I do like my space games, but i had some trepidation about getting this one.. i thought it's probably made for kids, given the nature of the physical ships and pilots, so hesitated getting this game for a long time.. After finally watching some videos of it on Youtube, i was impressed by what i saw, so decided to give it a go, and i'm really glad i did, as this game is fantastic! and there is so much more to it than i expected, and it is not what i would call a kids game, as there is so much to it, and is not a walkover by any means if played on anything above the easiest difficulty setting.I got the Switch version of this, and i have to say it was nice to get a model of Starfox and Arwing with this version..it looks so much better than the ship you get with the game on the other versions, and fox and his ship aren't just different skins for the game, they are fully integrated into the story, and i thought that was very clever and cool, though it should be noted that you get the figure for the base game character also, and his ship on the game. The game itself is something i didn't expect, it's vast! which is good. There is plenty to do. Being a Ubisoft game, it has that same kind of open world (or in this case world/s) things to do, things that scatter the may to do, from places to search to places to clear out as well as the main and side missions, planet side as well as in space, which is good, as it gives you plenty of opportunity to level up your pilots and ships. The game is open free-roam, you can go to all the different planets and space in between at your pleasure, which is great. The game plays really well, the combat is satisfying, quite fast in space but you get used to it, and planet side, i was pleased to see there are two modes of travelling, which you can switch between. a mode where you hover lose to the ground, and you slide and strafe like you would if you was on foot in a third or first person shooter, and you can go into flight mode, where you can fly around like you would expect in a space/flight game, away from the surface, and this system works extremely well. It should be noted you don't have to have the ships plugged in to be able to use them, you can play with a normal joypad also, though you should also not that if you buy any extra physical ships and weapons, you have to plug them in at least once a week just to prove you still own them, but i can understand why it needs you to do that.Oh, one thing definitely worthy of mention, which i never knew, is that you can play the full game (the campaign) in Co-Op! and local split screen Co-Op at that, which is fantastic as i love Co-Op in games, and it's nice to get the help in the campaign, Co-Op always makes a game more fun in my opinion. No online Co-Op though as far as i know. The two downsides to this game is firstly, because of the way the game was designed, you don't get much in the way of ship and weapon choices with the base game. In a normal game, you would have all these choices built into the game, but because they want to sell the extra ships, weapons and pilots, there isn't much you get with this game in terms of those. Also, as previously said, if you have physical ships, pilots and weapons, you have to plug them in at least once a week to prove that you still own them, which makes you want to download them to save the aggravation of having to plug in once in a while, which is a shame.Lastly, it's a shame that you can't swap the thumsticks around. The ship controls are on the right stick and throttle and sliding on the left stick. Lots of people are used to the opposite, myself included, so it's a shame there is no option to swap the thumstick functionalities in the game, though you do adjust eventually, but i'd rather not have had to.All in all though a really good game that will surprise you with how much there is to it and that it's not just for kids, not by a long way.. this game is far anyone and is actually fairly hardcore, which was a very pleasant surprise to me.

I didn't expect to like this game nearly as much as I have been. I thought it was mostly just going to be a somewhat-repetitive space game (with the typical Ubisoft gameplay) which I was mostly buying for a really cool-looking physical Arwing. And I'm very glad to be wrong about that. The game's fantastic.First, some info on the Switch Starter Edition specifically: While you only get physical versions of the Arwing (+wings), 2 weapons, Fox and Mason... you actually also get digital versions of the Zenith (+wings) and the Shredder Mk. 1 weapon too. (These are the physical toys you get in the PS4/XB1 Starter Editions). This technically means that you get 2 ships, 4 wings,2 pilots and 3 weapons if you choose to play without the toys. (Scanning a toy lets you use that part "digitally" for 7 days, but scanning it again refreshes that timer) Basically, there's more content here than I was expecting. (But I like playing with a physical Arwing so... I never really used the bonus ship or weapon.)All the different weapons function wildly differently and it's fun to come up with different combinations which complement eachother. (I decided to get 5, or 6 if you include the digital Shredder) Plus, you can mod both the weapons and your ships (Two ships here, or 3 if you include the digital Zenith) to further augment their capabilities. I normally end up rocking my Arwing with the Levitator / Frost Barrage combo with energy mods so that I can keep firing without cooldown. Levitator holds the enemy in place, then the Frost Barrage causes a Cryo-Blast freezing any other enemies nearby (and doing massive damage). It's fun.And the gameplay itself is good too. There are a bunch of "Ubisoft-style" (for lack of a better term) quests with repeated objectives and generic rewards, but progression in the main story allows you to unlock things which helps skip a lot of the tedium. Don't like taking out each and every Extractor yourself? Build an Armoury and let other people do the work for you. Not fond of exploring the entire planet to get everything on your map? Build or upgrade an existing Observatory and they'll scan a very large area around themselves for you. Dislike the time-consuming space travel with Outlaws constantly interrupting you? Take out a nearby Outlaw Base in space, and you can use it as a fast travel point. Understanding what each building and mechanic does helps to cut back a LOT of the tedium which people complain about. My only real complaint is that my original copy of the game had the Arwing unable to properly connect to the mount (ie: faulty product), but I got it replaced and all is good. For a game I originally bought just because I was vaguely interested and it was on sale, I've ended up playing it way more than I expected.(Note: Review written from about halfway into the game... at least, I assume I'm halfway. I'm about to fight the first Dreadnaught.)

I put off buying this game for a long time, the game itself (at least on PS4, couldn't say for other platforms) is around £70, so to get the physical ship, pilot and 3 weapons ALONG with the game for a fraction of the cost, well, sign me up and call me Pacman! ?I was pretty dubious about it to begin with, I saw it as nothing more than a money making scheme, buy the ships and weapons, collect them all, realistically speaking though it's not that bad, you can buy the digital versions of everything too, not entirely sure if it can be played without the mount but I'd imagine it would be possible, I've not actually tried yet, the mount can be cumbersome at times but for all intents and purposes there's actually no reason you HAVE to mount it to your controller,it's just easier to access it and faster to swap weapons or ships or even your pilot that way, although there is a part in the game where you enter a race, if you die/explode during the race it gives you an option to "change your ship to continue" or just respawn at the start of the race, but I don't have any other ships (yet, just ordered another one ?) so I couldn't continue, however it seemed as though I could have only done it using the mount, will have to update this review in due time, my next ship arrives tomorrow so I'll endeavour to update the review this week ?The game itself is really quite good, takes a bit of getting used to in some instances, one kind of enemy is extremely frustrating ? especially because one of the team members keeps telling you the exact same thing over and over again while you're getting your behind handed to you, yes, I know normal weapons won't damage it while it's shields are up, how about you be useful and tell me something I don't know? Better yet, shut uuup! ? Frustrating ?Graphics are really quite good too, gameplay has a storyline but it's not immediately necessary to fully keep to it, you can take your time to explore, animals to discover too, however all too often these large animals tend to get right in the way as you're in the middle of a battle which again is pretty frustrating ?All in all it does actually deserve 5 stars, frustration aside it's a wonderful, gimmicky RPG with a new take, all of the digital versions seem to be the same price as the physical ones so imo it's much better to buy the physical ones, you may have to wait slightly longer for delivery but then you actually have something to show for your money rather than just a digital piece of code that nobody can directly see on your shelf and start a conversion about (albeit a strange conversation, usually about why does a 41 year old still play with and display toys ?)

I bought the physical version of the game and have been adding the ships physically to my collection. This is just a nice touch as they're well made, the pilots, ships and weapons can all individually be swapped about and it looks nice on the shelf. The Nintendo switch version implements Fox really well into the game. He isn't merely an add on character but has his own story and is placed into in game cut-scenes really smoothly/ has his own. His ship looks great and his crew can appear to help throughout the game using the L tab.The game itself is easy to pick up and get going, as well as rather addictive. I won't spoil anything however the story is simple enough, but with enough substance to keep it interesting. The npc's in the game are again interesting enough, if a bit repetitive. The real joy of the game is the fighting. On planet there is a back and forth between the enemy for control of planets, areas and bases . In space you are ambushed by enemies that really have it out for you! The controls are easy to use and pick up, and the ai is intelligent enough to keep battles interesting and at times make the game quite challenging. Lives are basically ships; if your ship gets destroyed you swap to a new one until you run out. This can mean having extra ships makes the game easier, however I have found that you can complete the game with just the basic pack, but side missions etc do need various weapons (if you can't be bothered to find work arounds i.e. finding a compatible explosive in world). As such it is not in anyway a pay to win game, but paying a little more for these ships and guns makes the game easier and quicker. You can never leave your ship, but this doesn't take away from exploration as you can pick things up, sell things and scan wildlife. The game takes place on seven different worlds, each with its own life, missions and 'atmosphere'. Getting to and from planets is smooth and feels really exciting. All in all it is a really fun game, with a bonus of toys to life. You can get the full game digitally, which I believe works out cheaper, however physical seems to be getting plenty of offers and adds a really nice touch to your shelf. Also physical is satisfying switching weapons and pilots about (you don't even have to pause game).Highly recommend.

Don't feel like reading a lot? Just take this: very good game! Really! and toys are amazing.Now...If, like me, the only reason this game got your attention when was announced was the cool-looking Arwing but was too pricey to at least consider... then this is your chance. It seems the game didn't sell as expected and now has a notable reduced price. I bought the Nintendo starter pack for less than £20. To be honest, I had no expectations for the game. I just wanted to have the Arwing. Nevertheless, to my surprise, the game is very good and engaging. I am still amazed how Nintendo and Ubisoft merged StarFox and Stalink's stories since both are exploring the universe.I totally recommend this title for any Nintendo fan, mostly those who like StarFox. It's nice to see how ambitious Nintendo is becoming, thus exclusive content is (again) a reality. However, be aware that the starter pack gives you a "limited" experience in the game. Only Fox McCloud and Mason Rana as pilots, Arwing and Zenith ships, and 3 weapons. You can buy everything else either as physical toys, or DLCs. Having them is not a must. It just gives you access to use different pilots, weapons, etc. And physical toys have to be re-linked once every week. You can either play having the toys mounted or not. And you can also play co-op mode (again, no need for both having toys). Given that, here is what I did: I bought another ship (which includes one ship, one pilot and one weapon), and another set of weapons. Because there are 5 different types of weapons which will be needed in the game: Fire, Ice, Kinetic, Stasis and Gravity. The included weapons are Fire, Ice and Kinetic. The ship I bought includes the ONLY existing Stasis. And the set of weapons came with one Gravity and another Kinetic. But worry not, in the game there are energy canisters all over the space, each of them have these energies. So, you can use the canisters to defeat certain enemies or open some cases. An open world game in space is always satisfying. You won't be disappointed. Hope this helps!

As an older gamer, I remember playing the original Starwing on the SNES and wondering how a video game could possibly get any better. Unfortunately for chumps like me who enjoy space pilot video gaming, this genre never made it big on consoles, and the wait between releases has forced my kind to become quite inhumanly patient. And then Starlink comes along, which does everything a space game should do; I was in shock - isn't this what No Man's Sky was supposed to be? Giving a literal take on open world gaming, Starlink allows the player to fly around the huge Atlas system, visiting planets, space stations, wreck sites and asteroid belts. Perhaps the coolest thing about he game is re-entering planets'atmospheres and watching the burn during the descent. While on the surface of a world, the player can cut their spacecraft's engines and explore the planet by cruising about like a hovercraft, allowing them to get up close to enemies, ruins and relics etc.I won't describe too much about the storyline here, but to summarise the player is helping good guys fight a bunch of bad guys, and this is done by making friends on the surface of Atlas's planets, mining resources and collecting items and upgrades. The spacecraft and its weapons are all customisable - as though this even needed saying - and for those of us with too much money to spend there are a plethora of upgrades available through the marketplace.I know some people will refuse to entertain the idea of a space game without a 'cockpit' view, and I hate to tell you, folks, that this is a third person only game, but do not let that deter you! The disappointment lasts about three seconds until you see the incredible scenery on the surface of Vylus, fly high into the atmosphere and then into orbit, before engaging your hyperdrive engines and heading to a distant world, all while listening to the excellently dreamy soundtrack. What more do you want for 2019?

I bought the starter pack game on the Black Friday deal and paid £39.99 which I though was fair given that you were getting a game, with a spacecraft, 3 attachable weapons and 1 pilot, but was a bit worried that I was tying myself into a monetary trap - given all the additional space crafts, pilots and weapons packs being sold alongside the starter pack. My worry was that I might have to invest more than just the starter pack to complete the game. However I was mistaken, you don't really need the additional toys to complete the main story line and at least 60% of the side quests are relatively painless with the starter pack toys - the other 40% can be a challenge particularly without the weapon packs, but you've spent a bit of time levelling up your pilot and modifying your spacecraft and weapons (with lot's and lot's of in game mods that you find along the way - none of which you ever have to buy!) then the game becomes easier and easier. I've completed the whole game in probably less than 20 hours and got around 75% of the PS4 achievements without ever having to purchase anything else. As far as the game goes, the voice acting can be a little childish and the in-game animations aren't top of the line, but it's a seriously enjoyable game and the controls and so easy! I've played a lot of flight simulators (including the likes of Ace Combat), and found some of the controls challenging, but here the controls are easy and you are literally taking about a 5-10 minute learning curve before you're doing barrel rolls and engaging 4-5 enemy vessels at a time without any issues! It's a really good game and I didn't have any doubts about wasting my money on this one.

I gotta say, Ubisoft has done a fantastic job with this game. The Starfox implementation into the main story is really well done. They’ve also added in specific Starfox story missions as well which really give the sense that you could easily be playing something that Nintendo themselves would have produced.Crucially the gameplay is fun and the vehicles handle superbly. Some reviewers have pointed that the side missions can be repetitive after some extended gameplay sessions. In my playtime I never came across this issue as the game allows you to switch between main and side quests at any time, which keeps things fresh. Also the main game is about 20hrs in length. It’s funny how Call of Duty always scores well with so-called critics and never gets called out for essentially being the same repetitive gameplay for over a decade.Lastly I need to clarify an issue that a previous amazon reviewer has mentioned that involves purchasing a new ship to continue if you die in the game. Yes, the game does ask for this if you wish to start from the exact point where you were previously. Otherwise it just respawns you at the last auto save point which isn’t so bad. So no. It is NOT essential to buy more toy spaceships to continue your progress.Honestly, I just had a blast with this game. I understand it may not be for everyone, but if you’ve been longing for a different gaming experience rather than the usual stale AAA yearly outings from studios, you could do a lot worse than giving Starlink a shot.

Starlink BFA is a great game , just the same for kids and adults. I opted for Switch version as you get Fox character and also choose to buy starter pack with toy ship because to be honest, it just looks cool.I was a bit skeptical how it will work with having ship connected to your controller, but there is no issue at all. Ships ( bought few more) are light and don't weight down controller. The game play combines space battles with planet exploration, and while some of the quest are typical "go there, bring me this, destroy that" they are still fun. You don't need to explore all 9 planets to 100% but it is fun to do it, so why not?Right away you have fire and ice weapons which make great combo as you heat up enemies and that suddenly cool them down for extra damage.Ofc, it also work other way around :)You can combine different weapons on each ship so I recommend getting 1-2 add on weapon packs, they are worth that few euros.Fox is great and in game cut scenes and story work well together.Ship has led light where engine is so it really looks like its "on", and some weapons also have same option.Ship itself is sturdy - I play it, my 10 yo plays it, and my 5 yo play it (and he changes weapons every few minutes) - no loose parts, nothing brokenGame offers you several levels - easy, normal, hard... so everyone can play on their own levelConclusion - highly recommend getting it, especially for this price (25e)

Actually a really decent game. Great for any fan of the Starfox series. While the game is also for PS4 and Xbox one, it does seem like Nintendo got the better end of the stick with the exclusive character and story arc.The game is an open-world style space game where you jump between planets and help the citizens of that world.Essentially forming an alliance to fight against the villian. The pack comes with a replica of the Arwing from Starfox that connects directly to the joycons. You have a choice of two pilots to put inside it and two weapons that you can attach to the ship. The ship acts similarly to Amiibo, or like skylanders or logo dimensions. Where you place weapons on the ship they change on the game instantly. You can also purchase extra stuff both physically and digitally to add to your collection. This does also mean the replica of the starwing isn't actually needed. As when you boot up the game it gives you the chance to play digitally instead. Also the game is drop in Coop. However the player 2 ship is connected to yours so you cannot travel too far away from each other.

Relaxing, cathartic, exciting, enjoyable, fun. These are some of the words I would use to describe Starlink. The most amazing and fun features are definitely the models. It is really awesome to change the ships, pilots and weapons in real time and watch them teleporting into the screen. Gameplay is fun and satisfying and the storyline is interesting especially the StarFox story arc.The models are high quality. The attention to detail is impressive with details being similar on both the game and the ships. I love how the ships have certain parts that light up such as the engines and cockpit. Some of the weapons light up to. Combining weapons in real time to create elemental combos or exploit weaknesses is awesome. With the game starter pack being £19,additional ships £12 and additional weapons packs £5 it is an absolute bargain. The ships are high-quality enough to stand on their own.If you love spaceships, blasting enemies with well thought out weapons, great story (especially star fox arc) and cool models, don’t hesitate hesitate to get this and the extras! Totally worth it.

Buying this game for the Switch is easily the best option over PS4 or XBox due to the exclusivity of StarFox and the extra storyline you get with it (plus free DLC coming in 2019). However, and this could be a game changer, the cost of unlocking everything in the game could set you back.If you buy this physical copy you will then require to buy every single other physical toy to unlock it within game, however, if you were to buy the digital version you get a majority unlocked straight away and the deluxe digital version, you get everything unlocked.Yes, you won't get the toys, but are they really toys? If you allow yourself (or children) to play with these and then lose or worse, break them,it's game over. You won't be able to use them in the docking station required. A tough call.Add this with the fact you need to buy a different spaceship AND the expensive second control. It currently sits as more expensive than this starter pack itself *gulp*

Bought it at the reduced price and it's not a bad game. The physical ship, add-on's and pilots are a bit gimmicky, (others have also said this) and really target two types: either the collector or those that just want the next new thing as thay don't really add anything to the game other than funding the developers pockets or quickly changing your ship weapon layout or pilot which you can do in the game anyway but that doesn't take away from the game as that's actually not bad. I havent used the ship yet and am just playing the game in handheld mode on my switch as I play on the move when travelling . So far, (despite my seemingly negative comments) I am enjoying the game without the bulky add on ship bits.It plays well and has a decent story.Based on my experience I would reccomend this game especially at the reduced price.

As a gaming concept this is great. Aware it's been done before, but from all accounts, this is a much better effort. Bought as present for son and I to enjoy. Being fans of the Star Fox series, happy that the Switch version gets the additional Fox Mcloud and crew story line. So far have downloaded the 6GB of data required to run the game on Switch - will save time on xmas day. Have run through the first mission and started the mission on a planet. Great fun so far. There will be a bit of disappointment from gamers who bought into this title early paying top, top dollar! I waited for a reduced price, purchased, then a another massive drop! Two switch family, so bought again,so effectively got two items for the price of one if taking into account the introductory price of this starter pack.

Wasn't sure if my daughter would be a big fan of this but thought I would get it anyway to give it a try.You slide the Switch joycons into the black controller holder and then pick which character you want to play as. (Fox McCloud allday long) and slide that onto the top part of the holder and then attach the ship on top and you are all good to play. The ship also comes with some weapons to attach as well and it is possible to purchase others to use as well along with other ships and characters, although they are not really needed.Gameplay wise the game offers a pretty good experience as you fly around shooting enemies. Graphically it looks solid enough and the sound is pretty good also. It's not the best game you will ever play but offers a pretty good experience overall.
