First, I've found all LED lights that make outragous claims of average battery life of dozens to hundreds of hours is either misleading or totally wrong... no matter what brand or where you bought them from. They either go totally dark in much less than half the rated time, or have gone too dim to even read large print with the light pressed closely to the page. To even get close to half the rated life, skip the alkalines, you must use expensive lithium or the highest capacity NiMi rechargables available on the planet. So they all lie about or misrepresent your actual battery life. I'm sure some of them, if you put the most expensive batteries in the world in them, run the light almost to their rated battery life,if you take them into a fully darkend room, & hold the light to your face, strain your eyes, you will find the LEDs are still glowing very faintly... but that's not useful light.I haven't found AAAA rechargables or lithiums, but you won't need them. This is the only LED light I ever found that doesn't give you bull on battery life. It uses a single LED & 3 AAAA alkaline batteries that can be obtained cheap from many sources. Slightly longer than an oridinary pen, I take it everywhere, & is always with me at work. As an engineer, I've used it several times daily for over 6 months with the original batteries. I thought it might be getting a little dimmer so recently put fresh batteries in it. Although it got brighter, not significantly, so I put the old batteries back in. This light just won't die. Lot's brighter than any keychain light, it's as useful as most big lights. It fell 14' from a ladder onto solid concrete, into puddles, snow, & got paint & glue on it. Using harsh chemicals & scraping to get all the paint & glue off, it still looks & works like brand new. I don't know what they used to paint that light with, but there's not a scatch on it anywhere... no dents yet either. Solid & durable. Your best light will be the one that works when you need it to, & is close at hand. Best $14 I ever spent!Update: AAAA Batteries can be found right here at amazon. Just type AAAA or streamlight in the search box. The streamlight AAAA 6-pack runs $6-$7 & are really alkaline energizers. Also if you tear off the metal around a "copper top" alkaline 9 volt battery with a couple of pliers you'll find 6 aaaa batteries inside. But beware... the AAAAs inside the 9 volt battery have the polarity reversed! So you must put those in your light BACKWARDS. You should also stretch the light's spring out a little for a tight fit & better contact. This won't effect it if you go back to ordinary batteries, just make sure to get the polarity right.

For all the people looking for a honest review look no further. I use the UV Streamlight to authenticate Driver's Licenses & Identification Cards. I work at a bar in Atlantic City & check hundreds & close to thousands of id's a night. I can tell you that this is the only blacklight i will use. its small so it's easy to handle. easy to work because it is push activated or you can turn the cap and it can stay locked on if there is a long line of people. The output beam is bright enough to where you don't have to hold it too close to the ID in order to see the holograms. If you're looking to get this for the same reasons i do, i highly recommend getting this piece of equipment.I've shown countless people how to use this to find fake ID's & every bartender, bouncer, & manager i've shown now have the same blacklight in their bars. It's a must. The only downfalls:1) The batteries last a while if you only push activate the pen. however, if you keep it locked to the on position, the battery will drain quickly. Not saying in a night or two but i use this thing 6-7 hours a night for 4 days a week & i have to replace the batteries maybe once every 4 weeks. A 2 pack of batteries cost $3.00 at a CVS store to replace so it's not bad.2) Try not to drop it, bang it into things, throw it up in the air to catch it, etc. I dropped my very first one on several occasions because i was messing around & It would fall onto the ground/ concrete & after a couple times, as you can imagine, the pen would only work every so often. The light would dim, replacement batteries wouldnt work, etc. I'm pretty sure it isnt the sturdiest thing & if you bang it up, the mechanics will suffer. Long story short, keep it in your pocket when you aren't using it.those are really the only downfalls. i would definitely recommend this pen if you work in the nightlife industry and want to keep underage kids out of your bar. but don't think it's full proof. brush up on fake id's, they are getting good now-a-days and you need to know real holograms from fake.

I'm an M.D. in the US and I got this to use as an exam penlight for patients in the hospital and clinic. Other posters have commented that it is too bright for that purpose but I vehemently disagree with assessment. If you want a good pupil exam you need a bright light, especially when you're doing an exam around all the halogen lighting in the clinic and hospital, and even moreso when examining inpatients getting frequent IV narcotics with constricted pupils. If you want a good exam and you're actually trying to find an RAPD or real pathology then you need a bright light like this one provides. If you're just shining a light in someone's face so that you document "PERRL" and bill for the physical exam then keep your cheap penlight, but you're likely not getting a good exam. This will likely feel insanely bright compared to your current penlight, but my patient's haven't complained. And if need be you can just shine the edge of the beam into your patient's eye for their comfort, and if there's no response you can keep moving inward to shine all of the beam through the pupil if that's what it takes to get constriction. As far as the light itself, it feels very solidly constructed and I use the plastic/rubbery tip on the end to protect the LED. At first I thought it would bother me that you have to hold down the button to keep it on but it turns out this doesn't create any issues during my examination, and in the rare time that I need it to stay on it's very easy to twist the cap and make it stay lit. Otherwise, not having an on/off switch means that I never accidentally leave it on and burn through batteries. So if you're looking to use this as an exam penlight, I highly recommend it!

After buying the Stylus, I now own four Streamlights, the others being the Stylus pro, Micro Stream and Nano. All have worked flawlessly since I've had them and I use them quite a bit. I also like Fenix lights, but based on my experience the Streamlights are a bit more reliable. This is an excellent penlight to have in the car, or at your desk or in the toolbox. It's perfect for tight spaces, yet bright enough for general use. It's small and thin enough to hold in your mouth if you're working on something and need both hands free (for example fixing the plumbing under the sink). The tailcap button is for momentary-on and you twist the tailcap for constant on. The beam has a nice wide dispersion. The LED is exposed, however it doesn't seem fragile, like a light bulb. It comes with a black plastic cap with a hole in the end, which can be used to protect the LED or to act as a beam narrower. Either way, I probably won't use it since it reduces brightness and I'd end up losing it anyway. If you don't need a light this thin, also consider the Streamlight Pro, which is thicker but also an inch shorter and slightly heavier than this one. I'm glad I have both, but if I could only have one, I'd keep the Stylus Pro which is significantly brighter and uses 2 AA's.My only suggestion for improvement would be to shorten it so it uses 2 batteries instead of three, which would make it a more convenient size. It doesn't seem as bright as it should be for using 3 cells, and they could probably achieve the same brightness or close, with 2 cells (albeit at the cost of a little battery life).

I work the door at a local bar and I needed a small handheld UV light capable of checking IDs, passports, etc, as they have hidden symbols that only appear under certain wavelengths of UV light. A lot of the UV flashlights do not put out 360-380 nanometers of UV light even though they are sold saying they are in that wavelength, and as such, will not show the symbols. Originally I was set on buying a Streamlight Night Com UV, but with how expensive C batteries are, I changed my mind and went with this instead. Something to remember if you're going to order this, it's *NOT* super bright. It's not going to make things fluoresce across a room. It wasn't designed for that. And to the people complaining about its lack of brightness, it's 365 nm. That's outside the spectrum of light that the human eye can see. Most of the light it is putting out . . . Is literally invisible to the naked human eye.Initial thoughts (only had it a day) - Feels very well built. Solid. Puts out exactly the right amount of light for what I need it for, without exposing me or customers to higher than needed levels of UV light which IS very harmful. Label says 365 nm. I believe it. It shows all the symbols very well on IDs, shows currency strips in money pretty well also. Seems like a pretty precise tool. We'll see how much of a pain it is to find AAAA batteries. But it shouldn't be that hard.Very impressed. Very satisfied. Would definitely recommend it to any looking for something of this size and wavelength.

I have had mine for over a month now and use it every chance I get. This thing has a decently bright light beam considering the size of it and the battery life it has. I use mine with the black light guard that slides right onto the front of it over the LED and it stays in place nicely. It feels pretty sturdy and I haven't had any mechanical problems with it and hope not to for quite some time. For the price, you can't beat it. The Energizer pen light that is like $16 in stores is good but it has one downfall that this does not... the plastic pocket clip breaks easily when this one has a metal clip on pocket clip that isn't going to break unless you intend to try and break it for some reason?Over all this thing is great for the price and can't be beat until you go up $30-40. Keep in mind what you want this used for though. Some reviews say they needed a light for the medical field and trust me, you don't want this shined in your eyes but as far as ears and the mouth go it's set. I also recommend the silver over the other colors. Not because it looks better but because of this scenario. You are camping out in the woods and you are doing something away from camp at night. You realize you need your light to see well so you reach for it and it fumbles out of your hand and is on the ground. Black can be very hard to see at night and Red is a common color in nature so if you even find anything red, it might not be it. Silver on the other hand, sticks out like sore thumb.

I work in a restaurant and often need to go looking for bottles of wine. Where we store the wine is very poorly lit, and I cannot turn up the lights (since they are on the same dimmer as the restaurant lights...lame.) Anyhoo...the Mag lights always seem to get left on and the batteries go dead so finally one day I decided to look for a little pen light to keep on my person. I stumbled across this one and liked what reviewers were saying. The price was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but I pulled the trigger anyway and am glad I did. This is built like a SureFire. It's black-anodized aluminum with a very bright LED. I am not sure if I like the fact that you must hold down the button to keep the light on,but I will never be out of batteries due to it being left on! All in all I am very pleased with it, and have even found it comes in handy in the car. The only negative I can think of is you can rattle the batteries a bit, but it's not enough of a gripe to ding it a star. Best pen light I've seen.***UPDATE***2/25/2013I've been using this light now for about a year and it still works great. I am still using the original batteries and the light is still strong. I discovered that if you twist the end cap all the way in, the light stays on without holding down the button for those who care. Sometimes that feature is handy. This is an excellent light.

The first thing that at least I noticed about this penlight was that it's pretty LONG; almost an inch longer than most of the pens I keep around. But that's really not a huge deal. No, the most impressive thing about this light is that it's solid, durable, and long-lived. It feels like you could beat someone to death with it (if it weighed more; it really isn't heavier than a pen) and have the thing still come out working like a champ. It produces a bright, slightly blued beam (it claims white, but mine is decidedly more of a white-blue than a pure white) and I've used it for a few hours now without noticing any degradation of the batteries.Speaking about the batteries takes us into the negative points, though. The batteries- they're "AAAA"s, hard to find at the best of times. Shake the body, and the batteries inside rattle loudly. There's no way to lock the light on; you have to press and hold it if you want it to stay lit. And the little bulb that covers the LED should probably be recessed into the casing for protection, though it comes with a little plastic cap you can put on the end that adds a bit of length and some protection to it.Those little quibbles aside, though- for the price, it's an excellent penlight, durable, bright, long-lived, and very portable. Not only do I recommend it, I've bought a bunch more.

I bought this for my mom who is a CNA and must go in dark rooms to input vitals on a computer. She had told me she just turns on the bathroom light to accomplish this so I thought a flashlight was needed. She said she tried flashlights but the batteries don't last long when you are using all night long. So I did some research and found this penlight that allegedly win run 60 hours. It hasn't been put through the test yet but I can say for now it looks promising. She said its bright enough. I bought a lanyard with a disconnect so she can wear it around her neck. She tends to misplace things so this should work out well. It's very lightweight so as to be unnoticeable. I got the American flag version and it looks good. The only reason it gets 4 out of 5 stars is because there is no lanyard ring on the light. I think it's a small detail that can make a big difference. I attached lanyard to the pen clip and it works for now. I will have to modify it because it rubs against the sharp edges on pen clip and over time it will eventually cut through the lanyard string. Maybe I'll use a rubber band to keep it from moving on the pen clip. As I said, it's a small detail but it changes the way one could wear this light in a job situation with constant need to be easily accessible while minimizing misplacementt/loss.

So, after doing some research, Streamlight used to have a 375 nm version of this. Therefore the product description on the Amazon page is technically wrong. This is labeled as the 365 nm version on the packaging. However, most LED's actually have a range of wavelengths ie. 360 nm to 390 nm, peaking at a certain wavelength in the middle, maybe 375 nm.It definitely works on the $100 bill (so 365 nm is technically correct), but it's not as bright as you'd think. It is hard to see. I've also used this light on the pet urine (at least 380 nm), it has medium intensity.Wasn't able to find random blood sitting around (I guess that's a good thing), so I haven't been able to confirm if this reached 400+ nm,but it's probably unlikely.I know a lot of people keep saying the light is at the edge of visible light, but you can judge the intensity of the LED by looking at how florescent the object is, which sadly to say is usually dim. But if you're using this to detect counterfeit money, checking ID's, looking for coolant leaks, washing pet urine, etc... it'll still work.Since most 365 nm lights are pretty expensive on the market, this pen still is good bang for your buck. I just wish the intensity didn't fall out so much at the 365 nm mark. Overall, I'd still recommend it.

I have many tactical and high quality flashlights and am very familiar with brands like Streamlight, Coast, SureFire, and BlackHawk. With that said I am impressed by this wonderful little light, especially in this cool anodized blue color. It will carry and fit in places where other lights won't. I always carry one at the ready in one of my fanny pack pockets. It will carry equally as well in shirt or purse pocket. It does use somewhat uncommon AAAA batteries... I ordered them here at Amazon (love this place!) and they are reasonably priced. Don't know how long they last yet. But the brightness and the form factor of this little Streamlight truly make this a standout in tiny lights. Finally its even serial numbered. What's that mean? That's just a manufacturer's way to let you know they believe in the quality of the light. Includes a friction mounted light protector that I think might be better served on the switch end to prevent inadvertent actuation. No matter: just make sure you unscrew the back switch adequately when you're done so it doesn't get turned on accidentally. Everyone should always have a light on them and Streamlight Stylus makes that an easy and comfortable proposition.

I've been using this for a couple weeks now in the hospital to perform neuro exams. It has been very useful in that it's easy to operate by holding down the button and has a narrow beam so that I can easily see a crisp pupillary reflex without dealing with the pupil gradually constricting as I bring my light closer. As far as safety is concerned, I have no concerns that I would be doing any damage - this is no laser beam and less bright than if I was to walk outside on a sunny day in Florida (rare when was on my neurology rotation). I guess it could be uncomfortable if you kept it shining in someone's eyes, but not on a normal exam. And if you want to do the exam where you try to provoke nystagmus by temporality blinding someone (look it up,it's a good neuro test!), this would be the tool for you. It's a tad long, so I keep it in my larger coat pocket, not the breast pocket, but no biggie.I like the build because it looks and feels like a proper tool. The paint won't get easily chipped and the pieces won't loosen up over time like its popular, cheap predecessor. I haven't had to get replacement batteries yet, but I'm willing to pay that higher price to have to better form function.

I purchased this light to verify the validity of IDs and to use for identifying UV writing on IDs and it works perfectly...you can either push the button or screw it down for a constant light....It is small enough to fit in your shirt pocket or pants pocket....The frequency of the UV light(365nm) is perfect for the UV ink (writing and pictures)on all of the IDs that I have checked...The UV writing shows up very brightly, unlike some other UV lights that I have seen (id the UV light is the wrong frequency, it does not show up as well)....I highly recommend this product!!!from the manufacturer:[...]Includes an ultraviolet light for fluorescent detection of fraudulent documents and for use inforensic investigations.High-intensity 100,000 hour LED available in 365nm Ultraviolet.3.8 mW measured system output.3 "AAAA" size alkaline batteries.Features a momentary blink switch and constant on.Runs up to 24 continuous hours to the 10% lumen output level.IPX4 Rated for water resistant operation.Individually serialized.Pocket clip.Includes Glare Guard protector.L x D: 6.21" x .375" (15.17 x .95 cm)1.1 oz (31.19 g)Available in BlackAssembled in USA

I lost my Welch Allyn penlight. Twas a gift from long ago. Oh well. I think a little redhead pocketed it.The Streamligt arrived on time, well packaged. No problems.Item is perfect for eye exams. It is not too bright yet bright enough to be an overall good pocket light. I can hold the light 6-10 inches from my face and look directly at it with minimal discomfort. I can shade carotids, do oral/throat exams, view CT drainage/levels or whatever in a dark room when I want to avoid using the overhead lights. My only issue with this light is that it is a bit long for a shirt pocket but the pocket clip is adjustable. It is best kept inside a jacket pocket or pants pocket. Some reviewers for the Stylus state it is too bright for pupillary exams. My Streamlight is no where near the brightness of an otoscope. I feel it is the best pocket exam light I have ever used. Make sure you snap the protective end cap all the way down. Look thru the hole on the end. If the bulb is not close, you need to push harder. If you have trouble finding batteries, take a 9 volt battery apart. There are 6 AAAA inside. Taking a 9 volt apart requires a bit of patience and a few tools.

Okay first I ordered this stremlight 65022 ice blue I got it right away. but was not happy with the blue light it would not work for my use. you see I am a maintenance repair man. and I need a bright light with me all the time. so I sent it back and got the white light. the only thing neg. I can say about these Streamlight Stylus Flash Light is. You are going to need deep pockets to keep this thing from droping out.it is a bit to long. that pocket clip you see in the picture can be pushed only to a point because you need to twist the top part to keep the light on. or if you want you can hold the button in. but then you have to keep your finger on it no good for me. I need both my hands most of the time.very good looking flashlight everyone ask me where I got it. only one place to get it "AMAZON" I love this flashlight will not leave home without it. I will some day replace it when they come up with a shorter one. but for now I learn to live with it. the brightest I ever had and Handy all the time. always ready when I need it. I am still using the same batterys it came with. you can't beat that with a stick. so go ahead and get one you will love it.
