As a Primary School Teacher who taught hand writing for 40 odd years, I can honestly say that the STABILO EASY original Handwriting Pen for left handers is excellent. If you or your child is right handed then this is the pen that will make their handwriting better by making it easier to produce a neat legible script.#That is all you really need to know but if you would like to know the reasons for my favourable views and a few suggestions read on.If you child is left handed then I would get the Left Handed Version. As soon as I held this pen and tried it I knew it was a brilliant, well-constructed design.Even my, neat script was better BUT, more importantly,it was far easier to achieve than a normal pen.Let me explain. The normal run of the mill pens in schools ten to be the Berol cylindrical ones. They have stood the test of time, are the right price for budget conscious Heads Teacher, reliable and washable. (unlike the Heads)But I never liked them for developing a good script. The grip wasn't quite right and the learner had to spend far too much time concentrating on getting the pen gripped correctly- which is hard for a child learning with a standard- one size fits all pen, and having to constantly readjust to do so rather than concentrate of the script they were writing.I noted the children soon got fatigued at having to hold the pen correctly and as time went for by their writing deteriorated negating the benefits of the pen.I had constant arguments with imperious Deputy Head Teachers and others who I realised had no idea what they were talking about to spend a few pence extra per pen and buy the better Stablo ones with the better grip. This is an excellent pen that is contoured and shaped so that the learner grips the pen in the perfect position. The grip is comfortable meaning the hand of the child does not tire and the result is all the concentration is on the script written. The result an easy style that makes it easier to produce a neat and legible script. Now a few tips.Make sure your child is sat in the correct position with the paper straight.(A quick viewing of the accompanying video explains and illustrates this well.If the paper is not straight in the first place then you are making it harder to write correctly.A simple yet all too often ignored fact. (Think back to the bad old days of school when you had limited desk space and had to turn your body and paper around just to get the writing down). Now some children are very self-conscious about 'having to use a pen that is for 'less able kids'.If you promote this pen as only being given to selected special children then you will go a long way to creating a self-fulfiling prophecy type of attitude rather than a negative one.Tell them the pen is stylish and trendy and all the other words and reassurance they need.If you buy this pen then have a quiet word with their teacher to enable them to use the pen in class is always a good idea.If you are unlucky to get a snooty non-responsive class teacher go over her head.Teachers hate this and soon kowtow. Most reasonable and sensible teachers (underpaid and overworked) will thank you for this thought. If you do get the odd one ask her to try the pen herself and then an ordinary one and compare the writing.Mine was far better with this pen so that should convince them. Thanks for reading.I hope your child develops a neat and legible hand writing style.

I have to confess that I've never previously given much thought to using stationery which has been specifically designed for either right or left handed people and indeed haven't really noticed many products which are designed as such, with the exception perhaps being scissors. However, when I first picked up this pen, I could immediately see the attraction as the grip was perfectly designed to suit the hand of a left handed person. This makes it quite a bit more comfortable to hold and to write with for prolonged periods of time. Unless you're trying to hold a left handed pen in your right hand, in which case it isn't comfortable at all...Given that it is a rollerball pen,I find that much less pressure needs to be applied and whilst this in itself increases the comfort of the pen, it also means it writes much more smoothly. The only thing I would say is that the pen nib is quite wide and therefore, it can have the effect of making messy handwriting (such as mine!) more illegible. However, given that this product is fully refillable (by way of replaceable ink cartridges), it is possible that Stabilo might make smaller nib sizes, to suit those of us with messy handwriting (as far as I'm aware, these aren't currently available). The ability to refill these pens also makes it much more cost efficient as, at the time of writing, you can buy a pack of six refill cartridges for just under the price of a new pen (and even the pen itself isn't that expensive). It also means you can change the colour, from blue, to black, to red.The attention to detail which Stabilo have given to these pens is also fantastic and whilst I appreciate that it is very minor, the writing on the left hand version of the pen goes in the opposite direction to the right handed version. This means that when you are holding each pen in the appropriate hand, the writing is always the correct way up and is able to be read from left to right. I told you it was a small detail...In summary, I am actually rather impressed by these pens, even though I'd previously been contented to use a normal pen which is designed for everyone to use. However, now that I've tried these pens out, I think I could actually use them all the time, with the only slight drawback for me being that the wide (0.5mm) nib makes my previously terrible handwriting look even worse! For anyone with neater handwriting however, this won't be a problem.

This is a superb product which has come at the perfect time in my son's development. He is 4 years old, about to start school and has already been doing some basic writing exercises at pre-school. We've realised that he's left handed as he always seems to favour using that hand for drawing and playing games.Where he struggles at the moment is getting a good grip on the pen, he shifts from position to position each time he writes....often favouring what I would describe as a claw grip with the pen in between his first and middle fingers....clearly not the best way to learn to write. This pen is a godsend as, to be honest, my handwriting is pretty poor and I feel a bit under qualified to be dishing out advice on how best to hold a pen!The pen has three indents for thumb and 1st 2nd fingers ensuring that it sits comfortably in the hand in a stable position. The difference is striking, his control over the letters he is writing and the neatness of his drawings show a noticeable difference. He also sits for longer each time as I don't think he's getting as frustrated/tired with this pen.It has a nice blue ink which dries nicely and the nib is strong and durable....although I've read that the refills come with a new nib each time which will probably be a good idea as he sometimes gets a bit bashy when doing his Star Wars drawings!Hopefully he'll not lose this pen and we can get plenty of use out of it!

STABILO EASYoriginal Handwriting Pen - Left Handed - BlueThis pen instantly helped a 9-year old child to hold the pen better, and the shape of the pen kept reminding her where to put her index finger and thumb each time she picked the pen up. She had been pressing her index finger very firmly against the pen with her thumb wrapped across it horizontally, causing stress to the index finger and hand; she now grips the pen between index finger and thumb in a more relaxed way, making writing more sustainable. Definitely a hit.=== THINGS I LIKE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT ===* The shape of the pen, with it's indentations for the index finger and thumb, gives a child learning to use a pen precise guidance on where to hold the pen* Fun,funky design with soft edges and curves and a little sticker they can write their name on then stick in a special spot on the pen* The child this pen was given to felt very grown up to have her own special handwriting pen for left-handers* The rollerball nib did not break even though the child was pressing very hard indeed initially (she's learning to apply less pressure)* Refill cartridges work out at around 50p each (currently a set of 6 is for sale at just over £3)=== NIGGLES ===* Does not come with a replacement refill* The 3 white oval-shaped stickers were distinctly underwhelming for the childFor sale at the time of writing this review at £4.35 (RRP £6.70).

My dad is left handed and although as a child was lucky enough to have not had his hand tied behind his back to 'be' right handed like my mother in law endured, he has always struggled with writing and his handwriting has always been something difficult to decipher.I originally chose these pens as my 3 year old is pretty much completely ambidextrous with equally strong proficiency in both hands and she is yet to commit to which hand she feels most comfortable with any skill or task as she switches and changes even within a task. I don't want to force her one way or another so I wanted to have both 'handed' pens for her to use.Of course being three and ecstatic to have try of a real pen,my dad was more ideal to tell me whether they were any good, and he says that in his entire life of writing he has never held something that felt so right as this, it was strange at first because of the grip he had adopted over time to adjust, but as his hand relaxed into it his handwriting became smoother and less disjointed which is amazing.Overall, we are buying some more for dad at home to do his crosswords and take to work and if my daughter commits to her left hand, this will definitely be the range we will be looking at to support her mastery of the writing motor skills.

When I was little, I used to use scissors with my left hand and write with my right - something that caused serious upset amongst my teachers. Why, I don't know. As a result, I am always looking out for ways that can help left handers (as a teaching assistant), especially when it's Pen License time. (Pen License - being allowed to step up and use a pen in class!) This pen is so, so amazing. It's shaped differently to regular pens, it's shaped so that children can easily grip the pen and pinch it correctly, as well as giving them support for the pen to rest against the space between their thumb and index finger. The pen has three little spaces and a small diagram to show the child (and Mum/Dad)which fingers to put in which space. It's obviously too small for me, I found it really weird writing with it! But it will be absolutely amazing for young children and encouraging them to keep trying. The pen is also refillable - which is perfect especially if there's younger brothers and sisters waiting to learn how to write. I would absolutely recommend this to left handers - well done, Stabilo!

I bought this for my left-handed nine-year-old, who has terrible handwriting, and we have been doing writing practice exercises at home with it.It has a sort of a curvy shape and three very specific dents to put the thumb and fingertips in, so it has been very helpful in improving her grip and getting her to relax her wrist and her fingers when she's writing. I can really see where everything is supposed to go, and can help her to get it all in the right place and at the right tension. The ink comes out relatively easy, but it does sometimes go dry when my daughter's writing, for no apparent reason, and takes a little scribbling on scrap paper to restart. This is frustrating. It doesn't happen when I write with the pen, and we've checked to see if it's the angle she's holding it at, but there doesn't seem to be a specific cause behind it, so my daughter can't prevent it. This does interfere with her concentration on her exercises.

This rollerball pen has indents for a left handed user's thumb and forefinger, to create the correct grip. The curved back end of the pen has an indent where it rests on the edge of a left handed user's hand. When I was at school, I would have killed for a pen like this, and suspect that my handwriting would have turned out much better. You still have to be careful, not to smudge the ink as you write, but it dries quite quickly.I'm learning Japanese at present, and find the pen great for drawing the Japanese characters as well as writing in English.I did find at first the ink didn't flow very freely, but that corrected itself quite rapidly. My one real gripe is that the cap screws on,but does not clip onto the back of the pen while writing, so has to be put down separately, which is likely to lead to it being lost and the lovely pen drying out.

Although I am not a teacher, I am a reading mentor and like to encourage children to learn to write alongside learning to read (often this can be harder to grasp and also writing letters/words can help make them easier to remember). With this pack you get one easy grip pen for left handed children. The pen is ergonomically designed and has soft, comfortable, grooves in the sides, to allow the child’s fingers to grip easily. Using pencils, or pens, in this range, allows the child’s hand to naturally grip in the correct way – rather than getting into bad habits, such as holding their hand in a fist shape. The rollerball means the writing is smooth and easy.Well designed and they will help encourage your child to develop a comfortable and correct writing style.

I am left handed and definitely not a child anymore so was interested in trying this pen to see whether I hold my pen correctly. It has two indentations for where your thumb and finger should sit. I do hold my pen correctly but not at a low enough angle it seems. It felt strange holding the pen so low down but it wasn't uncomfortable. It made me realise that I hold my pen at a higher angle which naturally makes my hand tired. I don't know how easy it will be to retrain my hand after all this time but I will definitely give it a go.In the pack you get some oval stickers in case you want to write your name on the pen. you twist the cap off. The in colour is good for an erasable pen.

My almost seven year-old is a big fan of this pen. As a lefty still practicing his writing, to find a pen that fits comfortably in his hand is a great find. But to find a pen that also doesn't smear as his hand moves across his writing is an even better find, and this pen fills both of those qualifications. And to top it all off, this pen is refillable which minimizes waste--also a significant plus.He already has remarkably neat writing for his age, so this pen hasn't made any noticeable improvement in that department, but it certainly hasn't hurt his writing either. This pen is a huge hit and I'll be looking into refills as the school year gets underway.

This is an interesting writing instrument – it has been shaped to make it more comfortable to hold.Unfortunately the finger placing are in the wrong place for me – they were obviously designed and moulded by someone with bigger hands. However it doesn’t mean that it is uncomfortable to write with as I found out when I was doing my research and needed a working pen.It is a smooth writer with very little blotching and even though my fingers didn’t go where they were supposed to it was nice to write with. This is definitely a pen that I will be carrying in my bag when I go out to the Uni library again to do some more research.

My left handed 8 year old has some mild Dyspraxia and loose joints and has consistently struggled with handwriting since starting school. She's always been a year or so behind the rest in terms of neatness which is a shame as she can read like an adult and talk so eloquently. We tried lots of things to help but the Easy pencils and Pens have helped the most. They provide a consistent shape and grip compared to a sleeve grip. It's taken a while and I'm sure I can't put it all down to the shape of a pen but now in year 4 I'm proud to say that we are nearly on a par with the rest of the class.

STABILO Easy Original Handwriting Pen is a great addition to anyone who like myself write with their left hands. I found the pen to be comfortable to hold and my index finger and my thumb fit neatly and most important of all comfortable to hold which is especially important when as an old fashioned student I take my notes using pen and paper. The pen writes clear and the ink is vivid, and with no smudges or leaks, I love this pen for the main point being it promotes neat writing because of the inserts plus you only have to purchase the main pen as the pen refills can be purchased separately

My 7 year old has been desperate to get a pen to use at home/school.He really has issues with handwriting and has a very weak grip therefore his writing is sometimes illegible..Add onto that he is left handed. He really likes this pen, he has had a go and found it easy to get a good grip as you are kind of forced to put the fingers in the correct place. There is a good ink flow and his writing was reasonably neat using it.He said his fingers ached after a little while using but that is just a matter of getting used to it.I really am very happy
