These StarTech Mini DisplayPort to DVI Active Adapters work an absolute treat with my 6850's ~ I am using 2xDVi to DVi and 2x Active MiniDP to DVi cables, and now have 4 monitors running on each card and have Windows Experience scores of 7.7 & 7.7 out of 7.9 for Graphics & Gaming Graphics (on Win7 Ultimate 64bit).My situation was...I have 2 VTX3D Radeon HD 6850 X-Edition 1GB GDDR5 graphics cards.Each card has 2xDVi, 1xHDMi and 2x MiniDisplayPort.I wanted to use each card to run 4 DVi monitors...So I bought some (Passive) MiniDP to DVi adaptors (long story short... passive ones won't work for what I needed), so I did some more research, found these StarTech active cables are / should be compatible...But,

This item is very basic but has the huge plus point that it is all integrated and doesn't need a separate USB plug to power it. It looks like similar passive adapters but is indeed actively powered. The adapter is essential for nearly all AMD Radeon HD cards in order to use triple displays for an Eyefinity setup. (The third monitor uses this adapter so that you can make use of one of the mini display port sockets on your AMD card).The adapter comes in a simple plastic bag and has protective end caps fitted. The adapter in theory has a 2 year warranty with the manufacturer but no details are supplied regarding this.

I made the mistake of ordering a passive adapter to allow me to have 3 screens on my crossfired 6870's. This is an ACTIVE adapter that will allow you have 2 monitors plugged in with DVI and 1 plugged into the miniDP with this dongle. I believe that 3 screens is the maximum without specialist equipment.I'm running a strange setup - 17" 1280x1024 - 27" 1920x1080 - 17" 1280x1024 and this is working fine. Obviously this isn't an eyefinity setup (all monitors must be the same res for that), I'm simply extending my desktop to these screens for working.Nice, Cheap, and arrived the next day. I bought two of these active adapters for using three 24" monitors on a Mac Pro 5,1 with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card.The configuration is: Monitor 1 connected to ATI DVI input using a DVI-D cable. Monitors 2 & 3 connected to ATI Mini Display ports using the StarTech active adapters and two Dual Link DVI-D cables.It works perfectly at the full resolution of 1920 x 1080 - working with three monitors is bliss.These adaptors cost less than competing one and just work. Highly recommended.

I've tried a few of these mini adapters from different manufacturers now and, whilst these ones seem to be the best I've yet encountered, they are by no means perfect themselves and I've needed to return a couple which have suddenly gone faulty. It just seems to be the nature of this type of adapter unfortunately. To stay as safe as possible I would say NEVER HOTPLUG OR HOTSWAP these things, always turn your device off first before disconnecting the adapters.

I lost an Apple DVI adapter to metal fatigue and bought this to replace it. The cable is way thinner than the DVI cable that came with my Samsung monitor and a much better solution than the clunky and heavy DVI cable + DVI adapter combination I had before. It's a bit expensive but I had to have a black one. A single white cable in the collection of black ones that clutter my desk would have bugged me.

If youre someone who values the feel of a quality product, this cable is probably not for you. The DVI end of the cable is not moulded like most cables/connectors, so has a very cheap hollow sound to it.BUT ...It works, and that is probably the most important thing. For the price, and the fact it removes the need for those silly, short adaptors that Apple makes, its worth it!

I have more than 2 monitors, so you need one of these active adapters (not the passive type). I had no problem connecting them to my DVI cables and they're nice and strong, whilst being flexible so bend round the corner of my desk without getting kinks. Cheap price too, I don't see why anyone would pay more for a different adapter when these do exactly what they say on the tin.

I had mistakenly bought a mini-display port to HDMI cable to connect a 3rd monitor (Unaware that the cable would be a 'passive' one). I did some more research and found out you actually needed an 'active' converter. I found this one by Startech and it works perfectly, I can now hook up 3 monitors!Great product, just wish it was a little cheaper though!

I have a pair of HIS 6870's in CrossFire-mode & 3 monitors.I have one monitor on HDMI, another on DVI and now a third using this adapter in the mini-port.Does what it says on the tin and no problems.As far as I remember this was the cheapest active displayPort adapter available & with free shipping that sealed the deal.No regrets

I previously had a very expensive USB powered solution to power my eyefinity monitors but I somehow lost that....This was an ideal replacement. Plugged it in and was away with my EyeFinity display. I've experienced no drop outs or any form of lag on the monitor being driven by this. A perfect solution and a must have!

This enables me to use a 3rd monitor on my amd HD 6870 graphics card. Tried a cheap adapter previous to this, but was no good as it needed to be "active" which this one is! Only negative is cable seems somewhat thin, so be careful not to twist or pull it too much!

Fast delivery to Greece and works just like advertised.This adapter allowed me to finally enjoy eyefinity with my 6970 and my 3 Samsungs 22 inch 2233s.No problems nor hiccups whatsoever -knocks wood!-

This works perfectly for simply outputting a video signal from mini DisplayPort to DVI. It won't drive anything over 1600x1200 as that requires a powered adapter, but you get what you pay for.
