If you've never used a fountain pen before, this one is an ideal starting point. To the uninitiated, nib pens can sometimes be thought of as expensive, not particularly suited to every day carry, and maybe even slightly old fashioned, but this modern crossover style from Stabilo successfully proves these notions to be misguided. With a chunky plastic body and ergonomic moulded rubber grip, the pen looks more like a felt-tip or roller ball. It certainly isn't stuffy or formal looking, and the bright colours make it attractive to younger users too, which is a big bonus if you're a parent trying to encourage your child to learn the valuable life skill of decent hand writing!I also like it as an every day fountain pen - rugged enough to knock about and sufficiently inexpensive not to worry over, unlike my treasured Parker Duofolds, which I much prefer to keep safely at home. The pen is very comfortable to hold, and the nib writes smoothly, without any interruption to flow. The cap can be 'posted' on the pen if desired, but it's heavy and not a secure fit, so far better suited to staying on the desk. Not all ink pen caps are intended to remain with the pen, and balance is usually better if you leave it on your desk. The pen is supplied with one empty and one full, blue ink cartridge. Both will fit in the barrel, meaning it will hold a spare. Traditional etiquette states that black ink is essential for a gentleman, and blue suitable for school children. Modern tastes are more liberal, but there's no doubt black has more punch and authority. That little bit of extra care one takes when holding a fountain pen at the correct angle makes a big difference, as does the way you glide the nib gently over your paper. It all adds up to a smoother, more graceful action on your part, and this is translated into the quality of the marks you make. It teaches you finesse and manual dexterity in a way that a biro, which requires downward pressure, never can. This is why I'm a big fan of fountain pens, and forever grateful to my primary school teacher who insisted his pupils write entirely with dip-in ink pens! And no, I'm not Victorian, this was in the late 1970's!With the current interest in everything 'retro' let's hope legible handwriting and fountain pens become a new trend!I recommend this pen to you.

This range of fountain pens from Stabilo come in a choice of three colours and I received the black/lime colour to review which has a lime green and black body with a matching push on lid and a black coloured plastic pocket clip. The body of this pen is transparent so that you can keep an eye on how much ink is left. The pen measures 19.5cm in length including lid and has a black soft grip area between the nib and the body which makes for more comfortable writing … less likely to cramp. Although I will add here that the lid is actually gigantic in comparison to the size of the pen … also it cannot be stored on the base of the pen which is unfortunate. This I feel prevents this fountain pen to be the one of choice for the younger child as I am sure many would lose the lid quite easily. This pen takes international standard sized ink cartridges. This fountain pen has a medium iridium tipped nib which writes beautifully without that horrible scratchy feel that can often be the problem with fountain pens at the budget end of the market. You need to insert the ink cartridge quite firmly and gently squeeze the cartridge to release the ink to the nib. Once the ink is flowing this pen writes very well and smoothly with no snagging, missing ink areas or blobs of ink.I have been using this fountain pen most days for the last couple of weeks and I'm really happy with it. This pen is easily as good as some of the more expensive pens on the market ... all I need now is some blotting paper.

I’ve not used a fountain pen for a few years so seeing this thought it might be a good item to try to get me back into using one.The only minor negative thing I will point out is the price. Considering it’s aimed more for a younger target audience too to me it seems well over priced especially as it only comes with one ink cartridge that’s full. Plus youngsters and pens they seem to loose them like socks in the washing machine, almost like disappearing into a black hole.Best used with top left on table or wherever your using it otherwise it makes the pen not as light to use I found, Chunky yes but for myself good as suffer with OA in hands and this means with it being chunky and easy to grip all the better for me.The effect it gives is good and with it being a medium knib none of that scratchy sound when using it that I remember from ages ago with thin knibs. So yes love this but the price would expect it not to be as expensive as it is and also a couple of extra ink cartridges included with it,

Fountain pens seem to have fallen out of favour recently, though they're great for calligraphy and generally for beautiful writing. This Stabilo pen has a nice aesthetic to make it look modern yet mostly remains practical. The pen itself has a transparent middle so that you can see the ink cartridge inside, useful for telling when it's nearly empty. The nib is sharp but writes well with little pressure and the body is comfortable to hold. I was impressed with the quality of the writing and the ease in which you can change the cartridge. Unfortunately, the lid is where the design is let down slightly as it seems overly heavy and large for the pen and oddly can't be attached to the back. This may lead to the lid being easily lost and feels weird when coming from nearly every other pen that has this feature as standard.Overall, then, a good fountain pen that writes well but let down by the lid.

I've always loved fountain pens, some are better than others, but this one by Stabilo is a joy to use and it looks good too. It is quite chunky in looks but very comfortable to hold and whereas some pens make your fingers ache after a while, this was not a problem here. Whilst not a very fine nib, the ink is free flowing and there are none of those annoying gaps in writing that you often get with some rollerball pens. My handwriting is normally appalling but even I'm able to make mine look respectable using this pen.I'm delighted with it and will certainly carry on using it. The only minor niggle for me is the price. For the price of £14.99 I would have expected it to come with a spare ink refill - in the packaging you get one empty cartridge (which is already inside the pen) and one filled cartridge. Having said that I would happily buy a packet of refills to continue using it.

An easy to hold fountain pen, thanks to the large rubber grip. It's not unsightly, or unwieldly, and is certainly comfortable to hold whlist writing for longer periods of time. The design, in black and vivid green, can be suited to either gender and is stylish and modern. It writes well, without any scratching. The nib, which is medium sized, means the text is neither too spidery, nor too thick for smaller cursive styles. The only distracting feature is that the pen top does not click on top of the pen. It is either loose and distracting, or if pushed on, tends to spring off (much to the hilarity of my children!). This is because the cap is spring loaded, which is also a feature, but is also why I'm likely ot lose the pen top down the back of a desk. Perhaps a compromise just isn't possible, the boffins at Stabilo know more than I do.

My son, who's ten and in Year 6, has yet to attain his 'pen licence' from school and maybe will be the only adult in history to write in pencil throughout his life - who knows? Anyway, it was good to be able to test this pen, with his (grudging) assistance:Pros:* Without the heavy lid attached to the top, the pen really fits ergonomically into a child's hand* It fits the standard (cheapo) ink cartridges, plus a spare can be placed in the barrel* The writing flows well from the nibCons:* It is, rather expensive for an item which could be easily lost by a child* The lid is far too heavy and bulky and cannot be attached to the top of the pen - hence it'll probably go missing at some point ...Iquite like it myself though ...

My first thought when I saw this pen - was "too chunky for me" - however it is nice to use.I always used to use fountain pens in the past and it was good to use one again. It does not seem to leak or smudge. This pen is aimed at the younger market and I am sure it would appeal. The lid does fit on the end of the pen when you are writing but I thought it better without. The packet comes with just one ink cartridge - so you have to buy some refills straight away!I like the way you can see the ink level through the transparent body of the pen.Fixing the ink cartridge seemed easy and did not cause any ink to spill or leak.

Stabilo is a very reliable brand and this futuristic looking fountain pen is assured to be yet another winner. I still have memories of dip and blot pens from my early school days of writing with what comes next after the pencilMy own ancient "Parker" travelled with me through my student days accompanied by a bottle of ink, I graduated on to a little bag of refill ink capsules with a more generic fountain pen.Leap forward into a new century when handwriting is being evolved away, it is a joy to know that technology still has time to produce such an elegant and trustworthy writing tool

I got this pen for me. I do like a fountain pen, but had given them up for lost because arthritis has begun to affect my writing. Then I saw this. My favourite thing about it is that its easy to grip, and that means my writing flows little more easily. It's a nice combination of colours, lime and black, which is quite peppy and stylish. It comes in a blister pack with one cartridge, so I haven't used it much. However, I like what I've done so far. It's sturdy, too, which is something I value. I will get more cartridges soon. And its non spill. Excellent value for money!

My daughter writes far more skilfully than I ever have, so as soon as I was confident that she wouldn't make a hideous mess, I let her loose with this easy to use and fun pen. She got on well with it but I could see that as she grew the weighting wasn't wonderful and now she uses a more balanced Parker pen designed for adult hands. This pen is a good intro for a child that hasn't used a fountain pen but - in my view - half the beauty of a fountain pen is that weight in the hand and sense of quality that this doesn't really offer.

I like reviewing these basic pens, this medium fountain pen is great for those learning to use them.I am actually a big fan of these due to the large grips, I find them quite comfortable for writing large amounts and this is no exception.it comes with some ink too, which is a nice bonus.Sure this is aimed at kids but to be honest, this is great for anyone who wants a good quality easy to use a fountain pen - just don't expect it to look like a Mont Blanc.

I really like writing with a fountain pen and have some expensive ones like Waterman. However, I wouldn't want to risk losing these so I bought this Stabilo for everyday use. The feel and writing quality are really good and I also like the chunky modern design which makes it easy to write with. An added bonus is that the higher ink capacity Waterman ink cartridges fit.

I'm not normally a fan of cheap fountain pens. In fact I prefer a well known brand if pen beginning with P. I needed something though that was cheap enough to carry around and for me not to be upset when it inevitably gets lost. I was pleasantly surprised by this pen. It's nice. Writes beautifully and cost only a bit more than a decent biro. I like it :)

Although designed for kids, these Stabilo fountain pens are great for adults wanting something that is fun and modern, and no need to worry about losing a more expensive pen. This feel good in the hand and writes smoothly. At this price I would have expected a couple of cartridge refills as they're so small...
