Spring is almost here, and with three versions of Street Fighter IV and two installments of Marvel VS Capcom 3 in the rear-view, Capcom is unleashing the much ballyhooed Street Fighter X Tekken (hereafter SXT) to the frothing "take my money for a new hat!" fanbase of fighting games.Visually resembling Street Fighter IV, and playing like a hodgepodge of fighters past, SXT has the daunting task of appeasing Tekken loyalists and Street Fighter fanatics, which is about as easy as catching a bus ... that never stops.Wisely eschewing SFIV's methodical pace for something more manic, SXT biggest influences are Capcom's own Darkstalkers series, with its tap-tap-tap chain combos, and Namco's Tekken Tag Tournament, with its tag-out juggles and constant life management. Unlike Capcom's VS series, where each character on the team has to be KO'd before victory, SXT requires the defeat of only one member, so tagging haphazardly is a nice way to get to the back of the line.In addition to the accessible combo system and frantic tagouts, SXT also has gems, not unlike Marvel Super Heroes Infinity Gems, though in SXT's case, gems are set before matches and have unique unlock aspects and various attributes, from being able to tech out of throws to defensive increase to gauge boosting and so on.Can you disable these? No. Is it a worthwhile addition? To be determined. Currently, the game is too new to worry about balance, but the potential is certainly there for game-breaking nonsense. The most disconcerting aspect is Capcom plans on selling gem packs in the store, which could potentially tip the scales to players who pay to play better. It's a fine line that I wouldn't even want to walk, but Capcom seems ready dance on it.Regardless of your interest in the gem system, Capcom should have included a option to disable them. A lot of effort has seemingly gone into the gems and their balance; however, I'm sure purists would like the option to duke it out with fists and fireballs alone.Anyway, like any new fighting system worth its salt, SXT is packed with its own glossary. Behold, optic blast! I mean, term blast! Cross Arts, Cross Assaults, Cross Cancels, Cross Rush, Switch Cancels, Pandora mode, and the more widely known EX Specials and Super Arts. Does that jargon mean anything to you? Of course it does.My point is SXT has its fair share of new ways to pummel your opponent, and new modes to do it in as well. Two Player Pair Play is present, which is essentially co-op, where you and your friend team up to tag out. The PS3 version also allows you to play online against other teams. Along with Pair Play, SXT also features Scramble Battle, which roughly translates to Chaos Battle, or "Damn Dude What the *&$%" Battle. Instead of tagging, both members of each team go into battle simultaneously. Alpha 3 had a similar mode, but it was two on one; that's not nearly enough yolk for proper scramble.Anyway, what's important is the game is a lot of fun to play. Chaining combos and launching into tag combos and performing tag supers is just awesome. Zangief piling driving Kuma is awesome. The battle system is intricate enough for longevity but also simple enough for pick up and play have fun right away matches. It's Ryu versus Kazuya man. What's not to like?Well ... I would like more than 10 stages. I think that would be nice. Yeah, they're multi-tiered, but there's not Dead or Alive craziness going on. You'll feel like you've seen them all fairly quickly. One costume per character ... really Capcom? Oh wait. I should know better by now. But do Tekken players? Get ready to pay up to play dress up.The roster is just lacking. They're a lot of fighters out of the box, but the curious absences are magnified in knowing they're being held, on the disc mind you, as downloadable content. I want Lei Woolong now, damn it!The character specific dialogue is a nice touch, along with some team specific intros, but I would have liked to have seen a bonkers story mode with Mortal Kombat style cutscenes. It's Street Fighter X Tekken, Capcom ... it's a once in a lifetime (or twice in a year, counting the Vita version) opportunity to craft the most gonzo story of all fighting games. All in all, it's better than it has any right to be, and the most impressive aspect is that in rolling various aspects of previous fighters into a one package, Capcom has created something inherently its own.Give it a go if you're a fan of the genre, but be mindful of the squeeze Capcom will put on your wallet when the inevitable Closet and Rest of Game packs are released.Until then, here's to Kazuya dropping Ryu in a volcano.

Not a big surprise, but the internet is overreacting again. Yes, there will be 12 DLC characters you can choose to pay for, but there are already 40 to pick from at the start. Let me explain the whole situation so the problem isn't simplified to just "they want money".The Vita version of this game's selling point is the exclusivity of those said 12 characters, released in the fall of 2012. By keeping the characters locked on the disc, the plus sides are that they don't screw over Vita owners who are waiting on this and compatibility issues when playing online with someone who has different characters than you. We can't know quite yet, but it's likely those 12 characters haven't had balancing completed yet either. But anyway, how about the actual game itself? It is definitely much more fast-paced than SF4 and feels more like a classic Capcom fighting game due to the absence of randomness and rewarding mistakes, i.e. no comeback mechanic, per se. There does exist something that may appear to be such a thing at first, but it's a huge risk, essentially involving you sacrificing one of your characters and having 7 seconds of refillable super meter, but after that, your character dies if you couldn't legitimately finish the opponent. There are neat 2vs2 options, with the option to play with a friend versus the CPU, or have four people total team up against each other, even going so far as to have all four characters on the screen at once going at it. Someone commented on the inputs being easier than SF4 earlier, and that's true to a point. There are easier input modes that will end up limiting you more than helping; the only notable change is that supers have a more Marvel-style of input, using one motion with three punches/kicks, i.e. a fireball super would be qcf+PPP. Everyone has a special move that can be charged to be an EX, or longer to be a full super for no meter, and storing this charge saves a counterhit for your next move. The combo system is something between Darkstalkers and Tekken. It has bounds, wallslams, chains, links, and your best combos will involve all of the above, with even tag cancels and team supers thrown in - it's crazy, but not as hard as you'd think. I'm normally not so great at combos but can do the optimal ones for my characters. The music is even a cross between Capcom and Tekken style, and quite good. I enjoy the stages as well, as there are a LOT of cameos and hilarious exchanges going on in the background, as the stages are also multi-tiered as Tekken levels commonly are. Though you see only 10 or so stages on the stage select screen, there are in truth something more like 20 or so due to how the stage changes to a different area or time each round. In short, it's not very much like SF4, at all. If you enjoyed the older games and team mechanics sound fun to you, do give it a shot. Those 12 characters down the road are somewhat of an unfortunate inconvenience, but that shouldn't lead you to view the entire game experience as a waste.

The SFxT "pre-season" has been filled with all sorts of drama, anger, joy, anticipation, doubt,"Capcom hate", "Capcom love", controversy, and general hype. I must admit, it was pretty funto follow all of the madness over the past 2 years. But, the pre-season is over. Time to ignore all the nonsense and focus on the game itself. As with any video game purchase (or any purchase, in general), there is only one question to ask:IS WHAT I GET WORTH WHAT I PAY?The answer is YES.Street Fighter X Tekken is literally THE most content filled Capcom fighting game EVER RELEASED.That is not hyperbole. This is a statement of fact.FEATURES:-Massive 43 character roster (38 characters for X-Box)is already worth the price of admission.Everyone should be able to find someone to play in this game.-Simplified control options help newcomers enjoy, while hardcore players can still find layers and layersof depth to explore. You don't have to be a pro player to find enjoyment here.-Training and mission modes help teach players the ropes.-Fast paced TAG TEAM action. This is not SF4. Don't expect it to play like SF4. It's a brand new ball game.-Customizable "Gem System" allows each player to modify their fighter's stats.Reflect upon your own strengths and weaknesses, and creating your fighting team.Personalize your experience.-Multiplayer modes allow for 1 player vs 1 player, 1 player vs 2 player, and 2 players vs 2 players.Up to FOUR PLAYERS can join in on the fun, simultaneously!Warning, scramble Mode will blow your mind...-3D CG endings for the people who complained about SF4's budget endings.-Fun character interactions! This IS Street Fighter vs Tekken, after all. In addition to the fights,it's amusing to watch the various cut-scenes and endings where iconic characters get in each other's faces for the first time.-Color customization options, with free DLC color packs planned for the future.-Lots of online modes, including lobbies, spectator, 4 player matches, and even ONLINE TRAINING MODE (<---awesome idea)-Capcom promises to support this game post release with DLC and a whopping $500,000 in tournament prize money over the year. This fighting game community is going to be hopping with excitement for quite a while.Capcom has put a lot of effort into this game, and it shows. Top players have tried the game out,and they've said it's one of the best fighting games in years. I don't know what else there is to say.You will get your money's worth here.

This game is just surprising i own soul caliber 2, Tekken Tag Team Tournament 2,Virtua Fight 5,project justice and Mortal Kombat 9 and Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, now this and i was pleasantly surprised because this is the first fighter i can not just play and easily find way through the game and just demolish anyone who ever comes over for some local or online multiplayer action this is very complex usually i don't care about which controller i use i just demolish now this game i must say it's better to play with the analog stick instead of the d-pad i never had a preference until now but Analog over d-pad all the way this is an amazing game with PS3 Exclusive which are awesome Cole, and those two Japanese comedy relief characters Toro and Kuro i say pick this up on PS3 if your new to fighting games, this is a pool you might be scared to dip your feet in but i say take the chance and swim because it's one heck of a ride and hey the online players are still heavy on the servers and may i add 4 player local Gameplay and yes that 4 Controllers at the same time on one screen kicking each others buttocks.Pffft Thank Me Later

Fighting game fans around the world jizzed themselves when Street Fighter X Tekken was announced in 2010. And after playing the game in 2015, I have to say that it lives up to most of the hype, but has a few flaws. The Pros: Excellent graphics, responsive fighting mechanics and stunning character designs. The Cons: The fight moves are unbalanced with the Tekken characters having far more combinations and attack moves than their Street Fighter counterparts. Also, the training mode could (SHOULD) have included a feature that demonstrated every attack and showed the players how it's supposed to look. Mashing the same buttons as the move list and not knowing if you're executing the move properly is a big let down.Especially when you're starting out.For the faulty training mode, as well as the slightly unbalanced roster strength, I'd say I wasn't completely blown away by the game. But I certainly enjoy playing it.

If you're not a fighting games fan, this won't convert you. If you love Street Fighter 4 (or even if you haven't played anything since Street Fighter 2) I'm sure you'll adore this. The game's animation is fantastic, hugely detailed, funny and hugely memorable, the controls are very easy to pick up but tough to become a ninja at (there's a good training mode which is helpful) and the story as good as you'd hope for from a cross-over fighting game. The bonus edition comes with a very, very short comic, which (for all its brevity) is really cool and a very funky little arcade machine money box. I personally don't rate the 'gems' either way, they don't add or detract for me,getting a load extra with the special edition doesn't sway me either way. It's a great cast of characters, superbly drawn, so much fun to play, hilarious dialogue, really, really fun. Love it.

Trying to keep this short and sweet for the people who have yet to purchase this game. As others have stated, this game is probably more suited to "Street Fighter" fans over "Tekken" fans, but I believe any fan of the fighting genre would be happy with this game(as it is loaded with a variety of modes, characters, and a few original features, too). Although the online aspect of this game was basically broken when it was first released, that has since been fixed with a patch, and most of the online battles play wonderfully, with hardly any lag or slowdown. For $20 bucks, this game is a total steal, so even casual fighting fans would be wise to pick this one up. In fact, I'm a little surprised it's so cheap.Wish I would've waited six months :(

An interesting Go-between of two distinct fighting games, this has the "2.5D" style of Street Fighter 4 (The characters are rendered in 3D but they move only from side to side like classic 2D fighting games), i actually look forward to the second game where it is done in a Tekken style of game play. The interesting thing about this game is that the PS Vita version has a voucher for extra characters that are playable on both the PS3 and Vita versions of the game. So i will say that it may be a better idea to get the Vita version of this game as it has more characters from the get-go.

Love how these two worlds collide, I dig the quirky Tekken characters, especially the animal and animal type characters, like the Bear, (Grizzly!?) Panda, Roger the Kangaroo, and King of course! Great little title and the price was very good from an online retailer in Southern Ontario! for a used game it was kept in great shape. box and disc in impeccable shape. Anyway if you want to really know more about the game and if it's worth a purchase for you, go read reviews on Metacritic/ IGN/ GT etc.

I am an old fan of both series, that's why I found the game cool. The game is not bad to play though. However it is quite simiplistic, They could have done a so much better work. And another thing that being a fan or not is incredibly annoying is that you have so few characters (and there is no way to unlock the others) that you would feel like playing a 3D version of Street Fighter II.

this game is fun and i am a huge street fighter fan i at first thought that crossing the tekken and street fighter charaters was a great idea but didn't think they would do it so well. its a fun game and its great when you get the hang of the tag aspect like tekken tag implements. over all this game is great and now that its $20 you cant go wrong for any fighter fan

Playing this game, especially with fight stick-peripherals brings upon such a euphoric feeling in the folds of my girth, that I can feel my girth tingling as I type this! If I wasn't buried under Mountain Dew Code Red bottles and Hot Pocket boxes, I would get up and kiss the TV screen (Especially if Lili was on the screen). Oh yes!

12.1.2013

Very good game, making a mash-up between two of the most famous fighting sagas was one of the best decisions that Capcom and Namco could have ever made. Based on the Street Fighter IV platform, I found this game very challenging and funny. However that way to level up based on gems doesn't get me at all.

12.10.2013

The product was delivered in no time and the packaging came like new. The game is very entertaining and can deliver countless hours of fun. The game is more complex than other games like Mortal Kombat or Marvel vs. capcom, so I would recommend this game to fighting game aficionados.
