I bought several of these chains for Cycle Fiesta, a cycling holiday company. We need chains that last a long time with little stretching, and this Sram is excellent for this. We use the chains mostly on the road, but also on some off-road sections which are quite sandy and dusty, but the chains are well up to the task. We have one tour to the Pyrenees, where some pretty heavy guys were really mashing the gears going up Tourmalet, but the chains were 100% fine afterwards. The chain is very easy to put on using the powerlink method (just make sure that you loop it through correctly, because it can be a bit tricky to undo). We have not had any problems with stiff links so far.The only problem we found on a couple of bikes was a slight grinding sound for the first 50km after the chain was put on; but that was probably due to some slight warping of the chainrings rather than the chain itself.Highly recommended, especially for the price they are going for on Amazon - I will be stocking up on several more.

I rode my bike with the chain it came with when I bought it new last summer. I put a solid 1000 miles on it throughout the summer and fall. I bought this chain in November of 2010. Once I finally put this SRAM chain on, I instantly felt the difference when I tested it around the neighborhood. The pedaling felt butter smooth. I felt like a moron when I had the biggest and dumbest grin on my face when I rode down the block with this chain on.What I loved most about this chain, besides the fact it's so incredibly smooth on the road, is that the installation was easy as pie with the Power Link. This is the open link that snaps into place when you want to close the loop at the end of installation.I know it'll be just as easy to remove when I replace it with a new chain, this same model, early next month (June 2011).This chain was an excellent investment for my bike. I highly recommend it.

Arrived VERY fast. I haven't put it on my bike yet as I am awaiting another part that is not arriving so fast, but its a 8 speed chain and I have an 8 speed Gary Fisher.. I can imagine if I were looking to lighten my bike and create some bragging rights I could have found a lighter chain, but I ride hard and long and I don't like to be married to maintenance so my criteria are different than many. I have had a few friends use this chain and have never heard anything bad and you can't beat the price!Note* The image and the chain do not match.. For those buying based on those little details you will notice the difference.. This chain has the bevels in the outer rings between the pins to allow for space for the teeth.I know this is minor, but I also know many are very detailed so I had to give it a 4 star instead of 5 because proper presentation in online showing is SO important...

Immediately noticed it much heavier and sturdier than the chain I had which didn't even last a year before becoming really stretched.Gear changes no problem now and I like also the shiny silver nickel (it's better looking than the photo above) finish as my old bike has a lot of chrome so it looks very good with that. Was already the perfect length for my bike gears and clipped on very simply. Also nicely pregreased so I just rode off straight away.I know what my next chain is going to be, provided of course that this one doesn't stretch badly but I suspect it won't. It even seems better than the chain on my new Boardman Hybrid. An easy excellent.

I needed to replace a similar chain on my hybrid bike and thought I would try to do it myself for the first time. This chain comes complete with a 'power link' which makes it all very easy, as no special tools are needed. In fact you can undo and do it up by hand. Just try and attach both sides of the 'power link' at once otherwise you might have to undo the side you've attached already.I was lucky in that my old chain and this one had the same number of links so nothing needed to be removed. I could even see the chain stretch (just over 0.5 cm) of my old chain. So saved myself a few bob and it only took a few minutes. Great.

I only wish the product was advertised as having the quick link since I went and bought one separately. I see the other reviews mention this but the company shouldn't be relying on reviewers to tell new buyers what the product includes! Safe to say I didn't read the reviews before buying since I feel it was a pretty low risk purchase. It was my first chain purchase so lesson learnt!Otherwise it is a great chain and feels solid. There is a the cheaper PC850 model but given £6 between them and if this PC870 is even slightly hardier then its worth paying extra.

I ride 7000 miles a year. I currently have a 2005 Schwinn High Timber with 15,000 miles on it, and a 1982 Ross Gran Tour II with 5000. I use these chains exclusively. I get between 5000-7000 miles out of them with daily, hilly, road rides. Lots of pressure on the steep inclines. NEVER has one failed on me. The secret is to replace your freewheel with every chain replacement, and your crankset every second chain. Putting a new chain on a worn out drive train is never a good idea. Poor shifting, skipping gears, etc. Don`t blame the chain if it`s done improperly!

Bought this as a replacement for my 8 year old Carrera. I love the frame so I decided not to buy a new bike. This chain works perfectly. It comes with a masterlink which is super easy to remove and lock. Gears shift smoothly, no weird noises. Happy with my purchase for sure.Tip:If you're like me and replaced your chain on an old drivetrain, you will probably encounter chain slipping due to the worn teeth of your cassette sprockets and front chainrings. I suggest you inspect these parts and buy new ones accordingly.

I installed this chain after breaking the one that came with my (rather old) bike. I immediately noticed quieter and smoother shifts with the new chain, though it could be just an indication of how cheap the OEM chain was. I wish I had replaced it sooner. Installation was a simple matter thanks to the power link, although I did need to shorten the chain by one link to size it to my bike. A basic chain tool was sufficient to remove the unneeded link.

Used this chain with a Shimano Tourney 6 Speed freewheel (MFTZ06). I took it off a few times for cleaning (the quick-release link is very nice to have) and it seemed to wear very slowly. I didn't get to its end of life due to a necessary upgrade, but as I said in my review of the freewheel, I think it would go a very long way in that combination. Seems to shift much better with Shimano freewheels and cassettes than Shimano chains!

This chain is great value and hard-wearing. It's the second time I have bought this chain. I've clocked up about 800 miles over the winter and thought the chain was due a change, so ordered a new one. On checking, I found the original chain was still only about 50% stretched, so didn't fit this new chain! The chain is easy to fit: feed it around the gears, join the two ends together and push/pull the link together. Easy.

It's bright as heck and it seems good of the price. actually I was expecting lower quality. tail lights get the most beat up for me so I buy cheap. The only downside to this particular light is that the angle doesn't stay straight after hitting bumps and whatnot. I didn't expect it to be able to pivot but it does, for better or worse.it is able to strobe red light and blue light and both together.

This is my third SRAM PC870 chain in my 2006 Raleigh Passage 5.0. I completely clean and lubricate my chain every 500 miles of ride and since the price of it is so reasonable, I replace it every 2000 miles to ensure longevity and integrity of my drive train. This chain has been great, I never experienced a single problem with it, and with the power link is very easy to open for servicing.

Bought this as a replacement for my old chain. Fitted perfect very high quality, looks very strong. The best part about this for me was the quick release or (security pins) that come at each end.now every time I want to remove the chain I just find the quick release link and with a bit of pressure it clicks out and there is no need to mess around removing and re placing pins.

Performs as described. Mounted it on no problems was replacing older one year chain. However then i fond that I have to replace back cogs as well ... as I had jumps over on the old cogs used most. Cycle experts normally do advise to let chain wear together with cogs and then after several years when the chain starts to jump over, change for new both the chain and cogs.
