My Stagg Soprano Uke was a Christmas present from my wife (not an Amazon purchase). I have to say it is the best present I have had in years! One word of caution, however, Ukulele playing can become extremely addictive! Since Christmas I have purchased both a Concert Uke and a Tenor Uke, and from being a complete Ukulele Virgin just 5 months ago I am now playing concerts with my local Ukulele group! My next target is a Banjolele! I think my wife is regretting giving this present! But back to the review! Most of what I would have said has already been said by others, so I will just qualify and expand on some of these comments and, as this is an "entry level" Uke,try to give a few tips and pointers as follows -Cheap Ukuleles almost always come with cheap strings. A modest investment in better quality strings can transform the sound of your Ukulele. The Stagg strings are not the greatest and you will find that a modest outlay on better quality strings will transform the sound quality.Aquila strings are very good at around £7.00 a set, but personally I like Worth BM Brown, they are around £14.00 a set, but are double length. One set is enough to restring both my Soprano and Concert Ukes. One warning though - the player doesn't hear the true sound, as most of the sound projects forwards through the sound hole - as you are positioned behind the Ukulele the sound projects out in front, so most of the sound you hear is what is reflected back to you. This is a particularly important consideration if you are thinking of buying a new Ukulele. To get a true impression of what it really sounds like you need to listen to someone else playing it - or make a recording of yourself!Regarding comments about staying in tune - All string instruments have the same problem with new strings, which need time to stretch and bed in - Ukulele strings are made from polymers such as nylon or fluorocarbon - these are more "stretchy" than metal and can take several days to fully settle down.Failure to stay in tune is almost always a string issue - Cheap poor quality strings can go on stretching for weeks!Once bedded in the Worth strings on my little Stagg hold their tune equally as well as those on my Concert Uke which cost 5 times the price!Another thing I have found about strings is that they also affect playability! That is another reason why I like the Worth strings, they seem more forgiving to "sloppy" finger placement and I find that barred chords are much easier to play cleanly.Regarding Mobile Phone Tuner Apps - these are very good, I use one myself for tuning at home, but remember, these use the microphone of your phone, so they pick up all the "noise" around including any other Ukuleles! In a group situation the phone App can't discriminate or isolate individual instruments. In this case the only option is a clip on tuner that picks up the vibration through the neck of the Uke, (unless you can tune by ear). Good clip-on tuners can be bought for £6 or £7.Finally - there are loads of resources on the internet, including Chord Charts, Song Lyrics/Chord sequences and YouTube videos, but I cannot recommend highly enough that you join a local Ukulele Group if you can. It will really improve your playing, and it is tremendous fun! I go to one every Wednesday evening - the smile it puts on my face lasts through the weekend!

I bought this for my partner for Christmas, and she loves it. I've played guitar for around 15 years and tried to teach her, but she struggled with her tiny hands and with steel strings. So I bought her a Stagg Uke for Christmas, along with a set of D'Addario EJ87S strings and the "It's Ukulele Time" beginner's book. I didn't want to spend a fortune as she might not take to it, but if she does I can always upgrade in the future. The first thing I'll say is to bin the strings that come with it. I did initially tune it with the supplied strings, but they weren't great. They felt flimsy, and the sound was acceptable but not particularly good. Luckily I was prepared and had bought a better set,and wrapped them up under the tree with the Uke, on the advice of Amazon reviews. I chose D'Addario EJ87S which cost around £5. As soon as you fit them you notice a substantial improvement in the quality of the strings to the touch, but more importantly, a much improved sound. Fitting is a little fiddly, but watch a couple of YouTube videos on the subject and all becomes clear. The second thing I'll say is to get a decent set of screwdrivers and play around with the machine heads (or tuning keys, if you prefer). The ones on the Uke I bought were a little loose, which caused the strings to go out of tune rather quickly. One of them was a bit too tight, which was causing some vibration, so I adjusted that one too. Although be careful to use a correctly sized screwdriver if you do this, as the screws are cheap and will round easily. As with many new stinged instruments, you need to allow it some time to bed in a bit, especially if fitting new strings. I downloaded a simple ukulele tuning app onto my phone and tuned it using that. This needs doing a lot at first, but soon enough it settles down and needs doing much less often between playing. All in all, I'm impressed with the Stagg Ukulele. My partner is very happy with her present, and is working her way through the book, learning some simple songs and chords. And I enjoy playing it myself. It's similar enough to a guitar to be able to use strumming and picking techniques, but in many ways is a totally different experience. The finish of the uke is good but not great, which is why I've knocked off a star. The one I got had a small chip on the back (nothing major), and overall the finish appears a little plastic (although looking inside you can see the instrument is indeed made of wood). But as a cheap entry level uke it's worth the money. I'm even planning to buy one for myself.

Just what I wanted, nice sound, good finish, fast delivery. Took a bit long to stay in tune but patience and enthusiasm will take it there.Edit:I've had this ukulele since October (5 months) and I feel that I should downgrade it to balance out my initial enthusiasm.I believe it to bee perfectly good as a starter ukulele (although this was my starter ukulele and I really have no real term of comparison) and to be fair it's not as difficult to tune as some other review state, after less than a month you'll be tuning it once a week even if you put it through daily practice sessions. It's also quite sturdy, I've knocked it about at home and on travel and there are only a few scratches to remind me.Now that I've come across so technical terms, and have lead myself to believe I understand them (self taught enthusiast) I think I can say that the action is a bit high and that I find myself craving a richer sounding, solid acacia wood concert os tenor ukulele. I'll explain why:- The higher frets just don't sound very good (7th fret up I would say);- After hearing thousands of other ukuleles on video and songs I find that i doesn't sound "sweet", it becomes a little annoying when you know what sound you want to make and find that it doesn't quite make it ;- I think my fingers are stubby and hope my playing will improve if I have more room on the fret board;- It look cheep and battered after 5 months and as I progress and, as the urge to show off my skills rises, so does the need to hold something that looks as good (or better) than it sounds;Final verdict:- If it's going to be you first ukulele: Excellent value for money:- If you already strum an entry level ukulele: Save some money for something solid that you can show off and be proud of.

The ukelele arrived in 3 days, much faster that I thought and indicative of good service. The instrument, itself, is so small, but the tone, when tuned is excellent. I bought an electronic tuner for just under a tenner and this is invaluable as the uke needs tuning from the start and every ten minutes thereafter. I understand some better strings give better sound and better in-tune duration, so I ordered a set of nylgut strings. This all might sound a bit inconvenient, but being new to a musical instrument it adds to the experience in my opinion. With a book and Youtube videos, plus some help from my musical son, I was up and playing something within hours having never played anything before. It doesn't make me feel like a rock god, but, honestly, it's a pleasure to strum away, learn something new and get a pleasant sound from an instrument that doesn't really cost a lot: I'm hooked and this is a good ukelele to start on at any age. 5 stars.

I really enjoy this product. It is cheap for a musical instrument so you cant expect wonders. The strings are made of plastic so when you first tune it, you will have to go back and tune it a minute later and so on and so on until the strings have stretched. Over time and use the strings stop going out of tune so quickly. It is really fun to play, you will be able to play some rhythms which sound good after just a couple of hours. Obviously in no way is it of professional quality, but its good to learn for beginners and good to waste time when you're meant to be revising. It even comes with its own little carry bag... what more could you want to be the coolest kid in town!Would recommend this product to anyone looking for a fun instrument.

A lovely little instrument for a beginner like me and well worth the money. As others had recommended, after a few weeks I changed the strings for something of better quality and the new strings settled quickly. Now it's rarely out of tune and has a lovely tone. A word of caution for the large handed or fatter fingered: you may have difficulty with some of the chords as, being a small instrument, there isn't much space in which to fret properly and so one of the larger Uke versions (Concert or Tenor) may be a better option. My advice would be, if in a position to do so, that you visit a music shop and test each size to see which is best suited to you.

This is a great little ukulele and produces a good sound. I bought this for fun and to teach myself the ukulele and it is great for that purpose. The strings do not always ring clearly especially when playing high cords and perhaps better quality strings are needed. It arrived very out of tune but with the right tuner it is quite easy to tune and the strings don't feel like they are going to snap which was good since I have often had a violin string snap in my face. It will go out of tune in the first few days but eventually the strings will settle down. This really is a great piece of kit for a super price so I recommend it.

I always wanted to play a musical instrument and after trying to learn how to play the piano and the guitar, my girlfriend convinced me to come with her to the Ukulele society meetings and so I felt I needed to get a uke for the occasion.I was really impressed to find one at such a good price, and with a cover too!I haven't had it for long, but my girlfriend checked it out for me and said it is almost as good as hers, for which she had paid considerably more.So far I've managed to strum the beginning to Somewhere over the Rainbow, and I look forward to learning some easy versions of Jack Johnson as well.Wish me luck!

I changed the stock strings for Aquila 4U Ukulele SOPRANO Regular(Nylgut)strings they appear to be a far better quality and once tuned make the Uke sound really nice. The instrument has to be tuned every time I use it but this is down to the strings stretching to there maximum. The Uke has a lovely sound and s real easy to play I would recomend to buy, the UK flag and blue finsh makes the look so different. For thoes who have not seen or played a Soprano Uke like this they are a small instrument about the size of a violin.I love my Uke and enoy playing it it has a very 'warm happy sound.

I mainly bought this ukulele because it looked like a traditional ukulele and it was quite cheap as well. It works beautifully, the notes' sounds was quite clear and it was very easy to strum. The ukulele comes with a bag and that was very handy. However, there are a couple of flaws. A couple of hours after tuning, it gets out of tune quite a bit. I would have to re tune everyday. The strings aren't tuned when it is sent so buying a chromatic tuner is an essential.Other than that, the ukulele is very well made. But, I would recommend buying new strings for a better sound and better tune.

Nice clean- looking instrument which arrived after 24 hours. Thank you Amazon. However, the instrument came strung wrongly as the bass string was in the 3 string position, the two outside strings were No 2 strings and the No 3 string was in the 2 string position. This lack of quality control may explain some of the tuning problems mentioned in some reviews. My daughter is a Lefty so a change of strings was in order anyway. There are no asymmetric sound bars like in a guitar or mandolin, so just reversing the strings makes a left- handed instrument which is perfect.

I bought 4 of these for a bit of family Christmas fun and I am well pleased with them. They arrived within 2 days so well done to Chamberlain Music who supplied them, and they look fantastic. Not all 4 of them are brilliantly finished (hence 4/5 stars) but for £20 goodness, what else can we expect. They truly are a delight, lightweight and delivered secure in a neat little nylon bag that will travel anywhere. I really recommend them. Granted the strings are rubbish and I will load them up with Aquillas - but they have taken longer than the Ukes to arrive.

Got my ukulele very fast, arrived late morning, second day after purchase. Came packaged very well and the product was in great condition, as expected. The ukulele arrived out of tune badly but a quick easy tuning sorted that. The uke first kept on going out of tune very quickly so I had to carry on tuning it throughout an hour or so and eventually it got to the point in which I didnt have to keep tuning to in order to play. Overall the ukulele is great for beginner and more advanced players and gives out a nice sound. I would recommend this highly.

I gave this ukulele 5 stars because of its amazing playability and low price. I have only used one other cheap ukulele before and its sound had nothing to do with this one. Sometimes it gets too loud for the body of the instrument. It took me about 2 weeks of playing in order to stay tuned but now the strings are just fine. Nato wood might be a bit harder for the fingers and it seems to get easily scratched but in my opinion it is a must have instrument for your vaccation, beautiful and ergonomic.

When I saw this ukulele online I thought it was very stylish, And when it arived I realised I was right. If you want a bit of colour this ukulele is the one for you- It has yellow tuning pegs which are very easy to turn. I have had it for over a year now and apart from the paint being a bit chipped, It is still going strong. The string has only come undone once but it was easily fixed and very easily re-tuned. I think this is a reasonable price and would highly recomend it.
