First off both of these aircraft are very well done on the graphics front, highly detailed cockpits both inside and out. With the Stuka you can move to the gunners position and turn round to view forward to the pilot (though you can't actually see one). There are all (I presume) the correct dials and switches in both cockpits, although not all of the controls seem to have any function. When `flying' I did not notice any hesitation or frame rate drop. There are 2 skins for the Hurricane, both Mk IIC based, and 5 for the Stuka, all based on the Stuka B1. As far as I could tell the flying aspects were authentic. Engine noises for the Hurricane seemed to match what I recall from various flying displays. The sound of the Stuka seemed more like a Cessna than something with a Junkers Jumo engine but what do I know. However, the dive sound seemed a good match for the noise Stuka's make in films etc. Documentation is fairly minimal but sufficient for the purpose.Outside of free flight you get two `missions' for each aircraft, both at beginner level - unless I'm missing something that's it on the missions front. I don't think you get even those if you are using FS 2004. Unfortunately I couldn't check how this add-on works with FS 2004 as my FS disk 4 seems to have taken off on its own. Speaking of which, you do not need the disk in the computer to play. For those who may be wondering the guns do not appear to work, and you can't drop bombs though you can drop training canisters from the Stuka on one of the missions.Personally I found it slightly disappointing; basically you are getting two good skins and very little else.System details : Win 7 64bit, 8 gig ram, 1 gig graphics card Intel Core i7 processors, MS Flight Sim X with all options max'd.

Perhaps I am terminally naive or something, but the product I gleefully ordered through the Vine programme gave no indication that it wasn't a full PC game.Indeed the picture of the cover art here has no warning on it to that effect. Hence my disappointment when I opened the package from Amazon to see a different cover on the product, stating in bold text "ADD ON FOR MICROSOFT FSK & FS2004".Guess I'm going to have to buy Microsoft Flight Simulator to try this out. If I do, I'll come back and update this stop-gap review accordingly. In the meantime, I would humbly request the administrators of the Vine programme to please warn your customers if a game is not playable without purchasing an additional product.**** UPDATE **** OK,mug that I am, I bought MS FSX, so I could try both this and the Discover Great Britain add-ons. Whilst the aircraft are well detailed, this add-on is severely limited to just a couple of missions and the absence of any interaction with the scenery or the "enemy" makes it the least exciting war sim I have ever come across. The only plus is that you get a couple of unusual aircraft to add to your FSX collection and, I have to admit, that it's pretty cool flying a Stuka around the home counties. So far, Stuka Vs Hurricane doesn't seem to be plagued by the same bugs that blighted Discover Great Britain. So, to summarise, I'm very pleased to have received this as a freebie, but had I coughed up £20+ for it, would have felt very short-changed.

Graphics - full marks. Both aircraft are rendered superbly. Every little detail has been taken care of, the sound, the handling, the paintwork.Flying them - full marks. Again the attention to detail is first class. To get the Stuka to dive fast enough to get the airhorn to create the distinctive sound requires a lot of speed from quite a height, much higher and faster than I had imagined. The Hurricane is a great stable low level bus.The reason I have docked a couple of points of the package is due to the limited nature of the whole thing. Because it is an add on for FSX there is no interaction with the planes surroundings. Nothing can be shot up, nothing gets hit by the bombs, there are no other suitable aircraft to interact with. So once you have flown them a couple of times the thrill starts to wear off.As an insight to what the pilots were faced with I would rate the Stuka higher than the Hurricane. To be in a plane diving straight towards the ground with the engine flat to the board, avoiding flak and trying to hit a target just before you run out of enough ground clearance to pull up again must have taken real nerve.Overall an interesting insight provided through superbly recreated aircraft, but not one to get a lot of repeated use.

Firstly, can I repeat the warning from various other reviewers that you must have Microsoft F S X in order to play this game? It is an extension pack. This item promises a great deal, by taking iconic aircraft from World War II and inviting you to stretch them to the limit. Except there isn't much of a limit. The performance of both of these aircraft is limited compared to simulators of World War II fighter aircraft like the Spitfire or Mustang. The cockpit view is again curtailed, and dominated by rather unresponsive instruments. Combat opportunities are virtually non-existent, and the promise of the publicity material, at least tacitly, to involve ground attack missions is barely realised in any kind of impressive way at all.Save your money. Novelty value only.

To infrequent or novice pilots - this is not the game for you! Please do not be misled to buying this game with the intention of the game being a sole purchase as it is merely an add-on.Stuka vs. Hurricane may look like a full complete package to beginners but is merely an add-on for Microsoft FS2004 (Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004) and FSX (Microsoft Flight Simulator X).To be able to play the game either of these programmes have to be downloaded or installed on to your computer. This could possibly come as an unnecessary to new players who have already splashed out on purchasing this game which can amount to a hefty expense.Without being careful you could easily spend more money thanintended.

First of all, I'm not really a gamer although I do try the odd one - on a whim and then forget it. This is one which is very forgettable because of it's limitations and quite frankly it's also overpriced. It's also an "add on" and if I'm correct it won't run as a standalone game as mentioned by another reviewer.Their web site ignored a few initial enquiries as well and I made a mental note to ignore games produced from this company. The action and graphics are pretty much what you'd expect but after a few "sorties" you lose interest. I'm not sure whether it's because I'm adult and have higher expectations or not young enough to enjoy this type of game.

I prefered this to the "Discover Great Britain" add-on - mainly as I was interested in World War 2 aircraft as a young 'un, and the Stuka was a plane that fascinated. As with the main Microsoft Flight Simulator X software, the graphics are smooth and detailed, even on my three year old (Vista) PC.The other aircraft in the add-on pack is the MK IIC Hurricane, which looks great, but cannot compete with the thrill of the screaming dive of the Stuka.I'd recommend this add-on once you've tired of the aircraft in the main Microsoft Flight Simulator X software. Now, how about a Harrier Jump Jet add-on Microsoft?

This is an expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and 2004 allowing you to fly a Hurricane and a Stuka. This seems to be aimed at the casual flight sim player as the cockpit functionality is quite limited. The models are excellent, but not quite perfect as there are some bits of the aircraft that are not totally accurate. The aircraft fly very well and are very enjoyable to fly. This is a pretty good expansion, no doubt tying in with the battle of britain memorial year. So if you like your WWII planes and have MS Flight sim X or 2k4 its well worth a look at. Just dont expect perfect 100% accuracy.

I was a little disappointed with this game. True enough, the 'planes themselves handle well enough and the detailing is quite good (though not perfect) but I really think the title leads you to imagine that you can pit one plane against the other in aerial combat (having your very own little "Adlertag" perhaps?) but you cannot. You can only fly one and then fly the other - so the use of "versus" in the title I found rather misleading.Still, as far as it goes, it is quite entertaining but look elsewhere if it's airborne thrills and spills you're after.

27.9.2010

You get the impression you can fly one against another in combat but it is not a shoot them down game at all.You fly one at a time and that is about it. As other reviewers have pointed it it is an "add on" so you do need Microsoft Flight Simulator version 2004 or FSX.The sound is very good, the appearance also rates highly but the flying characteristics not so good.It does not stall correctly on either model so flying them is just a bit too easy and a feature of most aircraft in Flight Simulator.

26.10.2010

I might not be the best person to review this ad-on, as I find MS FSX a little boring. You see, it is very detailed in its flight model, but you can only really fly.So this add-on is much the same. I'm sure the new models are very detailed, but all you can really do is fly. In a simulation of a combat aircraft, I would rather be able to also do just that; engage in combat. For a hard core FSX aircraft collector, this is a great addition.Personally, I'll stick to IL2.

I thought this product would be a real challenge for my flight sim chops - I'd never gone into battle against another plane for one. But you don't get to fight anyone at all, you just get to compare both planes by flying one then the other. The graphics are so-so, with some of the cockpit not exactly jumping out. Other planes in the standard game are rendered better I think.Overpriced for what it is.

If like me you are a middle aged, overweight, blad, booze chugging gent, then this is the sim for you. I like to play it with my joystick, lights off, family pack of Kettle chips and beverages. Once sufficiently bladdered I start it off and make low budget WW film nonesence utterings like whurrrrr, dive dive dive, got in himmell, schnell schnell, dummkopf and of course 'you swinehund'. Great stuff.

18.10.2010

I gave this to my partner who has MICROSOFT FSX and could therefore use this add on. He reported back that the planes flying characteristics are fairly accurate according to reports given by the pilots of the original aircraft. He also thought that the planes details were accurate but he would have liked the price to be less than £10 to represent value for money.

23.12.2010

Dumb of me I know and the first time I have ever made this mistake, but despite checking and checking again I didn't realise this product needs Microsoft Flight Sim already installed to work.A note of caution for others and hopefully my stupidity might help others not make the same mistake!
