Despite being plastic, it's very good plastic, well manufactured and fit together is superb. The design of the unit should be well sealed, there was an eco system residing in my old external light, which I humanly rehomed. UK buyers need to check their home wire colour coding, as the black on the unit is live, the blue neutral and the brown is not an earth. If unsure check with an electrician. Fitting was straight forward, although instructions are not the best, and in small print. Be careful not to overtighten the mounting screws, it is strong, but it's also plastic. I would have preferred the hood screws to mount from underneath, as changing the bulb will require elevation to see what you're doing, also for the hood, I would have preferred to screw into in-moulded nuts, for longevity. Once fitted you'd have to give it a good tap to realise it's plastic. It's lightweight in material but on the wall is very sturdy. Adjusted it works very well too, switches on with a positive click when it detects motion, easily adjusted for daylight and time settings. The directional PIR is looser than I would like, and it cannot be locked in the desired position, could do with being a bit tighter.Overall, so far very pleased, I expect long years of service from this one.

Being made of plastic, I was worried it would give a cheap look to the front of the house, which is not what you want.On the contrary, I was really pleased with its looks (pic. attached) and being made of plastic it won't corrode or start to peel off the paint, like the original one did, which looked horrible.Wiring it couldn't be easier. Connect your house live to the live wire on the lamp and the neutral from the house to the neutral of the lamp. That's it. Worked perfectly. With the sensor able to detect from quite a distance, I just had to point it downwards so it wouldn't switch on the light when a car passed in front of the house, but rather only when someone was approaching the front door.To replace the bulb, there are 2 small metal screws on the top of the lamp so you can remove the cover. To avoid the screws getting corroded in the long run, I just covered their heads in silicone grease which makes it waterproof but doesn't set like a silicone sealant. With a reasonable price and only a few minutes to install, it really revamped the looks of my front door.It was a good investment.

I just put one of these up and I was impressed with it. I bought this for the good sensor - 180 degrees (a must for where this one is located), long range, and you can adjust the angle. There are 2 rotary dials for the LUX and timer settings. A lot of the competition can't do all these this.Yes it's plastic, but it is not _cheap_ plastic. It's strong, looks good and should keep it's colour and not corrode. The glass has a bezel which adds a touch of quality too. The lid is held on with 2 screws from the top so time will tell if these corrode and are difficult to remove when the bulb needs changing. I guess it might be a good idea to put a spot of paint / oil / Vaseline on the screw heads to prevent this, but I didn't!Wiring is straightforward (live to the black wire, neutral to the centre connector, nothing to the top one). It doesn't have the easy clip connector blocks which would have been a bonus but it was okay.It comes with a 3 year guarantee but judging by the quality of the unit I don't think I'll need it. Cheaper ones will no doubt fail in that time. Buy cheap, buy twice...

The light is expensive but it is well worth it, looks good and does the job. I have had several security lights in the £30 bracket which have not lasted much more than a year, the sensors became faulty. This one you can alter the angle of the sensor thus reducing the area required, also the lux setting covers a greater scope and set on the highest setting you can adjust the lamp during daytime, then alter the lux accordingly. It is all plastic moulded very light in weight and will not rot or flake, very well sealed the best I have seen for design. I have only had it a few months but the price may be on the quality of the sensor I hope. ( does not come on and off when it is windy, which is a good thing, can be adjusted by lowering the sensor slightly if you get this problem).

This is my third lantern having purchased the first two some 5 years ago. I am pleased to report the other two still look almost new. The lanterns are made of a very high grade plastic which might be off putting to some but does not detract from the look or operation. My only criticism, and reason for four not five stars is the lid is secured by two small soft metal screws which over time do become corroded and I recently had to drill them out when the cross head just mangled whilst attempting to remove them. I’ve replaced them with a larger diameter which should be strong enough to not succumb to being removed in future. Good, but not great, German engineering

The light functions as you'd expect. The motion sensor is excellent, you can adjust the settings however you wish to make it suitable to your needs. You can add stick on blockers to adjust the angle. By default it's 180 degrees and can pick up motion from a fair distance away. The plastic is a nice satin finish plastic that isn't flimsy and feels like it'll last even though it's subjected to the elements.Assembling it was very easy, wiring it was a doddle and it's been working really nicely for a few months now. The only thing to note is that the light output is slightly limited and therefore not as bright as the spotlights are.

Some of the reviews here criticise this light for being plastic, which is ironic as this is the whole reason for choosing it! It's a good quality alternative to cheaper metal alloy ones from the Far East, which so quickly oxidise and turn white when the paint peels off. This light is precision moulded in a hard, satin finish black UV resistant plastic that should keep its look for years. It is most certainly is not thin or flimsy, as some reviewers have suggested. My only criticism would be that the wiring instructions are a bit confusing - check the little diagram moulded into the wall mounting plate, which makes this clearer.

So far so good. It has been in use now for about a month and works well. We keep the indoor light switch in the on position all the time and we haven't had early illumination before it goes dark or failure to come on when it is supposed to. The motion sensor is very good - it can be angled down to only pick up motion when fairly close or angled up to pick up movement further away. If this were a camera lens it would be very wide angle as it will pick up movement several feet away at almost 180 degrees. The sensor can be fine tuned with stick on blockers but we haven't needed them. Don't expect a floodlight as wattage is limited.

The lamp was as expected. Lightweight with adjustable sensor. The wiring guide was confusing. When we first installed the light the light was staying on all the time and sensor appeared not to work. We had wired it incorrectly. I have added a photo to show how we wired it to get the sensor to start working correctly.Connect UK live (red or brown) to lamp cable blackConnect neutral (black or blue) to lamp cable blueLeave lamp lilac/brown cable unconnected

I bought this to light up the front path and it does that very well. It took a bit of walking up and down the path to get the setting right as didn't want it coming on when someone walked past the house. It is a sturdy light and looks well. The only criticism is that as we were fitting it to red brick, we had to put a little sealer around it as it didn't fit very snuggly to the wall. Other than that I would recommend.

A good looking light with a good motion sensor. The sensor is a 'proper' one set below the lamp and not a small insignificant thing the size of a thumb nail. Hopefully this should last longer than the cheaper ones. It is made of plastic but that is not obvious when looking at it and hopefully it should last longer than the cheaper coated metal ones which do tend to 'pit' after time.

love this wall light its the only one I could get that faced straight down to the ground at your feet this stops it coming on into car drivers eyes as I live on a corner and makes it safe it can be made higher but it dose not move from side to side left or right but dose have a wide angle you can adjust this with the parts in box provided easy to follow easy to fix up

11.1.2020

Very nice looking lamp and the motion detector light works well. An electrician put it up for us in no time at all, though I am sure most people could do it themselves it was our choice not to. It looks good and very pleased with the purchase.

Needed something that would withstand harsh weather conditions and pleased with the look of the lights I purchased. Has reservations about looking like 'plastic' but they don't! They look good and they won't rust.

17.2.2021

Exactly what we needed for the approach to our front door.Easy to install, motions detecteor lights up immediately when door is opened, and you can adjust the level of light for activating sensor.
