DVI and HDMI are interchangeable in theory with a simple converter plug. For that purpose this is a great product. It's well made and fits perfectly whilst being cheap at the same time.However - and not a fault of this adapter - one has to be a little careful if you think you can simply take a DVI output from a PC and convert it to HDMI and then use it in a smart TV. I tried this on a new Panasonic Viera and found that you get two problems. Firstly you don't get sound and secondly the edge of the PC output displayed on the TV is cut off. And if you are using Windows 8 that renders it pretty much useless. Truth is that this is ideal for making up a longer DVI cable from PC to monitor as long HMDI cables are easier to buy and run.

This is just a straight HDMI to DVI digital connection, nothing unexpected - does exactly what it's supposed to. It seems well constructed and the HDMI connection is nice and firm.I bought two of these to run a DVI signal through an HDMI switch and convert back into DVI at the monitor (which doesn't have HDMI). Sounds slightly crazy but it allows me to use the computer and my PS4 with one monitor whilst avoiding the VGA port and staying purely digital.People giving low ratings for this item and complaining about lack of sound need to read up on the DVI spec. For a straight-through connection with no loss of signal this thing is ideal and can't be faulted.

This is a great product, it is a very reasonable and cheap price and is exceptionally well made, durable and reliable.This works very well however the is a big misconception that is will convert everything from DVI to HDMI. It carries picture fine, but does not carry audio. So if you are using this to take your DVI output from a computer and convert it straight to HDMI, you will notice there will be no sound. If this is your main intention then I would recommend upgrading your PC to have HDMI so you can have both. Of course if you are not bothered about sound passing through, then this will be ideal.

This is a small device, and only has one function - to transmit the picture information from HDMI to DVI.In this regard, it does it perfectly. It plugs in tightly, and it transmits the picture with no loss of quality (not that any human could detect anyway). It is compact so doesn't take it loads of space and blends in well with most monitors.As it is to DVI, there is a loss of any sound being transmitted by the HDMI, but this is a problem of any DVI device, not just this product.

I have a Raspberry Pi and use a DVI KVM switch with it which meant I needed the DVI-D female end in order to hook it up rather than the traditional male - male adapter. This adapter works great, HDMI - DVI is no problem as their both digital signals. Not a lot else to say, great adapter, great price! I have use several StarTech products and they continue to produce great quality adapters.

If any of you are planning to buy Cintiq 22 HD and connect it to your laptop, it wont work if you do not have DVI slot. You will need this to connect to your HDMI port on your laptop. And the Citiq is working fine on the HDMI port.This £5 thing makes the £1500 thing work. Wonder why Wacom never thought of providing this along with their products?

I had been given an adapter by my son, on connecting it to TV a colour was missing so I ordered this one. Days later I decided to try it on another computer and it worked OK! I thought I had wasted my money ordering a new one but when it came it worked OK on original computer so I'm well satisfied.

Excellent product with prompt despatch. Works straight away. Good quality item and a cheap price. This product is designed to connect from the DVI socket on your graphics card to a HDMI socket in your monitor/DTV. Works a treat, though of course DVI doesn't support sound unless you use 2 of them.

Bought this to use with the Amazon firestick. However, subsequently learned that the firestick is not compatible through a hdmi to dvi adapter. The firestick has to plug into hdmi socket directly. My bad!

No complaints, did what was needed and did it welol. No loose fittings when connecting to cables, allowed the use of DVI screens with HDMI devices.

grate converter did the job well and for a grate price need to buy this cos me 3d card has a dvi conecter and me new moniter had a hdmi
