago when a friend gave one to a keen eco friend, such a simple idea yet it works so well. i was then given one and have recently bought this twilight one for a friend who is a big fan of pink. it has been admired and adored by all. take it as it comes, pop it by the window and yes the brightness of the light will depend on how much sun there has been during the day. in the summer they just go on for hours and have provided a good source of light for many evenings of bbqs and other outdoor night time entertainment. in the winter obviously not as great but they do still work, you can switch the light off and it still charges up but doesn't use any of the charge so after a while it will be brighter again, even take the battery out and charge it up if your really keen. the other great thing is the automatic switch on when the sun goes down, you don't even have to think about it. would definately recommend these sun jars (i have the original sun jar, and have experienced the pink/twilight jar) so can't comment on the blue moon light necessarily but i'm sure they are just as good. was a little worried the pink might be a bit of a bright pink but its actually fairly subtle and toned down whilst still being a great little light source.

I recently got one of these as a present, in all honesty I thought it was going to be the bright sunny glow one I had seen on this website, but it wasn't.Not that I am complaining, this one looks pure white during the day, quite a funky looking thing in its own right. After it being charged from the sunlight (left mine on the windowsill for half a day, and the window does get a lot of natural light). I was left with a lovely glowing jar. It really does work, a better alternative to candle light and safer too especially if you have young children in the house.I also use mine as a nightlite, placed in the dark hallway if our youngest gets up he can see where the stairs are.Planning on using minein the summer months in the garden as I think it will look really effective especially when dining outside. Great for taking on picnics or concerts for when it goes dusk. I am so pleased that I might get more for placing on the steps in the garden as they are waterproof and look quite trendy for any garden. Our son has already had the idea of using it for going round on Halloween.A novel present for anyone and it doesn't need any electricity great for ecolovers.

The sun in a jar provides excellent mood lighting and sets a good ambient setting to any room. However, within my sun jar I did not find hydrogen in sufficient quantities to trigger and sustain a nuclear fusion reaction. While the sun jar generated a nice warm glow it was slightly cooler that the 5778K surface temperature of the sun which I would have expected. I also found that the power output fell short at 5 Watts when compared to the calculated sun's power output of 3.846×10*26 Watts. This put my plan to create a fully sustainable isolated eco system just off the coast of Skegness on hold (for now). But not all of the comparisons are bad as I found the sun jars inability to produce massive levels of GAMMA radiation a benefit to myself and my cat Sebastian.I was more than happy to pass this sun jar on to my mum as a present because I knew that she would prefer a mood light rather than a G-type main sequence star comprising about 99.8632% of the total mass of the Solar System. But you can't please everyone and this is still a good buy.

I bought this item for my girlfriend as part of a gift and she loves it. This was a great gift as in the evening she can now use the jar instead of a candle and it produces the same warm glow she enjoys. The advantages of this product are that she does not have to go out and buy more and more candles as they run out, it replaces the untidy look of a half burnt and melted candle, and it is incredably safe (no flames involved). My girlfriend has encountered no problems so far with this item. It gets plenty of sunlight considering we live in Belfast, it gives off more light than a candle which is great for her but is not suitable for people wanting to e.g. read, write.Overall,I believe this product is good value for money if you take into account thefact that you will become the proud owner of a mini solar panel, you don't need to waste money on candles and the bulb is enclosed in what I can only describe as a really cool old fahioned sweetie jar.

I was given a sun jar recently, and it really is absolutely beautiful. There isn't enough light to read by, but the glow it gives is so very comforting and cosy, and for atmospheric mood lighting, I can't imagine anything nicer. It makes a wonderful nightlight - very warm and soothing, and because it doesn't plug into the wall, you don't need to worry about frying your lampshades or wasting electricity. Its being a jar very much adds to the romance of it; almost as if you went on a picnic that day, went into the woods with a jar to catch tadpoles or butterflies and caught the sun instead - really sort of magical. Its being solar powered means it will last for an age,so the initial cost is ultimately well worth it.This is a lovely, lovely little thing, and it's very muchly recommended.

I can't give this 5 stars, because I was honestly hoping for a little more light. I really wanted something to read by, and there is no way this is bright enough. With that in mind though, this has been surprisingly useful. It's dim enough that if my partner is home late I can leave it on the bedside table and still sleep. It does give a welcoming glow left on a windowledge, and is attractive enough to leave on the windowledge to charge up. I've used it as lighting whilst watching TV in an evening. I've even used it to go get logs after dark.It feels a little expensive compared to solar-powered garden lights, which actually give more light I think. But this is a really nicely made and pleasing object that I'm happy to give housespace to!

I received this as a gift in the spring and it's amazing! It's one weakness (and I think the reason it's got such mixed reviews here) is that it's only as good as the weather at the time.If it's left in direct sunlight during long hot summer days it will glow for hours afterwards, but if it's exposed to a couple of overcast days it will barely flicker into life. I guess a miner relying on this light to see where he was sticking his pickaxe would be quite upset during the rainy weather, but I'm not one! so it's often a lovely surprise during summer evenings in the garden to see it spring into life out of the corner of my eye. A great talking point at BBQ's too. As is mining.

I brought the sun jar because when i work nights my girlfriend likes a light on so i thought we could try this to save on electricity and still give her the comfort from the light! When it arrived we was very happy with the quality of the light, its a nice jar and would look good on any window ledge! Like the other reviewers have said its waterproof with a good seal so can be left outside if you wish.It automatically comes on when it gets dark unless you switch it off (switch is under the lid) and it gives out a nice glow which is romantic and like a candle light but its not enough light for you to be able to read! The cheapest i found this was £15 on play.com free delivery

I love these sunny little jars. In fact i have a whole bunch of them illuminating my Fire escape for those warm winter evenings. Recently i decided to add to my collection when i saw some "surprisingly cheap" Sun Jars on the internet. You know where this is going, yeah they turned out to be not quite the real deal - and i suspect some of the not so favourable reviews here are referring to the dodgy counterfeits doing the rounds on ebay etc... So be bright and be sure you get the original "Suck Uk" Sun jars on Amazon, they really are quite beautiful.

i had to buy this sun jar as i broke the glass on my first one. they are a great product, ideal for camping. as long as the weather is good. as the sun went down, we were knitting by the light given off!my only reason for not giving it 5 stars? the quality seems to have gone down since i bought the first one a couple of years ago.still, a good product. works ok, delivered quickly.i might send one to some friends being deployed to afghanistan soon!

I have bought a sun jar for my wife. Before I decided to order it, I read many reviews on the website and some reviews made me worry about the stability of Sun jar, especially in the less sunlight winter. When I received it, I put it on my windowsill for only 4 hours in a cloudy day. However, when sun went down, it started to shine the orange light. My wife is very satisfied with the gift.

I am delighted with my sunjars which provide a great ambient light on a summer's evening. The first time I used the jars, I did have to charge up the battery in a battery charger, but I put this down to the batteries being flat from being in a dark box for so long. Most companies don't even bother supplying batteries with products so I was just pleased they were included.

I bought 2 of these for my Mum for her birthday. She has had them outdoors for a couple of months now and she absolutely loves them. As soon as it starts to get dark they start shining just like there are little jars of sun in the garden. I think 2 in the garden look great and I will definitely be buying her more to dot around the place.5/5 - a great product!

This is a brilliant product. I would recomend this, it works a treat. We have now stopped using the outside light in the garden, not only is it saving me money on my electric but it gives a very romantic glow. I will be buying another couple to scatter around.Only thing to remember is that its glass, and the jar is very attractive to my two year old.
