As a Primary School Teacher who taught hand writing for 40 odd years, I can honestly say that the STABILO EASY original Handwriting Pen is excellent. If you or your child is right handed then this is the pen that will make their handwriting better by making it easier to produce a neat legible script.#That is all you really need to know but if you would like to know the reasons for my favourable views and a few suggestions read on.If you child is left handed then I would get the Left Handed Version. As soon as I held this pen and tried it I knew it was a brilliant, well-constructed design.Even my, neat script was better BUT, more importantly,it was far easier to achieve than a normal pen.Let me explain. The normal run of the mill pens in schools ten to be the Berol cylindrical ones. They have stood the test of time, are the right price for budget conscious Heads Teacher, reliable and washable. (unlike the Heads)But I never liked them for developing a good script. The grip wasn't quite right and the learner had to spend far too much time concentrating on getting the pen gripped correctly- which is hard for a child learning with a standard- one size fits all pen, and having to constantly readjust to do so rather than concentrate of the script they were writing.I noted the children soon got fatigued at having to hold the pen correctly and as time went for by their writing deteriorated negating the benefits of the pen.I had constant arguments with imperious Deputy Head Teachers and others who I realised had no idea what they were talking about to spend a few pence extra per pen and buy the better Stablo ones with the better grip. This is an excellent pen that is contoured and shaped so that the learner grips the pen in the perfect position. The grip is comfortable meaning the hand of the child does not tire and the result is all the concentration is on the script written. The result an easy style that makes it easier to produce a neat and legible script. Now a few tips.Make sure your child is sat in the correct position with the paper straight.(A quick viewing of the accompanying video explains and illustrates this well.If the paper is not straight in the first place then you are making it harder to write correctly.A simple yet all too often ignored fact. (Think back to the bad old days of school when you had limited desk space and had to turn your body and paper around just to get the writing down). Now some children are very self-conscious about 'having to use a pen that is for 'less able kids'.If you promote this pen as only being given to selected special children then you will go a long way to creating a self-fulfiling prophecy type of attitude rather than a negative one.Tell them the pen is stylish and trendy and all the other words and reassurance they need.If you buy this pen then have a quiet word with their teacher to enable them to use the pen in class is always a good idea.If you are unlucky to get a snooty non-responsive class teacher go over her head.Teachers hate this and soon kowtow. Most reasonable and sensible teachers (underpaid and overworked) will thank you for this thought. If you do get the odd one ask her to try the pen herself and then an ordinary one and compare the writing.Mine was far better with this pen so that should convince them. Thanks for reading.I hope your child develops a neat and legible hand writing style.

I have to confess that I've never previously given much thought to using stationery which has been specifically designed for either right or left handed people and indeed haven't really noticed many products which are designed as such, with the exception perhaps being scissors. However, when I first picked up this pen, I could immediately see the attraction as the grip was perfectly designed to suit the hand of a right handed person. This makes it quite a bit more comfortable to hold and to write with for prolonged periods of time. Unless you're trying to hold a right handed pen in your left hand, in which case it isn't comfortable at all...Given that it is a rollerball pen,I find that much less pressure needs to be applied and whilst this in itself increases the comfort of the pen, it also means it writes much more smoothly. The only thing I would say is that the pen nib is quite wide and therefore, it can have the effect of making messy handwriting (such as mine!) more illegible. However, given that this product is fully refillable (by way of replaceable ink cartridges), it is possible that Stabilo might make smaller nib sizes, to suit those of us with messy handwriting (as far as I'm aware, these aren't currently available). The ability to refill these pens also makes it much more cost efficient as, at the time of writing, you can buy a pack of six refill cartridges for just under the price of a new pen (and even the pen itself isn't that expensive). It also means you can change the colour, from blue, to black, to red.The attention to detail which Stabilo have given to these pens is also fantastic and whilst I appreciate that it is very minor, the writing on the right hand version of the pen goes in the opposite direction to the left handed version. This means that when you are holding each pen in the appropriate hand, the writing is always the correct way up and is able to be read from left to right. I told you it was a small detail...In summary, I am actually rather impressed by these pens, even though I'd previously been contented to use a normal pen which is designed for everyone to use. However, now that I've tried these pens out, I think I could actually use them all the time, with the only slight drawback for me being that the wide (0.5mm) nib makes my previously terrible handwriting look even worse! For anyone with neater handwriting however, this won't be a problem.

While this is primarily aimed at young children learning to write or improving their handwriting, as a 37 year old whose job entails a lot of hand writing notes Im a HUGE fan of this pen:The chunky design means its very comfortable to hold for long periods of writing - I sometimes get hand-cramp with biros - and the depressions where your fingers make contact mean you get a lot less stress and discomfort on both your fingers and the bones in your hand. Its difficult to quite articulate how much of a difference it makes, but if like me youre a heavy note-taker, the difference is tangible.I have a small callusabove the top knuckle on the side of my middle finger from years of writing, which can get a little uncomfortable and painful when I write large amounts at a time; with the slightly spongey section, the pressure is redistributed instead of focussed on one small area, so feels SO much more comfortable.Overall, the pen is lovely to hold and is a nice writer (the ink isnt sticky or clumpy like some biro ink can be, and the nib is smooth to write with) - and as mentioned, though being aimed at children isnt childlike in colour or design. That said, the fact it comes in a number of colour options is a nice touch. The reasons though that Ive not given it 5 stars are that he cost is quite high, considering its basically just a slightly fancy pen. Also the finish on the silver plastic is very cheap - and you dont get any cartridges with it other than the one in the pen - Neither would bother me if the pen was cheaper in the first place! The lid should click on the end of the pen really. Its again not a disaster, but it makes it very easy to lose it; and finally theres a lot of completely unnecessary packaging - the card sleeve is not needed, and the plastic shell even less so. In a time of awareness that waste is an issue, its somewhat niggling to throw a large amount of material away before you even use the product. In all, though, a great pen that makes writing a lot more comfortable.

This is a refillable rollerball pen with a snazzy ergonomic design, the rubber barrelled grip is sculpted to fit – in this case – a right-handed user; a left-handed version is available, identified by a yellow sticker on the packaging (the right-handed version is red with the letter R) which is fairly clear. There is a moulded R on the barrel as well.I assume that the main reason for a pen like this is for those with physical difficulties in holding a regular pen; it sits nicely enough in the hand and has a twist-and-turn cap covering the roller tip.It is being marketed as a handwriting pen, but I found the easy flowing ink had a tendency to spread rather too much on some papers; that levelof bleed tends to compromise the clarity of my natural handwriting forcing me to write in a larger script; fortunately most papers I tested it on have a hard enough surface to deal with this. This seems to be a common problem with some rollerball pens, the trade-off for the more liquid type of ink that gives them the characteristic free-flow – it isn`t just specific to Stabilo.I have no idea how long the cartridge will last, but it is a simple procedure to replace it.I generally wouldn't pay this much for a rollerball pen; this one is refillable and – if you need it to be so – is designed to provide a firm and stable grip. I'm not really convinced, but it seems a reasonably priced item. The lifespan of the cartridges will be the deciding factor – I will modify my rating if this disappoints.

When I was at school my handwriting was so bad that my teachers stopped me from using a fountain pen and told me to stick to ball point. Perhaps if I had gotten hold of a 'Stabilo Handwriting Pen' I may have developed something that could actually be read. The pen works by being ergonomically deigned to fit the hand better and allow you to be more precise with your writing. The little bump in the side alone helps you to be more careful with you precision. The pen is designed to help younger children in school, but should really work from 5-10 years old with no problems. After that it may get a little small for some hands. The pen comes in both left and right handed styles so that no child will feel left out. There are also a number of different colours if that proves a problem so you should be able to find one that matches. With the pen being refillable with new cartridges it should last at least a school year, the only problem is that the top may not as it does not stick to the bottom of the pen.

This is a great pen for children who are learning to write. The pen is ergonomically shaped with and comes in LEFT or RIGHT handed versions. It has soft moulded depressions for your thumb and forefinger which aides in learning the correct way to grip a pen/pencil for writing. The pen itself has a rollerball nib and writes in blue ink. The Ink cartridges are replaceable which means you can carry on using the pen for as long as you like. Another nice feature is that it comes with three sticky labels (easy to miss in the packaging) where you can write down your childs name and stick this to an oval depression on the underside of the pen. Handy when your child is taking it to school. The ink is meant to be erasable (with an ink eraser) but this didn't come with the pen. I checked and a normal eraser doesn't work. Our toddler is a bit too young to try the pen out but keeping it ready for when she starts school.

Our daughter has just recently got her pen licence at school, and as this was the recommend pen by her school we though we'd give it a go. Initial impressions are great - because it's contoured it forces her to hold the pen in the correct way, automatically correcting her grip and curbing her tendencies to hold a pen in a slightly odd way (she tended to hold the pen too far up the barrel so she wan't getting proper control of it). My daughter wasn't keen for this exact reason - it felt odd to her because it forces her to hold it in what seem to her to be a slightly odd (but is actually correct) way. There was plenty of initial resistance from our daughter ("it feels weird! I can't hold it properly!etc") and it took a couple of days for her to adjust to it, but now she has it had certainly improved the way she holds a pen, and so for that reason it's thoroughly recommended.

Although I am not a teacher, I am a reading mentor and like to encourage children to learn to write alongside learning to read (often this can be harder to grasp and also writing letters/words can help make them easier to remember). With this pack you get one easy grip pen for right handed children. The pen is ergonomically designed and has soft, comfortable, grooves in the sides, to allow the child’s fingers to grip easily. Using pencils, or pens, in this range, allows the child’s hand to naturally grip in the correct way – rather than getting into bad habits, such as holding their hand in a fist shape. The rollerball means the writing is smooth and easy.Well designed and they will help encourage your child to develop a comfortable and correct writing style. These do come in different colours and I purchased pink versions for my daughter, when she was younger.

These pens are ideal not only for those children just learning to write, but for older children in the upper primary years who still need some training with holding pens the right way.The pen looks smart and only slightly fatter than a normal one. The two different blues work well together and it has a nifty little lid to protect the nib. The plastic grip near the bottom of the pen is comfortable and has a good indented section that is easy for a child's finger to find. Over time, this should allow their muscle memory to get used to holding a normal pen or pencil in the same way.My 10 year old loves this pen and it's helping her to write better already, despite her insistence to hold normal pens the wrong way.It writes well and the nib isn't scratchy. Overall, pretty impressed.

I've been looking at pens to help my son with his hand writing so this came a long at the right time. The pen is well made and every bit the quality I have come to expect from stabilo. It is pricey for a pen but then you have to factor in its special purpose but it is refillable. My son has cp so adapted pens are a bit of a necessity for us.The roller pen was nice in use once it was going and did help with hand writing. This is the kind of pen you would use to address a specific need so I can't see it becoming 'the cool' pen to have or anything. It's design should hopefully help muscle fatigue whilst the body adapts. I remember the soreness from when I was young trying to keep up,so helpful.Recommend this pen to address a specific need or break learning in gentler

I thoroughly approve of these easy grip, easy to control, first handwriting pens. We have several young grandchildren now learning to write and draw, so I have seen these pens and pencils being used first hand. The children are encouraged by something designed especially for them, rather than awkwardly using unwieldy kit meant for grown ups. This smart silver and neon green tactile pen folds comfortably into their hands and helps them to guide the line they are making. The roller ball version, 0.5mm nib, makes a good clear line every time. Refills are available. There is a screw on cover for the tip when not in use. Stabilo must have done their research well to produce such a helpful item.

This was bought for my 82 year old mum. She has recovered from a stroke last year but still sometimes fumbles with her fine motor skills. She has reported that the fatter design of the main body of the pen with strategically placed grooves for the middle finger and thumb makes gripping easier and gives more fluid control of writing. The outer colour of pen has no bearing on the ink. They come with a refill which can be changed by unscrewing narrow end of pen. Refills are available in black and blue so the ink colour can be changed according to your needs. The refills are sold in multi packs which cost less than pen, making it good value in the long run.

This is an interesting writing instrument – it has been shaped to make it more comfortable to hold.Unfortunately the finger placing are in the wrong place for me – they were obviously designed and moulded by someone with bigger hands. However it doesn’t mean that it is uncomfortable to write with as I found out when I was doing my research and needed a working pen.It is a smooth writer with very little blotching and even though my fingers didn’t go where they were supposed to it was nice to write with. This is definitely a pen that I will be carrying in my bag when I go out to the Uni library again to do some more research.

The way I hold my pen is apparently more like an unusual tight grip. This was a big issue when I was young in the pre digital age. Teachers made desperate attempts to set me straight. To no avail. In an effort to prevent my children from ending up with a similar ‘handicap’ I ordered two of these not so cheap Stabilo EasyOriginal pens. The children use them a lot but not exclusively, which is fine I guess. So the pens to their job. However I must say that when I try to write with them the slightly triangular shape hurts my fingers. Moreover I really like fine tipped ball pens, and these are of the fine-lining type.

I bought 2 of these for our 5yr old, she hates writing and refuses to use a pencil, She prefers pens and felt tips, won't use crayons or coloured pencils. When this arrived she wrote a few lines of a story, and used the pen for drawing, I labelled the second pen and sent it in her book bag to school - sadly school have a no pens policy, they have to use pencils until year three when they earn a pen when their writing is neat enough. Hey ho! The pen is great, daughter loves it, uses it all the time at home and for homework! It clearly is easy to hold and grip and she gets on very well with it.
