We bought our son a Switch for Christmas and recommended this to the grandparents as a game to give because it has minimal violence and we liked Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley.** When you buy this game, immediately check for an update before you play. We got stuck (the game wouldn't continue) and the developer was great and explained we needed to update. We did that, but it then required we started over with a new game. **The story in the game is that your character (you can choose male or female and the name, but not the appearance) is the child of a captain and you and a crew are leaving your city forever for some snowy northern location. Your ship gets shipwrecked and you wake up at a series of islands. You then learn to build and farm some things and find the crew. Each day you can make a stew for the crew with the food you grow and forage. If you add ingedients that the crew likes you get a bonus "point" and each time you reach about 16 points you get a gift which helps you level up your character, what you can carry, how big your farm can be, etc. You also learn how to fish (tip: the pier is worth it). You also learn to chop down trees. After the crew is reunited you discover the islands are cursed (this shouldn't be a spoiler because it's in the full game name). Then you complete a few quests to lift the curse. There is mild fighting (like Zelda or Oceanhorn/the first mines in Stardew Valley), but nothing very hard.It is a fun game if you like this kind of thing. Parts of it do require going back and forth between different locations. Unlike some other games I've mentioned there is no romance/marriage candidates.I found the most frustrating part of the game was creating recipes. You do need to do this so that you have enough food with you when you need to go into battle or row to another island. The recipes are cute and fun, but there are no clues to start off. For example, you might see a recipe needs 4 ingredients and you have 16 ingredients. But not only do you need to figure out which 4 of 16, but where they go in the grid. It's very similar to the game mastermind, which is really cool at first, but later on there are too many possible ingredients to be fun. Looking up recipes online can help. Also, if you get 1-2 new ingredients, immediately try to figure out the new recipes that appear because you can already be pretty sure that one or both of those ingredients will be in it.I did find the farming more fun than Harvest Moon because the crops don't die from neglect and they look really cool. You don't have to water things every day or worry about the weather. It is also helpful that the other characters names help you figure out who is who through alliteration (the farmer's name starts with an F, the blacksmith with a B, etc). The graphics are really pretty and the background music is very relaxing. The graphics are really cool on the final island that "unlocks".Overall, I really enjoyed this game, but found the final part a bit anticlimatic/drawn-out (after my character chose to lift the curse). I would still recommend it, especially if you like foraging.

A great little exploration survival game with a very nice color palette, very well tied into the controls of the Nintendo Switch. It's a short game when it comes to story and very linear, but it intends not to be bigger than that. All the mechanics you'd expect are compelling and well executed, as is the balance on the energy meter which is challenging, but not overbearing.Overall a joy to play.

Love this game!, totally addicted. Great fun exploring the Islands and completing quests. Recipe's are a fun idea and love all the tasks like finding different wood to chop down and different fish to catch.
