I bought these for specific purpose - winter / hiking cold or wet, but with the finish more like a dress shoe. In Sydney I don't regularly need a specific waterproof boot (and definitely no snow here), so I wanted something that could be taken outdoors, stand up to bad weather, but also match my outfit without being noticeably a hiker. In other words, block out the rain but also work as an urban outfit with jeans and a shirt. Many (approaching most) hiking boots are very clearly hiking boots - colourful mottled patterns, aggressive shaping, deep cuts and notches in the soles, highly visible branding. I wanted something plain leather finish with a less aggressive shape,to both wear outdoors but also manage with jeans and a shirt if I wanted to wear these about the city. E.g. going to the footy in inclement weather, I can wear these boots, not fear for the rain or mud, but also not look like I'm about to climb a mountain in Tasmania. The toe box is quite wide, which I like, but be aware of you have narrow feet. I found the width to be both comfy, allow wiggle room and also accommodate thicker socks. I do tend to wear these with thicker socks. Note also that the wider toe box gives a more rounded toe profile when wearing, i.e. not like the more pointy dress shoes that are the current fashion. They do not feel "snug" like my Merrells do, but not a specific issue, just a note. The leather finish has so far proven waterproof (I haven't tested it out in extreme conditions) and highly resistant to scratches and marking. Toe and heel have nice big rubberised protection, which also fits in with the style of the booth and does not look silly. They almost have a military-type styling.I wasn't a huge fan of the standard laces, which were thinner and brown, so I subbed them for thicker blue laces. This is still in keeping with the more urban look of the boot whilst working with the hook loops in the boot. Tip for me is I don't lace the boot beyond the first hook on the vertical, otherwise they get a bit grippy on the front of my shin and cause my heel to slip a little. Doing the knot at the junction of the horizontal and vertical lace loops does the trick.Overall I did a lot of research to try and find waterproofs that fit the above brief and there were not so many options. I haven't bought Sorel shoes before. I have not hiked in these so cannot comment, though current wear predicts they'd do well enough. I probably like these boots more than I expected too, which is good.

I like these boots a lot. They must be popular because I had a hard time tracking them down. They are out of stock at a lot of places (I would have ordered black, but I couldn't find any!). Comfortable. Fairly light. Waterproof. I'm not a big fan of Goretex (I don't believe that claim that it "breathes") in footwear and I like the fact that there isn't any in these boots.Update, 2/2/17:I've owned these boots for two years now and have a few things to add. First, I am not very hard on my shoes/boots. I wear these boots 3-4 days a week during winter. I don't hike or otherwise subject these boot to tough usage. One boot is just starting to show the toe bumper separation that others have complained about. This separation is only about 2 mm deep and 10 mm long and I'm not concerned because it's very minor and some CA glue or GOOP will repair it easily. I also experienced the shoe laces popping off the top hooks that has been mentioned here. I simply used a pair of pliers and gently pinched the hooks so they got a tighter bite on the shoe laces--problem solved. I have skinny calves and ankles, so I put a layer of "Moleskin" on the tongue. It gave a better fit and probably helped the shoe lace issue, too. These are comfortable and stylish boots and work well for light use in wet weather. When I travel, I wear these boots if I expect cool, wet weather. They were perfect on a recent trip to France--it was their coolest wettest spring. I would still recommend them for a person with the right expectations and knows what they are getting.

Promptly wore these on a two-day mountain hike after purchasing them. It alternated between rain, sleet, and snow for part of my hike and the temperature ranged from under freezing to nearly 60 F. While much of my other gear was found wanting, these boots were a joy throughout. They kept my feet comfortable, protected, warm, and dry with ease. Since that trip, I've frequently worn them on rainy days during my commute and will absolutely continue to do so on snowy days. They exceeded my expectations in every regard. The fit isexcellent. They are roomy enough inside that I can easily wear bulky winter socks but they can be cinched up with lighter socks for warmer, rainy days. While they are sizable boots,I find them to be very light and manageable. If I had to mention a complaint, it would be that they don't provide the best traction on especially flat and slippery surfaces.

I ordered these boots as I needed a pair for casual wear. I'm pleased I read reviews as they are large, I bought a size smaller than my usual size and they fit perfectly. I also got them at a good price, as we all know that amazon prices fluctuate. I don't think they are worth more than £80 so try not to pay much more than this. All in they have been comfy but could do with another insole. Also make sure you treat the leather with dubbin straight away to soften the leather, otherwise the leather will crease near the toe. I think they look great on and are designed well. Time will tell.

I bought this for my husband as a birthday present. He LOVES it! Definitely well made. He was looking for a good versatile boot that was waterproof. It's both stylish for work or adventuring out and about. He gets compliments too. Love the color, material, and overall the purchase. He's a true size 9.5 and he said there's a little room in the boot after getting the 9.5, but he'll be able to wear thicker socks (hiking socks), so it'll be fine and comfortable.

I bought these as a more casual winter boot and they fit the bill perfectly - fine for around town or for a county walk but not really up to "proper" hiking on rough trails. I was impressed with how comfortable they are right out the box - no need to break them in. There seems to be a lot of disagreement about the sizing; personally I found them slightly large, even allowing for thicker / layered socks, and actually went down a half size from normal.

I would put this in the fashion category more than the serious hiking category of boots - there isn't a lot of cushioning in the heel. They were only chosen for daily use rather than walking and I think they look nice, with the fitted look around the foot and ankle, so I'm pretty pleased with them. They have been worn a fair bit straight out of the box now and nothing appears to want to unravel or unstick, so fine on the wear and tear, so far.

These just arrived today. I bought them for rain and light snow. I put them on to check them out and after seeing how they fit, took them outside. They are very sturdy and seem well made. Really comfortable for me. I have a relatively wide foot, so I ordered a 12 instead of an 11.5. They seem very warm in 65 degree weather, but should be great when the temperature drops. Finally, they are a bit less rustic than I imagined from the website.

Great boots, I usually wear a size 11.5-12 but for these the 10.5 fit perfect. Just a heads up. Do a lot of hiking through mud and water as well as steep incline. rain, snow, desert these boots are great. Would give it 5 stars but inside the boot underneath the removable sole the material does not do well with moisture after getting soaked. I can see that it was deteriorating after getting soaked and hiking wet after...

A bit too clunky for everyday wear around town - but I'm very satisfied with these boots. Very comfortable, right out of the box. Good leather, good grip, nicely waterproofed. Good for hiking, snow, mud, general mucking about. I'd recommend these to anyone looking for some useful (rather than fashion) boots.

3.3.2016

A bit larger than expected and a wider fit but at least i can buy thicker socks, the boot in my opinion is a walking boot (paths and trails) but not protected enough around the heel for rocky trails, a good fashionable boot that comes in funky colours, but a size smaller for the perfect fit

Amazing boots, cant speak highly enough of it I put it through the ringer in the cabinet mountains of montana logging and hunting and hiking. I guess if I had to say a negative is I wouldn't wear unless it's cold outside. Feet get too sweaty.

Husband got these to/from the office during the winter. They go well with Khakis, jeans and cords and don't look like obvious and bulky snow boots. They're waterproof and warm but not too warm. Perfect for what he was looking for.

These are a great looking boot with exceptional fit and finish. The laces tend to come untied frequently and the boot ends up loosening which, in turn, cause rubbing on the heel but ordering a little smaller would probably help.

So far so good. I have only used them for about a week now. it should be noted that they are not water proof all the way up, the top two inches or so will let water in.
