Having bought a PS2 solely to play SSX, I was secretly looking forward to a faster, better version of SSX 3 coming out. However, I couldn't have been more wrong.SSX On Tour is in some ways, quite unexpected. It is very different to the rest of the series, but at the same time, very similar.I wasn't keen at first because you don't go through a season of pure racing and freestyling. It's more about developing your skills in mini challenges which wasn't what I was expecting. However, it's now a firm favourite because these challenges actually force you to become a better boarder/skier. With the older games, you can scrape your way through to completing the whole thing without really being that good a player. With On Tour, you won't get anywhere after a while if you are not up to scratch. The SSX range has undergone a complete revolution. The whole format that every other game has been based on is completely absent from this game. The features are good fun as well, for example the barbers shop and clothes shop in the 'village'. A much, much more detailed game than the others, with superior graphics that make playing that much more realistic.I heartily recommend this game, though I do think it takes a while to get into it in the same way. If you have an earlier version, I'd suggest having an open mind when buying this game. If you've never played SSX before, then you're looking at the best snowboarding console game range ever made. For a first time buyer, I would possibly suggest that SSX 3 is a slightly better choice....but only because it's easier.I find the game a surprising but welcome direction for the creators to have taken. It would have been so easy to create SSX 4 in exactly the same format as the others, but by taking a risk they have created something of a legend.

This is gonna be more of an SSX reviewI've just got this game for christmas, and I've been very impressed with it so far. However, in terms of surpassing SSX3, it failed. They both have their good and bad points and are very different games, but it didn't quite take over as my favourite gameSSX3 is an overall brilliant game. I was stuck to it ever since I got it.The graphics are brilliant and smooth - no glitches there. The slopes are brilliant, and the fact that you are led gradually into it and can access the map when you want is great. The clothing options are great, and I also like the tricks and uber tricks that you can do.The only thing I would have against this game is the premade characters - it gets a bit dull not being able to customise them.SSX on Tour is also brilliant.I have always been a skier when it comes to snow, so I was thrilled to know that there was skiing on this game aswell. The make-own-character theme is also great. The slopes are as brilliant as ever, with all the tricks, turns and jumps that you would expect of an SSX mountain. The few bad points of this game are mainly to to with the events. When you start hte game you are immediately thrown into an event against Elise, which is a bit startling if you are new to ssx games. There is also no track of the events you have and haven't done, so the same events may turn up more than once.other that that, an excellent game - don't let my review put you off - go BUY IT!

The latest in the series brings more ludicrous fun to the table, whilst again managing to convey a genuine sense of adrenalin. Although it's arcade action rather than sim, the feel of movement does convey real snowboarding to some degree, and the timing element of tricks and jumps has some basis to it as well.Graphics are again excellent, and the multitude of challenges in tour mode keeps things interesting. Presentation is another highlight; there's daft student sketches and animations all over the place, with those silly hand signals, and even Run To The Hills by Iron Maiden! In short, the game oozes quality and is a real laugh playing alone or with friends. One other key point; now, when you pull off a 'monster' trick (previously an 'uber' trick), time slows down to a sort of slow motion effect, yet the boarder's animation continues in realtime. The effect is highly amusing, as you seem to sail through 'big air' for absolutely ages - a touch of gaming programming genius!

The SSX games are my only real foray into PS2 and I love 'em. This game is great value for money - there's loads of events. I'm still not sure whether it's better than SSX3 or not, though. I like the fact that you create your own character and dress him/her, do hair/make up, board or ski. The graphics are great; you have to work up the charts and build up hype by winning events, beating records and catching the camera icons scattered around the courses. There's no DJ talking, which I kind of miss. The soundtrack's really different - I like some heavy metal, but I loved the SSX3 music, and I don't think this is as good. There's a lot more info displayed on screen; how many metres ahead or behind etc you are.The uber tricks are now Monster tricks and are done differently. It's a brilliant game - I think they've tried to outdo SSX3 but I'm not convinced it's better. Love it, though!

Although SSX is not the most accurate verison of snowboarding simulations, it is the funnest to play. I'm often deeply emerged, often for hours, in fast, action-packed races or adventurous freestyle races that are fun to play. On the other hand users may suggest that the game too fustrating as users are often reqired to take part in 'shred' challenges. I disagree with this as it is these mini-games that open up the vast world of the SSX 0n Tour mountain to the user so that they may take the world of SSX snowboarding to the extreme no matter where they are.Truly an inspirational game 'SSX On Tour' is great for thoose seeking quick surges of fun or adrenaline.

Alot of people put this game down due to the whole new style of it, but I think they have done an awesome job at creating such a great game.Creating your own character and completing various "shred" challenges to work your way up the ranks is great, and there are alot of new various missions to complete that make this game so much fun. Much more now then just getting highest tricks or coming 1st in races, and add on top of that the "boasts" that you have to find and collect make this a game you will be playing for hours!

I have played most of the SSX games(except SSX tricky) and when i bought SSX 3 i was suprised how good it was.It was brilliant.I bought this a couple of days ago and its great. The Tour Mode is brilliant and also the addition of Ski's is a nice feature. But SSX on Tour is not as good as SSX 3.Its not HUGELY worse just slightly. If you have SSX 3 then get this.If not then get SSX 3 first and seeing as there both so cheap get SSX on tour afterwards.

9.8.2006

As my title suggests I don't think SSX on Tour shaped up to it's predecessor in any way. However, there are some good qualities about it which weren't on the older games. For example, being able to choose your own character and customise them yourself, instead of playing as one of the given pros.Another being the fact you can now ski or snowboard down the mountain.Overall I thought it was OK,but I'd recommend you buy SSX 3 instead.

I've played the original ssx game on and off for the last 3 years and love it. This 2005 follow on is my opinion BETTER than the 2003 original. You get a real rush blasting down the slopes and off massive ramps as the new boost is just the business. The new slopes are really well thought out and you just get addicted.BUY THIS GAME AND LIVE THE DREAM - YEH BABY
